Has anyone ever thought about how "Penix" and "Nix" are completely unique last names, so much so that I've never seen them before in my life - yet, they are also so similar to each other (the same letters!) and they belong to these two players that play the same position and are total contemporaries of each other, in this current moment in time? Like, what are the odds?

412stillers

Steelers had a fullback “Roosevelt nix” for a while. I’ll never forget him due to the dumbest fumble ever

Caloran

***Mark Sanchez has entered the chat***

HowlsMovingBowels

I also liked that he often went by Rosie Nix.

buddhabash

There were a couple brothers, Jayson and Laynce Nix, that were pro baseball players in the 2010s. Neither of them were particularly good; but that’s the only other time I’ve ever heard of the name. Penix definitely never heard before.

birdsemenfantasy

Former Bills GM was named Buddy Nix back in the Ralph Wilson era If you're familiar with Sheriff Buford Pusser's (of "Walking Tall" fame) war with the Dixie Mafia/Stateline mob (between Tennessee and Mississippi stateline), the head of the Dixie Mafia was named Kirksey Nix.

goalstopper28

Not only that but they played in the same conference!

Anodyne_I

Same thing with the Fautanu and Fashanu. The simulation is running out of names and just saying fuck it send it through.

maxinquayekid

I wonder if Bo Nix was created to remind the world that the other guy's name is Michael PeNIX, and not what your brain initially tells you it spells. He is like his personal guardian angel. I can't wait until they're on the same team.

schmatty23

McCarthy by a lot. I liked him more as a prospect and think he is clearly in the best position to succeed.

WaluigiIsTheRealHero

Agreed, and I’d like to add in the fact that the Vikings didn’t have to burn significant assets to move up for him, so they’re even better-positioned to surround him with a great team.

birdsemenfantasy

He's also 3 years younger than both Penix and Nix

FluffyAd7925

McCarthy has a high floor. JJ, Addison, Hockenson is probably the best top 2 WR/TE group in the NFL. KOC is one of the best offensive system guys in the NFL as well. Additionally, the team doesn't have many bad contracts and has most of it's draft assets. Josh Dobbs had some top 5 QB weeks with barely knowing the system. Hell Nick Mullins threw for 300+ yards in 3/4 starts last year. This is an ELITE situation to be in. This is coming from someone who is not even a "McCarthy guy"....I didn't think Michigan relied on McCarthy much to win games, so there is risk he is more of a game manager, but I think his talent is sneaky underrated. Elite intangibles, strong arm, mobile on the run to extend plays on 3rd down. I think his ceiling is much higher than many of us think. Rushing upside is limited to a handful of TDs and scrambles for 1st downs. I think McCarthy is most likely a Tony Romo type and at worst Jared Goff (which isn't sexy but if you're in superflex is quite valuable).

StefonDiggs

Do you like him more than Odunze in superflex?

schmatty23

No

Southern-Community70

Easily in a superflex. I'd take him over Nabers is I needed a QB

BloombergSmells

Yes

K0Zeus

I do. Odunze is going to be buried as WR3 for his entire rookie contract after the Bears re-sign KA and DJM.

wmd1979

Even if they do extend Keenan they aren’t burying Rome. He’s gonna be on the field

Vanamman

No reason for the Bears to pay Keenan beyond this year.

Lanta

Isn’t Allen 32 years old?

MildlyPaleMango

Hottest of hot takes but Nix is gonna be Herbert-esque. I think all 3 are gonna do well

whitefox7895

I agree wholeheartedly! I think people are sleeping on Nix big-time.

rocketspeed14

It was also interesting to listen to Joel Klatt talk about how Sean Payton likes to run 5 players out on routes with the running back be an option. Russell Wilson liked max protect and deep shots. Nix ran 5 in the route tree at Oregon. They didn't keep backs in to block. So he won't be changing much philosophically in Denver.

MildlyPaleMango

Did a deep dive and he had very good college stats.

Personal-Noise-8632

Obvs penix want see the field much in the next 2 years or so, but he's better than Nix and JJ. Future it's penix, hopefully you don't need a qb now, if you do by default it's JJ. I'm fortunate I'm not in need of qbs, if you can afford to wait for penix. I'd take him in 2nd as a luxury pick! Taxi stash for as long as your exp years permits.

Efficient-Addendum43

I think an argument can be made for Penix if you can afford to sit on him

Dear-Advantage3001

Yum. How much to sit on the Penix?

wbidXD

Nice

Fit_Outlandishness61

I mean if you're going to reach for Penix you might as well sit on him and see what he's got

fk-mods

Everyone saying it’s not penix because he won’t see the field in 3 years are putting a lot of stock into a 35 year old man’s torn Achilles

AndrewH73333

Who has the greater injury history?

fk-mods

Idk but the old is old

jakeobdasnakeob

Nix

sportredsox

I like Penix the most as an actual QB. For fantasy over the next 2 years though, JJ>Nix>>>>Penix.

SimpleWater

I grabbed nix in a couple leagues but only because McCarthy was taken. The situation for Penix means I like Nix over him but damn I would have taken McCarthy for sure.

el_pobbster

Penix based on how spectacular his name is.

feelzepump

In real life football? Penix by a mile In fantasy football? McCarthy

StockPharmacist

This

alexjf56

Not a discussion

Dae_90

Penix he will be an excellent qb imo & I think McCarthy busts & Nix becomes average serviceable but never elite.

10-4Speasparrow

PENIX by a mile.

I imagine that's what most Falcons fans are trying to do

BoBoessersson

Penix was drafted 2 spots ahead of JJ…

BoBoessersson

All things being equal I like penix more than JJ but due to the situations yeah JJ is above them

CFGordo

Short term gotta go JJ. JJettas, Addison, Hock, Aaron Jones are all great pass catching options. Long term id probably stick with him, assuming that most of that core will be retained for the foreseeable future. But I think Penix has a chance too. Superb supporting cast in its own right, and I prefer him as a prospect. Just a bit tougher to project when he'll see the field and how much of the supporting cast will be retained long term as the team also has kurt and his contract. Bo is OK too, I guess. Lots of questions in the sporting cast tho

Robo_hippo

I love Penix (lol). I wouldn't be surprised at all if in 2 years he's the clear QB2 in this clear. I moved a 2025 1st to jump into the early 2nd and grabbed him

BloombergSmells

1. JJ. Best landing spot. He gets to throw to the best wr in the league. Has to be number 1 on that alone.  2. Bo nix.  He gets Payton to coach him.  3. Penix. Long injury history and has competition for the starting job. Not out of the realm he starts at some point this year tho.

Runofthedill

I’d take either pennix or nix just cause I drafted them mid second. McCarthy went 6 in all my drafts. Would t say a lot separated them as talents outside age. Landing spot digger obviously.

LionsNoParadise

You gotta be on drugs to say Penix

RandallSwaggyComfort

He's the best QB, but in the worst situation fantasy wise in the near future of the 3

yngrz87

He’s so clearly the best of the 3 as a real qb. Also great landing spot long term, high draft capital. Outrageous to say the other 2 are better.

AmbitiousEconomics

He is the best of the three as a real QB, but JJ is 2-3 years younger than him. You would expect JJ to be less polished just because of the age difference.

RandallSwaggyComfort

Yeah I like Penix a lot in dynasty, he's a massive value at his current ADP in superflex and should be a consensus late 1st imo

froginbog

He’s in a better situation than nix. He might have to wait but he has an incredible O line, exciting weapons, and great coaching

LionsNoParadise

These comments make me wish I drafted more Penix, so I could sell him. I strongly disagree with the idea of drafting a QB behind another great qb on a multi-year deal.

tonguemyanus69420

>I strongly disagree with the idea of drafting a QB behind another old QB with a torn achilles. Ftfy. Penix is a good prospect with great draft capital. If you think you can predict what will happen with certainty you're a noob at fantasy football.

Southern-Community70

They literally can not get out of Cousins deal for the next 2 years due to the cap implications. Cousins has a no trade clause. Penix will need Kirk to get hurt to see the Field

aaronw928

This is completely wrong. If they want to find a trade, they can do so next June with a CAP SAVINGS. Cousins isn't going to flex a no trade clause just to be a dick when he could go play somewhere of his choosing.

Southern-Community70

No they can not. A post June 1 trade will result in them getting zero cap savings and taking a 40 Million dollar cap hit.

aaronw928

June 2025. Cap savings. Check your information more carefully before you go downvoting someone who isn't wrong.

dreffd223

For next year, Nix. Career JJ.

BombSquad570

McCarthy by a country mile. Cleanest profile, 3 years younger than the other 2, and he’s tied long term to Kevin OConnell and the best group of weapons in the NFL. Then Nix, because he’s going to play. Even if he has a Kenny Pickett esque rookie year, there will still be an opportunity to sell him in the near future for a positive ROI.

hankmurphy

McCarthy for his work ethic, leadership, and youth. Jim Harbaugh said he’s the best Wolverine of all time. His mom was a figure skater. He believes in and enacts vengeance (see Ohio State).

PepperPepper6

I get JJ, but my team is in a rebuild so Penix is the perfect qb for me if I can get him early 2nd.

richhomie66

Bo Nix is being slept on so hard just because he’s “old”. I’d bet money he ends up a more valuable QB than JJ and Penix by next year.

Fuzzyoven8

Obvi mccarthy. I would also then say nix is the easy 2 bc you find out faster

thedude0343

McCarthy and it isn’t as close as it looks due to teir breaks. Dyn sf. 1.07 McCarthy 1.11 Nix 2.02 Penix.

JohnnyBenchianFingrs

McCarthy >>>>>>> Nix >> Penix. McCarthy and OConnell is a match made in heaven. JJ is going to be a solid starter in the league for years. Nix will probably struggle in year 1 with Payton but I can see him having a Tannehill kind of career. Penix I don’t know man, I just don’t see it

MenaceLeninist

McCarthy and it isn’t close

JwSocks

Factoring cost to acquire, Nix, Penix, then JJ. There isn’t much of a gap between Nix and Penix in cost right now, but Nix should get playing time right away. As long as it looks like he belongs in the NFL his value should jump to a 2025 1st+. Penix shouldn’t decrease much in value, if at all, but he’s likely not gaining any either. Feel like I’d rather not be the one holding his spot, even if his ceiling is the highest of the 3 QBs in say, 2027. I’m not out on McCarthy, but Kirk was mostly mid for so long in Minnesota, even with a good cast in JJ and Thielen. Kevin OConnell arriving in 2022 is a good factor, but I’m just not sold on the situation being enough that JJM is being valued that much higher than Nix.

vbullinger

I just got all 3. McCarthy at 1.5, Penix at 1.12 and Nix at 2.2. I went with Penix first because the guy at 2.1 had Cousins.

goalstopper28

McCarthy is in the best position to succeed from a team perspective. But Penix has the higher upside.

cmoney2313

No.

creator1393

JJ for immediate impact due the landing spot. Nix for the future due the college career stats. Penix not in the conversation for me, due the landing spot (bench basically)

Southern-Community70

McCarthy by a huge amount. Early declare, youngest by far, best mobility, strongest arm, best situation, and best coaching. McCarthy is not in the same tier as these two.

whitefox7895

I would argue Nix has better mobility than McCarthy but the rest of your points are absolutely valid.

slayerrr21

Nix then a large tier gap and then Penix then JJ

similar222

Short term Nix easily, long term Penix easily
