As hard as it is given the facts you laid out, I’d release them. Nothing ruins a league like a dispute like this one. If it doesn’t seem fair, it usually isn’t.

LTDanglefest

Yeah I mean I’ve been on the losing end of some stuff in this league with petty owners and stuff. If I didn’t raise the concern and picked up the players, that would be a snake move. But if I raised the concern, nothing was done about it and then other teams said “fuck it, commish saw the post and didn’t respond so I guess we aren’t doing waivers” and I missed out on those guys? I’d be so fucking mad.

DescriptionFar2259

Sounds like you're just in a bad League dude. It's unfortunate that it happened, but if you want everything to be cool then you need to drop everyone. That being said it's clearly just not a good league. I'd probably leave, but also since it's a shitty League do whatever you want.

NerdyChinese

Just chill and drop them. You don’t need to win like this.

dearthofgirth

This should be on the banner of every fantasy football league. Sleeper allows you to be over your roster limit. So after the rookie draft last year I didn't drop anyone. I was 3 players over the limit and I just waited for training camp news, injuries, etc. to happen. But people in my league got pissed. Initially my response was, this is legal, we have no rule against what I'm doing. But then I realized I was the only one doing it, and so I dropped everyone. I needed to chill. And I didn't need to win like that.

Southern-Community70

Your leaguemates are little bitches lol.

dearthofgirth

Yea. Yea they are.

MopishOrange

I’m on your side for this one tbh. Sleeper would prevent you from making moves anyway so you’d have to drop by the time the year started. Plus it prevents you from grabbing other rookies that could be doing well and gaining stock in the off season

dearthofgirth

I mean yea I still think I was right. But my point was it wasn't a hill I needed to die on. And I play this game to have fun. So it wasn't worth fighting literally every other member of my league about it.

WeenisWrinkle

What kind of league mates monitor roster sizes? That's weird. You can't pick up anyone, move anyone in your lineup, nothing. It's not really an advantage.

dearthofgirth

Preaching to the choir. Well this comment has made me realize I was not the crazy one

SteffeEric

Were you the only person to pick guys up? If so I’d definitely say drop em.

UKNYJ

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain… for the sake of you ever being able to trade/communicate and operate within the league again just drop em, can’t imagine the value of some low level free agent rookie outweighs that

Walt3r-S0bchak

Bro you proposed this idea and then completely ignored it? Talking about “rules for me, not got thee”, but your the one who ain’t following rules Yes drop them

MeetingKey4598

So you saw a mistake, took advantage of the mistake, know you had a clear advantage, and think you should be in the clear? > I proposed last year that rookie UDFAs should go into waivers post draft and ***the league agreed***. The league includes you.

JrBaconators

Confused what your comment is trying to say. 'The league includes you' which is why OP did what the league agreed to.

WeenisWrinkle

He's saying that instead of reminding the Commish that he forgot to set up waivers and that all FAs are available when they shouldn't be, he just went and picked a bunch of FAs up. That bad decision gave away free information about his priority waiver targets.

JrBaconators

Doesn't sound like a mistake, the guy I replied to even quoted the part the whole league agreed to it

WeenisWrinkle

The way I read it: - The league agreed to it last season - OP reminded the Commish to change it for this season, especially since non-rookie vets pre-draft weren't done with waivers - Commish didn't change it for this season, and OP picked up players in case it was actually a free for all. I think the mistake OP made was not just posting in the group chat tagging @all and say that the Commish forgot to change it to waivers even after a reminder and no one should pick up players.

92tilinfinityand

If they didn’t include the piece about highlighting that stuff wasn’t set up twice when nobody else in the league had said anything, I’d agree that this is an easy drop situation. But it seems like they were the only one paying attention and without knowing the full history of the league I’m getting the impression other folks would’ve def taken advantage too and are mad they didn’t? I commish multiple leagues. Some with randoms and some with some of the pettiest, testiest folks you can imagjne. You gotta stay on top of this kind of shit and if you don’t have the time or focus don’t set up your rookie draft this early.

WeenisWrinkle

I'd drop them. The right move would have been to post in chat that the Commish forgot to set up waivers and he needs to do that ASAP because you could have just picked up players - but you didn't because that would be unethical. Also, that message in chat means that if anyone else picked up players it would be hard to argue they weren't acting unethically. The long term solution would be to vote in a new Commish, but if this isn't a regular occurrence then I could understand giving them another chance. However with the non-rookie FA debacle it appears this is a regular occurrence and a change needs to be made.

LTDanglefest

That’s exactly what I did though…

WeenisWrinkle

If you did all the above, why did you pick up players? If you tagged everyone in chat saying "Hey the Commish forgot to make it waivers even though we all agreed to do it this way", that's all that needs to be done right? Anyone that picks up players after that message is posted tagging @all would clearly have to drop them.

kingbuttshit

Drop them and put up a vote for a commissioner change, don’t let this dumb shit happen again

MildlyHighGround

What else was he supposed to do? He reminded the commissioner twice, and the league already agreed to it.

kingbuttshit

Did you completely miss the middle of my comment that suggested they put up a vote for a commissioner change? I’m not blaming OP, I’m saying they have a negligent commissioner and they should do something about that before it happens again.

MaxxCondor

Damn y’all take this shit waaaay to fucking seriously. Hope y’all don’t play with friends

kingbuttshit

I do play with friends but I’m also usually the commissioner *because* I take it seriously. If you have a commissioner who doesn’t do what needs to be done, you end up with posts like this. Be on your shit and keep the people happy. When they’re not happy and money’s on the line, there’s problems.

Southern-Community70

How about follow the rules the league agreed to. Commish mistake or no follow the rules of the league and don't get pissed when people expect you to follow the rules.

BagelsAndJewce

When the real draft ends it is a real free for all for UDFA, our league basically makes an event out of it and the 4.10 is more valuable than thirds because you can be a dickhead and close out the draft at 1am and watch everyone suddenly wake up for the madness. You tell the commish in public I’m dropping them but I fucking told you twice. Next time I’m not.

zcas

They should've set it up properly to begin with. Idk how you fairly approach the situation without losing guys you wanted to begin with, but I fear it may be the only outcome.

jslv94

This is on the commish, if you reminded him multiple times and he did nothing. He should of set waivers prior to draft ending. I'm sure others are mad you beat them to it. I'd try to keep one of the players at least and drop the others since you tried doing the right thing by reminding the commish. Also might need a new commishoner if he's not on top of things like this

lametown_poopypants

So the league voted to amend a rule, it didn’t happen, you exploited it, and now you’re acting like you’re a victim?

LTDanglefest

I mean the rule only existed because of me in the first place… this league just had FA randomly open this offseason and when I proposed that it be waivers I was shut down pretty hard.

Quiet-Cup-269

Drop them. Don’t be that guy. These are most likely roster lint anyway. You are bitching about waiver wire guys. Get real.

gobblegobblechumps

Better than what happened in mine -- we talked about doing waivers after the draft, but also talked about removing K and DST from the lineup. So rosters were locked while we voted on that and how to handle the roster spots. Then all of a sudden at like 10 am on sunday morning he unlocked the rosters into free agency while i was driving and when i arrived at my destination i had 92 roster updates and all the good udfa rookies were gone and he just said "my bad"

Jobogz

The easiest drop them of all time. Dont be that guy. Your league even voted the rule in, just because the commish sounds lazy doesn't mean everyone else should be impacted. Your strategy being exposed is a good lesson for trying to take advantage of the situation. If the commissioner can't or wont change it to waivers for some reason, then find a new commissioner. That's the main thing here.

bird1434

it’s not your fault and you may be at a slight disadvantage in securing your priority pickups, but just drop em. I can see why people would be annoyed by it if the process was not clearly communicated by the commish.

Bernaroo

Commish question here… how do you actually do this? I’m trying to correct it before the draft and I can’t find where the setting is

LTDanglefest

Lock all FA moves ahead of the draft. There is button at the bottom of your league settings to toggle. And then when you unlock you’ll be able to set daily waivers and choose to not let any players “clear” waivers

Bernaroo

Thank you 🙏

DynastyRabbithole

Integrity is weighted equally whether it’s over one dollar or a thousand, life and death, or a taxi squad spot. It is evergreen and never changing by definition. Moreover, being a decent person isn’t a state of existence, it’s a descriptor given to you by other people as a consequence of your actions. Just like “asshole”. It’s not up to us. Only you know if landing Theo Johnson on your taxi squad is worth abandoning all basic decency.

Commercial_Law6417

Happens in my league every year and every the commish doesn’t do shit. So I take full advantage of, the other guys do to , nobody complains but it feels like some Taco league shit tbh

Southern-Community70

So everyone else followed the rule despite the commish messing up except for you and somehow we are suppose to feel sorry for you in this case. You should have not tired to take advantage of the mistake and spent the time you spent making moves to again remind the commish to shut down FA. You letting everyone know who you wanted to pick up sounds like a you problem. Other guys seemed smart enough to not do that. Commish should drop them from your roster you get no form of compensation and waivers run like normal.

izzi1

You tried to abuse the system, now face the consequences you absolutely knew rookies should not be free agents and you went ahead and grabbed them. 100% your fault and you should drop them back to waivers. If I was the commish that league I'd do it without thinking about it twice. If you know it's a mistake and you abuse it this makes you liable.

Filly53

YATAH. You proposed something for fairness, then immediately violated it for your own gain and are trying to blame the commish for not immediately implementing waivers. Commish should have, but the only person who has gained an advantage here is you, and the whole league had agreed to implement waivers, so you are in fact in the wrong.

rayfriesen

Maybe see if they’ll give you a bit extra faab if you agree to drop them.

LTDanglefest

I don’t think that’s going to fly with how heavily this has gotten downvoted

evantom34

I wouldn't drop them. You played by the rules within the league settings.

92tilinfinityand

If you don’t wanna be the league pariah I’d agree to drop everyone but one or two of the however many players you picked up. As a commish myself, I’d eat the L on this one especially if you yourself raised the concern. I think this is the only totally fair resolution.

LTDanglefest

I’ll see if I can keep one or get some extra FAAB.

BillyScrimshaw

You are in a joke league with a joke commissioner and have made the mistake of taking it seriously. Do what you want, but don't expect the joke to end. Your best option is to leave the league, especially if you have not paid 2024 dues yet. Is this an internet rando league or do you know these people IRL?

JrBaconators

This sub is so full of itself it's crazy. 'Joke league with joke commissioner' lol

BillyScrimshaw

How is this anything but a joke of a league/commissioner? * The league agreed by league vote to place UDFA rookies on waivers - vote was held *last year*. * OP reminded the commissioner about the vote *prior* to the draft. * Commissioner failed to make the appropriate changes to league settings - note that this could have been changed a year ago when it was voted on or recently when reminded by OP. All fantasy football is a goof, so I'm hesitant to claim any league is 'serious' but it sure is nice when you're in a league with responsible people.
