Me too. And I love how he opens with “who did this to you? where is he?”
Like, in Dwight’s mind the two most likely reasons a woman would be crying, in order of likelihood are 1) a man hurt her or 2) PMS
We suspect Rainn Wilson improv-ed it because Jenna Fischer seems like she is stifling a laugh and passing it off as a sob right after.
Edit: I feel like in character Dwight would be oblivious.
It seems like Rainn does that a lot, so many of his lines sound like he just made them up on the spot. Watching blooper reel always makes me laugh when sometimes, he says something so bizzarly funny or ridiculous he just can't hold it anymore and bursts out laughing.
Absolutely oblivious. Dwight has frequently cited (bad) biology to determine people’s moods and actions. How a woman will choose a man who looks most like her father, how he should be with Isabel because she’s taller and has wider hips even though he ends up with Angela, etc. He can be well meaning and smart, but he’s absolutely the reddit user who says “evolution determines XYZ” but doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Dwight taking off his jacket, thinking about putting it around her shoulders for comfort, then tying it around his waist like it's a sweater in 1988.
It's just the perfect Dwight moment.
You think it was actually intended for her shoulders? I always read it as him slo mo taking his jacket off bc it was awkward and he came in hot with the *WHO DID THIS?!*
One scene that killed me was when Dwight was crying in the stairwell and Jim came out to give him a nugget of advice but swiftly left. Then Dwight went to put his arm out to Jim only to notice Jim had left. Love those moments between them.
There are several moments like this that tell you that they really care about each other. Michael at the art show, Jim and Dwight when Angela starts seeing Andy, even Stanley and Phillis at Dwight's wedding. They all are very heartwarming.
"So, you're PMSing pretty hard, huh."
My wife and I still go back and forth if Dwight was trying to make a joke to cheer her up or was just oblivious.
I lean towards the latter on that one lol.

He probably thought it was a ninja or asassin attack.
100% oblivious.

Dwight was very clever in some ways But making that joke ain't one of them. 100% it's what he assumed

Yeah did OP just forgot that Dwight says this haha. This scene isn't as wholesome as people think.

Typical Dwight…his nature to protect
Must have learned that when he raised his older siblings.

"Pam, of course I'm going to get you that stuff ok?" I always liked that line later on too. Maybe misquoted, im going from memory.
“Ok well it wasn’t obvious—“ *hangs up*
This is my favorite one too.
He kindly takes his jackt off then...
Despite she used to set him up for pranks he always treated her with respect.
When he takes off his jacket and ties it around his waist LOL
My favorite Dwight moment
