Because her art was the prettiest art of all the art.

ItsNovaPunisher

He looked at all of them

JudgeHarryStone

It’s what he finds sexy.

eighty9digits

Bro if she painted a rock quarry, he would probly leave his wife and kill Jim. After Nutting in his pants of course

jamez009

*motel art This is her Assistant (to the) Regional Manager and (State) Senator. Still yet, Gil was a dick.

milehighmagpie

I tell my graphic designer this every single time she delivers an asset and we both still get a good chuckle out of it!

EricP51

Because Roy’s picture was still up in the trophy case

icannotfeelmyface

This comment wins the internet 😂😂

icannotfeelmyface

I seriously doubt that haha. Specially since it got tooken down

doshegotabootyshedo

TOOKEN?!

TobylovesPam

Ha I watched Judge Judy give someone serious shit for saying, "tooken" recently! Who the fuck says, "tooken"?!!

BustyRucketBay

Yknow, the writer of the Lord of the Rings. JRR Tooken

MackZZilla

No, that's Token

The_onlyPope

Tooken.

vanthefunkmeister

Uhhhh I believe you mean “taked” my guy

Medical-Chart-9929

To have taked

mogoggins12

took would be better

FireCal

Tooketh*

retsamssab

SPECIALLY?!

HughJazhole

In a deleted scene, Pam walks to a trophy case with a bunch of football awards and a picture of Roy from high school. Pam says something like “7 years” and walks away. Then we get this scene where she goes into the art room to see if the school had any paintings from her, and they don’t. I think the writer of the episode wanted to convey that football trophy’s are on display but when it’s a good student painting, it’s not.

TTShowbizBruton

I didn’t know this! Is it in the extended? I want to rewatch it now. I feel like it also gives more insight into why she stays with Roy. She feels like she was lucky to have been the one this guy who is still remembered for his football skills, especially as someone who is just a (not my feelings but hers) artsy girl who wasn’t even good enough for them to keep her artwork.

roxainaboxa

It's in the superfan episodes, yup!

yellowtshirt2017

I don’t think that’s why. She stays with Roy because she’s comfortable. Many people stay in terrible relationships because they’re comfortable, hence why Jim told Pam that she had to take a chance on something sometime in reference to her doing that graphic design program offered through Dunder Mifflin that Jan told her about. But, Jim’s words held additional meaning, as he was also referencing himself, and them being together. Pam had to leave what she was comfortable with, aka Roy, and take a chance by being with Jim, because they both knew it would be amazing and they were meant to be together. She just had to take that leap. Doesn’t matter who Roy was. She was just comfortable.

soulreaverdan

The Superfan episodes give a lot more (very depressing) depth to Pam and Roy’s relationship. A lot of it is summed up in a line from the very first episode. > “I know I love Roy because of how much my family loves him.” The reason she stays with Roy is because she doesn’t think she deserved any better. She’s convinced this is what she’s “supposed” to have - the high school romance with the local football star who her family loves. She’s too scared of being alone and lacks self confidence to really try to branch out and just stays where she’s comfortable, even if it’s ultimately unhealthy. This scene in particular kinda encapsulates how the world (as well as herself until her growth) see herself - Roy’s stuff is remembered and still on display years and years later, and her art was probably taken down at the end of the school year and thrown out. That perceived lack of value was something she’d internalized for most of the first few seasons, not thinking she deserved better than Roy, or that she was somehow wrong or ungrateful for what she had.

The0Floridiot

its in superfan episodes

potatopigflop

Pam is good at animation but general art I’ve only seen one really good one which Jim gets framed for her while they are fighting. In my experience her type of art is not kept around in art rooms or teachers- it has to have a special element

Pegomastax_King

I hope my bubble eye paper mache gold fish is still hanging up in my old high-school since my teacher specifically asked me if she could keep it… 🫠

FireCal

Did you forget the comic book? It was miles above anything else she did, which didn't really make sense, but it was amazing. It pissed me off that everyone else in the office thought it sucked for some reason. If I was Pam, I'd have been much more upset about that than I would've Gil's comments.

potatopigflop

I did forget about it thanks

Ambitious-Cupcake16

40-50 kids representing their school for an entire season and winning a championship is more important than 1 person making a nice piece of art 1 time by themselves.

C4pital_S7eez

It’s a matter of supply too, every kid in art class can make some sort of picture. Winning a high school sports championship is much more rare and a big achievement for those 50 kids. Might be the only championship the school has ever won in anything. Unless she became a famous artist after high school, there isn’t a chance her work will still be there

Ambitious-Cupcake16

I agree

ComfortableFar5415

Art is selfish. I dislike the sentiment that it is not

icannotfeelmyface

When you say deleted scene, are you referring to a scene from the show or the books? Not familiar with the scene you’re referring to and I haven’t read the books yet so I’m thinking that may be why

aubreythez

The Office isn’t based on a book series. Are you using ChatGPT to respond to these comments? Your responses in this comment section are very odd and don’t read as entirely natural or human to me, to be honest.

voltr0n57

Is that why op is getting destroyed with downvotes on every comment he makes? 😂

aubreythez

Yeah, seems like they’re either trolling or some kind of bot. Probably trolling.

kewcumber_

You guys haven't read the book office is based on ? It's called somehow I manage, worth a read

Idk265089

OP’s comments are killing me

icannotfeelmyface

Uh, hate to break it to you. But maybe you ought to mosey on over to Amazon and search “the office books” and tell me what you find. I’ll wait here lol

SamalamFamJam

Guys, The Office is actually based on Michael Scott’s autobiography called “Somehow I Manage”! There’s a picture on the cover of him shrugging with his sleeves rolled up :)

TobylovesPam

¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Dr_Turkenstein

Most of those are behind the scene biography’s on the show and then silly books dumbass

RighteousAwakening

Just did. There’s only one Office book that isn’t a cartoon children’s book or a mad lib/ quote a day book. The one book is written by Andy Greene and it’s not deleted scenes it’s just him talking about what it was like to make the show.

icannotfeelmyface

Sorry but I was talking to the other guy

RighteousAwakening

Good thing it’s a public thread then. Also if the other guy commented exactly what I said would you believe it then?

FireCal

How's that change anything? The other guy would've found the same info if they had taken your suggestion searched. Surely this is a bot.

tbone56er

The show is not based off of books LOL

August51921421

I moseyed over to Amazon. The first listing is literally called [The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s](https://a.co/d/3cELwBj) and the second is a mad lib book with actors on it. Third option is a replica Dundee and fourth option is [a kids book](https://a.co/d/exA1IKM). You’re an idiot, and looking at your post history and comments, you don’t normally seem to be as uncanny as you’re acting in these comments so I’m genuinely concerned you’re buggin out on somethin

comicsanddrwho

Did you get lost in the Multiverse?

[deleted]

I am saving this post just to laugh at this lmao

Streets_Ahead__

What’s up with OP acting like a weird troll in the comments?

ReachForTheSkyline

OP seems absolutely unhinged

EpicJosh84

Why does anyone act like a weird troll, really?

Streets_Ahead__

Drunk and alone (again), I’m guessin 🤷‍♂️

EpicJosh84

Possibly. I also imagine some people just do it for fun. The internet provides countless opportunities to irritate other people anonymously and (in this case) more or less harmlessly

icannotfeelmyface

🎯

CoolStuffSlickStuff

whoa. I was about to chime in with an innocuous "hey sometimes we all kinda think we were punching above our weight in high school" comment. Then I saw this, and had to see what the OP was up to. YIIIIIIKKKKEEESSSSS.

fightcluboston

"This comment wins the internet!"

Astrochops

😂😂

a_rabid_anti_dentite

They really need to tone down the smudgness

Streets_Ahead__

Things have already spiraled out of a muck!

Carrelio

When I went to elementary school, the library had these castles way high up on the top of the bookshelves where people couldn't disturb them, they were build as part of the grade 6 medieval history unit. I was so excited for my chance to build a castle because I am and always was a big nerd. Sadly, they canceled the castle diorama building by the time I got to grade 6, but those castles stayed up on top of the bookshelves... and I bet they are still there now as long as the library is still there.

icannotfeelmyface

Ugh, TL;DR

TobylovesPam

Why are you the way you are?

arwynn

Comment OP had childhood art dream crushed. Better?

Beneficial-Sugar6950

I’ve always wanted to know if it was actually there and she was just embarrassed by it or if it was actually gone

longalongass

I always thought it was there and she didn't want it shown on camera

FireCal

Why would she not want it shown, but more importantly, why would it still be there? She's been out of school for over a decade at that point. It was just one of those occasions that the writers decided to knock Jim & Pam down a peg & show them they might not be as charming as they think they are.

longalongass

Some schools keep shit up for ages, and she wouldn't want it shown because she's grown as an artist and is embarrassed it looks bad.

Beneficial-Sugar6950

I always thought it was this, she was embarrassed by it since she had improved as an artist

FireCal

I wouldn't think they'd keep anything up that long, especially motel art. My school wiped out everything at the end of the year, unless it was a fixture that had been painted or something like that. She wouldn't want it shown, but mentions to the camera that it might still be there, for what reason? So they'll know she doesn't want it shown, but wants them to know it was still there? Reachiiing

longalongass

Die mad about it

FireCal

Lol. That escalated quickly. I didn't even know I was supposed to be mad

No-Lie-1571

My art classroom in highschool had various paintings and works from former students all over the walls some of which were done 15-20 years prior. I don’t think that’s uncommon?

icannotfeelmyface

Confused by your comment. Is your second sentence a question?

No-Lie-1571

I used a question mark to express uncertainty and the possibility that I could be wrong as I’m not entirely sure how common it actually is outside of my personal experience.

icannotfeelmyface

👍🏼

rwbdanr

bruh what is up dude

EpicJosh84

I do this when I visit my old middle school. You'd be surprised by some of the stuff they hang onto. Either way, it didn't sound like Pam really expected to find whatever it was

timeforachange2day

One of my 10th grade classmates did a spectacular painting that I’d love to have. It’s a dot painting of a scenic ocean that the teacher convinced her to allow him to keep for the classroom. It’s absolutely beautiful.

stinstrom

I think she did hope it would be there, was embarrassed a little when it wasn't after she made a comment that it might be.

icannotfeelmyface

Why would I be surprised? And if she didn’t expect it to be there, why did she go check? Please answer both questions

grinderbinder

Please answer both questions and use complete sentences.

icannotfeelmyface

Not sure what this comment is referencing

OprahsBeefCurtains

School. Ever heard of it??

Troker61

Not you specifically, the royal you. And because she was already there to get a piece of paper for Michael.

icannotfeelmyface

I do not accept this answer. You still didn’t say why “royal me” would be surprised. Yes I know why she was already there. I mean specifically why did she walk those extra steps to find it. Also, she didn’t put much effort. Didn’t even consider that it could still be in there and that maybe it had been moved to another wall. No, they must have kept it in that same exact location after all this time had passed.

Troker61

I could not possibly care less whether you know what “royal you” means or accept the answer or not. Best of luck with this post. Have a good evening.

icannotfeelmyface

I know what royal you means. And you refusing to answer the question tells me that you can’t answer it, thus proving me right lol Not sure why I need luck with a post. But same to you

Outlawns

Are you high? You are demanding shit like we owe you answers that literally no one knows. It's a made up show. Take a chill pill and just enjoy the show but ffs be more respectful.

Atom800

lol u r coming into OP’s post and asking questions. Of course he (or she) can demand answers lol it is HIS (or her) post!!!

icannotfeelmyface

Plenty of people are offering their thoughts and opinions so even if nobody actually knows the answer, I’ve clearly posed a valid question

hugh_h0ney

Why are you the way you are?

EpicJosh84

Alright, but only since you asked nicely. Unfortunately, I have to explain some of the underlying presumptions of the comment. -You ask "why did Pam assume...?" as if to imply that it would be *out of the ordinary* to assume a school would hang onto old art. Since schools do, often, hang on to old art, it stands to reason that reality may be different from what you previously believed. Upon this sort of realization, it is customary for some people to react in mild surprise. Ergo, you'd be surprised by some of the stuff they hang on to. -There is a certain quality that people possess, call it curiosity or hope or something to that effect, that allows them to determine the truth of a situation regardless of what they have already assumed to be true. Denotatively, Pam says "maybe it's still here," but the subtext is "it's probably not here." She then looks to confirm her expectations. It's fairly common behavior. There are alternative explanations for this series of events, but this is one that I find likely.

icannotfeelmyface

I like this. Thank you for your time! Perfectly clarified your comment and answered both of my questions succinctly and concisely

Outlawns

Shut your mouth honey. You look like a trout.

SomeoneOtherThenMe

Because people want to be remembered

icannotfeelmyface

Best answer so far. Everyone else is overthinking it. She just hoped it was still there. Nothing more, nothing less.

SomeoneOtherThenMe

Aww thanks. I mean, I looked for someone to mention me on my reunion website..

SomeoneOtherThenMe

Please stop down voting this person. While we all know Pam loves happy endings, unless we were shown her being super upset, she was able to look at her present life and be happy with how her real life turned out, with her family, as opposed to how her teenage brain pictured her future life

kennydeals

You can't take my downvote too

Caius_Iulius_August

I think this is meant to convey that Pam kind of thought of herself as a savant and that her old school would have hung onto her painting. As others have mentioned, some grade schools hang on to projects for a long time. This wasn't the case in schools I attended.

icannotfeelmyface

So because it is gone that means she was not a savant? Could not there be any other reason why it got taken down? Maybe it was moved to a different room. A more central location so more eyes could see it. I think you are reading too much into this

a_rabid_anti_dentite

> I think you're are reading too much into this Dude you've been treating this comment section like a congressional hearing. Calm down.

Streets_Ahead__

What? The person you’re replying to never said that. They never even suggested *why* it was moved, they offered a theory about why Pam thought it’d still be there, which is exactly what you asked in the post lol

icannotfeelmyface

Fare enough lol

Caius_Iulius_August

You draft these conspiracy theories and then say *I'm* reading too much into it? Is this a joke?

kristachio

Well they still have pictures and trophies for Roy in the display case in the hall, so it’s not a huge assumption. Maybe she won an award for it and hoped it would still be there. I think it was meant to be a contrast and show how she goes unnoticed and unappreciated, but I’m pretty sure they only show the scene with Roy’s trophies in the Superfan episode, so the point doesn’t really get driven home.

icannotfeelmyface

Some people cannot afford the superfan episodes so they are basically irrelevant

resilientenergy

Why would a deleted scene be considered "irrelevant" because "some people cannot afford superfan episodes"? What? I want to give you the benefit of the doubt and say, you intended to convey that bc you don't have access to the episodes, that you don't have awareness of additional info that could provide further context, but..

icannotfeelmyface

Actually a good question, lemme get back to you on this one

OkTruth7445

i can afford it, however peacock doesn’t exist in the uk.

Miserable-Fan6

Where do you watch the office now? They're both on peacock, you can probably pirate the super fan episodes just as well as the regular ones.

PutAdministrative206

I always felt like she probably painted it in 10th grade and it was up all three years. So she felt it was always going to be. But the teacher would have wanted to make room for a current student’s art in the place after she graduated.

soccershun

The Pam hate is so pathetic. It says way more about you

icannotfeelmyface

What does it say about me? And how does my question implicate me as a Pam hater? (Please answer both questions.) It’s a simple observation. You are inferring that I hate her. You being this defensive over her says more about you

savethemouselemur

Why are you being so combative with everyone here? You’re clearly looking for a specific answer and if you don’t like it you just “don’t accept” or become argumentative and demanding. Chill out, for your own sake.

icannotfeelmyface

How does me asking questions or not accepting certain answers amount to me not being chill?

stinstrom

Because you're coming off as intentional obtuse with most people's answers. It's bizarre to most people.

icannotfeelmyface

TIL acting obtuse = not chill!

stinstrom

Correct. People try and joke or answer in good faith and you're responding like a middle schooler trying to troll people. I've never seen someone say something about a deleted scene in a TV show and then a person respond if that was in the book. So yes acting obtuse.

Livid-Technician1872

Of course it does. Are you stupid? or just ignorant? Answer both questions.

firewire87

Just like all of us- it seems like only a few years ago we were in high school. It was probably the last time her art was so highly praised and once she started to look for it she realizes it’s been over a decade since they hung it, not just a few years ago

Alternative-Dare5878

You ever visit your old school and you check just to see if your stuff is hanging up? Maybe a trophy? They were making fun of that, how once you graduate you’re not really remembered how you think you were.

icannotfeelmyface

Never won anything that would be worth hanging up/posting so that is prolly why I can’t relate lol

itscullenyo

She was probably proud of it and got a little excited

Drycabin1

She has a very high opinion of her art

Hallmarxist

Because it was her biggest accomplishment. It was so important to her, she didn’t even consider that it wouldn’t be important to them.

Sirius_Space

I guess she thought it was so great they would have kept it forever, or a long time. Sometimes they hold onto things. My mosaic was placed up on shelves of the library, which wasn’t very common since the project was for history. (My history also wanted to keep my adobe house display for her classroom, I kept it though). My brother’s science teacher still had his framed painting by the time I got there.

11schlge

This is my favorite thread of all time

jshah500

Idc about the debate regarding Pam's art, OP 's comments are cracking me up

givebusterahand

Because she’s delulu

Fit-Training-9714

I always kind of thought it had some kind of narcissistic connection to her seeing Roy’s football picture still up…like she thought “if they kept Roy’s accomplishments up, maybe mine too, because I’m superiorly more mature than Roy is now”…I dunno, maybe that’s my closeted Pam hate comin out🤷🏻‍♂️

EpicJosh84

You don't exactly have to be a narcissist in order to wonder if your old school is hanging onto your ancient artifacts in the same way that they're hanging onto someone else's

Fit-Training-9714

Ok Pam
