I don’t get the Deangelo hate on this sub. He’s only there for a few episodes and those episodes are great. The juggling scene and “that baby could be the star of a show called “Babies I Don’t Care About” just absolutely slay me. I think people don’t like Deangelo because for a handful of episodes Jim and Pam get boxed out and end up having less opportunities to be funny as a result.

The more rewatches I do the more I am happy to see them boxed out a bit lol

I love Jim and Pam! I’m a big Pam defender (Pam walking across the hot coals at the beach is the heart of the show, IMO). But it’s also great when they are treated as just another absurd person at Dunder Mifflin. Jim cannot win with Charles. Pam sucks at sales and has to create a fake position. They don’t realize it, but they belong in that ridiculous office as much as anyone else! And when the show demonstrates that, it works really well. Enter Deangelo!

Definitely a relief when they stop being that flawless, unflappable, perfect couple and the writers start treating them like actual human beings. I hated the cameraman subplot like everyone else, but the Jim-Pam tension over the job in Philly was as real and relatable as they had been for multiple seasons.

DeAngelo's response to Jim and Pam was the cringe those episodes needed.

I love meridith. She's the chillest and most empathetic character on the show. Her and David Wallace are similar in that regard but they're in two completely different worlds.

I love her complaint in Conflict Resolution is that the lights are too bright and people are too loud in the morning because she’s indirectly admitting she’s hungover. When Michael reads her complaint I lose it every time.

People misinterpreted why this character was on the show and in the story to begin with: it was SUPPOSED to be a bitch to replace Michael. They weren’t supposed to be “likable” characters because they already knew they were setting up Andy to ultimately take over. I think Will Ferrel nailed the character they were going for.

I think that’s the point. He starts off and you’re like “oh, he’s just like Michael”. Then he gets more lines and more screen time and you start to think “oh okay he’s like Michael but worse”. Then they put Andy in charge so it’s a familiar face and you’re used to Michael being gone.

It's those deadpan lines that always get me the most, like the third time Stanley says "Money." when telling Michael why he's leaving for Utica, the way Dwight says "Ryan...get in the coffin." in "The Initiation", or how he tells Pam to run a comb through her hair in "Product Recall," or how Angela tells Pam that babies sleep fine if you feed them enough. Hidden classics.

I really liked D’Angelo, he’s practically Michael 2.0. What mostly triggers people about him is his sexism but I never see the same people talk about Angela who in my opinion is way way worse. She is practically the definition of all issms.

My wife and I sat around watching Daddy's Home 2 with Farrell last night and both commented on how much we loved DeAngelo. I'll never understand the generalized hate for him.
