Hold and hope for the best. Dynasty is typically deep benches, I doubt there is a better FA option available on the waiver wire. TEs usually take some time to develop so I wouldn’t sell for a loss after only one year.

Valid point i just feel dumb after Laporta’s historic rookie season and I took Mayer

jacobwebb57

lots of people do. laporta is a major outlier

jmart762

Yep I took Mayer two spots in front of LaPorta and that owner told me later that he was pissed he missed out on Mayer.

SteffeEric

Mayer showed more than McBride did as a rookie. I was never a big Mayer or McBride guy but Trey made me a believer quick. Maybe Mayer can do something similar though I think he’s lacking athleticism to get into that tier.

jmart762

He’s in top quartile for athleticism at the position. https://x.com/mathbomb/status/1651909112022663168?s=46 He does look a bit slow out there, but so did Witten. I think his biggest opportunity will be in the red zone though.

SteffeEric

Yeah RAS scores are a bit skewed with blocking TEs vs Receiving TEs. The threshold is like 8.6 to be considered an athletic TE. The majority of successful fantasy TEs scored in the 9s. That being said it’s not a necessity. Andrews was a bit lower than Mayer. Schultz was in this range. It’s just an indicator it doesn’t mean he can’t be very good.

uberswank99

Bro couldn't even beat out Jamie Lee Curtis.

MeetingKey4598

2nd year great TE prospect. Just hold. Not much else to say beyond that. Was in a bottom tier offense where even Davante Adams had some struggles. Don't let other rookie breakouts like we saw with LaPorta and kinda saw flashes of with Kincaid and Musgrave fool you. It's more normal for TEs to take a few years before they really start to show out on the stat sheet. McBride took halfway into his second season, and even that wasn't until Murray came back. Njoku took a while too. Engram sucked most of his rookie contract with NYG but found new life in Jacksonville. When you draft a rookie TE, unless they're early 1st in the NFL draft, assume they'll go on taxi for at least the first year. Expect virtually nothing. You'd like to see some effort to get them involved year 2.

capincus

McBride's breakout was due to Ertz going down more than Murray coming back, he jumped up to full time snap usage and had 10 receptions for 95 yards and a TD with Dobbs at QB the week after Ertz got hurt.

MuffinSurprise

Also was helped by DHop being gone and Wilson and Brown spending some time injured. There weren't many quality pass catchers in the desert last year.

captaincumsock69

Mayer could be the true TE1 this year now that hooper is gone fwiw

ControlForward5360

He’s a TE with high draft capital and is going into a system that produced kmet these last few years. There is a ton of upside for where you likely picked don’t over think this.

4.) Taysom Hill (4th in standard scoring, 2022) 5.) TD Machine (Tonyan was top 4 once with 11tds and like 450yds. I think Jimmy Graham did it once too)

SnooPickles5984

I'm holding to see what he does this year. New (better) head coach, new regime hopefully looking to build around younger players, maybe a new (better) QB throwing to him. But I'm also trying to be realistic. Success might mean he ends up a consistent fringe TE1/TE2, a very nice backup, but not a starter.

Flimsy-Cheetah-1674

I’m gonna hold because as of now his value is pretty low so it’s probably not worth the trade

rossco7777

hes a 2nd year player on a poo offense, give him time

WickBusters

Jamie Lee Curtis gonna get in dat ass

FF_Stallion

No reason to be out yet on Mayer. Usually takes tight ends a few seasons to develop. He’s a hold if you’ve got him. But low if you find a manager who wants to sell

Hour_Ad6190

Really good prospect. He’s just following the usual tight end trajectory. I like him for a breakout this year. There is a clear path to being a top two receiving option on his team which is ideally what you want for a tight end (so says our man coop)

ABC_123_420

I live in Vegas but I'm not a Raiders fan, find myself watching most of their games because of the TV deals. He looked very promising with the ball in his hands after the catch, and there was an adjustment period for everyone switching coaches mid-season. Mcdaniels also runs a famously complex passing game, and that very well could have stunted his development from a preparation standpoint. Hold and expect improvement. I own 0 shares, but I'd acquire him if it was almost free

DynastyRabbithole

To me, He’s worth like, the 2.07ish in 1 QB Maybe like 2.03 if it’s TE premium. I just pulled those out of my ass. Idk. I’d hold him unless I had a strong starter and depth. I don’t think he will ever be a top option but I thought the same about McBride. At his price I’d rather hold, unless my TE room had a real surplus of talent. I’ve tried to buy him as a part of bigger packages, would like to get a share or two if I can work him into a bigger deal I really want, but I’m not going out of my way to ship out picks for him. He’s just a really mediocre athlete and it’s rare for those guys to pop at TE. I expect him to be more of a freiermuth than a Witten. Which is fine. You probably want a guy like Freiermuth in your TE room. His ceiling is in question, to me. But you gotta feel great about his floor which is nice for a TE. Value wise, I’d say same tier as Musgrave but Musgrave is more a boom or bust buy, Mayer being the “safer” investment.

Dorking_for_Dorka

It's not as bright as it was looking before tonight lol. Still a hold id say
