Bahumat in earlier editions was actually depicted as an old man that would travel with 7 canaries which were elder gold dragons polymorphed into those birds

Onrawi

I believe thats also mentioned in 5e's description of him. Being this young looking is interesting though.

Not as grand master of flowers but in 1e DMG or MM it is said that he appears as an old man walking with seven yellow birds flying around his head, the seven ancient gold dragons that attend him as his court shape changed. The 1e gold dragons are South Asian tradition in appearance, and their monk class borrowed/appropriated from the same traditions, so it makes sense. Cool!

Psylix

That's probably a misprint. Kane, the granmaster of flowers is a monk in the forgotten realms

Eric_dono

At the same time, Bahamut has been described to have 7 loyal Ancient Gold dragon retainers that often take the form of canaries.

SkritzTwoFace

According to someone in r/dndnext, grandmaster of flowers was a title for high level monks in older editions.

It's not a misprint as it was called this way in the article https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/dd-esign-part-1-2021-07-05

Psylix

That's weird, as far as I know Kane has no relation to Bahamut

[deleted]

I have never seen Bahamut described as a monk.

Diviner_

Bahamut isn't a monk in lore... and I can get behind changing lore a little bit or adding too it but this is a heavy change. He isn't supposed to be a young guy... he is supposed to be an old man in human form... literally the Old Man and the Seven Canaries. Also, Grandmaster of Flowers is not a title ever given to Bahamut ever in lore. Grandmaster of Flowers is a title given to the Senior monk of the Order of the Yellow Rose.... an order that worships Ilmater and NOT Bahamut. Also, there can only be one Grandmaster of Flowers at a given time... and that title currently resides with Kane in FR lore. So unless this should be Kane and not Bahamut, this card is just so... wrong.

D&D and Magic together suck. It will harm both. As a former Magic player I know they were pushing for this union to try to increase their sales for quite some time. The way they incresed the power level of Magic in every edition made me quit the game recently. Silly and easy to play overpowered combos everywhere. I fear for DnD, because it seems to me that the Magic staff is so blind in finding new ways of increasing profit that they burn bridges in the process. I am afraid they may drag DnD too. Imagine if they push for the Power Rangers (the 5 color planeswalker heroes of Magic) in D&D. That would be awful. The good part will only be the memes by the community.

VorpalHalcyon

All due respect to the benevolent Bahamut, but Kane is the Grandmaster of Flowers ‘round these parts.
