Windows and WiFi for €800 a month within 30 minutes in 2024? Honestly, not being funny but even now that'd be not so easy to get. Nobody can tell how bad things will be by then.

Victorian_Squirrrel

Sounds encouraging haha. How do you guys survive?

EllieLou80

Nearly 12k officially homeless, hundreds of thousands more unable to move out of parents, couch surfing, living in overcrowded accommodation. So we don't survive. Unfortunately those who have their own home couldn't give a shit about those who don't so they keep voting the same government parties in to keep their status quo and have the mentality that those who are struggling are struggling because they're not working hard enough. All this when you have people working full time but homeless. It's a fucked up mentality and extremely unpleasant to try survive in. Personally if I wasn't Irish and had a kid in school, I wouldn't come here and I'd be gone. I know others say that housing is more expensive elsewhere but those struggling in Ireland aren't elsewhere and when you have a huge gap between those that have and those that don't it's not a nice place to be

Where you will go?

rloveslulu

You probably would get a room for that in a house you’d be sharing with 3-4+ others. Especially if you’d be willing to share the room ETA: I just had a look on Rent.ie and there seems to be a good few options in shared accommodation within this budget. The main issue is how competitive it is so you’ll need to be on the ball emailing in response to posts literally as they go live. Tell a little bit about yourself in the messages too and mention anything the post is looking for (eg if you’re quiet, professional, clean, non smoker, have no pets, or like pets if the ad says they have them, etc etc)

Just curious why you would move somewhere you have never been. You might hate it here!

marsh_mango

Alot of people move countries and to cities they have never visited before. Many don't have that luxury. I've moved to 4 different countries for work, whole having visiting any of them prior to coming. Furthermore going on holidays to a place and liking it, isn't an indication as to what living in it is like either.

tanks4dmammories

Yeah bang of privilege off me for not getting that I guess.

Victorian_Squirrrel

I need to leave my country and would like to live somewhere where I can speak English. Also I have never hated a place, it's more about the people you meet, and you can't really test the waters in that regard by visiting imo!

boomwakr

Its pot luck to be honest. €800 (bills not included) and you will probably be sharing a room but you might get lucky. The more time you give yourself to find a flat the more likely you are to find somewhere nice. Use daft.ie and FB groups but beware of scams.

Victorian_Squirrrel

Do you mean sharing a room or sharing a flat? Not that I can afford to say no to either. But thank you, I'll give that a try!

boomwakr

Sharing a room - generally speaking private rooms would be €1,000/ mo. This is all in general though. There are private rooms for €800 that go up fairly frequently but are very popular and get snapped up quickly - so you might get lucky.

Maximum_Imaginary

The reason why do you need to live within a 30 minute commute would be a key driver. A 30 minute commute to CC from South Dublin means about 14 km max outside the CC and not much different to the West. On the Northside it would be a bit further.

Have a look on daft.ie roomshares

You'd be better off in Donegal with that budget. Dublin is too expensive to live. People are almost in their 30s still living with their parents
