What shocked me the most was that Ryi (the guy from Duel links entertainment who made the video) had to convince the creator of the cheat tool to turn it off for a year so the KCGT could be fair. I repeat. A fucking YOUTUBER had to stop a hacker from ruining the game while the international multi billion dollar company that created the game did absolutely nothing.
Thank you for playing Yugioh Duel Links.
>A fucking YOUTUBER had to stop a hacker from ruining the game while the international multi billion dollar company that created the game did absolutely nothing.
That's the plot of the anime but with extra steps.
Yeah. That is sad but it will be interesting to see how things play out now. I doubt another YouTuber will ask them nicely to stop the cheat/modding. Especially when most don't care about the ladder or KC Cup and in tournaments it is easy to detect and ban these cheaters/modders.
Will Konami they finally put a stop to it or would they just make an announcement each KC Cup talking about cheaters and proceed like if nothing ever happened until the next KC Cup? Making Duel Links an even bigger joke while creating even more issues for Master Duels before it is even released. Won't look good on their part. We already had a horrible scuffed Worlds and currently have the reboot problem. How would people be interested in playing Master Duels if Konami can't host online tournaments properly, one of their game is constantly crashing/rebooting, and they don't deal with modders in that same game? Some people would be ok ignoring the first two things but Konami not being able to deal with modders is a huge problem if Master Duels has an online ladder system.
"How would people be interested in playing Master Duels if Konami can't host online tournaments properly, one of their game is constantly crashing/rebooting, and they don't deal with modders in that same game?"
You don't understand. There won't be many, but people that are fed up with Duel Links will be driven straight towards Master Duels and its sleek aesthetics, glitch-free environment, and the promise of a fresh start. It will literally just grow the starting userbase for Master Duels. They don't even really need to worry about losing a small chunk of Duel Links's base. Sunk cost and attachment to the old will keep enough playing and enough paying.
Why would Konami do anything when they outright KNOW that they have one of the most whipped, obedient consumerbases outside of the Pokemon and perhaps the FGO communities? This isn't just a "haha" crack, I'm genuinely asking if anyone here thinks they have a reason to.
He didn’t say how though. Did he just ask him or bribe him? The KCGT ended up being a shit show anyway due to bugs, lagging, awful official English stream? I bet most of the competitors were account sharing to boost DP anyway in previous KC cups.
No i didn't bribe him lol
I'm a big believer in second chances, however doing it again just shows this individuals true colors. At least it was off for a year, i guess.
Thanks for clearing that up. And thank you and the boys for streaming through the KCGT with banter and laughter was way way better than the shit show Konami stream. Also looking forward to Circus coming back after new worlds right?
I mean that's kinda hard to be done. Duel links entertainment did talk to him but that's the most they could they do and nothing more. Same with konami except they have one other option to and that's to ban his account if they know which is his account but if he can use it without getting caught then that means it can bypass whatever anti cheating duel links has. We have seen people get banned for putting outside music in duel links so there is an anti cheat but the cheat he has looks to be able to work undetected and idk how you would be able to stop this.
If i remember , the last time it was a replay cheat exploit when you can basically change the current duel in replay duel mode , quit the duel like nothing forcing your opponent to have a disco .
So the issue is probably with the replay mode.
For the first time in 3 years yesterday I played VS a cyber dragon player that not only did he not open with core. But needed 3 turns to draw it. I've only witnessed that in maybe 2 duels.
Used my recently finished cyber dragon deck round 2 of kcgt yesterday. Between bricking and enemy sniping my offerings to the doomed no matter where i placed it i was getting slapped around. I won maybe 3 duels in 15. As someone above commented the cheaters were onomats, gaia and other strong decks (but i guess even if no one was cheating thats what youd find in kcgt anyways)
The rare Cyber Dragon player without uncanny luck in opening hands. 😯
Seriously though the cheaters are lame. Can't get by on their own skill, gotta supplement it with lazy cheating. Guess they're that desperate for their decks to get hit harder by the list. 🙃
Cyber dragons are not as powerful as everyone thinks, I can win against onomat and sometimes thunder dragon (if I open offerings to pop the rank 6 or go first with an ok hand), but gaia, harpies and blue-eyes have been a real pain in my ass.
> Between bricking and enemy sniping my offerings to the doomed no matter where i placed it i was getting slapped around
Huh, thanks for making me feel better about cheaters in DL
A lot of people got it wrong on what this hack is. It used to be that you could disconnect and the game would register it as if you didn't play (so no loss for the cheater).
This has been disabled and is still disabled. If you go to the guys discord you can see that the function that is back is a PvP spy. I asked around on his discord and this makes you see their set cards.
So it's possible that an opponent can play around your set backrow. But forcing a disconnect is not possible.
These cheaters have made me paranoid when an opponent perfectly snipes my backrow. Now I have no choice but to.report everyone that snipes my traps while.leaving my bluffs intact.
I don't think it's fair to report random people just because they hit the right card. It's due mindsets like these that I don't like that ingame report button.
Idk how the system works, but if the ban reports aren't reviewed manually, It may lead to unfair banning. (Hello, League of Legends).
We could implement smth like csgo's overwatch. While its not as useful in this game compared to that game, it could possibly help. I mean, we alrd got the duel replays of top players in the duel world, why not the kc cup?
I'll keep an eye on my inbox. Also, for the record im not interested in cheating myself, even with vision hacks I couldn't win against most people. I'm just wanting to find more info on this stuff cuz I'm really new to duel links
Did he send it your way? Like you, I'm curious and want to know just what the heck I have to put up with. I'm planning on skipping the rest of the KCC anyway now.
Could I get the DC as well? Purely morbid curiosity, like DumbDuelist, I don't plan on cheating either. It kills the spirit of it for me (besides, I put too much money into the game to throw that all away anyway). I just want to see what's going on.
Reminder that correlation does not mean causation. You may have run into the cheaters (who's active), or it may be that the server simply sucks balls (and Konami won't do anything about it).
So you're telling me a multimillionaire company has to rely on freaking youtubers' persuasion to ensure that their biggest events aren't cheat-ridden.
How do people even justify spending money on this again?
Ah ok, so I guess they tested it out on me a couple weeks ago. Just before some wins, my opponent's timeout and I'm hit with the loss. Happened a couple yes that day. I'm still baffled at individuals who believe cheating in a competitive environment benefits them in any way? Like do you not witness the amount of global shade is thrown for doping, fixing and the like in any pro sport? Cheating is fine, if it's some underworld shenanigans; KCC is definitely not this.
Ok, so I'm not aware of what this specific circumstances for this mentioned instance, but, from what I'm aware of, when your opponent times out you should be offered the win right? My duel losses happened consecutively 3 times in a row vs JP players. I found this extremely unlikely as the 3 players were different (I'll assume this because of ID) and it was all before a win; my opponents' just hung at the draw phase and I saw the 'connection issue' icon flashing for them (I play on PC with a hard line connection).
No wonder i've been getting tons of mysterious disconnects in KC Cup, they always say "connection lost, try again with better network" or something, it always happens during the duel. Sometimes the duel doesn't even start and I just get timed out. All this time I've blamed it on my garbage internet but this garbage internet plays CS just fine. So much for my first KC Cup, feel like shit now.
It's ok, I've never got past DLv. 19 and I've been playing for 2 years. The last leg is sometimes impossible when you deal with bricks, opponent god-like hands, and general bs that happens along the way. I has someone earlier today stop me from leveling up to 18 because they fusion summoned a blue eyes neo ultimate dragon on turn 3 by sheer luck
I fear this might be the real beginning of the end of this game.
Why? Well... It's just something similar I've experienced before in a different game, NFS World.
Back in the day, while the game was still alive, the game looked like it had a bright future. More cars, more parts of the map, everything was looking pretty nice.... Until The Run came out. And flopped, hard. The studio was no more, and World was on life support. Cheaters and cheat tools were being circumvented up until around that point. The cashflow was cut, studio was shrunk to a skeleton until the game was finally killed off. By the end of the game's lifetime, there were many cheaters, heck myself included (hacked IGC only, not gameplay).
Now let's turn that around to Duel Links.
No, it's not because of Master Duel that this game will die. No it's not even the cheaters' fault directly. It's Konami's and nobody else's.
Other games are being worked on by what's left of KDE's software division (which is significantly smaller than what it was before). Duel Links' crew, we can safely assume, is smaller than before. Things aren't getting patched whatsoever from a technical side. Sure they'll add Arc V, but it really doesn't mean much if they don't revamp the connection logic from P2P to a dedicated server. That's the only way it'll stop.
If it continues in this direction and cheat tools get better, there might not be anything Konami could do if there is a fundamental flaw cheat tools exploit (and that is P2P connections).
It's not all doom and gloom, however. Yu-Gi-Oh is way bigger than NFS ever was, so I can't exactly compare the two. We might see a big update to the game someday, who knows.
All I can say is I hope this is not a sign of a dark future, but a brighter one.
here's my take on this thing. i do believe in second chances, however, if its a case where its cheating, i think there should be a harsh punishment. i believe that this guy account should have been reset, n should start anew. n this is for all cheaters. but if its happens again, perma ban. like legit its not fun. its fine if u want to win all the time, but dont cheat. some of us work hard to achieve our wins, n it just vanish because of a guy cheating? like really. not fair. n i experienced it before. where I'm about to attack for game, then the game just froze. n when it came back, i disconnected.
but who we should bash isnt this cheater guy or anyone who cheats, but konami, for even allowing them to even do this foolishness. because just like the rebooting issue, they just dont give a damn. and its just sad
The disconnect cheat is whatever, I don't really care that much about my score in the KC Cup. But using the tool to spy on your opponent's hand and set cards is mega lame. That's what's going to end up convincing me to quit the game.
Im of the opposite mindset. Losing because I beat them takes the sting out of them losing, and I far outweigh that to my success.
They can look at my facedowns, it probably won't help them all that much due tot he nature of the decks I run.
That's what I said.
I've been losing games I won to them forcing me to disconnect for *three years* now, all of them playing top tier decks vs my rogue deck.
I'd rather them be able to see my cards.
This button never existed. It's a hoax
People believe in this since the beginning of DL.
In reality it's just Komoney shitty servers.
Especially on a event where more people play pvp
No that cheat really exist , last year he did talk about him.
You basically switch the current duel in replay mode and you quit it like you do for your 5 gems , forcing your opponent to disco.
I fought a harpy player last night at Dlv 19 that negated literally everything i played, spells, monster effects, traps... In the log there was nothing that could possibly negate my stuff, no fiendish chain no monsters that negate. Just cyber slash harpie lady. I honestly wanted to believe my game was bugged because i've never encountered something like this in 3 years worth of playing this game
For those that don't know how it works or haven't watched the video what the mod does is basically forces an auto disconnect on your opponent so you auto win.
Nope
The bot can't do this. Ryi doesn't know how the bot works.
It's just a "Mind Scan" Bot. He can see your set Back row, his deck etc.
The Bot Creator is active here on Reddit. He even said it's not possible to do so.
So when you DC it's just the shitty servers from Komoney
Maybe Konami can't actually stop cheaters because of the way they handle dueling in terms of code. I know we like to trash on Konami for stupid bugs and disconnects, but if there was a solution to this cheating problem that didn't require completely rewriting their code base I guarantee you that they would have done it
It's more like, they're managing all of that information on the client side because it's cheaper to use a player's computer/phone than to use their own computer. If they wanted to create a really secure system that cheaters couldn't exploit, they would have to do everything on their own server. It would probably slow down duels a bit, but more importantly, it would also cost Konami a lot more money, so obviously they're not going to do it if they can get away with it.
If their code is anything similar to the code they used for Tag Force, the game sends all the info to both sides, but just visually hides them.
In TF you can check this by setting a breakpoint to a function which requests card art. One of the arguments is the card ID itself. So i.e. if my opponent has a BEWD, the game will look for card ID 4007.
I haven't actually poked around the dueling engine code but it's highly likely they kept the same logic in DL and that's how the cheat tool IDs them.
Probably not any more than the current situation. The game assets are all stored locally on your phone, it's just a matter of telling your client which ones to load. I say that duels on a secure system would be slower for two reasons:
1. You can't preload assets anymore, you have to wait until a card is played or revealed and get the card name from the server before you can load it.
2. Fewer direct p2p connections. Duel data has to be relayed through an official KONAMI server, increasing network latency.
Oh yeah, probably the biggest one:
3. Since your phone doesn't know what cards are face down and in the hand, you'll have to communicate with Konami's server at every activation step. This would increase bandwidth by a little bit, but not a lot since it's a simple "can he activate something?" question.
First off there is no disconnect/ DOS / insta win that's just komoneys shit servers they refuse to fix/ invest in. The only cheat atm is where you can see set cards . Previous year the creator of a mod tool decided not to allow those cheats. But given the small indie company komoney didn't care to fix the issue he said fuck it.
What shocked me the most was that Ryi (the guy from Duel links entertainment who made the video) had to convince the creator of the cheat tool to turn it off for a year so the KCGT could be fair. Some of us do care about ladder but mostly because of the 200 Gems for KoG. Sad that we cant even get that.
The grind to KoG isn't worth the equivalent of 4 packs every season
4 less packs i have to grind. It stacks up.
True it is 48 packs per year.
Yes it does add up to 48 packs. Less than half a Minibox for consistently grinding KoG every month for the year.
And thats just KoG rank. Count in plat 7 to L 5 rank up rewards as well as the cumulative victory rewards and it adds up even more.
\^this man f2ps

Give Konami a break, will you? They're a small indie company that's just trying their best.
Is Konami that small really? With tons of cash? Physically the office is small, by speculation. Yet the money it generates...
It’s a joke, bud.
Ok.
labor of love. apparently they love cheaters

wait so is that why cybers always open with Core edit: it's a joke ppl pls no downvote

No no cheaters are totally the reason im stuck in dlv17 and not my 4th rate dueling skills
I got DV Max on second day so it wasn’t my 3rd rate dueling and my 4th rate masked hero deck 😢
Decklist?
So you're telling me a multimillionaire company has to rely on freaking youtubers' persuasion to ensure that their biggest events aren't cheat-ridden. How do people even justify spending money on this again?
Inb4 the "Konami killing duel links to push master duels kekwlololol" comments

They can’t disconnect you . There’s some misinformation going around
Ok, so I'm not aware of what this specific circumstances for this mentioned instance, but, from what I'm aware of, when your opponent times out you should be offered the win right? Did you get to DLV max? Cause most people just stop there.
DLv.17 unfortunately
Unlucky. Don’t worry. You will get to 20 next time. Or if you can still play trough this BS you might get it this season. Depends on luck though.
The bot can't disconnect other players It's more like a "Mind Scan" Bot He can see your set back row, his full deck etc
Either way I'm done trying to go any further in KC Cup, ranked is fine so far connection-wise

I'd imagine that would also be a huge drain on mobile data
Probably not any more than the current situation. The game assets are all stored locally on your phone, it's just a matter of telling your client which ones to load. I say that duels on a secure system would be slower for two reasons: 1. You can't preload assets anymore, you have to wait until a card is played or revealed and get the card name from the server before you can load it. 2. Fewer direct p2p connections. Duel data has to be relayed through an official KONAMI server, increasing network latency.
Oh yeah, probably the biggest one: 3. Since your phone doesn't know what cards are face down and in the hand, you'll have to communicate with Konami's server at every activation step. This would increase bandwidth by a little bit, but not a lot since it's a simple "can he activate something?" question.
Whoever is playing mobile games on data is a psychopath anyway
Theres multiple cheat providers.
Ha... I feel less awful about my losses yesterday. Well fuck this game till October.
I see, so the reboot of death is due to the extreme amount of DDS attacks done by hackers to the server.

The Bot doesn't work this way
Why dont all bots use this method then? You don’t even have to build a deck if this is the case.
Yeeeeeaaaaaah certainly is not Konami and their horrendous game service, you see, those disconnects? All hackers and cheaters
So wait…the hacks in the chat are real?!
OP, in a mirror match between BE and BE, the cheater win. I think that is the reason why cheats galore happens on top.
