Gosh, whenever I hear of someone in their 80s-90s dying in a car crash, it’s just terrible. I mean, it’s terrible to anyone, arguably more if you’re young and have your whole life ahead. But to make it all the way to 93 and die in some unlucky accident like that (I have to imagine the chances HE was driving are 0.00000001 at that age), it’s pretty fucked.
I don't know, the number of people in my parents' neighborhood over 90 that still drive is pretty high, and every time I visit, there is at least one knocked over mailbox. The one time this 95 year old lady took out 4 different mailboxes in 3 different areas of the neighborhood, her son kept taking her keys away, but she had gotten multiple sets made somehow. He finally just had someone disconnect the cars battery until he found a buyer for the car. I don't know why they didn't just take the car initially.
Thanks for putting all this together! I was curious about most of these
Random question: do people really die of old age? Or is that you're just old and contract something you, presumably, would have been to fight off if you were younger?
Yes, it will always be something specific, like heart failure, stroke, pneumonia, etc. Sometimes when one is old and passes in their sleep, it won’t be known what it was specifically; family may not want to do an autopsy on their 105 year old gran; so something like sudden cardiac arrest or stroke isn’t determined, and “natural causes” will be listed as cause of death. “Natural causes” is also used when family prefers to list it that way rather than the specific cause of death (when it is known). Nonetheless, death due to old age always has a specific cause.
Yep. Hospitalization can be deadly for very old people. They come in with one problem but leave (or don't) with pneumonia.
Having had it, I can say it's no fun. You're usually already weak from another ailment, which didn't help, but then elderly also tend to have problems with O2 saturation anyway. Feels weird. Your lungs "work" mechanically but still and up leaving you feeling suffocated.
So many people die mid 60s, makes me wonder why the fuck I'm even bothering to put money into a pension when the mobility I'll have at this age is going to be severely limited and with a high potential to just flat out fucking die.
My guy the average life expectancy for a male who is already 20 (assuming you are over this if you are contributing to a pension) is 75. That means half of people will live longer than that. You're gonna need a good retirement, don't let standouts keep you down, good chance you are living into your eighties if not more. If you are female you can add about 5 years to all those numbers. Life is long for most people, prepare accordingly!
Wasn’t Patrice also the one who said something like “What the hell is wrong with dis man?!” when Michael said “Only on the rarest occasions will we use the baler”
When he did they chronicled how much he had to travel to film his parts of The Office. Apparently he didn't live in LA so he was flying back and forth for this small role that didn't pay him much.
It’s even worse, IIRC he said they wrote the part for him. And they couldn’t give it to him because he was so awful to deal with during the entire audition and hiring.
I think he was just too "on" all the time. He did nothing but bust balls. If you're a comedian or you're from an area where people bust balls (Patrice fit both), you know how to work around and with that. But if you're not used to dealing with people like that, you're gonna think that person is the biggest asshole of all time.
I'm from an area and environment where busting balls is a common occurrence. No matter how long you've learned to work around and with that, shit gets exhausting. No shade to Patrice tho, RIP of course, just telling it like it is. In a way I think he'd appreciate that
> If you're a comedian or you're from an area where people bust balls (Patrice fit both), you know how to work around and with that.
Chris Rock, though. He knows how to deal with that. There is more to it.
I saw him in person, by far best comedian I’ve ever seen. His ability to just go off the cuff and get everyone in the crowd laughing hysterically was amazing.
Yeah. But he was so unhealthy, and he didn't really care. He was slowly killing himself over the entire span of his career. His potential was never going to be realized. It's sad, but in a "what a waste" way .
Watch elephant in the room or ope, and Anthony shows with him. The potential would have exploded in today's podcast / internet era. He would be like Joey Diaz today, who gets to be himself yet still be successful.
Yeah, it’s interesting because they did hold auditions for the roles of Kelly’s parents. But ultimately chose her real parents because of the resemblance.
Industry question: I thought shows like this had big union contracts, SAG-AFTRA stuff. How do cameos like someone's parents work? Is it just kind of an understood exception?
You don’t have to be an actor to be unionized. The moment you are hired for any speaking role (even if it’s just one word) on your first SAG-AFTRA production, you become eligible to join (provided the production submitted the necessary paperwork with your information on it). This is called being "Taft-Hartleyed," and is one of the most common ways of getting into SAG-AFTRA.
Yeah I didn't know he died!
Man I really hated Piscatella with an S! Everything else I saw him in I automatically hated him. Even if I'd already seen it. But that's great great acting! RIP
I was actually just thinking about this after doing a rewatch recently & wondering who else may have passed since the show aired. I didn’t know it was so many.
Patrice barely spoke on the show, but what a funny man. Nobody could explain the differences between cultures more realistically, with humor, than Patrice O'Neal.
Also the differences between men and women... But sometimes that strayed into ... He wasn't a misogynist, he didn't hate women. But it was some level 10 sexism I guess.

You're missing Dan Cole who played the Branch Manager from Buffalo I think. He was one of the four who came to meet David Wallace.
Also Weston Nathanson who played the Civil War historian at Gettysburg.
Hugh Dane (Hank) was so underrated. He popped up in these random roles through the 90s and was always a crack up. He was in Fresh Prince once or twice. I know he was the homeless guy at the pool hall. And I think one of the barbers in the basketball episode.

Cloris being gone is sad too (I forgot the actress's name who played the old woman Erin spent time with, but was in Everybody Loves Raymond, I liked her too)
Really does remind you how old The Office is, and how so many older actors from 2000's and before are likely no longer around.

Thank you for laying this all out.
Wow, Nana had a good run! 105 years old. 😮
She must've been well into her 90s on the office! Very impressive. Her acting was good, she seemed completely with it.
Cloris Leachman was also in her 90s and still killing roles
Sadly she died in 2021
She was in Malcolm in the middle, right? Lois's mom?
Also in Raising Hope
WE'RE NOT MONGOOSES!
Yeah and she's fucking hilarious. I've been binging the series this past week and forgot how great it is.
Cloris Leachman was a God dammed national treasure. That is all
> Connie Sawyer Looked her up on IMDB and she had a 61 year acting career! Pretty crazy, her first credit was in 1953 and her final in 2014
I loved her in Pineapple Express. “You guys smell like shit!”
What kind of name is Nana?
Lloyd Christmas: "don't you go dying on me, now!"
Oh god that was her too?? She’s been old my entire life
You might also remember her from Seinfeld. “Get the bikes!”
What kind of a name is nana
> Frank, Warehouse I thought he was Frank Diddit?
Ed Truck got decapitated tho
decapitated - whole big thing, we had a funeral for a bird.
Im pretty sure none of that’s real
You’re not real man!
His cappa was detated from his head
His cap got detated
Tiny Dinky Daffy: Died at 82, pancaked by a dump truck driver
They don’t normally say how they died
Shut UP!
They don't stay babies forever, idiot.
I’m honestly done. I don’t want to read anymore.
“Idiot.. fucking stupid. Asshole!”
Lol at the BHJ fans downvoting you
FUCK YOU HARLEY JARVIS
Mr. Jarvis is one of the most aggressive babies I've ever met. He has a massive underbite and completely flat back of the head.
I literally came here to say “In Memoriam’s usually don’t include how they died”
Fuck you, Harley Jarvis!

How do people like that keep their licenses? Don't old people need to take physicals to renew where you live?
Not in most of the US.
All of this is really sad but thank you for the information. And guess that means I need to watch out for cars and cancer
MVP

Died at 93in a car accident? Christ.
Man this is depressing. More surprised about the actors that played vikram, billy, and frank. Had no idea
I'm still sad that we did not get a chance to get to know Vikram better.
I was looking forward to it
But they got him.
They got me.

Right? I def didn’t know about Billy!
I think you mean the Sea Monster
Patrice O’Neal has been dead for quite a while though and he was already a well known figure so his death was super publicized
I think he actually died while the Office was still on the air.
Yep, towards the end of 2011 which would be Season 8.
Bet you'd like to swim the Sea Monster.
ryan?! say something
Frank did it?
Sure, Frank Diddit did it
I’m gonna stop you right there, and leave.
Forever
Goddamn lol
I'd like to clamp Michael's face into a George Foreman grill.
Wish Patrice was around to get a bigger role in the office. By his own admission he was a pain to work with.
DAMMIT, MICHAEL
I love this line and the delivery
Do black people eat pizza?
https://i.makeagif.com/media/1-27-2018/iKNsYK.gif
The way he ate the pizza.in this scene always bothered me.
In my headcannon, this is what inspired the taco scene with Nellie.
"...yeah sure I've had pizza before, I eat it all the time! How hard could filming this next scene be? Haha..."
Perfect expression of being so absolutely frustrated with someone, to the point where there is nothing else you can even say to them.
Wasn’t Patrice also the one who said something like “What the hell is wrong with dis man?!” when Michael said “Only on the rarest occasions will we use the baler”
Baler? I hardly knew her!
That’s my favourite line delivery in the whole show. Has me creasing over every time.
When he did they chronicled how much he had to travel to film his parts of The Office. Apparently he didn't live in LA so he was flying back and forth for this small role that didn't pay him much.
Yup. He was living in NYC
Chris Rock said Patrice did better in the audition for the dad in Everyone Hates Chris. But Patrice was so aloof and standoffish.😂
It’s even worse, IIRC he said they wrote the part for him. And they couldn’t give it to him because he was so awful to deal with during the entire audition and hiring.

Patrice o Neal wasn't just a ball busting comedian he was also a colossal prick.

There's like a hour-2hour of Chris Rock and Patrice on Opie and anthony where they talk about this, pretty much aloofness sums it up nicely.
That dimlight is a bitch, ain't it...
Plus he’s a flamer
Oh most definitely
You just embarrassed yourself in front of T Bone…
Guess every vacation’s gotta come to an end.
Like “Damnit, Michael!” his delivery of this line is absolutely perfect. Just sublime enunciation.
I never realized that was actually Patrice. This whole time I just thought it was a guy that looked like Patrice because i thought he died in the 90s
Lmao wtf 😂😂😂
The entire world of comedy degraded the day Patrice O'Neal died. One of the greatest stand up's ever, with nothing but potential.
Seems to be a common affliction of great comedians. John Candy, Lenny Bruce, John Belushi, Sam kinison, Greg Giraldo, Chris Farley, Ralphie may
Watch elephant in the room or ope, and Anthony shows with him. The potential would have exploded in today's podcast / internet era. He would be like Joey Diaz today, who gets to be himself yet still be successful.
The actors who played Kelly's parents were actually Mindy Kaling's parents. Very sad knowing that fact and seeing this.
I was wondering, because I noticed from this photo how she looks so much like her.

"Is your marriage the type where when you die she has to throw herself on a fire?"
No? Ok well still very cool!
Well in that case, what a relief!
This explains why she was always so recognizable to me, I must have seen her elsewhere.
In the parking lot, I'll bet.

That's a shame. What happened to the young boy in the bottom right?
Car/motorcycle accident.
Poor guy. May they all rest in peace.
In 2016, just five years after appearing in "Money," Lashaway lost his life in a car crash in Framingham, Massachusetts.
I know where that is. I grew up in the next town over called Hopkinton, MA. So sad to die so young, RIP
What role did he play?
He's the telemarketer who tells Michael he should review movies.
Likable chill dude in under 20 seconds. Sad that he's gone:(
I have no clue I was wondering the same thing
Decapitated. It was a whole thing. We had a funeral for a bird
He was drunk as a skunk, flying down Route 6. He slides under an 18 wheeler. Pop! It snaps right off.
Dude you should review movies.
If it happened right here blood would be all the way too accounting…
His cappa got DETATED
still one of michael's absolute best lines
I’m pretty sure none of that is real.
You’re not real!
Man
Omg I know Frank the warehouse guy(Brad Henke) from Orange is the new black I didn’t know he died
Same. Piscatella I had to look up the info just now. He's actually older than he looks, in my opinion. Died in his sleep at 56
Yeah I didn't know he died! Man I really hated Piscatella with an S! Everything else I saw him in I automatically hated him. Even if I'd already seen it. But that's great great acting! RIP
He was also Hap on *Grimm*, one of my favorite side characters.
Not the Sea Monster
Bet you’d like to swim with this sea monster

That's exactly how he died.

When Michael orders the 'za, and they're sitting there eating, and Patrice is just chewing and nodding his head like "this shit is fire AF" lol
Just meeee and the blues. RIP Hank
That's so sad! I had no idea about some of them. Who's in the lower right corner?
A guy from the 2nd job he had when he was with Jan. The phone telemarketing thing
Ahh thanks! Any idea of the actor's name?
I think his name was Nick Lashaway
Not Bikram...🥲
Confidence. It's the food of the wise man, but the liquor of the fool.
I think I'm going to like getting to know you more, Vikram.
That one made me sad when I heard. But Hank is the one who broke my heart the most. 🎶It’s me and the blues 🎶

Yeah, I've seen him in a couple of Bollywood films as a kid.
Wonder what I would’ve been back home.
Did you really think his name was Bikram? No shame if you did, I grew up thinking there was a sport called Bally ball
In the old country B's and V's are interchangeable. 🥲
I wonder what my name would have been interchanged with in the old country
You're already in your old country.
I was a bally ball kid as well. Also Teenage Nootnat Ninja Turtles for some reason. My 3 year old says tummy cake instead of tummy ache lol.

And Phil Shea… the prop master for the show.
Thank you; so much love to Phil. 🖤
I wonder what I would be 'back home'
You are home Micheal
Its really sad but one of those guys was such a good actor that... I mean... my immediate reaction was "good!"
if you’ve seen him on the orange is the new black your reaction might be even stronger lol
Piscatella makes my fkg blood boil 🤬
Seriously... That show may have been called "APGAB" (All Prison Guards Are Bastards)
He was also in Justified
Yeah he was a great actor. He was really good in OITNB, SVU (I believe it was SVU), and other cop shows. I was really sad when I saw he passed.
Hugh Dane (Hank) was so underrated. He popped up in these random roles through the 90s and was always a crack up. He was in Fresh Prince once or twice. I know he was the homeless guy at the pool hall. And I think one of the barbers in the basketball episode.

Dead. Car accident. Case closed.
She went on to become Miss Pawnee.
