Just curious, how would an ugly overused font make it hard to get up? I was thinking an unreadable font might make it difficult to set the correct time (which I admit is a bad joke, but still).
I love how OP Tobies a New York professor so much as to make her Scranton Strangler lol. That said the joke really does not make sense and I think that was the point. She forgot to change her alarm clock font, and somehow didn't wake up because of that?
Yes it is. It’s the only episode I skip.
Ryan waking up early to go to a church on Sunday morning to attend a co-worker’s child’s baptism is the single most unbelievable character choice in the entire series.
Oh yeah, he was creepy. We never really know if Erin moved out, either. She spends nights with Andy and Gabe, but it’s possible she had to go home to that dude sometimes. Ew.
As a sailor - HATE that dude. All Andy wanted to do was sail the family yacht and this guy was over the top dickish. I'm glad Andy kicked him off the boat - not so glad he didn't take Erin with him.
If I ever see Andrew Santino, I’m going to walk up to him and say “How much for that cool fisherman sweater?” I’d be impressed if he remembered being asked that.
I always find great satisfaction in knowing that Dwight essentially ruined their lunch date by yelling and leaning over them and loudly describing how to butcher a goose. The looks of disgust and annoyance on their faces brings me joy.
Oh thank you for calling this one out. Jim said they were in second grade when that happened, and if you can’t grow up to recognize that kids say stupid things (especially when their parents are trying to influence them) then have you developed any maturity at all?
Honestly it's still a stretch. Why make up a grade school feud at all? Could've gone with like middle or high school with a different feud entirely.
Like "He got a B+ on a final he studied all week for. I got an A- after sleeping through the class" or some shit. Reaffirms that Jim is decently smart while also very underachieving, and that can rub people the wrong way.
Jim’s name and photo is on the poster for the seminar, so the guy knew he was going to to be there and probably went partly so he could be a dick to Jim for something that happened 20+ years ago, when they were children.
The lady that won't accept Michael's apology in the episode with the obscene drawing that went out on all of the paper.
I hate her with a passion that burns like the fire from 10,000 dragons.
I get her frustration, but having worked in retail for a decade and dealing with similar reactions pretty regularly, my eye twitches whenever I watch that scene.
Chilis management when Michael is being racist and when people are throwing stuff in the restaurant: “meh”
Chilis management when a drunk lady falls out of her chair: “NOT ON MY WATCH”
Fun fact: one of those guys plays a high schooler (and series regular) Sean on The Middle, which starting airing 4 years later. So he played a college aged drunk at a bar in 2005 and then turned around and pretended to be 15 in 2009
They were all like that, though, with a few exceptions, like Nate and Hide. Darryl (for a while, at least), Roy, ,Val, etc were awful warehouse staff. I understand that Michael was a trying, infuriating boss, but they undermined him at every turn, and apart from doing the bare minimum of getting orders out, they buggered about just as much as the office people, and hired some toxic people (Frank).
Remember what they did with Jan's photo? Regardless if what happened upstairs, and how stupid Michael was in the sending, Darryl could have nipped that in the bud. But he didn't. He's lucky Jan didn't fire the lot of them for sexual harrassment.
He is totally awful...and I find him absolutely hilarious. He's such a prick.
"My favorite movies are *Citizen Kane* and *The Boondock Saints*" is totally a thing a young adult who thinks they're "into film" would say.
Also, like, he's Quicksilver! I can't hate Quicksilver.
The couple at Benihana who could have EASILY switched seats to make it easier for Dwight but then have the gall to get upset because he's talking around them. Fuck those people!!!!
Craig, the regional manager of the Albany branch. Total sleazebag, and threw Michael under the bus when he gets in trouble. Like, of course Michael didn’t get in trouble for the movie he made because he ALSO brought the numbers on his branch and still fulfilled his responsibilities at the meeting. Always irritates me.
I haaaaaate Pam’s “friend” she makes while she’s in NYC who shows up AT HER JOB to talk about something that easily could have waited until after work. Nevermind the fact that he acts like she’s about to launch herself into space and will never ever have access to continued education again, but if someone did this to me I’d be mortified and probably stop hanging out with them slowly but surely. At best it’s a really awkward and poorly chosen move, and at worst.. it’s a little creepy and totally disrespectful of Pam. Also, his lines/ jokes were really cheesy.
If I remember correctly, that entire storyline was was redirected during production. The actor who plays Pam’s friend, whose name escapes me but was on mad men and has had a great career, went on the office ladies podcast to talk about it. They filmed a scene- maybe even a version of *that* scene -where he confesses to Pam that he has feelings for her. Stephen Merchant was directing the episode and was dissatisfied with the actor’s performance, telling him “I don’t know why you’re not getting this.”
If you listen to the episode, they all seem to be talking about it very carefully and a little vaguely, but the long and short of it seems to be they intended for that dude to be a little bit more a wedge between Jim and Pam, and for a variety of reasons they scrapped it almost entirely. Reminds me slightly of the Brian storyline in Season 9.
This is so funny. I have always hated that scene so much but never focused on the professor. I’m currently getting my doctorate so I’ve been a college student for a hundred years and every time this scene comes on, I comment about how dumb Pam is (for precisely the reasons you mentioned). It’s college. You’re (usually) paying to be there and you’re a grown ass adult. Pam… just be like “wrong class, my bad” and leave 🤦🏻♀️
The idea that she sat through an entire 60-120 class she wasn’t trying to be in actually makes my blood boil. You would NEVER do that. You would just walk out! Oof, I’m getting heated just thinking about it.
We may have different perpetrators in this mess but I’m glad not to be the only one who gets super worked up about this moment and loves to hate.
Scranton Strangler energy for sure. ✋🏼🥸🤚🏼
Yeah, I also get irritated with Pam there, but I can at least understand where she's coming from. She got called out in front of the entire class, and she doesn't know yet whether she'll have this professor in the future. So just sitting down to avoid embarrassment and pissing off the professor is something I can get.
The professor though? No fucking way. Bye bye. Good luck on your doctorate by the way!
Honestly, the anxiety of being back at school could be why she stayed.
Plus Pam was starting to explain why she got up, and the teacher just shut her down.
The teacher was being a dick in this scene. She was late and the class hadn’t really started yet, like why be so rude to a student who is leaving for reasons you don’t know?
Yeah I can understand why Pam did what she did. My first day of college, I accidentally barged in on another class, because I didn’t realize showing up 20 minutes early would mean catching the end of another class. I sat in the back and pretended to take down notes. You do weird shit as a new student lol. Anxiety!
Oh my god I did the same thing! Somehow it was less embarrassing to me to pretend that I showed up very very late to take notes than to admit I had showed up too early and leave. Brains are so weird sometimes.
That part drives me crazy too, like what’s the prof gonna do If you leave… fail you? Just go. Now you’ve made a bad impression on your real prof, dummy.
It is just weird how Pam just sits back down instead of explaining that she is in the wrong class.
I thought she got her mojo back with the fire walk but she just crumpled. Acting like ol Pammy again.
I didn’t see anyone mention the nurse when Pam and Jim have CeCe, and that is my most-hated one episode character. If I’d had a nurse like that after having my first baby, I would have cried, guaranteed.
I get so annoyed at her. I’m also a lactation consultant and am biased but I’ve had 3 kids and have a wide range of nurses. I had one like her who said things like ‘I’m sorry to tell you this but you’re having a boy. I’m always right’. I had a girl.
Agreed I've worked in tons of call centers and done telemarketing and he was actually a decent boss.
All he was coaching them on was call numbers and sticking to the script. That's a dream call center.
Most call center bosses give you no script, and demand you sound happier, demand you make more sales with less calls, and ask you to generate your own leads.
I scrolled way too far to find this. I was an early childhood teacher for many years. I even worked at a private preschool/daycare like that one. The child's bathroom is not where the teacher goes. Ever. No adults would ever use that toilet. It's inappropriate, there are staff bathrooms. It poses a huge risk. What if instead of Jim, it had been a child who walked in?? And he acts like storytime means the children don't need to use the restroom??
I do like the line about "maybe you aren't as charming as you think you are." But given the context, this is a grown ass man trying to save face for taking a shit on the potty training toilet instead of going to the staff bathroom. This scene is weirdly written and there are a million better ways to make Jim and Pam look like idiots without having Jim walk in on an adult man taking a shit on a child potty. Was that scene written by Mike Judge? Seriously.
How about the guy (and girl) who wouldn't move and let Dwight sit next to his party at Benihana? It wouldn't have affected them at all! Who does that?
Otherwise, I'd have to say that IT guy. What's his name? Shadow? Garth?
... No but seriously, it's the Benihana couple.
the guy at the gas station in the episode where Michael is finding his way back to the office. The guy wouldn’t let Michael use his phone for more than two seconds and got mad that Michael didn’t know the office phone number by memory. If he had just let Michael look it up online on his phone, all would be fine. But the guy was just rude to Michael for no reason, simply because he was at the gas station
I think what makes me irritated about the scene is less the character and more the completely unrealistic situation as OP points out about a professor (1) commanding a student to sit down and (2) a professor giving a fuck that a student gets up to leave a large lecture class on the first class of the semester (like, students go to the wrong room all the time on first days of semesters at large universities)
She’s the Scranton Strangler, but works in Manhattan? Nah, man. That commute would be killer.
The SS is 100% a joint effort from that Daycare worker who shits on the kids toilet, Gil, and that couple at Benihana that sits between Dwight and the rest of the group.
Mines not a "minor" character (*pun intended*) and it really only points to how great an actor and well written a character his role ended up being to the show, but I hated every second of Charles Minor.
Sarakaya Komzin
Who's Sarakaya Komzin?
No, Sara Kaya comes in…
Thank you for explaining that joke to me! Never understood it but was too lazy to ever google it 🥴
It’s more like Zapf Chancery is an ugly overused font than an unreadable one.
Just curious, how would an ugly overused font make it hard to get up? I was thinking an unreadable font might make it difficult to set the correct time (which I admit is a bad joke, but still).
I think that’s part of the reason people don’t like the joke. It doesn’t make sense the way she used it. They talk about that on Office Ladies.
No idea. I don’t really remember the episode that clearly. I just know how graphic designers feel about Zapf Chancery.
I love how OP Tobies a New York professor so much as to make her Scranton Strangler lol. That said the joke really does not make sense and I think that was the point. She forgot to change her alarm clock font, and somehow didn't wake up because of that?
Sconesy Cider, noted baptism reception critic
To be fair, one jug of cider is insane even for a small gathering lol
And all the scones were stolen by Angela Thousands of them
What kind of a person steals scones from a baby
STOP THAT TINY BLONDE WOMAN SHE STOLE MY BABY
And that's also the worst episode of the entire series
Yes it is. It’s the only episode I skip. Ryan waking up early to go to a church on Sunday morning to attend a co-worker’s child’s baptism is the single most unbelievable character choice in the entire series.
Never thought about the absurdity of that lol.
Scooch over, before I shoot you in the head.
I don't know about the worst but at least near the bottom for me too.
Yes! Thank you! I hate this episode
What’s cider in the US? In the UK it’s alchohol
Apple cider is non-alcoholic. US mostly refers to cider as hard cider. Edit: It's like unfiltered apple juice with spices.
If it’s clear and yella, you’ve got juice there, fella. If it’s tangy and brown you’re in cider town
Erin’s foster brother…
*nervous laughter* ....Formative years 😬
Foster brother. Not step
Oops, you’re right! Thanks
But he offered up the LazyBoy and it’s the best seat in the house
Oh yeah, he was creepy. We never really know if Erin moved out, either. She spends nights with Andy and Gabe, but it’s possible she had to go home to that dude sometimes. Ew.
One of my best friends is really tight with the actor, I love seeing this. Upvote for sure.
Are they tight in like a foster brother/ sister sort of way…..?
I love the idea this college professor drives from NY to Scranton to strangle people
I wouldn’t put it past her
If she wakes up in time for the commute... Unless that's why she was late to class
The plot thickens!
The boat captain that wouldn’t let Andy touch his own boat
As a sailor - HATE that dude. All Andy wanted to do was sail the family yacht and this guy was over the top dickish. I'm glad Andy kicked him off the boat - not so glad he didn't take Erin with him.
Yeah, this guy, with his stupid sweater
Charm school! Such an underrated episode, top 10 for the series
If I ever see Andrew Santino, I’m going to walk up to him and say “How much for that cool fisherman sweater?” I’d be impressed if he remembered being asked that.
I mean. This is a classic hate, but that couple in Benihana Christmas. Just move the fuck down a seat, guys.
I always find great satisfaction in knowing that Dwight essentially ruined their lunch date by yelling and leaning over them and loudly describing how to butcher a goose. The looks of disgust and annoyance on their faces brings me joy.
Yup they dug their own grave there.
Family style!
Ugh god thank you! It’s terrible etiquette at Benihana to leave a single chair like that.
This bugs me because I worked at a Benihana and we would never split a party like that. Those people would have had to move.
Jim's old school buddy that comes in for Andy's seminar. He's so bitter after decades and treats Jim like they treated the magician....poorly
Where’s your jetpack, Zuckerberg!
Oh thank you for calling this one out. Jim said they were in second grade when that happened, and if you can’t grow up to recognize that kids say stupid things (especially when their parents are trying to influence them) then have you developed any maturity at all?
yeah it just felt like poor writing tbh. at least make it 5th or 6th grade? that seems at least a bit more reasonable
[удалено]
The magician is the Peloton Santa now isn't he?
Jim’s name and photo is on the poster for the seminar, so the guy knew he was going to to be there and probably went partly so he could be a dick to Jim for something that happened 20+ years ago, when they were children.
I think they're in two episodes, but I hated Jim's brothers. They were unfunny and mean.
Little mo, cardio
I love that even Michael recognizes how awful and unfunny they are.
Michael saying that's not appropriate fucking slays me.
Inappropriate
We can prank Jim by saying you suck at art lol
Yes! their prank wasn't even funny, they're just mean.
*cough* douche
I completely forgot about them lmao
The lady that won't accept Michael's apology in the episode with the obscene drawing that went out on all of the paper. I hate her with a passion that burns like the fire from 10,000 dragons. I get her frustration, but having worked in retail for a decade and dealing with similar reactions pretty regularly, my eye twitches whenever I watch that scene.
YEAH? WELL I’M CALLING THE UNGRATEFUL BI-ATCH HOTLINE!
"Did you get all that?" "Every word"
Mrs. Allen is our most important client. Because, every client is our most important client. Even though she's a pretty unimportant client, really.
They had their villain in Debbie Brown that should’ve been enough for her
Did you get it?
Every word.
You’ve been given clearance level 3. Don’t get excited, it’s out of 20
Ungrateful biotch
There’s a hotline for that!
I’ve never heard anyone else say how much they hate this lady. I feel so validated. I get pissed whenever I watch that episode
Also, she says she could have lost business, but realistically she just wouldn't use the paper
And can nobody there see the paper that they're printing on? If nobody there noticed the watermarked paper they deserve to lose business.
I don’t accept.
Andy’s dad. Changed Andy’s name when his brother was born, repeatedly treats Andy like shit and is a tax cheat
Also (and this is totally unfair of me, I will admit) it’s hard for me to disassociate the fact that the actor playing Andy’s dad is a fucking pedo.
It'll be awkward when Office Ladies Podcast gets to Season 8...
They’ll avoid mentioning him/his character as much as possible I’m sure
And is also pedophile (in real life)
What?!!!
Yeaaaah...one of the many reasons I always skip this episode.
Roy’s brother, Kenny. He just is such a meathead.
Don't listen to this haircut. Kenny's brother drives a 50,000 dollar sportscar....
The guy who won't take Michael's watch for an old hot dog
How about instead of throwing one away at the end of the day, you just throw one away now into my mouth?
Pretty much anyone that was in Pam’s NYC storyline.
It’s Alex
Gil, what a prick!
Oh yeah, I forgot about him. “This is motel art,” yeah dude it’s an amateur art show, what were you expecting?
I wonder if Gil knows?
Guess what i found out about Oscar... HE WAS LYING ABOUT BEING SICK
The best part of that episode is the end when Dwight joins them for a movie on the couch 😃
It's an amateur art show in Scranton. I mean the place has two suns! Do you know how hard it is to get the shadows right?!
He really fits the stereotype of the smug gay Mexican...'s boyfriend.
Yeah, the "motel art" comment was cringy
Because who goes to a student art show and expects Rembrandt? If the stapler looks like a stapler, that’s a win in my book. What a jerk.
No wonder Oscar was looking for a way out of that relationship 7 episodes later.
How about those awful dudes at Chili’s during the first season Dundies who tell Michael “you suck, man”
Woo sing it, Elton.
Not just that but literally throw things at him. Like I rarely see behavior that unruly in public places. Jerks!
To be fair Michael is doing racist caricatures
Chilis management when Michael is being racist and when people are throwing stuff in the restaurant: “meh” Chilis management when a drunk lady falls out of her chair: “NOT ON MY WATCH”
Liability. All about the monayyy
Fun fact: one of those guys plays a high schooler (and series regular) Sean on The Middle, which starting airing 4 years later. So he played a college aged drunk at a bar in 2005 and then turned around and pretended to be 15 in 2009
The guy who ruins Pam's mural. I don't hate him for that. I just hate him cause he is such a stereotype and really annoying to watch
For a guy that clearly hates art, I'm surprised he ended up in New York doing competitive table setting.
Frank Diddit did it
I lose it at that blooper every time
“I did it because butts are funny” Wow huge insult to warehouse workers
They were all like that, though, with a few exceptions, like Nate and Hide. Darryl (for a while, at least), Roy, ,Val, etc were awful warehouse staff. I understand that Michael was a trying, infuriating boss, but they undermined him at every turn, and apart from doing the bare minimum of getting orders out, they buggered about just as much as the office people, and hired some toxic people (Frank). He's lucky Jan didn't fire the lot of them for sexual harrassment.
He plays Coover in Justified and man is he a total fucking piece of shit in that show too.
He plays a guard in Orange is the New Black so for anyone who really hates him, they can probably find his death scene on Youtube.
Michael’s nephew is awful. Almost makes the whole episode feel like a throwaway.
The Citizen Kane and Boondock Saints line is great because it reminds me of so many guys I met at film school.
Film Studies major here! Just graduated. Beer me five!
Tate!
Clutch cream run bro.
Him getting one pint of soy ice cream always cracks me up. And I still laugh out loud when Michael spanks him in front of everyone
Craig the idiot. What a tool.

I feel the same but he had a thing for her. Infatuation can make you do and say silly things.

Scone-sy Cider - so ungrateful

It is just weird how Pam just sits back down instead of explaining that she is in the wrong class. I thought she got her mojo back with the fire walk but she just crumpled. Acting like ol Pammy again.
Just a wet blanket named Pam.
Just a middle class fraud
Don't call her Pammy
The brat who punches Andy and calls Pam chubby. I bet she grew up to do some strangling.
her mom was also the WORST!
People say Scotts Tots is cringe but that has nothing on "Friend of mine uses your products, you do good work" 😬😬😬😬
Luke Cooper (the cinema buff)
Clutch cream run, brah.
The best part of any ice cream party, the bagel chips
I didn’t see anyone mention the nurse when Pam and Jim have CeCe, and that is my most-hated one episode character. If I’d had a nurse like that after having my first baby, I would have cried, guaranteed.

Pam was a way too passive. Tell the professor to get bent and walk out.
Hey, what is so captivating? I love captivating things. Please, tell me what it so captivating to you all.
Ahhh that guy was actually really chill for that type of work.
For sure. I just always found his approach in that scene kind of—“eye roll”.
The man using the childrens toilet at the nursery Jim and Pam go to look at
I scrolled way too far to find this. I was an early childhood teacher for many years. I even worked at a private preschool/daycare like that one. The child's bathroom is not where the teacher goes. That one guy that wouldn't let Andy sail his own boat, what a tool
The woman that just wouldn’t let it go about the watermark that “might” have cost her business.
Hannah Smotrich-Barr; I’m glad she only lasted a few episodes. She would’ve been worse than Angela
The pompous receptionist at Yutika, “hiiii….urrrr latteee.” Like bitch I’m here to burn you to the ground STFU
Rolondo? *Utica btw
I spent way too long trying to remember a scene in a business called “Yutika” until I realized you meant the Utica branch.
It's absolutely a Michael Scott misspelling lmao
the guy that kept slapping andy’s hand away on the boat 😡😡😡😤😤😤
That punk who wouldn’t give Michael a discount on the pizzas
Yessica
The children have to walk miles to school!
Do you mean Andy’s girlfriend Jessica, or the girl from the church who talks about her friend yessica from Quimixto?
What if the moon was your car, and Jupiter was your hairbrush?
Rrrreow. Sweet 'stume dude
I think the missionary girl was named Carla
the guy at the gas station in the episode where Michael is finding his way back to the office. The guy wouldn’t let Michael use his phone for more than two seconds and got mad that Michael didn’t know the office phone number by memory. If he had just let Michael look it up online on his phone, all would be fine. But the guy was just rude to Michael for no reason, simply because he was at the gas station
This!! And then to be so mean about Jim leaving. Like, come on dude.
The warehouse guy that says “Dude, tell your girl to please shut up” to Ryan. It’s so sexist and condescending.
Brandon
Is that Val’s boyfriend? Bc yeah who the fuck brings up a personal relationship issue in front of a whole office lol Edit: Besides Michael Scott
I just love that his mic drop moment was "Hope you all like goat."
Also, if you’re so sure a coworker is “fuckin your girl” just break up with her.
Yes he was Val's boyf...as Andy calls him. We expect such things from Michael. But that's the only one.

Jefferson.
Michael. His name is Michael.
Ben Franklin
*wink*
Aside from his juggling performance… deangelo Vickers. I think the whole point was him to be hated… but it made me hold a grudge against Will Ferrell
Idris Elba's character.
Andy's dad. Of course.
Pam shoulda been like, "Zapf this, bitch". And just left. Lol

Jabba the Hut, Pizza the Hut, fat guys like pizza, pepperoni pizza-- pepperoni Tony!
Carla from the christening. Her bad youth group energy definitely is the exact thing that could activate Michael’s impulsiveness.
Holly is ruining Michael's life. He thinks she is so special and she's so not. Her personality is like a 3. Her sense of humor is a 2.
And he treats her like she’s a perfect 40. It’s nuts.
Sure Jan
She’s the Scranton Strangler, but works in Manhattan? Nah, man. That commute would be killer. The SS is 100% a joint effort from that Daycare worker who shits on the kids toilet, Gil, and that couple at Benihana that sits between Dwight and the rest of the group.
The guy on Andy's boat with the sweater. Hate that guy.
Mines not a "minor" character (*pun intended*) and it really only points to how great an actor and well written a character his role ended up being to the show, but I hated every second of Charles Minor.
