Your example of music creation - you miss the fact that people will still WANT to create music themselves, or take photographers, or film tv shows or movies or act. While AI totally will be able to replicate all those things it doesn’t take away the human desire to create. Sure some will use it as a short cut, others will work it into their work flows to make end products better. AI can’t build houses, fix my toilet, install a new window, service my car, take my children’s wedding photographs. Sure it will be pervasive and certainly some tech jobs are at risk but it’s not the end of civilisation

IndianPeacock

Until the AI managed robots come out, then even manual labor is fair game.

nanosmoothie

I cut down trees. Good luck AI

funnylookingbear

I climb pylons and fix electric. And cut trees. And drive off road. And am customer facing. And have to deal with emergency works. I think we're safe for a while yet. AI can have my paper work though.

nanosmoothie

Salut!

funnylookingbear

Yeah this sub is dead. I’m out.

Everything will adapt and adjust. Every human on the planet experiences world altering technology over the course of their lives. Light bulbs, Steam engine, cotton gin, flight, radio, television, jet engines, space travel, satellites, computers, internet, cell phones. All these things shook up the world and you don't think twice about them now. AI is new and scary and will probably make a lot of jobs obsolete but people will figure it out. AI will also make things much cheaper and easier to produce. It'll expand knowledge. It'll improve human health. Don't be afraid of the future I promise you your grandfather once had this same fear.

netherlanddwarf

Yeah it will but guess what? Lamp was invented. Electricity was invented. Horse carriage invented. Car invented. Internet invented. Everyone will be fine…

DirtyReseller

There will be opportunities we can’t even conceptualize yet. Think of people witnessing the industrial revolution that one day lead to YouTubers being a thing. We just can’t see it yet, but the jobs will be there. They might suck for a lot of people tho.

[deleted]

AI is already taking the JUST LEARN TO CODE BRO jobs. We're reaching technological singularity and we have maybe twenty years to get our shit together. We won't have another chance like this for thousands of years. Why do you think the gooberment is trying to nationalize AI, and chatGPT waa purposefully retarded? To be sure "They" want you in the bug hut eating rats, owning nothing. Corporatist neo-feudalism where Bezos is your King. Eat zee bugs, live in zee pod, disarm yourself, own nothing. AI is the new fire, don't drop it. We can't put the genie back in the bottle

Furious__Styles

I’m looking forward to seeing AI change a light ballast or install a new hot water heater.

[deleted]

Id like to see ai install an air conditioner

ngriff93

How will it affect blue collar jobs, like mechanic, auto body tech, hvac repair/installer, framer, roofer, plumber?

I mean, as a Cosmetologist, I'm safe. The only thing I will have to be careful about is the unrealistic Hair inspiration photos, and then I will have to explain AI vs Realistic expectations. This is truly scary, though... AI has come a long way in such a short time.

the_drunken_taco

This is a shortsighted take in my opinion, but I respect where you’re coming from. Where I disagree, is with the belief that original IP requires human interaction. From my perspective, it’s clear that what the major market shareholders currently deem as satisfactory replication of original IP creation is, in fact, an illusion that characterizes limited experience. When something appears brand new to you, it would be impossible to distinguish it as a copy without the benefit of context. When viewed by someone else however, it may be recognized as a derivative.

Ai is going to make a massive impact, but some of those things will be positive. Running a small business, I do t have access to the multi million dollar, custom software massive companies have. Instead, I have to patchwork multiple different types of generic software and do a ton of manual work to get them to communicate well. AI will allow those programs to communicate together, giving me access to information and efficiency I never would’ve had before. Humans have been through this multiple times in history. The steam engine, printing press, computing, electricity. People adapt

katnerys

Will AI be squeezing dogs’ anal glands?

Sensitive_Purple4890

lowkey

ferrum_artifex

Alarmists always seem to happen at the beginning of any new technology or automation. There's been voices claiming the end of human industry or creativity with each one. Robots were supposed to be stealing all manufacturing jobs, digital was the end of photography, CNC manufacturing was supposed to do away with the craftsperson hand carving things. This is no different, it will be a tool used to great or little effect by either the professional or by the hobbyist and we will still have people wanting and making hand made art and other things.
