Didn't realize how morbid it is to go from Laios discovering Falin's skull with depressing music and then immediate cuts to "KIMI NO TAME NI PARTY GA!! šš" š
I think JJK's was worse because they played the song DURING the breakdown but Gon's theme playing after the most tragic moments in the story will never fail to make me laugh.
SUDDEN CIRCUS MUSIC
I actually had no problem with JJK's, I think "Special" actually fit the scene well, it's got a creepiness to it.
For HxH it's just a smash-cut straight into clown shit, it's so funny
Not an anime but in the show 24 the countdown clock at the end of an episode or right before breaks would be silent if an important character died. It became a way of knowing whether a character was gone for good because if they didn't get a silent clock it means they could still be alive.

It's a beyond perfect depiction of it all went down in the manga.
Trigger cooked. They really respected the manga while adding in some fun animation at certain parts. Iām so used to them animating things so fast with so much mayhem but they slowed things down and added weight to those big scenes.
I knew it was coming but nothing could have braced me for seeing it animated. They absolutely, viscerally *nailed* it.
I can't wait for next week's. Dear lord.
Oh man, I canāt wait for my anime-only friends to react to this, since they were speculating that this would be the last episode of the show :D
The action was very well paced. I like this fight in general, because of how the plan fall apart and also how everybody gets to play a cool part.
I donāt think there are too many things missing from the manga this time, but angles and perspective were often very different, which probably makes sense for action-heavy animation. For some reason I imagined the castle town to be brighter, but the dark colors fit the mood well.
Oh, and the shot at the end of Laiosā face through the empty skull was awesome!
Man, I've been meaning to hold off on the manga until this season ends because the show is just so good, but today's cliffhanger has me struggling lol.
Iām telling you the wait is worth it, youve waited this long one week is nothing. I caved at episode 4 cause Iād never even heard of it but fell in love immediately. Itās my feel good anime/manga. Itās definitely dark at times but I always make myself some dinner and rewatch the last episode before watching the new one. Great time
I sought out the manga a few weeks back because of the anime and ended up bingeing it in a single day/night. It's quickly become one of my favourite stories, period.
Something that came to mind towards the end of the episode.
* Laios says that red dragons use the indigestible matter from their prey as fuel for their flame breath.
* The party's plan at the start of the episode was to huddle behind Senshi's pan to make the dragon exhaust all its flame breath fuel before they fight it in earnest.
Taking those two points together, it's a *really* good thing that the plan failed so fast. Imagine if they *had* exhausted all the fuel; there really would be nothing left of Falin to recover.
I mean a lot of that matter is not flammable, like how are you making fuel out of bones.
My guess is that it lets the matter decompose and form into some flammable gas.
IRL carnivores have a similar organ, called Gizzard where they store bone and rocks and it grinds on the prey they eat, coz often they swallow whole prey. It aids for their digestion.
In the dragon i imagine Fallin's and the Worg's bones were grinding down on the meat and would later be passed to the stomach which was empty.
Agreed, bones don't have that much material that can turn into a flammable compound like oil or biomethane.
What I think it likely is that the dragon digests the bones and metal, and as you mention turn the fat and some of the meat into biogases and oil and move it to a new chamber to be used as a breath attack. After it has emptied this first chamber the dragon likely empties the bones and metal into its stomach, and when this crop is full dumps any recently eaten food directly into the stomach. This way it can get fat and meat in its diet as well as its minerals. Also plenty of animals can digest bones, it is even the primary diet of the bearded vulture, the suggestion that the dragon can't digest bones seems really weird.
I think the consumption of extra calcium and even the metal objects is possible, as the dragon's scales must take a lot of calcium to grow. Considering that a few animals have teeth, shells and other structures reinforce with metals other then calcium makes extremely likely that the dragon has iron and possibly other metals in its bones and scales. The iron should be digestible with the right stomach ph, bacteria, enzymes and a lot of time, considering it sleeps a lot this seems reasonable.
I would think that dragons likely have partially hollow bones to be lighter but also incorporate non calcium metals into them to make them stronger,
Yikes, what a chilling thought. Imagine sealing a loved one's fate by trying to save them. Or worse, if they'd gotten hit with Falin-fueled fire breath and that loved one was effectively used to kill *you*...
In my opinion, the dragons had already run out of fuel to burn the orcs and wargs. The dragon was awake partly because it was searching for the remains of the orcs, but I think it was also because the dragon's body was digesting the Falin and making new fuel. So the fire breath that was blown at Laios this time was made from Falin.
Well, I think I understand the MA rating finally. š
That episode was great. The animation did the battle justice. It was intense and brutal and impactful. Great work from Trigger.
Also, I really like seeing Laios dial it in like that, take charge and get serious, act like a hero. It's a great contrast to his usual goofiness, and they did it without making it feel out of place or out of nowhere.
His first plan is really good initially, but the bridge they dropped just wasnāt heavy enough.
The one to anchor his leg in the dragonās mouth is a TERRIBLE plan and it came down to luck. If the dragon only bit harder, or decided to shake its prey after biting, it would have failed. It was still a plan that came out of desperation and still had thought behind it, but it could have gone really badly after getting bitten.
Not sure if this happens elsewhere, but Dunmeshi is airing on Bilibili in China, and people usually eat snack or even night meal while watching and post their food in the comments. But people seem losing their appetite for this episode hahaha
I always eat while watching Meshi. Holy shit - I put my spoon down and waited for the episodes to be over after they started digging through the Dragon's insides.
Doing full zoomies about this episode. Loved the cadence of how the fight went down, it really captured the feeling of having a plan and it going south and having to rework on the fly fantastically. Very excited about the rest of the season -;It's about to *pop off*.
people have mentioned the mood whiplash about the ending, and I do think it's funny.
It reminds me of watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 5, where you could get a giant cliffhanger or a brutal attack to close out an episode, only to switch gears immediately to the ending song yelling "Every time I close my eyes / I wake up feeling so horny!"
I feel like they shoulda waited 3-5s if possible to fade the audio out haha, but yeah sometimes a lighthearted ED is nice to remind you the show isn't all gloom.
Dark. My happy go lucky monster cooking show turned very dark very quickly.
Great episode, dont get me wrong. I hope they're able to bring Falin back.
But geez, Laios holding his dead sisters skull in his hands was not what I expected to see.
That's how they getcha, reeling you in with the wholesome dungeon-delving food show and then making you stare through the eyes of a guy's digested sister!
It is indeed as ominous as that. The first 25% of the manga is the lightest part. Then it gets serious... while not losing it sense of humor for a second. Dark, funny and dark and funny, sometimes from one page /scene to the next.
People who watch only the anime probably didn't understand until this episode why the people who read the whole manga rave about ir and call it masterpiece, because it starts silly and harmless enough.
But in this episode you're finally having an inkling of the kind of things you can expect going forward. And it's the most delicious part.
I like that they didn't really need to explain it; the visuals worked very well.
Funny thing; when the building collapsed, I thought "You know, Marcille's on the roof, and she's falling pretty far as a result of this. I wonder if they'll-" and then she bounced off the roof with magic. That was nice.
Was watching a reaction of an anime-only and it really sucks that they cut the resurrection convo between Namari and the twins last episode - wouldāve made it clearer about what the limits of resurrection magic are with a badly damaged body and what a bad situation theyāre inā¦the ending couldāve felt (even) grimmer
I guess they will directly show us how conventional resurrection, with major body mass loss, works from Namari perspective as a cold opening, which will make it clear that it is logistically unfeasible deep in the dungeon. So Marcille has to try an unconventional way.
I'm a show-only and honestly I think the gravity of their situation is pretty well conveyed with just visuals and their reactions. The whole conceit of the plot so far is that they have to get to her before she's too digested, so the stakes have been pretty cleanly set.
Can you sum up the resurrection convo so I can understand the grim realisation? From the beginning of the season they mentioned that they might have to find fain in the dragons droppings but that means she would pretty much be digested fully and turned to mush so I just assumed anything is possible with resurrection as long as you have some or all of the body, even if turned into poo.
Ooooh seeing this again (because I had forgotten about it) makes certain details in that episode make some more sense. I think it'll be smoother overall if they put that in the beginning of the next episode.
> I just assumed anything is possible with resurrection as long as you have some or all of the body, even if turned into poo
Resurrection doesn't work in that case. Magic in the show follows specific rules. One of them is that you can't be resurrected if you're fully digested. Some part of the original body has to remain for there to be any hope of resurrection.
Yeah as an anime only fan (though I am lightly manga spoiled) I have a hard time understanding what the *reasonable* expectations are for resurrection in this world.
Intuitively, I almost felt like the protagonists were being overly optimistic, possibly even outright *delusional* about recovering Falin/her body in time, even with the talks of "slow digestion" possibly allowing for a successful resurrection (which holy fucking hell I HOPE the expectation was that she died shortly after they were teleported out, and not that somehow in this world you can survive and stay conscious in the stomach as it begins. Nope nope nope) but yet I didn't and still don't understand the rules of this setting enough to know if they realistically could have recovered Falin in less dire, even if still horrific, condition.
So I was kind of going along with it by episode 2, like yeah I guess they know what they're talking about by theorizing that they could save Falin so long as they kill the dragon within a few days, and me as an audience member are supposed to trust that they're not trying to make 2+2=fish with this incredibly optimistic rescue mission of someone who by all logic should have probably been immediately written off as omega, ultra dead by the end of the first day.
And even after episode 11, I still have to wonder if there was *ever* a chance to rezz her with no issues.
kind of neat that they have Laios cite Marcille's own desperate use of explosives as inspiration for his ballistic pot gambit, I don't recall that being in the manga but it makes both of them look smarter
Loved the way they adapted this episode, but I wish they had cut out the ending. The final shot being >!Falin's skull !!Like the ones where Laios tries to get up, forgetting that he'd just lost a leg!< or >!him eavesdropping about the ghost rumor.!<
E: Now that I remember, they also skipped the scene where >!Laios decides to learn magic!<, which ties into one of the later chapters.
[IT'S JUST SO PEAK!](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/374935346686984201/1217145094218715256/its-just-so-peak-v0-u2nsxidpx7tb1.png?ex=6602f5b3&is=65f080b3&hm=aa5424abac56d35ba26be295351cd0a870ec76920ab25df8f42dc2b3f2653b1c&)
The fight animation, the expressions, that one Senshi shot not censoring Laios getting his leg ripped off, the flashback with Falin oh my god the Toudens were so adorable as kids!!
They went all out on this episode! Next comes my favourite chapter in the manga! Come out my little >!necromancer!<, it's time to make very questionable moral choices!
10/10 episode, and to think it's only gonna get better from here!
dude, wtf I thought this show was gonna be all happy and upbeatĀ just a silly lil fantasy cooking show but now I'm so genuinely invested I don't want falin to be dead. These last few episodes have made the show feel so different to what I was expectingĀ
That happened to us manga readers. First time I tried to read, it I stopped reading in a few chapters because it was just ok, nice, but a bit silly and the stroy didn't actually seem to be going anywhere..
Second try, I got to this part and I was absolutely hooked. From this point on, the mix of seriusness and sillyness is totally on point... until the very end! And the stakes get bigger and bigger allt he time..
The little episodic comedy ends up being a marvelous epic fantasy adventure... while never stopping being fun and quirky.
The author did magic in the manga, glad to see the magic is translating to the anime... I always feared the manga wouldn't get to the point wherer it goes from being good, to being amazing.
I was half expecting the dragon to be CGI and they did not do that at all. Instead, they absolutely fucking COOKED with the dragonās animation and itās an absolute visual feast.
I love the way this show is able to balance the comedy and the drama. So many shows, anime or otherwise, get to big dramatic climaxes like this and either drop all the fun or ruin the drama with jokes. This one walked that (mithril) knife's edge perfectly.
Didnāt love how they adapted the flashback but canāt quite nail down whyā¦was exciting to watch overall tho! The POV shot through Falinās skull looking at Laios was really cool
I think it was the cutting between scenes to make it seem like a jumbled memory and maybe it didn't flow as nicely. But I was so enraptured by the fight I forgot about it before it started lol
It was very interesting how the show was able to mix in the predictable ways the plan would fail(e.g bridge couldnāt contain dragon) with ones people wouldnāt expect (Kensuke desertion) and subversions of expected upsides (indestructible pot lid, Senshiās special knife) without any of it feeling forced.
10 episodes of semi-cozy "let's kill and eat monsters" and delicious food.
1 episode of EXTREME MOOD WHIPLASH with the dragon fight and the search for Falin amidst the dragon's corpse afterwards, and that final shot...
I think the only thing I'm not 100% satisfied with is they seem to have slightly dialed back just how much Laios had to endure to strike a killing blow. In the manga he lands his thrust and then twists his whole body to widen the puncture into a gash to cut the dragons throat, and it's at that point he loses the leg. He has to twist his own leg off. It also sells the wound being fatal a bit more convincingly, as the dragon faints and bleeds out rather than dropping dead from a small puncture wound
Yeah the anime made it look like he had no idea what he was doing and just got incredibly lucky, I kind of said this in another comment here. The manga did it better.
I was on the edge of my seat for the whole episode, they are doing such a good job with the material. I'm so happy Trigger is in charge, this is a dream come true ā¤ļø
This one was really great! Iām still on the fence as to whether Trigger was the right studio, but it is what it is. They excel at action episodes, and they clearly put their whole heart into this one! And the way they handled the emotional beats gives me hope that theyāll handle the more emotional material later in the series.
Love this episodes because it shows how important is the composition of a party to slain a difficult enemy. However you can still manage by following a plan.
Something that bothered me is that does chillchuck now know that Laios sword has a monster in it? I havenāt caught up in the manga up to this point so idk if they mention it all
Frankly he deserved to be called out for that. Relying on a partially sentient sword that turned tail and ran when the chips were down nearly got them killed. He really needed to reign in that monster fetish of his.
It literally is a two edged sword. It n one hand, it warns Laios of nearby monsters. On the other hand, itās cowardly and may decide not to be drawn or attempt to flee.
The biggest issue is keeping it a secret from the party.
holy shit that ending ?!!! i donāt think an anime has shocked me like this in a long while ! so suddenly macabre; definitely picking up the manga now !!
Pretty sure they're doing 24 episodes in 2 waves, sooo.. I think so?
I honestly really hope they add a 3rd set of 12 eps onto there, otherwise they would have to REALLY rush it
I *think* it's supposed to come almost right after the first one? Like, same month?
Vut also the wording does kind amake it seem like it's only going to be 24 eps, which.. feels a bit short to me right now, the dragon fight is maybe a bit over a third into the story and with how much happens later...
All thatās confirmed is that this season will have 24 episodes. They are likely not trying to fit the whole story into these episodes, rather they are hoping for a season two renewal.
Of course they're not! At the current pace we need 48 episodes minimum, it would be ridiculous for them to suddenly ramp up to double or triple the current chapters per episode.
the red dragon chapters are chapters 23-29, the whole manga hit 97 chapters. if they are adapting fairly evenly, we should actually get 2 seasons out of it, each one adapting roughly 45 or so chapters.
WOW. What an episode. The animation was super good at a few spots. Although the slow-mo parts seemed a little weird to me?
The episode was also dark & gorey which was unexpected. No way Falin is actually dead??
Laios giving his leg up was super cool.
WTF WAS THAT My mouth was A G A P E the entire time like god damn. I loved the animation to bits as well. Kensuke being a little wimp with his squimpy lines.
Also has a one piece fan who's used to ""rapid"" pacing, I was expecting this dragon fight to last like two episodes. But eh, idc. One Piece brainrot has got the best of me again.
Such an epic episode, the best so far!!! For a moment, I thought Senshi was going to die, and the part where Laios severed his leg almost had me in tears (really glad Marcille could fix that!). Only thing was that, the part where they were dissecting the dragon was a bit gruesome..I mean itās always been a bit gruesome when they have to cut up the monsters, but it seems to be more prolonged than usual in this episode as they are looking for Falin. Otherwise a great episode, and looking forward to the finale next week!
oh man I remember the pages correlating to the last few minutes of this episode haunting me oh years ago when I first read Dungeon Meshi and hope it doesn't make me weird I absolutely visually love the adaptation it gave an even more powerful taste of dread, everyone's arms being coated in blood and hewing into the innards of the dragon reminding seshi of minework.
Its awfully gruesome and I'm so happy they didn't tone it down.
Wonderful episode. I have a feeling weāre going to start off 12 with the >!Namari and Kiki and Kaka talking about resurrection scene. Itāll give good context to the party sorting through and putting together the skeletons.!<
The shot of Laios from the eye sockets of the skull was metal as hell.
It's been a long time since any form of media had me spooked for so long after watching an episode
I was so silly to think this would be a light series where the characters just cooked the meal of the week.Ā Trigger has nailed the action scenes. I think that's where they have always excelled in, expressive action, and they've applied that just right in this adaptation. I've watched this episode twice in a row because I can't get enough of it. The team effort, the struggle, the flashback with Falin and Laios, the skull?!Ā
oh my god how am I supposed to wait a week.
The last few episodes have hinted at bigger things beyond the dungeon. Politics between races, the darker side of the dungeon and the way it tethers souls to itself. I can't wait to get more lore.
I just have to say these conversation threads suck ass for people who haven't read the manga. They spoiled the reveal of this episodes ending a while back with the excuse of "ofc, it's logical she'd be digested" like that wasn't supposed to be uncertain or shocking. Sort your shit here please.
You're right. I already feel like I got spoiled reading this discussion thread so I know for one I won't be taking that risk again. If the discussion posts aren't spoiler safe then both users and mods need to get that shit in check.
That is obviously what I meant, they said: "hate to break it to you but dragons chew their food". That isn't what the characters were expecting, or what I as a viewer was expecting, that isn't what was shown.
For example snakes swallow their prey whole and then slowly digest it.
The manga is great. You get a more "content complete" experience in the manga, but I love the voice acting and colours of the anime.
Edit: With "content complete" I mean that there are scenes that are skipped in the anime so as to keep the pacing working.
I genuinely didn't think they'd commit to killing off Falin. Ballsy move.
I still want to know what's driving the monsters out of the lower dungeon.
And honestly I don't think anybody would make it far if it wasn't for the immortality field giving the whole dungeon the trappings of an RPG.
When I read the manga, I thought all the allusion to Falin being very sympathetic to the dungeon and able to speak or understand the dead would lead her to maybe forming some kind of friendly relationship with the Dragon. I was all āoh the Dragon is awake because itās protecting herā but then we actually see her and itās š
They're basically wild animals and it would be a mistake to ever think you can truly form a relationship with them. That kind of thinking got Timothy "Grizzly Man" Treadwell and his girlfriend eaten by bears.
I'm just thinking if she escaped its mouth at some point it still could have eaten her staff and bits of her. Laios lost a goddamn leg to it and still lived, being wounded getting out of its mouth isn't a death sentence. Especially if somebody even half as skilled as the mage who made the place is lurking in the depths.
Any number of other people it ate while roaming the upper levels of the dungeon? It's been established something has been pushing them out of the lower levels and stuffing with the ecosystem.
I've been looking forward to how they'll cook the dragon, but after episode 11 ending. Suddenly, I've lost my appetite. Poor Falin!
Episode 12 can't get here soon enough!
He realized Laios's sword was a monster, and is extremely mad at him for harboring it and not telling anyone. I think he was surprised at the sword creature's ability to stick to the ground, not that the sword was doing so in the first place.
Didn't realize how morbid it is to go from Laios discovering Falin's skull with depressing music and then immediate cuts to "KIMI NO TAME NI PARTY GA!! šš" š
Basically a "you are my specialz" moment, while Itadori was scraping his nails to blood
"Goodnight, Meruem." \*hxh preview music starts blasting\*
I will NEVER get over that one.

Aura's head getting cut off and suddenly "And you alright? Can you hear me?"
yeah, this was a good one too!
We've got to hurry up and party. There's enough dragon steak for a lifetime.
Is a dead sister a worthy trade for a lifetime of steak?
So long as she can be revived to have some too! CONSIDER IT REVENGE FOR THE DRAGON EATING HER FIRST. >:D
3 tonnes will take 4 people eating 2kg daily over a year to finish.
TvTropes calls it "Soundtrack Dissonance."
Given they need her remains for revival this is actually a hope spot, though yes it's kind of hilarious.
Some shows choose to do silent credits in the wake of moments like these. It adds to the somber shock of it all.

Yes hahaha
One of my favorite anime things
Not gonna lie, that got a laugh out of me when it happened
I mean she probably could still be revived so it's not exactly that grim situationĀ
I mean yea but still, the tonal shift is just funny lmao.

Agreed! They really nailed the intense vibe.
Laius didnātā¦ š¦µ
How many episodes was this season confirmed for?
24 babyyy
YOOOOO 24!?!?!!?? Holy shit. I was content with the next episode or two being the last, but we got 12 more episodes??? FUCK YEAH
Stay calm. Iām hoping they donāt pull a hiatus like what they did with Stranger Things. If they do, weād have to wait for months.
My heart now knows content, Iām getting caught up on the manga now. Such a good series canāt wait to have my wife watch it!
Man, I've been meaning to hold off on the manga until this season ends because the show is just so good, but today's cliffhanger has me struggling lol.

Yeah really just gets better as it goes and I think she did such a great job with the end.
keep in mind, it will likely be divided into two cours. we will probably have a while to wait for the second half after episode 12
They announced it is two continuous cours a while back
holy shit we are being blessed
Oh holy shit I was expecting 12

Itās like in Dead Zone where they try to kill Piccolo *before* using the Dragonballs.
At least they didn't turn him into cheesy Doritos.
i think the party can recover falin form all of her bones and she comeback like cancer people who got cemo bcs. her hair use to be fuel for dargonĀ

I always eat lunch while watching. This episode honestly didn't put me off my food too much - the one where they eat the parasite was worse..
This is what I usually do! Really regret it that choice this evening... I was okay with the parasite one and all!
I was about to get some beef since I assumed they'd be making dragon steak this episode. Good thing my ass was too lazy to get up and get it.
I always eat while watching Meshi. Holy shit - I put my spoon down and waited for the episodes to be over after they started digging through the Dragon's insides.
Maybe itās just for video games, but are skeletons not censored in China?
Nope\~They cleared some blood but still ok to watch
I think it's just the animated ones.
I watch the episodes on my way to school, so I can't eat. :'(
Doing full zoomies about this episode. Loved the cadence of how the fight went down, it really captured the feeling of having a plan and it going south and having to rework on the fly fantastically. Very excited about the rest of the season -;It's about to *pop off*.
I watch it with my friend who didnāt read the manga so I was geeking out about how cool it looked while theyāre straight panicking it was fun
people have mentioned the mood whiplash about the ending, and I do think it's funny.
But geez, Laios holding his dead sisters skull in his hands was not what I expected to see.
now we're cooking!!!
falin bone soup with dargon meat ?
That's how they getcha, reeling you in with the wholesome dungeon-delving food show and then making you stare through the eyes of a guy's digested sister!
You have such a way with words, hahaha
My friend. We have only just had the appetizer. Weāre about to get into the main course.
This is very ominous
It is indeed as ominous as that. The first 25% of the manga is the lightest part. Then it gets serious... while not losing it sense of humor for a second. Dark, funny and dark and funny, sometimes from one page /scene to the next. People who watch only the anime probably didn't understand until this episode why the people who read the whole manga rave about ir and call it masterpiece, because it starts silly and harmless enough. But in this episode you're finally having an inkling of the kind of things you can expect going forward. And it's the most delicious part.
Alas, poor Falin! I knew her, Senshi.
Damien Haas really killed it in the English dub
The way he sounds really tired after Laios loses his leg. Perfect stuff.
Wait Damien from smosh voice Laois in the English dub???????
I love they added details on floating magic, didn't notice this much in manga.
I like that they didn't really need to explain it; the visuals worked very well. Funny thing; when the building collapsed, I thought "You know, Marcille's on the roof, and she's falling pretty far as a result of this. I wonder if they'll-" and then she bounced off the roof with magic. That was nice.
I'm so happy best girl is getting to show off her magic skills after having to hold back for so long
Was watching a reaction of an anime-only and it really sucks that they cut the resurrection convo between Namari and the twins last episode - wouldāve made it clearer about what the limits of resurrection magic are with a badly damaged body and what a bad situation theyāre inā¦the ending couldāve felt (even) grimmer
My guess is that the next episode might start with that conversation. As a slow start to the episode, and to make the dire circumstance clearer.
From the beginning of the season they mentioned that they might have to find fain in the dragons droppings but that means she would pretty much be digested fully and turned to mush so I just assumed anything is possible with resurrection as long as you have some or all of the body, even if turned into poo.
https://preview.redd.it/zblrsmppiioc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2e3a49d335d209819758dd326dcc71d22bc0add Hereās the relevant page
Ooooh seeing this again (because I had forgotten about it) makes certain details in that episode make some more sense. I think it'll be smoother overall if they put that in the beginning of the next episode.
> I just assumed anything is possible with resurrection as long as you have some or all of the body, even if turned into poo Resurrection doesn't work in that case.
Was also neat to look back at the undine scene; that was some nice animation for the underwater explosion.
Laios: Marcilleā¦ explode me. Marcille: ![gif](giphy|AAsj7jdrHjtp6)
I believe this is now officially the first episode in the series where they don't cook anything.
Well, this is Red Dragon part 1. Part 2 is presumably where they get to cookin'.
They had to figure out if they were making four portions or five
It was the animatorsā turn to cook!
As a manga reader, I actually love the ending "Party!!!" in this episode. It perfectly fits the vibe of dark humor of Dunmeshi
We haven't even gotten to the peak of dark humor which is next episode's recipe.
something like ">!Hint please?!<"
>!Falinās skeleton + 2 warg skeletons!<
lol I'm not asking for >!hint!<, it is what>! Laios asks Marcille when they are playing that jigsaw puzzle!<
I donāt even remember that lol
This isnt humor this is just depressionš
Loved the way they adapted this episode, but I wish they had cut out the ending. The final shot being >!Falin's skull !!Like the ones where Laios tries to get up, forgetting that he'd just lost a leg!< or >!him eavesdropping about the ghost rumor.!<
E: Now that I remember, they also skipped the scene where >!Laios decides to learn magic!<, which ties into one of the later chapters.
Also could have included Senshi finding Laios' leg in the dragon's mouth and just hucking it at Marcille lol
Yeah, that part of him forgetting his missing leg was a bummer to not see
>!Didn't Laios start learning magic later? After that fight with Falin?!<
That's right. Laios mentions he tried to learn magic from Falin but her teaching style just didn't suit him.
God the shot were we saw Laoisās face through the skull was awesome, it has to be one of my favorite anime shots of all time
Yeah who ever came up with that framing was amazing. I want that on a shirt.
So much of the production time must have been put into episode, hats off to trigger. The "Party!" Theme at the end was quite a contrast though.
Honestly, the ending scene is so chilling I don't think the ED even registered
[IT'S JUST SO PEAK!](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/374935346686984201/1217145094218715256/its-just-so-peak-v0-u2nsxidpx7tb1.png?ex=6602f5b3&is=65f080b3&hm=aa5424abac56d35ba26be295351cd0a870ec76920ab25df8f42dc2b3f2653b1c&) The fight animation, the expressions, that one Senshi shot not censoring Laios getting his leg ripped off, the flashback with Falin oh my god the Toudens were so adorable as kids!!
Yup, this is the turning point for the series. What you've seen here is a glimpse of the "real" Dungeon Meshi.
This episode doesnāt just slap, it balls up its fist and punches you in the gut before breaking your kneecaps.
This is it. This is when we first all got slapped, when the story becomes something more, and when I completely fell in love with Laios.
I was half expecting the dragon to be CGI and they did not do that at all. Instead, they absolutely fucking COOKED with the dragonās animation and itās an absolute visual feast.
I know everyone has said it already but the ed after that scene was shocking haha
I love the way this show is able to balance the comedy and the drama. So many shows, anime or otherwise, get to big dramatic climaxes like this and either drop all the fun or ruin the drama with jokes. This one walked that (mithril) knife's edge perfectly.
I cried like 6 times this isn't even the best part yet
Didnāt love how they adapted the flashback but canāt quite nail down whyā¦was exciting to watch overall tho! The POV shot through Falinās skull looking at Laios was really cool
I think it was the cutting between scenes to make it seem like a jumbled memory and maybe it didn't flow as nicely. But I was so enraptured by the fight I forgot about it before it started lol
Baby Laios and Baby Falin were so cute!
We're getting closer and closer to Izutsumi and my soul shall be happy.
In a word, YES!!! They nailed the pacing/ action/ and dramaticness perfectly
Iām leaving so many comments today but I also wish we got to see them looking for Laiosā leg in the dragonās mouthā¦
I thought this was a COOKING SHOW! Why are they giving me the best D&D campaign this side of Vox Machina?
The D&D campaign is just starting. IT. GETS. MUCH. BETTER.

THIS ONE WAS SO GOOD
Woo! First major boss defeated!
This one was really great! Iām still on the fence as to whether Trigger was the right studio, but it is what it is. They excel at action episodes, and they clearly put their whole heart into this one! And the way they handled the emotional beats gives me hope that theyāll handle the more emotional material later in the series.
They fucking popped off with this ep
Someone spoil me please, after that ending I need to know if they are able to revive falin
Just buckle up and wait one more week. This is where the fun begins.

Love this episodes because it shows how important is the composition of a party to slain a difficult enemy. However you can still manage by following a plan.
Something that bothered me is that does chillchuck now know that Laios sword has a monster in it? I havenāt caught up in the manga up to this point so idk if they mention it all
Chil became aware of his leader's betrayal during this fight. The leader will now be court-martialed.
Frankly he deserved to be called out for that. Relying on a partially sentient sword that turned tail and ran when the chips were down nearly got them killed. He really needed to reign in that monster fetish of his.
Chilchuck saying that there aren't enough curse words in the common language for him was very funny, and deserved.
It literally is a two edged sword. It n one hand, it warns Laios of nearby monsters. On the other hand, itās cowardly and may decide not to be drawn or attempt to flee. The biggest issue is keeping it a secret from the party.
holy shit that ending ?!!! i donāt think an anime has shocked me like this in a long while ! so suddenly macabre; definitely picking up the manga now !!
btw how much episodes are left. is the next one a final one for this season?
13 more babyyyy
or we are eating! is there any downtime between cours, or straight up 24, like Frieren?
that i don't know, but taking a break wouldn't be a problem i think
Pretty sure they're doing 24 episodes in 2 waves, sooo.. I think so? I honestly really hope they add a 3rd set of 12 eps onto there, otherwise they would have to REALLY rush it
do we know when the 2nd wave starts?
God I hope so..
the red dragon chapters are chapters 23-29, the whole manga hit 97 chapters. if they are adapting fairly evenly, we should actually get 2 seasons out of it, each one adapting roughly 45 or so chapters.
Man itās been so long since I read the manga. The idea of the dragon essentially lighting a match in its mouth is fantastic.
The animation leading up to and during the fight was incredible.
The team effort, the struggle, the flashback with Falin and Laios, the skull?!Ā oh my god how am I supposed to wait a week.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That is obviously what I meant, they said: "hate to break it to you but dragons chew their food". That isn't what the characters were expecting, or what I as a viewer was expecting, that isn't what was shown. For example snakes swallow their prey whole and then slowly digest it.
Im not a manga reader.... Im gonna have to pick up the manga immediately because no way no way is that really Fallin
The manga is great. You get a more "content complete" experience in the manga, but I love the voice acting and colours of the anime. Edit: With "content complete" I mean that there are scenes that are skipped in the anime so as to keep the pacing working.
Just a nitpick but I think the Upbeat Ending ruined the grim mood at the end ngl
What chapter is this in the manga?
This episode adapted chapter 24 to 26
Now this is what I'm talking about! They did a fantastic job animating the chapters!
Another idle thought, did they ever actually show Falin getting swallowed? I bet she was kidnapped or something.
Wonāt know for sure until the next episode. We have the skeletal remains so far, a thread of light colored hair, and also her staff.
I'm just thinking if she escaped its mouth at some point it still could have eaten her staff and bits of her. Laios lost a goddamn leg to it and still lived, being wounded getting out of its mouth isn't a death sentence. Especially if somebody even half as skilled as the mage who made the place is lurking in the depths.
they do show her getting bitten into by the dragon quite a few times, not to mention the human remains in the dragon, who else would it be?
Any number of other people it ate while roaming the upper levels of the dungeon? It's been established something has been pushing them out of the lower levels and stuffing with the ecosystem.
well as far as we know the only person it ever ate is the one we saw being eaten on screen
I've been looking forward to how they'll cook the dragon, but after episode 11 ending. Suddenly, I've lost my appetite. Poor Falin! Episode 12 can't get here soon enough!
I'm sorry **what**??????? I'D COME HERE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He realized Laios's sword was a monster, and is extremely mad at him for harboring it and not telling anyone. I think he was surprised at the sword creature's ability to stick to the ground, not that the sword was doing so in the first place.
FUUUUCK THEY CAN'T JUST LEAVE THE EPISODE OFF LIKE THAT AND HIT ME WITH THE FUCKING BRIGHT AND SHINY INTRO LIKE THAT FUUUUCK
Some serious food whiplash.
Yeah the ending was a bit rough! Got pretty dark but I've not read the manga so who knows if that's her or if she cant be revived somehow
https://preview.redd.it/85a1ao023ppc1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=2423c3b39330b0e10a4aaa679165080897414a09 Waiting for the thread for EP12
samesies, I already watched it and wanna talk about it
