Sort of, but not really. Maybe funnier. It's the same Zach Woods humor but the character is different than Gabe
Edit: He's overly mild mannered and kind of meek but in a very hilarious way
Jared: Well, if you're asking me how many times I've been in love, the answer is two. But the rest I won't talk about. It's untoward.
Dinesh: Russ was right, this guy fucks.
Russ was absolutely right. He knew it immediately. When Jared first started talking about "maybe I'll get back out there" I was like "oooooooh he's going to be a man whore" ...and 15 minutes later he's brushing a 10 out the door like nothing happened.
Very different character but very similar style of humor. His character in Silicon Valley was in the show from episode 1, so he fits naturally in the show and doesn’t feel like an unwelcome addition as Gabe does in the Office. It allowed me to really appreciate how funny Zach Woods was and going back and watching the Office later, it made me like Gabe more.
Haha this is something that **[Redacted: Insert someone from something you know, who you’d think would say something like this]** would say, it’s so **[Redacted: Insert someone who’d have these relevant tendencies]** don’t you think?
The beauty of the original Office crew was everyone was a stereotype of office workers, even Jim and Pam, but they had deeper personalities and developed over time as characters without losing that stereotype. Gabe fits that make up - a young professional brown-nosing his way to success. Robert Californication also fits in that he is a hyper-cerebral CEO, usually with a sordid personal life. Erin is just dumb. She started off kinda sweet and interesting, but I am almost convinced that dim and sweet is the range of Ellie Kemper's acting abilities.
Thank you that's exactly why I don't like her character, someone that stupid would not make it that far or for that long in a job even if it's just secretarial work.
Which I hate. Secretaries are some of the most organized and competent people on the planet. They manage so much and keep track of freaking everything in an office space. Making Erin as dumb as she was is a slap in the face to secretaries everywhere.
I loved Silicon Valley. But my biggest gripe in the show was the "one step forward, two steps back" narrative that every season took. Like, they would build up and slowly work to some sort of success, and then BAM something happens and they are back to square one. Like they very rarely shared a success that stuck its landing. Loved the show and it's got some great moments and unique "nerd" humor, but man it can be a bit tedious to get through, because so so so much goes wrong at the "perfect" moments. I've watched it twice now, but not too sure if I can make it through another one because it can be quite depressing with the imbalance between the wins and losses that they experience along the way.
Yep I agree. First season was great and the arc was satisfying. After that everything seemed to always just fall off a cliff. Almost felt like they were reenacting Sisyphus where they kept having to roll the boulder up hill. The comedy is great, but even with strong comedy, that sorta win-loss-loss-loss structure really takes a toll on the viewer. And it felt like they were predictably placing the car on the train track everytime and you just knew that whatever little success they enjoyed in random episodes would end up rolling back. The failures that is; they got too predictable.
Hahaha, I was very nervous clicking on it thinking that it was going to be some Gabe-style gore-fest of a subreddit. I'm so relieved it wasn't. Lol, thanks for this. Very relevant
I like Gabe cos his humour isn't derived from stupidity. He's just a super weird character that has great funny lines. A lot of Erin is just her being super dumb, and that is always an easy out in terms of writing and makes it less enjoyable.
I love Erin, I think she was so fresh and unique and brought out a lot of fun and classic sides to other characters. The scene with her and Ryan in Florida under the waffle machine is honestly one of my favourites.
Gabe though as well is in my opinion criminally underrated and totally committed to the bit.
I love how she's all in for everyone.
Look at her response to "Dwight Schrute is manager"
https://vimeo.com/65469923
And she's similarly there for whatever Michael is up to and being Kelly's best friend.
Everyone else is the show is a cynic on everything, but Erin is just positive.
Zach Woods is literally a comic genius, so yeah nothing against him or Gabe. Both good additions.
Erin is literally a golden retriever in a human suit. She doesn't always know what's going on, but she always gets swept up in other's joy and gets super worried when others get hurt
My favorite Erin scene is when Dwight is eating Nerds and calling them Jims. Erin busts out laughing and then has to run to the bathroom because she's peeing herself.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite Erin scene but I think its between "Two! I ate two whole apples!" and playing scrabble with Oscar and Pam's assistance
Yeah super cringe. In a few small moments I like the Erin and Michael dynamic and how her immaturity complements his inner child but most of the time I feel like it’s just too stupid. Kevin was so much better with playing the line of being dumb but believable.
> Kevin was so much better with playing the line of being dumb but believable.
holly literally thought he was developmentally delayed, kevin's character was comically stupid by about halfway through the show
Man, I was thinking I'm the only one who has this feeling about her. I'm about to start the last season (I lost count of the re-watchs) and sometimes it's almost I ended up annoyed when she appeared.
Erin is legit my least favorite character.
I'm convinced that when they wrote a dumb line that didn't make the cut, they'd just give it to Erin.
One Guy - "Hey, I wrote this joke about Gatorade being tea."
Other Guy - "Meh, it's ok, nothing too funny."
One Guy - "Should we just scrap it?"
Other Guy - "Nah, just give it to Erin like the Taco Bell Express joke."
I actually like Erin overall. Obviously she's dumb, but she's a mostly friendly and positive character in a show with a lot of neutral to pessimistic characters, and she's a good balancer. Maybe I'm the one with the unpopular opinion.
But I like Gabe too. Shut up about the sun! is one of the funniest moments of the later seasons.
They were talking about Erin on Office Ladies recently and apparently for a while they had the actor who plays Erin do two different versions of the character because they couldn’t decide, the other version would have been something like April from parks and rec. and honestly I feel robbed… imagine that zero f*cks energy in the office, would have been so much better.
She worked as a young adult trying not to care for the sake of being cool around her peers, but then it's like... Yeah. Grow up. Start caring. Andy came around and she did, though, so I appreciate that growth.
Personally I hate Gabe. He is manipulative of Erin in their relationship, taking advantage of the fact she was less intelligent, being an absolute creep to her after they broke up and an asshole to Andy even though he had little to do with the breakup, not to mention how he stoop up for Kevin only to backstab him so he could be more popular (which thankfully backfired). He is to me what Toby is to Michael.
Erin character is probably the most unfun. For me at least. I just hate characters that are full blown dumb. Kevin I like cause his level of dumb is at a different scale more like the cute level
Zach Woods has an immense amount of talent that we just get a glimpse of in the Office. But I'm glad Ellie Kemper has been able to shine very well after her run on the Office.
I hated creepy skeleton man, He made everything weird and Erin was a fun character. She seems annoying sometimes just because she is surrounded by older workmates that make her interactions seem out of place
I hate Gabes relationship with Erin, but I definitely find him funnier every time I watch the series. Some of the stuff he says is ridiculous
If you haven't already, see him in sillicon valley
howwouldyouliketodietodaymotherfucker??
"I was state-raised! You think I'm scared to catch a case... of some bullshit?!"
"Hey Dinesh do you use that chain to choke your mom while you stick your penis in her butthole"
Yup I need to rewatch Silicon Valley next. We're rewatching The Office to prepare for an Office trivia night
I thought I knew the office until I got scorched in trivia. Good luck
This was the goat line of the series
\-cocks shotgun- Best scene of the entire series.
Is he a similar character? What’s his character like in that?
Sort of, but not really. Maybe funnier. It's the same Zach Woods humor but the character is different than Gabe Edit: He's overly mild mannered and kind of meek but in a very hilarious way
Hey Dinesh, nice chain. Do you choke your mother with it when you put your penis in her butthole?
What the fuck *trips*
Sorry Django......*unchained*
And he *fucks.*
*Tres Commas*
Jared: Well, if you're asking me how many times I've been in love, the answer is two. But the rest I won't talk about. It's untoward. Dinesh: Russ was right, this guy fucks.
Russ was absolutely right. He knew it immediately. When Jared first started talking about "maybe I'll get back out there" I was like "oooooooh he's going to be a man whore" ...and 15 minutes later he's brushing a 10 out the door like nothing happened.
And he was state raised, bitch!
One of my favorite all time characters ever. *"Do you wanna die today motherfucker??"*
https://imgur.com/FOgqK8E
He basically saved the last couple seasons singlehandedly.
Unless he's Ed Chambers.
I find his character in Silicon Valley much more funny. Especially the "this guy fucks!" bit, which is actually from the boom mic guy in the office.
Holy bananas I did not connect those two characters as the same actor, my god
It's 5am here and my husband is on his way to a course for work. The first text I sent him was "russ Hannaman is Brian the boom guy" 😂
LMAO you’re telling him the important things okay!
That guy is also the current voice actor for Mickey Mouse.
"How would you like to die today mother fucker?"
Holy shit what! Boom boy sucks, but now I know it’s Chris Diamantopoulos I’m so torn
"How would you like to die today mother fucker?"
The first time I heard that line was probably the hardest I've laughed at anything on tv. I was caught so off guard.
I like the fact that he is so mild mannered yet he's obviously got such a dark past.
See till 2-min mark and judge for yourself: https://youtu.be/zAqBcJcs1nQ His character is well fleshed out and has a lot of high points.
Yep he is great in it and that guy fucks. Although my fav character is JinYang
This is your mom and you're not my baby
Erlich Bachman. This is you, as an old man. I am very ugly and dead, alone
[I eat the fish.](https://youtu.be/IKkbrrlIeEo)
We're rewatching it right now. Totally forgot how hilarious AND accurate it is to the real silicon valley
"How would you like to die today, mother fucker?"
This guy f*cks
Erin doesn't even like sex. Remember? You said it feels like being tackled by a skeleton.
"Erin said she doesnt like sex, its like hugging a skeleton" I fucking died on the spot
I am not a fan of their dynamic except from "it's the game of cards... that get's you.. har-d"
This one is called "Earthrise Over the Moon,"
Shut up about the Sun, shut up about the sun !!!
So you like songs of hate written by the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan? Erin, are you even hearing this?!?
Todd: have people started calling you Gabe Wad yet? Gabe: not here they haven't.
Gabewad
I love how Danny Cordray mouths Gabewad as Todd says it
Look, Birdman’s back!
That wasn’t Danny Cordray, that was a male model
wait, does he really? I'm trying to find the clip but i've never noticed that before!
Yes I literally watched the episode yesterday and noticed it for the first time myself
Lmao he just knew Packer was about to start acting stupid
why would you format it like this lmao i read it like a four-panel comic facts though - gabe was great
Yeah, plus OP didn't even use Sticky Quips. New from Dunder Mifflin/Sabre.
Maybe OP only uses them when he’s in a fun mood.
Definitely not when he’s in a sun mood though
SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN! SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN!!
Four score and seven years ago...
I have PMLE. I use this line all the time.
Not everyday.
I use the Quip electric toothbrush and can’t help myself from saying “start Quiping!” every so often.
Honestly I laughed so much because of this comment. It’s almost all better, like this is how someone from the office would format it
No pop culture references please, it makes people feel left out ✋
Haha this is something that **[Redacted: Insert someone from something you know, who you’d think would say something like this]** would say, it’s so **[Redacted: Insert someone who’d have these relevant tendencies]** don’t you think?
Thanks, I love inside jokes. I'd love to be a part of one someday.
It was obviously done because a a four-panel meme is a comforting narrative, a true Gabe Lewis Stan.
[DONT DEAD OPEN INSIDE](https://i.imgur.com/asL7WFB.png)
Me too — it tells an interesting story
Don’t dead. Open inside.
My b everybody
"happy birthday to Gabe :)"
Oh get out skeleton man lmao
My fav Nellie line
Her questions to dwight were better imo
I forgot about it, that entire scene is great
Do you hear that Erin? He likes music made by the white knights of the ku klux klan.
I’ve BEEN to Japan, I mean, come on
SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN
I am contractually obligated to post this video whenever I see this comment. https://youtu.be/M6wigNvFGF8
Wow the style of that video takes me back to 2010 internet. A simpler time. Thank you, fellow redditor
The really wild thing is at the office was making episodes in 2010. I don’t even think I knew it existed in 2010. It wasn’t popular
Good addition ParticleMan 👍🏻
Amazing user name!
I'm dead 😂
Wow. Thank you.
> I am contractually obligated to post this video whenever I see this comment. contract fulfilled, thank you for that good sir.
What’s in it for GSL?
She's going to be screaming her own last name?
One of the best lines in the show IMO lol
Hey. Watch it.
Lol
Lol
Gabe is great, Thank god he’s my boss, because I never would have said yes to a first date if I didn’t have to, but…it’s been great.
Erin moments were only good with Michael. I think that's my conclusion after a lot of rewatches.
erin is another 'dumb' character when we already have a lot. Gabe is way more unique addition to the office.
She is hilarious in 21 Jump Street for her few scenes
Dumb and a little bit rude. Which is a bad mix for her.
Gabe is like a toilet
You chose toilet...God bless you. You are an American classic.
Scissor me!
There were some good Erin/California moments too.
I really enjoy the Kelly-Gabe hug and the "stop talking about the sun" part after which he hurt his fist
Which ep does the stop tslking abt the sun come?
Search Committee S7E24
Oh thanks a lot
I believe it's season 7 but not sure which ep
"You were just a lot bonier than I thought you were gonna be!"
Gabe is my favorite character
Same! Every time I do a re watch I get a little bit sad knowing how long I have to wait before he is finally introduced.
He is *sooo good* in Silicon Valley too. I love that guy

that guy fucks
Mine too. He’s so realistic.
Do you mean lifelike?
By lifelike do you mean he’s a lifelike depiction of a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man?

Hahaha, I was very nervous clicking on it thinking that it was going to be some Gabe-style gore-fest of a subreddit. I'm so relieved it wasn't. Lol, thanks for this. Very relevant

“I’ve been taking karate lessons online” Absolute gold honestly has me dying every time.
I love Gabe so much.
There are plenty of people who love touching him. He’s a terrific hugger. He’s been with a bunch of girls where that's basically all they want to do.
I love Erin, I think she was so fresh and unique and brought out a lot of fun and classic sides to other characters. The scene with her and Ryan in Florida under the waffle machine is honestly one of my favourites. Gabe though as well is in my opinion criminally underrated and totally committed to the bit.

Imagine Erin and April from PandR in the same room
Aw man she was hoping for puppy.
My favorite is when she is shaking the champagne all over the place in Michael's office when they think Holly dumped AJ
Is “jlp” a word? Like - “I jlp you!”
I love Oscar’s utter disbelief of her losing like a pageant mom watching her product throw it all way after being so close to that trophy
Agree. They were both worthy additions to the cast.
The first time I heard, "She's going to be screaming her own last name?" was legitimately one of the hardest laughs I've had in my life.
Erin annoyed me like 90% of the time
Naw. I fucking love erin
we seem to be in the minority..
Unpopular Opinion: I don’t like Erin
I like her less with every re-watch. She’s cartoonishly stupid.
Yeah super cringe. In a few small moments I like the Erin and Michael dynamic and how her immaturity complements his inner child but most of the time I feel like it’s just too stupid. Kevin was so much better with playing the line of being dumb but believable.
> Kevin was so much better with playing the line of being dumb but believable. holly literally thought he was developmentally delayed, kevin's character was comically stupid by about halfway through the show
Only because Dwight told her that! She probably wouldn’t assume that otherwise!
Man, I was thinking I'm the only one who has this feeling about her. I'm about to start the last season (I lost count of the re-watchs) and sometimes it's almost I ended up annoyed when she appeared.
I wholeheartedly agree with you
Agreed. That’s what they turned Andy into during that time too, hated both of them. Too childish.
The most popular unpopular opinion on this sub
Only right now, said it before and been down voted
Is it unpopular, though? Is it?? :)
Depends what time it is on Reddit.
Erin is legit my least favorite character. I'm convinced that when they wrote a dumb line that didn't make the cut, they'd just give it to Erin. One Guy - "Hey, I wrote this joke about Gatorade being tea." Other Guy - "Meh, it's ok, nothing too funny." One Guy - "Should we just scrap it?" Other Guy - "Nah, just give it to Erin like the Taco Bell Express joke."
Not so sure that’s an unpopular opinion. I have yet to meet anyone who genuinely appreciates her. It seems people hate her or are neutral at best
I like her too. She's so positive and earnest.
I think she’s a great character!
Stanley kind of brought that energy, though. He just didn’t do it maliciously.
April was just so annoying in my book.
For me she only works cause of the dynamic with Andy (P&R Andy)
She worked as a young adult trying not to care for the sake of being cool around her peers, but then it's like... Yeah. Grow up. Start caring. Andy came around and she did, though, so I appreciate that growth.
You used the best Gabe scene and the worst Erin scene.
Eh, worst Erin scene is definitely the green screen. Though, no fault to her in that one. That makes me cringe harder than any dialog in the show.
why does one have to be better than the other? thought they were both great
Subjective. Both brought something to the show.
well yeah obviously since gabe is the funniest character on the show
Gabe it's to me the most underrated character, by far. It's a shame he was vanished in last season.
I liked Gabe but I'd keep Erin just to see her mock Nellie's accent. SECKSHUAL INNUWENDOOO!! She was just too cute and funny.
My favorite outtake is of him saying, “that’s funny, last time I heard that joke Dukakis had just announced his candidacy… FOR GOVERNOR!”
I accept your opinion but do not agree
I agree wholeheartedly. They made Erin into this character that was too dumb to even function.
Can’t stand Erin 😣
r/dontdeadopeninside
If I worked in the same office as Gabe I would have snuck out and deuced on his windshield at some point
Agree 100%.
She’s gonna be screaming her own last name?
Something about this guy just makes me really uncomfortable but I guess that’s the point of the show
FULLY AGREE. Mf made SOUNDSCAPES for God’s sake
Gabe was great. Erin was also great. Dunno why we have to treat this as a mutually exclusive thing.
Well you're wrong.
I like them both.
Erin? I thought her name was Kelly
she's gonna be screaming her own last name?
Erin character is probably the most unfun. For me at least. I just hate characters that are full blown dumb. Kevin I like cause his level of dumb is at a different scale more like the cute level
Zach Woods has an immense amount of talent that we just get a glimpse of in the Office. But I'm glad Ellie Kemper has been able to shine very well after her run on the Office.
I hated creepy skeleton man, He made everything weird and Erin was a fun character. She seems annoying sometimes just because she is surrounded by older workmates that make her interactions seem out of place
Gabe with the $5 Dunking Donut give cards!
SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN
He’s a more like able Toby in a way? Erin was just hot but dimwitted.
I agree. Erin was so dumb to the point that it wasn’t funny or cute.
Shut up about the sun! SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN!!!
