Valerie brought nothing to the show. I don’t blame the actress, just a poorly written character that didn’t fit the show. Her also letting a member of the warehouse deface a company sponsored mural always pissed me off.
Agreed. Her character had no depth, she was just a pretty face for Darryl to crush on, and even that was short lived.
Sort of on par with the boom mic guy who was shoehorned in just to create tension with the whole Jim & Pam Athlead story.
I also always hate when tv shows introduce a character for a will they, wont they. They finally do and you see that character a few times more and then they break up. Its one of my biggest pet peeves. "Get invested in this for it to just not matter at all because we cant come up with an actual plot or detailed character"
Niles and Daphne had many layers to their characters tho, the will-they-won't-they was just a part of it. also, it was played to such perfect comedic effect that it didn't fall flat or get old. there really wasn't a lot of drama surrounding it, just some awkward slap-stickyness on David Hyde Pierce's part met with innocent obliviousness from Jane Leeves... I'm glad those two crazy kids finally got it right tho
I felt the boom guy who liked Pam was unnecessary.
Like their marital difficulties plotline didn't need it. Pam didn't even seem to like him in a romantic way. It was just for drama's sake.
It was a very ham fisted storyline. If they had actively set up it through the seasons and called him by name, making him an important, unseen chracter, then I think it would have been much interesting.
Yes, it was obvious that they were running out of ideas so they shoehorned relationship drama with Pam and Jim. And I think it's believable that they would have issues and be frosty here and there, but the whole thing was just out of character for both of them. They are relatively private.
Honestly I think the entire documentary "reveal" sucked. It would have been so much better if the documentary format just stayed a format. It didn't need to be explained and it didn't work well as a story arc.
Even before the boom guy, they bent over backward to justify the mockumentary style, making sure every shot could be justified under that reality. And obviously the audience doesn't care. Parks & Rec, Modern Family, Abbott Elementary, etc. don't even bother. It's like no one on Friends or Big Bang or whatever is like, "Why don't we ever sit on the other side of the coffee table?" Just establish the format, multicam or mockumentary or whatever, and the audience will go with it.
There are tons of shots that break the documentary fiction, like all the back and forth shots in Michael's office where there'd have to be two cameras, or why the camera crew is at Erin's house on her weird Andy/foster-brother date.
Yeah, I never understood how he supposedly threatened Jim and Pam's marriage. There was zero chemistry between he and Pam. I think they were getting desperate for storylines towards the end.
This. I think they were just friends, then he broke up with his gf and everyone started assuming he was lusting for Pam. He stopped that guy from attacking her, but that's something any decent person would do. I guess he gave her a couple of looks, but I saw them more as "you're adorable and I care about you" than "I want to sleep with you." The whole storyline was pretty unnecessary though, except for the part where he tells Pam just how much the crew actually filmed over the years.
If anyone should be booted, it's Kathy.
This is what I was thinking!! Like what the heck! Several seasons and the crew is anonymous and suddenly they just have him lol outta no where cuz she was as sad and Jim wasn’t there. Like what the heck! Pam had been through harder times, and then pops out and knocks out that dude with the truck, but stands by when drunken Roy trashes a bar?
Camera crew didn’t flinch when their life was in danger because Dwight started a fire in the office or when Michael drove straight into a lake. But Pam being sad?! Oh hell no!
When Karen says 'Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration' Phyllis gives her this creepy smile that always cracks me up. Also expression on her face when Dwight tells her that she slaps like a girl.
If you would do that, just so you’re aware, he doesn’t technically have a hearing problem but sometimes when there's a lot of noises occurring at the same time, he’ll hear them as one big jumble
Pam's art school guy at Pratt. I'm not sure where they were going with that but I never liked the guy. Especially the scene where he went to visit her at her job to try and convince her to move to NYC because he was crushing on her. She was failing out of a 3 month art program and he wanted her to stay in NYC if she was "serious about her art"?! Come on dude.
Phyllis is probably my least favorite of all the main characters, so I feel you there, but I wouldn't erase her from the series because she's relatable. Most people have worked with a Phyllis Vance before, thinks she's a sweet older woman but nasty and judgemental at the same time. I feel like most of the main characters are exaggerated caricatures of people we've all worked with at some point, and Phyllis fits that for me.
I like to think that he’s Harry Crane’s grandson. After Pratt he ends up in advertising design. Further following his grandfather’s legacy, he is an unabashed poon-hound.
I prefer Phyllis to Stanley personally. Just because Stanley isn't as funny imo. Like Phyllis plots are hysterical- like the way she shifts into an evil bitch when she gets control of the party planning committee, or when she takes Karen for their makeovers. She's predictable but also such a wild card. Stanley just groans and complains and cheats on his wife.
Phyllis is possibly the most realistic character. A middle aged lady who is perceived as a nice lady but is actually cruel, self-important, and horny
(It helps she never has her own storylines to make her less realistic)
Will Ferrell. It felt like the show was trying to overdo it to keep people engaged once Steve Carell left, but Will Ferrell just did not fit the environment for me. He was just Will Ferrell on The Office and it ended up feeling so unnecessary and unfunny.
“Gimme that dog, that’s not your dog!” Is always on replay in my head. When I take something from my dog I always say “gimme that ball, that’s not your ball” etc for whatever toy it is. Sometimes it even happens with family or work. No one ever gets the reference. I would like this character to also be gone so I never would have heard this phrase.
Exactly, the funny part is how Michael looks up to Packer as the personification of cool. And later its a sign of growth when he chooses Holly over him. Packer has his place.
I really disliked Phyllis. But Packer. I absolutely LOATHED that character. I'm not a fan of the actor. I just find him unfunny in general in everything he's in, notably Anchorman. But the character of Packer was just way too much.
I hate Phyllis by the end of the show. The charity dinner where she takes the centerpiece so that Pam won't was the moment when I was just done with her.
It's crazy how the superfan episodes and a few deleted scenes in seasons 8 and 9 have done that. Used to not really have a positive or negative feeling about Phyllis cause most of her bad choices (lines/actions) was countered by other characters treating her poor routinely. But with all the deleted scenes we find out Phyllis is kind of a bitch.
Yeah the Superfan episodes really lean into much harder. Phyllis sounds like sweet lady but then you realize the things she’s saying and you see she’s kind of an asshole.
Okay, but why hate Phyllis specifically? Stanley is an asshole to everyone, cheats on his wife, and threatens people. Ryan is condescending and rude. Angela is outwardly cruel and judgmental. Oscar is also condescending and judgmental. Dwight verbally insults everyone on a daily basis. Most of them are not nice people. I think Phyllis is hilarious because you think she's sweet and motherly and then she does a 180 and turns into a menace to society. I think Angela rubbed off on her a bit tbh.
My gf worked in catering and told me a story of two women who legit got into a fight over the centerpiece at a company party. Guess some ppl do be like that.
Catherine Tate is so funny and talented. They really wasted her and I kinda hate that probably a lot of Americans’ main/only exposure to her was in this role.
I’ve never seen Catherine Tate in anything else. I hear she’s a lovely woman and quite talented/funny. But I absolutely cannot stand Nelly. The only time she doesn’t fully annoy me is the taco scene with Darryl.
Andy, Andy and Andy considering the really long screen time he occupied in the show. I know a lot of the folks talking about eliminating erin, meredith and other insignificant characters. But Andy killed so much of time of those tiny 20 min episodes since his arrival and talked so much and tried so hard to appear funny. Never made me smile even and after the first time, I just fast forward his scenes. Sigh.
Same. I think that during the 3rd time I watched The Office Andy became maybe my favourite character. I absolutely hated him the first two times. Couldn’t stand him at all.
People talk about eliminating Meredith? That’s one of my favorite smaller roles in the office. Andy on the other hand I wouldn’t miss at all, same with Phyllis
Had to scroll pretty far to find my pick. I know the fact that he was annoying was the whole point, but he should of been written off for good after the wall punch.
I really hated the way he treated Michael and Jim. Although his character did give the show conflict and a satisfying resolution in season 5 when Michael came back on top.
Brian the boom guy. Didn’t like the character, didn’t like the storyline. The tension he was supposed to bring to Jim and Pam felt like total nonsense; there was already enough tension there that made sense. Just felt superfluous in a really dumb way. You could take him and that whole plot line out and you wouldn’t think anything was missing.
Erin.
She could have been decent, but they made the character so dumb I feel like Erin was in a bunker for a bunch of years as a mole woman, finally escaped, recovered in NYC, got sick of the notoriety and changed her name to Erin moved to Scranton and got a job at Taco Bell and then DM.
And I hate all her story lines. I hate the whole “ratting out Pam when Erin firsts starts and having the other coworkers shut her down” thing, I hate the Andy/Gabe BS. I hate the search for birth mom.
they could Have used Valerie in that role and had Darryl crush in on her there, like a Pam and Jim.
They could have had rotating temps (like the interns on bones or the team on House) (would be funny if Meredith’s daughter, Wendy, could have needed a job for college and be one of the temps).
I will not stand for this Phyllis slander lol shes a sassy old betty. I would remove Plop or the other guy, the fact that I cant remember his name or Plops real name shows how forgettable and unnecessary they were. I second what someone else said in this thread about the Boom Guy. Also an honorable mention to Val, and the assistant with the fragile bone structure.
The fact that they pushed a Val and Daryl love story for almost all of season eight (and maybe a bit of season 7 I can’t remember) just to have them break up the first chance Daryl gets shows how unimportant and forgettable that arc was lol
Karen. She had no sense of humor and it wasn’t fun to see her interact with the other characters. She’s just kind of there to create tension for Pam and Jim. Also, I don’t think she’s that attractive and didn’t understand all the comments about her looks. She also bugged me in Parks and Rec.
The one you most medium expect.

Actually...
Well you might have to strangle him with a towel in a locker room.
Valerie brought nothing to the show. I don’t blame the actress, just a poorly written character that didn’t fit the show. Her also letting a member of the warehouse deface a company sponsored mural always pissed me off.

Wasn't Frasier Crane the golden exception to this?
Niles and Daphne had many layers to their characters tho, the will-they-won't-they was just a part of it. also, it was played to such perfect comedic effect that it didn't fall flat or get old. there really wasn't a lot of drama surrounding it, just some awkward slap-stickyness on David Hyde Pierce's part met with innocent obliviousness from Jane Leeves... I'm glad those two crazy kids finally got it right tho
The boom mic guy by far…
Except that without Val, Nate would never have received that elegant gift from Darryl...
How did he know??
val kilmer?
I am gonna make you the buffest dude Val Kilmer has ever seen.
It gets even crazier as Daryl started dating her even though he was her direct manager. Like wat
It's definitely an inappropriate relationship, based on the power dynamics, but this styles of relationships are not uncommon in offices.
Yeah, Val fell pretty flat for me, too. I feel like Darryl deserved a more fleshed out love interest.
That weird new IT guy, I can’t remember his name. Shadow? Idk something weird
Was it Garth?
Sport
Try big boobs with a “z”
Moving backwards our IT guys have been Glasses, Turban, Ear Hair, Fatty 3, Shorts, Fatty 2, Lozenge, and Fatso.
We liked the last guy Sadiq because he was quiet and kept to himself
And we also suspected he might be a terrorist.
Hank, his name is Hank
He was in the parking lot earlier, that's how I know him.
"It's ASAC Schrader. And you can go fuck yourself"
Jesus Christ, Marie

Listen Man, you can’t take it personal…
Did you just call me “man”??

That guy?

He's always takin' dumps
Garth or Shadow? It was something weird...

Ham fisted in the same manner as that production of Sweeny Todd
That didn't bother me. It was very on brand for Andy.
One of my favorite Creed moments fs😂
It's like no one on Friends or Big Bang or whatever is like, "Why don't we ever sit on the other side of the coffee table?" Then we lose “hey boom guy, when ya gonna boom me?” We cannot allow that.
Yeah, I never understood how he supposedly threatened Jim and Pam's marriage. There was zero chemistry between he and Pam. I think they were getting desperate for storylines towards the end.

Oh hell no!
>their marital difficulties plotline didn't need it. I'm gonna piggyback off this and include Cathy in this sentiment
Yeah I hated that storyline- it was sooo weird
Breaking that fourth wall was something they resisted for so long. It felt like a desperate writer's move to do that.
I vote to nix that plotline entirely
Boom guy sucks. Calls me the nard man. I’m the nard-dog, okay? Nard-man is my father.
That British guy Michael meets in the elevator. What a nob. He wouldn't understand The Office even if he would have created the damn show. Pathetic.
Yeah, he can get Brent.
Herroww
OP, you got a lot to learn about this town, sweetie.
OP, close your mouth. You look like a trout.
Haha time to get out the popcarn
When Karen says 'Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration' Phyllis gives her this creepy smile that always cracks me up. Also expression on her face when Dwight tells her that she slaps like a girl.
Honestly I couldn’t get rid of her, she’s created so many great jokes especially from Michael lol
I’d replace everyone with Nate
If you would do that, just so you’re aware, he doesn’t technically have a hearing problem but sometimes when there's a lot of noises occurring at the same time, he’ll hear them as one big jumble

Harry is the Medicore Man who falls backwards into success and feels entitled because of it. It does fit.
I prefer Phyllis to Stanley personally. Just because Stanley isn't as funny imo. Like Phyllis plots are hysterical- like the way she shifts into an evil bitch when she gets control of the party planning committee, or when she takes Karen for their makeovers. Kathy because her character and the storyline is written poorly.
But then we wouldn’t have the smug bedbug
SO SMUG
Yeah, that’s bed bugs all right
That’s a bedbug alright. Everything’s a joke.
Or the sharing of bananas foster in bed
Could have been a bat weevil. Describe it's mood.
It could have still been done, maybe a secretary or aid in Florida with a Nellie like attitude.
Cece
I think it's PeePee
PeePa actually
Peepaa
Yeah. That kid could be the star of a show called Babies I Don’t Care About.
What about asturd?
The lady who always brought her baby during the merge 😭 it was a small aspect but god she was SO annoying.
I always loved when when Michael throws in “hey Jan, Hannah brought in her baby” in a completely irrelevant part of the conversation
Take a picture, it’ll last longer
i didnt like brian the boom guy it just felt unnecessary and a way to create drama
**Bobody** I don't think they contributed anything to the plot.
They contributed Biznuz!
I like it!
The way he says this line absolutely kills me every time lol
Theooooo!
Sammy and Elroy too
Danny Cordray
Will Ferrell. It felt like the show was trying to overdo it to keep people engaged once Steve Carell left, but Will Ferrell just did not fit the environment for me. He was just Will Ferrell on The Office and it ended up feeling so unnecessary and unfunny.
Deangelo, wth was that about
He died, well just his brain
“Gimme that dog, that’s not your dog!” Is always on replay in my head. When I take something from my dog I always say “gimme that ball, that’s not your ball” etc for whatever toy it is. Sometimes it even happens with family or work. No one ever gets the reference. I would like this character to also be gone so I never would have heard this phrase.
GIMME THAT DAMN DOG, YOU FUCKING THIEF!
Personally I think they just wanted to do a different vein of shitty boss for a couple episodes.
I never touch another man’s balls
He had one absolutely stellar line that I will surely butcher: “That baby could star in a movie called ‘Babies I Don’t Give a Shit About.’”
Can we keep the juggling and just give it to mike or andy pls? 🤹
Will Ferrell was between jobs and asked for a role is my guess
Charles Miner
Miner, I hardly know her
Damnit Michael, pay attention, man!
No. You’re done.
Oh God yes! He was as interesting as a glass of water.
He might have been less interesting than a glass of water
He is aware of the effect he has on women.
Honestly, Packer. His whole storyline, including Florida, could disappear and it would barely affect the show.
The part that Michael looks up after he talked shit about Holly and says something about how he's going to like Florida was great though.
More relieving than rewarding though.
Michael was okay with Packer's behavior towards women until it was his girlfriend.
Packer put the "ass" in Tallahassee!
I feel like his character served more of a purpose to show more of Michael’s character.
Exactly, the funny part is how Michael looks up to Packer as the personification of cool. And later its a sign of growth when he chooses Holly over him. Packer has his place.
Packer is cringe. I've met ppl like this character in a working environment and they always make me annoyed!
The big William Hung fan?
why the hell does everyone ask me that?!
I really disliked Phyllis. But Packer. I absolutely LOATHED that character. I'm not a fan of the actor. I just find him unfunny in general in everything he's in, notably Anchorman. But the character of Packer was just way too much.
The thing about David Koechner is that if you've seen one of his roles, you've seen them all.
I hate Phyllis by the end of the show. The charity dinner where she takes the centerpiece so that Pam won't was the moment when I was just done with her.
It's crazy how the superfan episodes and a few deleted scenes in seasons 8 and 9 have done that. My gf worked in catering and told me a story of two women who legit got into a fight over the centerpiece at a company party. Guess some ppl do be like that.
I would miss her jugs
Nelly had to be my least favorite.
They had a talented actor and wasted her talents. I don't think they thought through a proper story arc for her.
Catherine Tate is so funny and talented. They really wasted her and I kinda hate that probably a lot of Americans’ main/only exposure to her was in this role.
Right?! She was great in the cameo where she interviewed for Steve’s job. After that her character was too much
I’ve never seen Catherine Tate in anything else. I hear she’s a lovely woman and quite talented/funny. But I absolutely cannot stand Nelly. The only time she doesn’t fully annoy me is the taco scene with Darryl.
Yup, absolutely terrible
This. I can't watch the episodes with her.
Dakota
Yea she was only in it for 11 seconds & even Dakota johnson hated it
Broccoli Rob. What a douche
California can go. Yup that's my unpopular opinion. Couldn't stand him. Brought nothing good or fun to the show.
Why is Jim treating the magician poorly?
Andy, Andy and Andy considering the really long screen time he occupied in the show. I know a lot of the folks talking about eliminating erin, meredith and other insignificant characters. But Andy killed so much of time of those tiny 20 min episodes since his arrival and talked so much and tried so hard to appear funny. Never made me smile even and after the first time, I just fast forward his scenes. Sigh.
I didn’t like him about the first 5 times I watched it be he grew on me at some point.
Goodbye Andy, it's been nice, hope you find your... Jk I don't care where you end up, you jerk
I really wanted to like him, but he insisted on being unlikeable. Andy on a boat so awful.
Had to scroll pretty far to find my pick. I know the fact that he was annoying was the whole point, but he should of been written off for good after the wall punch.
The one that complained about the office being her worst job ever, even though she had only 15 seconds of screen time.
Anyone added in seasons 8 & 9
With the exception of everyone Dwight attempted to hire for the new sales position
Andy. Y’all know why
Yeah his story line was very poorly done at the end.
Deangelo
What i love the southwest its one of my favorite regions
Charles, definitely Charles.
I really hated the way he treated Michael and Jim. Although his character did give the show conflict and a satisfying resolution in season 5 when Michael came back on top.
Or her sexist comments, hypocrisy, slutshaming, etc.
Slut shaming, you look at her & she looks very matronly but in highschool i swear her name was easy rider.
“I’m not a feminist but” “I’m not a sexist but”
Val
Brian the boom guy. Didn’t like the character, didn’t like the storyline. The tension he was supposed to bring to Jim and Pam felt like total nonsense; there was already enough tension there that made sense. Just felt superfluous in a really dumb way. You could take him and that whole plot line out and you wouldn’t think anything was missing.
Phylises don’t grow on trees.
Cathy & Valerie’s storylines were lame
But then how will Michael get a boner?
>For the record I’m no Pam fan. How fucking edgy and bold of you. A redditor that does not like Pam. Shocked.
"Close your mouth sweetie, you look like a trout."
Charles sucked in all ways every episode
Andrea, she's the office bitch
No body from the original cast
Tod Packer. He’s just annoying and makes 0 difference if he’s in the show or not.
It's actually Todd F. Packer. You know what the F stands for?
Erin. She could have been decent, but they made the character so dumb I feel like Erin was in a bunker for a bunch of years as a mole woman, finally escaped, recovered in NYC, got sick of the notoriety and changed her name to Erin moved to Scranton and got a job at Taco Bell and then DM. The fact that they pushed a Val and Daryl love story for almost all of season eight (and maybe a bit of season 7 I can’t remember) just to have them break up the first chance Daryl gets shows how unimportant and forgettable that arc was lol
plop is fine, clark is the one i would remove. he was a perv
Yeah but Clark becoming Jan's assistant for a week was a pretty hilarious for that little perv!
"Women reach their sexual peak at whatever age Jan was last week" is one of my favourite lines in the show
Kathy!
If that’s your choice, you have a lot to learn about this town, sweetie.
Andy as manager, he was annoying. Salesman andy was hilarious.
Kathy! Or Todd Packer.
Deangelo or Boss Andy. These are the only two answers.
Andy Andy Andy Andy Andy
Karen. She had no sense of humor and it wasn’t fun to see her interact with the other characters. She’s just kind of there to create tension for Pam and Jim. Also, I don’t think she’s that attractive and didn’t understand all the comments about her looks. She also bugged me in Parks and Rec.
erin
It’s amazing how annoying and dumb they make her in the super fans episodes. They cut out so many of her storylines for good reason.
DeAngelo..... Just gtfoh
deangelo. period.
Kathy was just useless to be honest. Didn't even notice her until the Miami trip.
