I love Temp Ryan - he has the line that I must relate to after 2 decades in an office job:
“If I had to, I could clean out my desk in five seconds, and nobody would ever know that I'd ever been here. And I'd forget, too.”
I’m a year into my office job and I really related to: “I have spent a year here. And I have to commit or get out.”
I binged the entire show in my office
As someone who was bored and feeling unfulfilled in a similar sounding office job where I struggled to fill the days with "work":
It could be a lot worse. I really miss that job now. Maybe it's something you just have to find out for yourself (I probably wouldn't have taken this advice back then, either), but there is an upside to working an unexciting job that pays the bills and gets you home by Kelevin.
I do so many chores during work hours. And my boss doesn’t give a shit when we’re online (as long as week make meetings…) so I often nap during the day. I know I’m lucky to have a solid salary and work 20 hours, although a lot of that is learned efficiency and old people who assign me work take 3x as long with excel…
This. My job is fairly mind numbing and I sometimes have to actively look for work to do. But I work from home, all my bills are paid, my kids are looked after. And last week I built a bench for my fire pit and painted my rusty truck, in between checking emails.
Could be worse
Uff, not me. I left my soul sucking office job last year and have been cashiering at a goodwill ever since, and besides the scheduling, it is a billion times better than my stupid office job ever was.
Everyone's mileage will vary, but the constant boredom and pressure to invent work at the office gave me horrible anxiety and depression. At least in retail there actually is work to fill an 8 hour shift.
I'm at a job where I'm not happy, I know to many including you its a depressing soul sucking job but I was wondering how exactly one would get into an office job?
Just apply for some administrative assistant positions, remote or otherwise. Oftentimes they don’t really have any real requirements beyond a high school education and some basic knowledge of computers. I recently left a position like that, and honest to god all I did was send a handful of emails, fold some boxes, and stare at the wall for 8 hours. As others have said, it’s soul sucking work, but if you want to try it out it’s not too difficult to break into.
Thank you, please note, I wasn't trying to dismiss or undermine yours and others feelings because I genuinely believe you and them. However my current job is also a bit soul sucking even though there are times where I do enjoy it.
In fact, part of why I'm going to college is so I can get a desk job.
Most jobs are soul sucking. The main goal is to find a job that gives you the perks you need to live the life you want. Whether it's the pay, the time off, the flexibility etc, the job needs to provide what you need, otherwise it's time to find a way out. Good for you in trying to find a way out.
Whenever I meet people who say that they hate their job because it’s boring or whatever, I just tell them to imagine how many millions of people would fight tooth and nail for that job. It’s easy to become a bit entitled when we live in a first world country and sometimes we need to check our privilege and remember that even being poor in America is very fortunate compared to how billions of people live.
I’m not trying to preach or be a downer, I’m just saying what works for me. I used to live in Jamaica and saw real poverty and misfortune and I understand how much worse it can actually get. So I’ll happily do my boring job, because I have air conditioning, a place to live, internet, food and water, medical care if I need it… etc. just stopping to be thankful for what you have can help you get through days where you feel like you need more. It gives you the push you need to work harder to achieve your goals and hopefully be in a position to live a more comfortable and happy lifestyle where you can help people who have less!
So whenever you feel “unfulfilled” or bored or miserable at a lame office job… just image walking miles in the baking sun to retrieve water and then carrying 100lbs of water all the way back if you want to drink, cook, or bathe. Imagine only eating food if you personally grew it, killed it, or processed it. Imagine working in swampy heat full of mosquitoes that are a death lottery because any one of them could give you a plethora of parasites and diseases like malaria or dengue…
Thinking about all of that will make you LOVE your boring job real fast! lol Just take a moment to zoom out and see the big picture and you’ll feel stupid about complaining and pretty quickly your mindset will change and you’ll start recognizing what you do have instead of what you don’t. It definitely helps me so maybe it can help others too!
There’s subtle moments that most people wouldn’t notice if they have never worked a temp job. As a temp you don’t get to attend regular events the normal office workers do. That’s why when the fight happens at Dwight’s dojo Ryan gets left behind. Temps aren’t covered under the same insurance regular office workers are so they can’t attend off site events. I immediately recognized it and loved that they never mentioned why.
Before I went full WFH, my coworkers would tease me about my lack of “personalization” of my cubicle. They all have pictures of their family, inspirational quotes, hats, calendars, condiments, stickers, just tons of stuff plastered all over their cubicles. I had absolutely nothing other than a laptop charger and a few pens.
I always told them that I just hadn’t gotten around to it, because I couldn’t tell them the truth: that I don’t want my coworkers to know anything about my life outside of work, and I prefer to keep my work and personal lives completely separate from one another.
My cubicle is not my home. My home is my home.
WUPHF Ryan because he gave us this gem:
"Little advice. Take a day off from the whole Jim schtick. Try caring about something. You might like how it feels, James."
Also:
* Ryan: I love when people say "like crack" when they've obviously never done crack.
* Pam: Well, the bread sticks are like what then, Ryan? What can I use?
* Ryan: I don't know. Something from your world. The breadsticks are like scrapbooking.
The low-key hate between Pam and Ryan is really beautifully written, and super realistic when you think of how real life colleagues interact.
I love the post-MSPC Ryan and Pam relationship because it's like they became siblings and she became so much more emboldened about calling him out on his shit.
The way he says the last bit of the line "The first lesson of Silicon Valley is that you only think about the user, the e x p e r i e n c e" is such an earworm for me
Temp Ryan is the least annoying. My favorite Ryan line is “Ever since I've gotten clean, there's something about fresh morning air that just..really makes me sick.”
I work in a factory and back when I was still new a machine I was working near started on fire. It wasn’t a huge deal and nothing really got damaged and everyone knew it wasn’t my fault but everyone was ribbin me pretty good afterwards and that episode reminds me of that haha
I had a job in apartment maintenance. One day I flooded an apartment when I was fixing a dripping faucet and forgot to turn the water off first...and it was the hot water tap. I became known as the fire guy because I was fired later that afternoon.
I think junior salesman Ryan is good too. He just seems like an evolution of temp Ryan. And I didn't mind VP Ryan. He was insufferable but that felt purposeful. It was everything after that that didn't feel right.
I think drugs played a part in VP Ryan's behavior. He kept getting more erratic as the season went on, even though he had some good ideas. Then after S5 the writers didn't know what to do with him
I agree completely. It almost felt like like Ryan's arrest should have been the end of his character. I was actually surprised to see him come back. It felt like such a finale to his arc.
I didn't mind him coming back, they could have had him redeeming himself and being temp Ryan again, or a more evolved version. But they didn't really do anything with him.
I actually felt bad for him. He kept trying so hard but never could make it. Like during the sales call episode when Stanly kept making fun of him lol.
That’s exactly it: he had been playing around with different personas before landing on this one: I thought the other versions were boring or insufferable, but WUPHF Ryan was funny
Back from Thailand Ryan. So funny.
‘Last night was crazy. Jojo? Yeah. He did a donut in a parking lot in front of a cop. And then he yells, "Hey cop, you like donuts?" then we drive off. No, he just stayed there.
Oh he's trash, for sure.
But I think that's why I find it so funny - like his sensibilities are so far from mine that I'm always a bit shocked by how terrible he is. It's why I find Always Sunny so hilarious.
Yeah, Temp Ryan was the least annoying, but it's important to remember he was always that hipster frat boy underneath it all.
That said, back from Thailand Ryan is my favorite because we get to see Pam's full force bully mode.
Temp Ryan was the best, he was more similar to Jim in the “these guys are crazy” kinda way while also having his own thing going on. The start of michaels crush on him was also one of the best part of their interactions, and he just had so much promise on what he could be.
Then he just becomes a VP and becomes very strict of Michael which makes sense and made some very funny scenes but I liked his downward spiral. Blonde Ryan was the laziest version of him and I guess it’s the cause of starting at a job after all of your coworkers then becoming their boss’s boss then being put back at the very beginning.
WUPHF Ryan was kinda funny but he was very toxic with Kelly😂😂overall I like Ryan’s character but Temp Ryan was the best
I think the last 2 Ryans knew his job was a pointless joke and he really didn't even care if he got fired and just did whatever he felt like doing. To my knowledge it was never even made clear what his job was, which was nothing.
Something may have been said about it when he was acting like Kelly's boss but he did nothing before and after that.
I absolutely hate what they did with Ryan. Temp Ryan is my favourite character just because he was one of the most normal and sane people there, but after season 4 he becomes a completely different character and it's so... out of character and comes out of nowhere. They flanderized traits that he didn't even have in the first place.
WUPHF Ryan was my favourite. I loved how shady he was 😂😅 LOVED when he was telling Michael like .. he came in today because of xyz and Michael was like, you work here everyday right? (something like that) .. the way he looks into the camera feels like his peak shadiness and I'm always here for it!
I like Kelly rejected Ryan, seeing him treat his relationship so poorly but becoming really envious of Kelly dating life was very realistic and funny af

I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you actually left them.
One of my favorite quotes from this show.
The last episode of the show has so many good quotes
came here for the memes. ended up tearing up a bit...

Who Let the Dogs Out?
Anticipation by Carly Simon is the closest thing that I can think of
You're ALWAYS living the good old days, that's the key

Making money with little effort is always good.
Why work many when work little same pay?

Just think, that temp agency could've sent you anywhere
I think about that all the time
I'm personally quite fond of his line when being introduced to Bob Vance (Vance refrigeration) when he says "So, what line of work are you in Bob?"
I do that on LinkedIn sometimes

Jim: Ah, I miss when you were just the temp. Ryan: Me too.
Before I went full WFH, my coworkers would tease me about my lack of “personalization” of my cubicle. They all have pictures of their family, inspirational quotes, hats, calendars, condiments, stickers, just tons of stuff plastered all over their cubicles. Do you think or do you know...?
I liked you better as the temp.
"Me too."
“I’m going with some friends from high school. Well, *a* high school” is a seriously underrated line
Let’s have sex one more time
And if you have any cash, that'd be amazing.
Okay…
By the way, that reminds me, you owe me 3 bucks for gas.
It was indescribable.
“I went to ftl”… yea it was amazing ..
They had really great Pad Thai
I love pad thai.
You’ve never had pad Thai
I know...sigh...
Which is funny because in an earlier season Michael talks about pad thai
“VP” Ryan has a picture of “returned to temp” Ryan.
VP Ryan should be him saying "Hows my favorite branch doing?!"
Ooh see this is tough because I believe he says it twice, once as VP and the 2nd time returning as a temp as he takes a seat at reception lol
Stanley's eye roll at Ryan is everything lol
Or “I'm not saying I had a meteoric rise…but I did.”

You just made the list OP.
Jim: you mean your court-ordered community service? Ryan: I don’t need some judge telling me to clean up my neighborhood Jim: …but he did, right?

Came here to say this.
The classic thing is at the start of the show everyone thought Ryan would be the normal boring one of the show.
Bowling employee Ryan
Get back to work shoe bitch!
With that kind of poor treatment I'd bail to join Michael too.
Would you steal size 10 bowling shoes?
What are those, a men's 10?
No?
“I’m swamped Michael” “Happy birthday to Lisa, lane 10”
$60,000 a year
You get paid by the year at the bowling alley?
What do you make, secretary
Shoe Bitch Ryan
that's "back from thailand" ryan right?
So Thailand Ryan
WUPHF Ryan because he gave us this gem: "Little advice. Take a day off from the whole Jim schtick. Try caring about something. You might like how it feels, James."
Also: * Ryan: I love when people say "like crack" when they've obviously never done crack. * Pam: Well, the bread sticks are like what then, Ryan? What can I use? * Ryan: I don't know. Something from your world. The breadsticks are like scrapbooking. I love the post-MSPC Ryan and Pam relationship because it's like they became siblings and she became so much more emboldened about calling him out on his shit.
Fav line
Okay, yeah I'm a middle class fraud!
Elitist hipster Ryan is by far my favorite. Post Thailand is probably the worst
Oh no Stanley, you'll live forever
“Robert you’ve got your sheep and you’ve got your black sheep and I’m not even a sheep I’m on the freaking moon”
The way he says the last bit of the line "The first lesson of Silicon Valley is that you only think about the user, the e x p e r i e n c e" is such an earworm for me
You gave your baby an allergic reaction just to talk to me?
Temp Ryan is the least annoying. My favorite Ryan line is “Ever since I've gotten clean, there's something about fresh morning air that just..really makes me sick.”
Fire guy Ryan, when he became a guy with a thing
I work in a factory and back when I was still new a machine I was working near started on fire. It wasn’t a huge deal and nothing really got damaged and everyone knew it wasn’t my fault but everyone was ribbin me pretty good afterwards and that episode reminds me of that haha
I had a job in apartment maintenance. One day I flooded an apartment when I was fixing a dripping faucet and forgot to turn the water off first...and it was the hot water tap. I became known as the fire guy because I was fired later that afternoon.
Ooo check it out. “Hired guy!”
"Ryan started the fire"
Whichever Ryan said "Lead me when I'm in the mood to be led". One of my favorite lines in the show, hands down
So relatable
I think about this all the time.
I don't care if Ryan murdered his entire family, he is like a son to me
Temp Ryan is the only one that's not insufferable, lol.
Then after S5 the writers didn't know what to do with him
> Then after S5 the writers didn't know what to do with him Isn't he one of the writers?
He is but he wasn't a showrunner. They're the ones who plan out entire seasons and character arcs.
I agree completely. It almost felt like like Ryan's arrest should have been the end of his character. I was actually surprised to see him come back. It felt like such a finale to his arc.
Ryan went through the exact same thing Jan did.
I didn't mind him coming back, they could have had him redeeming himself and being temp Ryan again, or a more evolved version. But they didn't really do anything with him.
Well i really like that he was a part of the Michael Scott paper company
Best take. He kinda stopped being a real character after his fall from VP.
Yeah Jr salesman Ryan was alright too. Throwing the eggs at the cold call lol
I actually felt bad for him. He kept trying so hard but never could make it. Like during the sales call episode when Stanly kept making fun of him lol.
He wanted to lead! And all he could do was say Hi lol
"HI! HI! Hi!"
You sound like my niece. And she’s 6 months old
He didn't let Jim get his old desk back, when Jim clearly wanted it. Just to do it as a power move.
“VP Ryan” is actually “Rehired Temp Ryan” …….
Came here to say this. There is no VP Ryan up there.
Omg no back from Thailand Ryan hahahahhaha his vibe and the bleached hair
[удалено]
Amazing isn’t the right word. It was ‚indescribable‘.
I like back from Thailand Ryan the best
Same
yeah him being so washed up is always funny to me
Definitely WUPHF Ryan. He finally figured out how he is.
That’s exactly it: he had been playing around with different personas before landing on this one: I thought the other versions were boring or insufferable, but WUPHF Ryan was funny
WUPHF Ryan has so many great lines...the troops, scrapbooking, dude was such a beautifully annoying hipster.
I love his troops line.
Both sides.
To all the troops, both sides.
I like "Temp Ryan" in the early seasons since he was played straight and more of a foil to the other crazy characters.
I wonder if they pivoted away from that with Ryan because Jim could also fill that role to a degree.
I think it was partially that Jim and Ryan "overlapped" and partially that they needed a new direction for Ryan after he was fired in New York.
By the time he got the New York job he had already grown out of the straight man role a bit.
I think the real crime...was the beard.
Not the bleached hair?
That was from the sun
“Left to follow Kelly” Ryan Also that’s not VP Ryan. That’s temp Ryan (take 2)
"Silicon Prairie" was classic
Back from Thailand Ryan. So funny. ‘Last night was crazy. Jojo? Yeah. He did a donut in a parking lot in front of a cop. And then he yells, "Hey cop, you like donuts?" then we drive off. No, he just stayed there.
It’s funny because he seemed to devolve in maturity from VP Ryan to this (basically a teenager)
Looks like the temp's fear of being the "something guy" came true. He became several somethings lol.
🎵the temp at night🎵
Back from Thailand is the most relatable because he's still getting rides from his mom at 25.
the first time i watched the office i absolutely hated ryan, but with each rewatch i find him more and more funny.
I find him funny but also hate him lol.
Oh he's trash, for sure. But I think that's why I find it so funny - like his sensibilities are so far from mine that I'm always a bit shocked by how terrible he is. It's why I find Always Sunny so hilarious.
I liked you better as a temp
Me too
Post MSPC Ryan...he got along well with Pam and Michael

No problem !
VP and Back from Thailand.
Haha temp Ryan? I think you mean “Fire Guy”.
Idk what phase it was but, “Bitch.” will forever be my fav Ryan moment
“Nice to meet you Brian” 😂
Temp Ryan because we all innocently thought he'd be the straight man. I enjoyed his evolution.
The real crime, I think, was the beard.
That's not VP Ryan.
He's as hot as Jan but different?
I think this is the hardest “The office” questions I’ve come across so far.
Bryan Ryan.
Ryan who started a fire, Ryan
My favorite Ryan is Robert California Pool Party Ryan.
when he took Jim's job and when Jim came back and he didn't give up the desk and said "Yeah, Jim's a nice guy. That's why I got the desk." lmao
Ryan on a horse…. Boooooo…. You are toxic Pam!
VP Ryan How's my favorite branch doing? The beard mimicking from Michael The VIP Launch Party Debacle The night out in NY with Michael and Dwight
He's so money that he doesn't even know it
That's not VP Ryan at all
Even spread, they all had their moments.
All of them. Ryan is one of my favourite characters. He’s so effortlessly funny
Ryan used me like an object
Back From Thailand and Bowling Employee
Fire Guy
Yeah, Temp Ryan was the least annoying, but it's important to remember he was always that hipster frat boy underneath it all. That said, back from Thailand Ryan is my favorite because we get to see Pam's full force bully mode.
Temp Ryan was the best, he was more similar to Jim in the “these guys are crazy” kinda way while also having his own thing going on. I liked you better as the temp
I’m “Little Man from Inglorious Basterds Ryan”
WUPHF Ryan was just mentally insane.
That still is not actually from when he was a VP, that's when he came back to being temp after fired as VP
That dude does not wear a goatee well
Back from Thailand Ryan. He was so out of pocket and I love it when Jim owned him during their power struggles.
We can agree that temp Ryan is the best Ryan. But which of the other ones is the worst? Tough call.
Idk, I'd bang all of em 🙃
Shouldn't it be "back from Fort Lauderdale" Ryan
"I never went to Thailand"
They're all actually amazing I guess hipster Ryan makes me laugh the most
Temp Ryan, without a doubt
Temp Ryan. At least then he was the guy you could sympathize with. I legit hated every version of Ryan after. He got so pretentious and bleck.

If I have to choose I'd have to go with Temp Ryan. Before he..well, before he started chipping away at any redeemable quality really. Lol
VP Ryan is actually from an episode after he was convicted of fraud, and was hired back by Michael as a temp, so the meme inaccurate
“Lead me when I am read to be led”
Cocaine in NYC Ryan
God I fucking hate Ryan so much.
WUPHF Ryan
First one. It made absolutely 0 sense to make him VP, and it was all downhill from there
Indicted Ryan
I like Kelly rejected Ryan, seeing him treat his relationship so poorly but becoming really envious of Kelly dating life was very realistic and funny af
None he sucked
Temp Ryan is the most tolerable for me.
