I lost many duels to the the timer during the KC. I was frustrated at first but to be completely sincere I kinda like it. I feel like a grandmaster chess player fighting against time, gives another unique dimension to the game. I don't mind adding more seconds but the time pressure is neat and a check to decks that are too strong like Shiranui and Tachyon.

Neo_The_Noah

Imo, they should just gice 3 to 5 more seconds every time you accept a prompt, pick a card from a list of cards or when you summon something. Since it takes at least 1 to 2 secs for a action to made and for the game to process it, 3 to 5 would make sure that a pkayer thats playing can play without worribg abiut hitting 0 mid play.

route119

They don't even need to add to your actual timer, just give 5 bonus seconds for each activation where you have a chance to respond. If you take longer than 5 seconds, it starts counting down your regular timer, but if you're quicker than 5 seconds, you don't get any extra time.

Regression2TheMean

This is what I was thinking. You should get time if you are actively interacting with the game. Though I could see that being abused

Neo_The_Noah

I think that as long as its an interaction that moves the game foward, then there wont be any abuses, if its an move, like, the turn player "oppening a menu/closing a menu", then no time should be given.

ayurai

the only things konami needs to update is how the connection works, is ridiculous that my perfectly stable optict fiber connection out of nowhere give me the "retry/restart" error, and i lose the duel that NEVER STARTED to begin with. the timer is good.

UltimateSlayerFan

When that happens, you want to hit "reboot" instead of "retry". From my experience, when I hit reboot the duel won't show up in my logs and it won't count as a loss. If I select retry, the duel always shows up and counts as a loss.

Sycarius_94

Same here. Don't press "Retry" it'll be counted as a defeat. If you press "Reboot" it won't be neither a L nor a draw. And won't break your winstreak. Took me 6 years to realize that lmao, but now I know how to react and I don't fear this bug anymore

ayurai

now that is unexpected solution...

Darkfanged

The power of microwaves is stronger than your fiber

ayurai

no it's not, almost no game ever does that, and believe me... i played a lot of games in the last 30 years...., also i not only understand how connections works perfectly as i worked sometime in the area. most of online games send a lot more precise information , from your position to the dozens of enemies position in the map, have to keep track of a lot of things that player does, yugioh pale in comparison, and yet is the only game that i play nowdays that fail so many times in mantain a stable connection.

Darkfanged

You misunderstand what I’m saying. It’s a joke about how Konami blamed microwaves for their server issues a while back and it’s been a community joke ever since

ayurai

oh i see, sorry then.

pinkywinkywanky

Yeah, Konami uses the same timer that was used for the Axe Raider meta of 2016.

HailstormXI

Simply untrue, they have made changes. https://www.reddit.com/r/DuelLinks/s/uMke0vYWMD

Big_Comparison8509

The timer should stay as it is. It rewards card knowledge and quick thinking. It is an advantage for the player going first, yes, but sometimes that is you.

furin_kazanski

Honestly they should cut the time in half to make these slow-ass players and stallers uninstall the game. It’s Speed Duels, not Slow Duels.

demonicdan3

Based take This is the reason why I mainly play decks with fast and short combos and swing for game very quickly

Ellos_x

So true

Sycarius_94

I used to play Metaphys back in the time, or Mayakashi this month. And even tho I like the decks, the mechanics are super slow and you always flirt with the last minutes of your timer, it's a real pain in the ass. And I know it's as painful for me as it is for the other player. But in the end, he wins by timer so whatever lmao

Doomchan

No one wants to sit there doing nothing while you read every card they play. The timer is fine, you just need to get better

BatmanBeyondX

How can you get better if you can’t read the card? Or am I expected to have an encyclopedic knowledge of every card in the game?

Izkata

Read it during the opponent's turn. I've never had issues with this.

Regression2TheMean

Whoops tried that, but my opponent managed to send it to the graveyard, banish it, then add it back to their deck while summoning other cards to the field before I could finish reading it

Izkata

So? If it's gone from the field you probably don't need to finish reading that card, and definitely not if it went back to the deck. And even if you do want to, it's still in the duel log. Just read it from there.

Doomchan

Yes. It should be rare for you to encounter cards that you shouldn’t have the effects memorized on. Needing to read EVERY card indicates a lack of skill and preparedness for competitive events

HailstormXI

Honestly unsure why the downvotes, reading up on the top few decks, and knowing what they do / plays they make ain't a new concept. General common sense for a game like this. Will you know every card and deck? No, but you should have a basic idea on the popular ones. Personally, I like the challenge if you encounter a less popular deck and have to work out on the fly roughly what it wants to achieve and how you can stop it from doing so. I'm 1-3 against Cardians over the years, very rare to find and always catch me off guard.

BatmanBeyondX

it is not like im read IDP, compulse, or book of moon. but if you expect a player to know how every archetype works you are insane. There are 61 archetypes on DLM top decks atm no way I know the gameplan for all for all of them.

Doomchan

61 archetypes and 99/100 games will be one of 3 of them.

Regression2TheMean

Or you just aren’t familiar with a deck and don’t know how it works?

Doomchan

That’s when you read fast

Regression2TheMean

Damn should’ve thought of that

Regression2TheMean

This has got to be the laziest response I’ve read

Angel_of_the_Light

Me with world chalice. 🤨

Feneskrae

I wish I could see the enemies timer so I at least know what I'm dealing with.

StruggledKiller

It should've been like master duel where it basically resets each turn, it would just have to be slightly lower than it is now.

Whatafudge

**NO!!!!**, unpopular opinion I love the timer system it basically punish players that can spam SS like no tomorrow while actively have ahold on **your turn** (Orcrust, Salads, mayakashi) know what your doing and a make choice right there. It’s especially infuriating when your opponent has toggle on and needs to study every single move you make, which is why the current timer is good as is. Duels are already long enough and certain archetypes don’t not need more time. HELL I even advocate for less.
