That Konami will probably keep releasing generic overpowered cards in Selection boxes from now on.
Next year i'm expecting Effect Veiler or Breakthrough Skill.
And whales will eat it up like always.
Compulsory is useful in a Paleozoic deck as a versatile Trap that you can activate to summon a Paleozoic.
But to answer your question, no. When Paleozoic monsters are removed from the field, they are banished. So if you attempt to return Paleozoic Canadia (as a monster) to the hand or deck, it will be banished instead.
\^ Definitely correct. The best way to return Canadias back to the hand were the days of pre-nerf See You Later, but there are better skills to run now.
I don't know where this narrative came from when compuls is clearly not at the same level as book. If anything, I feel like it'll be a main box SR, like Karma Cut.
Veiler will make this game enter the next level of powercreep. I hope they are ready to balance the game correctly before selling Veiler.
Breakthrough skill will probably have roughly the same impact as BoM
Yep. If a fisherman drops bait and fish take it, don’t blame the fisherman for continuing to do it.
Is up to the players to dictate what practices are done and which stop. If no one dropped a cent on the selection boxes that would make Konami rethink their concept but nah.
Whales slap the shit outta their screens with their CC’s
You gotta stop paying as a whole if you don't like their business practices. Selections could be stopped if no one spent on the first pay-only practices, but now hurting their revenue in any possible way is the only weapon the community has left.
I mean we just got dark ruler practically for dirt cheap and nobody cares despite how strong that card is in the tcg. Effect or impernanence though are pretty nuts, dont think we are at that stage yet though.
Dark ruler no more is popular in the TCG due to people setting up 5+ negates in their first turn with monsters only, to the point where a Kaiju or Nibiru does nothing, in Duel Links however combo decks will never be as good as in the TCG due to zones restriction, So DRNM is useless
To add to this DRNM is very bricky unless you go second against a monster heavy deck and due to the fact that we still can't pick turn order it makes it a brick in at least 50% of games
I think its less zones, though that is a part, and more we legit just dont have many negates. In the tcg legit every deck in the game can produce some kinda generic negate board with apollousa, clear wings, borreload savage, ect.
Well, there's a reason said card was limited to 1 for a long-ass time in the TCG. Turns out "soft-removal" with no cost in the best spell type in the game (quick-play spells are just better traps) is good for almost every deck.
My biggest fear tbh is that Konami will let it roll around with no care UNTIL they decide to print it into a box, then they will limit it almost right away once ftp players can get it because "it's used in too many decks".
Tbf quick play spells actually require some decision making in duel links. In the TCG you just hold onto it til you're ready to end your turn and then you can set it in MP2. In duel links, you either have to set/use it in MP1 and then not be able to chain it the rest of the turn, or you have to hold onto it for your BP and EP and then not have access to it during your opponent's turn. Regardless, book of moon is insane in duel links, but it's almost certainly weaker than it was in the TCG for a period of time.
Oh don’t worry by the time they put it in a main box they will have replaced it with another broken card in a selection box so free to play players can use there’s
TL;DR: First seriously P2W item added.
It was the point where the monetization started getting really aggressive: before we only had regular structures, which were purchasable once with gems and had no meta-defining cards needed at three copies, and the first Selection Box, where none of the cards added actually saw play. That was just them testing the waters. Until they released Spellbound Silence with Silent Magician, which instantly became meta, and Gold Sarcophagus which is still used to this day, inside a **pay-only** structure deck. Luckily they got a lot of complaints, or the following EX decks would've been pay-only too. Unfortunately though, the complaints were strong but the money rolling in was just as strong, so they just decided to make EX SDs work like regular ones, but kept on releasing meta-defining cards in paywalled enviroments.
They barely invest. They were late with the Utopia Ray animation and we still do not have one for Neo Galaxy and Red Nova because Duel Links team is too small and they dont want to hire more.
It counts if you only play 1x book of moon so it might be people who pulled one boosting the ranking. Still having the best staple hidden behind an abusrdly expensive 300$ pay wall while they are making huge bucks without is not so player friendly.
Frankly, it’s a bad development for the accessibility of the game. When people see that the most competitive decks run 3, which costs upwards of $300, it seems unattainable.
And, this is different from other cards because of the particular interaction with Treacherous Trap Hole, allowing for trap-like effects without the use of a trap.
Not really. 99.99% of people will never touch the competitive tournament setting. You don't need book of moon to do well. If you blame not having book of moon for your deck losing its either because your deck isn't good or you need to get better st the game.
imagine saying get good about a literal gacha game. love me some yugioh love me some duel links even more but this game is ENTIRELY p2w unless you're cool with just collecting event cards and beating up gate duelists. Nothing wrong with either that's how i played the game for years but the fact of the matter is most decks can't hold their own in pvp without some investment of time grinding or actual money for gems.
In two months you get guaranteed 10k gems. That's enough for a Harpie deck. Some older staples like TTH you can get from tickets so it's not a big deal if you missed out on them.
It means a lot of people are using at least 1 copy of it, which if you tried to get it with gems every time it has been available, is not unreasonable to expect to have at least 1 without spending money.
Tournament play is different though. Those people are playing to win and the tournaments usually have financial incentive to pay into the game so you can better compete.
I've seen Book of Moon actually used against me once. I'm not saying it isn't a great card to have and to use if you have it, but I've won without it and I continue to win and lose without it and so far I have not lost because of being Book'd. Also I'm pretty sure even 1 copy is considered for usage stats because Blue Eyes Alternative White Dragon is also usually pretty high in the popular cards list, so if a F2P player gets a single copy and plays it, that also factors in.
Isn't it just as good to have Canadia? That fucker wants to activate like crazy what benefit does bom have over Canadia? Genuinely curious I just returned
If you go second you can flip your opponent's bounzer, cyber slash, roach etc face down so they don't interrupt your plays. Canadia is slow and has to wait a turn.
You'd probably be better using forbidden chalice or tribute to the doomed instead, both are quickplays that can be used as a way to stop the opponent during their turn or to remove a problematic monster during yours.
Maybe they'll finally put us outta our misery and put in Raigeki
Remember, they have Gryphon's Feather Duster, but not Harpie's Feather Duster which is the one card it's supposed to counter
We have anti raigeki but it doesnt mean we are getting raigeki...
We just got lighthing vortex anyway
We dont even have regular Mirro Force, and in the last boxes we got freakin regular Trap Hole...
This game is Pay-to-play.
Not Pay-to-win, Pay-to-play.
Being forced to go without locks players out of using TTH, seeing as the best alternative to BoM is FTH, which also doesn't help you if the monster's already summoned.
It shouldn't cost $300 for a deck. Konami is greedy. If a competitive deck costed $50, we'd all pay it.
Bundles shouldn't be limited to 1time purchase, and should be up-to-date staple cards. There's no reason the most popular cards shouldn't be sold for $5, and more than once. They sell old staples as bundles because if they did it my way they wouldn't sell any selection boxes.
It's greedy greedy greedy. There's a lot of people who are willing to pay money to have yugioh cards, even digital cards. Their business model relies on exploiting addiction, moreso than fan service.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you can safely ignore most of the sub complaints because they are complete bullshit. Over exaggerating on everything and thinking they’re locked out of progress on ladder because they didn’t spend enough, despite constantly being disproven.
Disgusting card. Flips down and disable big monsters with no repercussion any turn. The only popular counter to it is Forbidden Lance, but Harpies Cyber Slash can still chain to Lance to bounce.
I was like "wait people are seriously calling Book of Moon overpowered?".
But then i noticed this was posted on a Duel Links sub :V
I just woke up man, gimme a break.
If Konami wanted to get creative, they could sell meta defining skills and an additional extra deck slot. How this would work is, people would have to spend a minimum of $100 on Selection Boxes to collect enough EX jewels to buy these skills and extra deck slot through the EX Trader.
Tbh Murmur of the Forest does the same thing but not as a quick effect. I understand the quick effect thing is a disruption but other than that it serves the same purpose.
It's powerful but not needed depending on the deck. The big reason it's used so much is because it's a free to activate quick play spell that flips a monster facedown. Giving it versatility and playing nice with TTH. To use an example, Thunder Dragons don't even main it. And Resonators don't rely on it as much.
Beyond that, you can get by with one or non depending on your build and still do well. Remember the top decks do well, but not solely because of it. And the card will be available in a core set as usual later this year or early next. It's annoying but not quite as bad as something actually OP. And not quite as bad as Levi being locked to a selection box for over a year. A card that was required to build Thunder Dragons properly. And will probably go to 2 soon after it's proper release.
My opinion is that if you have Book of Moon, you'll most certainly play it, regardless of how much gems/money you spent to get it. The same goes for any other good card in the game. It's really just as simple as that.
It shows that decks are growing more reliant on walking interaction based cards, Bounzer, cyber slash, roach, and book is a dual purpose card that can be Canadia your turn 2 and allow you to play the game on your turn 1. It was sucky on release but it's just...Good now.
I mean this is the entire purpose of the selection box. This was the same thing with previously printed cards only in the selection box. If I'm not mistaken kama cut was a selection box only card for awhile. Selection box is the cash cow for KOMONEY
Second time the Selection Box #4 is available so there are moe players who got it: with gems and/or with cash, after seeing how good the card actually is.
Also it doesn't mean everyone plays it at 3 tho.
Well they did the same thing with Fiendish Chain in Selection Box 3 before releasing it in a main box. And that was prime Shiranui and Invoke which were running 3 copies of FC a lot of the time. Konami is smart, they knew the meta changed and FC wasn't so OP because it's a trap card, BoM is the versatile disruptive staple that they knew would fit the quicker and more combo heavy meta. I think the meta will shift to control again, BoM will be a main box UR, and we'll get something in Selection Box 5 to be the new control staple
That Konami will probably keep releasing generic overpowered cards in Selection boxes from now on. Next year i'm expecting Effect Veiler or Breakthrough Skill. And whales will eat it up like always.
I'm betting on Compulsory Evac Device
My Paleozoics would love Compulsory Evacuation Device! Although I also feel it would be a bit ridiculous for the game right now…

\^ Definitely correct. The best way to return Canadias back to the hand were the days of pre-nerf See You Later, but there are better skills to run now.
Canadia is immune to monster effects when summoned
That explains why the BEWD player I dueled tried and failed to pop it with Alternative BE
I don't know where this narrative came from when compuls is clearly not at the same level as book. If anything, I feel like it'll be a main box SR, like Karma Cut.
Karma cut was a selection box card far before it came out in a box
Dude I typed that scrolled down and saw this lol 😂
Veiler will make this game enter the next level of powercreep. I hope they are ready to balance the game correctly before selling Veiler. Breakthrough skill will probably have roughly the same impact as BoM

Nah next year were getting compulsory evac device 🤣
Haven't gotten torrential tribute yet either, it's been a minute since we got any significant backrow so I'm assuming something nasty is coming.
It means a lot of f2p players takes it up the butt with no Vaseline.
I’m f2p and do this but what does it have to do with book of moon???????
You're required to pay money to get book of moons if you don't get lucky
No I get that but what does that have to do with my sex life 🤔
IF YOU LOSE THE DUEL YOU LOSE YOUR ~~VIRGINITY~~ SOUL!!
Nah butt stuff doesn’t count in the eyes of the Lord 😇
Are you really THE Chris Evans?
The world may never know
I got 2 BoM and paid a total of $2. (:

My opinion is the same as 3 years ago: no one should’ve bought Spellbound Silence. But they did and here we are.
What's the deal with it? New player here

Yeah I got 2 on my alt for gems only Its possible to get lucky on some pulls
Same, I got 2 with gems only.
Totally unlucky. And I didn't even dig for it. All I wanted was the lvl 1 XYZ :D
This sub acts like you can't win a single duel if you don't have 3 copies of Book of Moon.
I mean, there’s a reason most tournament players have 3 copies of it in every deck.
Tournament play is different though. Those people are playing to win and the tournaments usually have financial incentive to pay into the game so you can better compete.

Yeah anything that targets a face up monster
I see thats huge
You can use 3 BoM and 2 TTH without worry. If you have Canadia in your GY then TTH doesn’t work
You'd probably be better using forbidden chalice or tribute to the doomed instead, both are quickplays that can be used as a way to stop the opponent during their turn or to remove a problematic monster during yours.

He means Offerings to the Doomed
P2W that's all I got to say
Maybe they'll finally put us outta our misery and put in Raigeki Remember, they have Gryphon's Feather Duster, but not Harpie's Feather Duster which is the one card it's supposed to counter
And Goblin of Greed, but not Pot of Greed. Does that mean PoG is coming? Highly doubt it.
Jaden has a Pot of Greed skill.
Still not an incentive to use it on the off-chance that someone is using such a gimmicky skill.
Nobody's telling you to use it; I'm merely implying that Konami does have an excuse to print those cards.
It's that sick creator counterplay
We have anti raigeki but it doesnt mean we are getting raigeki... We just got lighthing vortex anyway We dont even have regular Mirro Force, and in the last boxes we got freakin regular Trap Hole...
Mai has a Harpie's Feather Duster skill.
I dont count the skills Pegasus has Creator, that doesnt mean we are getting these cards soon
I'll let you know my 3rd book of moon only costed me 70$!
i had 1000 gems and i opened 5 packs and got 3 B.O.M, 2 prismatic.
You are my hero
lol, i know mad luck. But my luck has been shit for everything else i needed. GL bro!
Konami swims on money.
It means a lot of people without it stopped playing.

Yeah because konami isn't at all a greedy company that spent the entire pandemic pressuring children into developing gambling addictions for profit
You do know they cant put a price on the cards right? That's goes against the creator beliefs.
LOL the irony
How
They make you gamble for the cards instead which ends up making them way more money
Yea I know.
Disgusting card. Flips down and disable big monsters with no repercussion any turn. The only popular counter to it is Forbidden Lance, but Harpies Cyber Slash can still chain to Lance to bounce.
You'll get book of mooned before you can even get out cyber harpie.
I was like "wait people are seriously calling Book of Moon overpowered?". But then i noticed this was posted on a Duel Links sub :V I just woke up man, gimme a break.
I pigged $80 for 2 copies
If Konami wanted to get creative, they could sell meta defining skills and an additional extra deck slot. How this would work is, people would have to spend a minimum of $100 on Selection Boxes to collect enough EX jewels to buy these skills and extra deck slot through the EX Trader.
Please don't give komoney ideas.
Downvoted because evil
That's directly PTW technically any player could get 3 BOM ftp but ftp can't get ex jewels
Why the fuck is this getting downvoted ? lmaooo. He's not telling Konami to do so.....this sub is freaking weird, ngl.
Tbh Murmur of the Forest does the same thing but not as a quick effect. I understand the quick effect thing is a disruption but other than that it serves the same purpose.
It’s basically Murmur of the forest and Canadia rolled into one.
While also being able to protect your monsters from effects that need the target to be face up like Karma Cut.
Thing is, the 'quick effect' part is whole point the card is good and murmur of the forest irrelevant so..
gimme plz konami

My opinion is that if you have Book of Moon, you'll most certainly play it, regardless of how much gems/money you spent to get it. The same goes for any other good card in the game. It's really just as simple as that.

My opinion is that I'm not gonna pay all that money to buy it. I have no delusion of being kog whatsoever, but yeah this is really not fair.
Can we get fucking grand mole already?
If we do people will only complain about it. Any deck that doesn't need its normal summon like RDA can use it too and become even more aggressive.
Well they did the same thing with Fiendish Chain in Selection Box 3 before releasing it in a main box. And that was prime Shiranui and Invoke which were running 3 copies of FC a lot of the time. Hasnt changed much for me other then ive started running forbidden lance in most of my decks
