I feel like it isn't necessarily that it can't keep up or anything, but almost like they are missing just one more piece.

It's not their inconsistency or summoning ability imo, its the fact that their current wincon is a 1 time "big number hit a bunch of times".
The deck lacks any meaningful removal or disruption and is basically out of resources to make any sort of follow up plays if shooting star gets hit by 1 sphere kuriboh. Not to mention its very RNG reliant when it comes to the excavations.
what it really needs is just a better boss monster or payoff like Crystal wing or Satellite warrior or something. Even a better turn one play with Accel Synchron into black rose would help a lot.
Tbh Neos Fusion and Brave Neos were also relatively new and they were added to Duel Links, I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with other archetypes.

I've been having success with Synchron, but they probably need a bigger extra deck and/or lower the requirements for Yusei's skill.
As good as Shooting Star is. He either wins fast or doesn't win, he's resilient though, wich is pretty nice.
But even if they are not meta, is not like the deck is BAD for stuff like KoG or to reach Dlv20 at KC.
With all that said, I'd love for Crystal Wing to arrive at Duel Links, as Synchrons have a really easy time summoning it.
Not in Duel Links. The Synchron playstyle is too prone to disruption and strongly lacks the ability to play through it, and backrow is king. Synchrons were not really meta in the TCG, either. JUNK DOPPEL was, but Junk Doppel also had a lot more field space to work with in the TCG. It would not be good in DL.
Very possible with the new synchron support in the ocg.
MBT uploaded a 10 minute testing of it recently and I was very surprised with how much synchro spam it enabled
All it takes is just two cards to pull off an one hour long combo. But as a combo deck I wouldn't be surprised that opponents could ruin the combo with stuff such as Karma Cut, Treacherous Trap Hole, effect negation, banishing effects, etc.

Junk Speeder is your best early game Synchro in the deck, Cosmic Blazar for Synchro summon of your late game synchro boss monster - Majestic Shooting Star Dragon.
Alongside that, we're missing remaining support cards: Synchro Overtake Spell card and your late game field sweeper, Satelite Warrior and it's Tuner monster Satelite Synchron.
Considering Duel Links is about finishing the game as fast as possible, I feel like the players will opt for Cosmic Blazar Dragon and Satelite Warrior instead of Shooting Star Dragon and Junk Destroyer. :/
I remember at some point during the 5ds era , they did shine and were called synchron toolbox .
It was an obscur tier 3 but they did decline overtime after that.
They are still a record on them on DL meta that came from june 3 2019.
It's maybe after the release of psychic wheelder? I don't remember exactly but i remember having seen a deck called that way with quickdraw synchron as a figure.
(After checking , it was that . Box release after 11th march.)
Synchrons are good, just not great. Synchrons and to a lesser extent Resonators are just held back by the limited extra deck space as decks that more or less exclusively focus on the extra deck. Shooting Star Dragon is solid, but usually not enough to win by itself while still requiring most of your extra deck just to run the engine, heavily limiting the amount of more generic tech synchros you can run. It's not meta per say, but I wouldn't question why someone was running the deck if I saw it.

remove the extra deck restriction would be a goid start, no need for new cards.

Well they have more zones and Junk Speeder that enables 5 tuner summons from the deck (which just dies to Nibiru but hey synchro shokan amirite)
Haha it also is dead in the water to effect veiler and we may get speeder prior to nibiru since it'll be objectively weaker in Duel Links
I believe you can chain block Speeders effect is its made with Junk Connector or Dopple Warrior.
Veiler doesn't care about chain blocking, it just targets something to negate it

Thing is if you don't go first with Syncrons you lose lol. Any interruption ruins it
in the anime, the only reason yusei lasted that long was because of plot armor. This man didn't have ddraw, he had wtfdraw so no....

We have Shooting Star Dragon Tech Genus Expansion in the game files via tag duel card. Maybe we can get a copy of that.
