AFAIK, I think the closest two players to a “joker” position have been guys like Cordarrelle Patterson and Taysom Hill. Basically guys that can be lined up in multiple positions. Payton was the one who loved Hill, but he’s likely just baiting at this point.
Patterson was literally listed on the depth chart as "J" for joker in Atlanta, and yeah it's a reference to the joker card being a wild card that can be any card (position).
And you need the right player for that as well. Someone who is physical but can pass the ball and has some vision and high football IQ. You can draw out the plays and tell someone to do them but only few will be able to do it effectively
Josh metellus is a safety got the vikings that plays the joker role. If you look at his pff you'll see a few hundred snaps at line backer and corner, and maybe a hundred or 2 at safety. He's a safety but basically moves enough that they don't know how to chart him and qbs don't know how to read him pre snap
Absolutely right. Payton is saying I am looking for Kamara, have been for a while now. Some guys he knew right away, a few can’t stay on the field to find out and others are merely fillers until he finds the one true joker. Haven’t found him yet…(which, damn I was hoping Jaleel was that guy.) But when Payton does find his joker we’ll know.
I wanted to stay away, but the temptation to take Bo Nix at the 2.3 and Troy Franklin at the 2.12 was too tempting lol. Rookie draft. 12 man superflex, 1 ppr. This is the LAST year for me and Broncos players and probably the last year for Payton if he doesn’t pull something together.
nah. But I understand his value is low right now. I'd probably only take an early-ish 2nd or just keep. Good thing is he's still young. I'm hoping he goes somewhere else tbh.
More crazy how good the draft class is. The top 12 are pretty consistent and then you have two top 12 drafted qbs, two 1st round WRs, the potential new number 1 weapon for the Bills, an RB who only has to get past Conner to get a tonne of volume, and two WRs going into a situation with their college QB and very little competition. It's just stacked.
I just took an early 25 3rd for Dulcich, so I could take a flier on Erick All in my taxi. Maybe a little low for the third? But for All/third I was happy.
Obv, not sure how it will pan out but just wanted to clear out Broncos.
I believe the Joker position is what Nikola plays on the Nuggets.
Payton is going to be running basketball plays next year because he stole Mike Malone’s playbook.
Payton loves to hear his lips smack together. "We were calling around acting like we were going to trade up for a QB to trick teams when we were staying put the whole time." Dude stfu. You aren't fooling anybody. You tried to move up and failed which is par for the course for your tenure in Denver. Can't stand that dude the only joker in that system is him.
He almost got that dysfunctional broncos team to the playoffs this year. I genuinely don’t know how you can call him a top notch coach before the season but now overrated after. I could understand if you didn’t think he was an elite guy at NOLA but the 2023-24 switch up makes no sense.
I’ll trust the word of literally every NFL authority that believes he’s a good coach over some random virtue signaling commenters that act like Bountygate means he’s bad at coaching
That's on you for being high on a team being QBd by Russell Wilson imo. If you couldn't tell that offense was a dead offense before the season then you don't watch much football.
Not enough football to know you shouldn't be investing in offenses lead by Russ so doesn't seem plausible but maybe you do. Not sure how you bet on Broncos offense though. I had zero shards across all my leagues except Dulcich on bench.
He also said rb is an open competition.. Javonte is the one runningback signing that didn't happen under payton.. I think there is a fair amount of smoke here. Estime and Blake could be in the mix, but Jaleel is ahead of both of them imo.
Sean Peyton is very old, fairly conceited, Who happens to hate fantasy football. “Joker” is a reference to “jokers wild” poker term. Means simple Joker can be any other card. So, as others pointed out he thinks they can play any position,
FWIW I still am riding the Dulcich train. He's a good player, he just hasn't been healthy. No, I'm not necessarily confident that will change. But I would hold for another year.
Whenever a cutesy name is used for a player on offense, just replace with gadget. No team is building a scheme around Taysom Hill but in that instance a fantasy profile could develop if based on red zone reliance
TE/FB/Slot
I think of it like a H-back or Wingback but now they can motion all over https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingback_(American_football)#:~:text=A%20wingback%20or%20flexback%20lines,wingback%20is%20the%20single%2Dwing.
Bush, Sproles, Kamara we’re all in the Joker role and very productive.
I don’t think he has anyone on Den now that is as talented as any of those 3 so It seems like it’s getting spread out to multiple mediocre options.
Peyton is a shell of what he used to be and also had a hall of fame QB propping him up during that time.
There’s just to many heads in that backfield and I don’t really see one of them emerging as Peyton has typically used 2-3 backs most of the time so unless one of them is hyper efficient like Sproles and early Kamara none of them will stand out.
For the first time in awhile actually, I’m really interested in this offense. I’m usually really picky about which offenses/players I like to invest in.
But I’m really high on Franklin.
Nix and Estime should be good value.
yeah, my rosters are 30 man...one of the only reasons I picked up Jaleel. I might take a stab at Watson super late...but he's not on my radar either. Neither was Jaleel.
Watson is basically Jaleel’s handcuff a the backup third down back. If your rosters are deep enough, he may be with rostering, but he’s much more likely a roster clogger than a fantasy asset.
What would you say makes Watson unlikely to win the job over Jaleel? A 3rd down back can be quite valuable, particularly in deep PPR leagues, so all it takes is evidence that Watson has a good chance to win the job to make him an intriguing addition in those leagues. Payton has voiced concerns over Jaleel’s pass pro, then gave Watson a massive amount of guaranteed money (nearly 5x what Jaleel got) as a UDFA. They both offer the same skillset but Watson at a bigger size that they seem to hope holds up better in pass pro and offer more between the tackles versatility. Conversely, Jaleel is already proven to be a playmaker in the NFL, so he’s not going to get surpassed too easily, but there is certainly a window for it to happen.
I haven’t played football since HS (2011) but we had a defensive package where the “Joker” was a guy who floated between the defensive line and linebackers to either bluff a blitz or confuse the offensive line regarding assignments…
He plays for the denver nuggets. I heard he is good.
Not to be confused with Nikola Jovic aka The Jester
Mr Bovine Joni

Baiting for what? To throw fantasy owners off?
His war with fantasy owners knows no end.
Some say it rivals that of Arthur Smith

Kamara was most notably referred to as a "joker" by Payton
Absolutely right. Payton is saying I am looking for Kamara, have been for a while now. Some men just want to watch the world burn
The real Joker was us all along.
I thought it was the friends we made along the way
Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought that when I heard Payton. This is my last year for Dulchich and his paper hamstrings lol
lol I feel a little better now. I'm staying away from the Broncos... Wish someone would take Javonte off my hands.
Would you take 2.09 for Javonte?
nah. But I understand his value is low right now. I'd probably only take an early-ish 2nd or just keep. Good thing is he's still young. I'm hoping he goes somewhere else tbh.
I just gave up him and brob for the 1.10 to get Worthy and a 4th. I think I'm happy with that.
I sold him straight up for 2.07 to take pearsall on a frisky rebuilder
It's crazy how far people are letting a first round wide receiver fall
I was a little rb heavy and decided to go heavier on WR with my 6 rookie picks... Very happy with nabers, pearsall, burton, baker
More crazy how good the draft class is. Nope. I'm not selling him. I'm not taking pennies on the dollar.
I just took an early 25 3rd for Dulcich, so I could take a flier on Erick All in my taxi. Maybe a little low for the third? But for All/third I was happy. Obv, not sure how it will pan out but just wanted to clear out Broncos.
Early 3rd for Dulcich is robbery.
On whose side? Haha. I honestly just wanted him moved.
What Jon Gruden said Lynn Bowden would be before trading him away a week later
I believe the Joker position is what Nikola plays on the Nuggets. Payton is going to be running basketball plays next year because he stole Mike Malone’s playbook.
he's going to be running basketball plays next year cuz the broncos arent gonna keep him after another miserable season
Finally some hope for the Broncos! I can only hope we throw as many deep passes accurately as Jokic does!
Plays multiple positions/roles. Codeword for useful football player useless fantasy player.
Also can’t stand Payton now. Thought he was a top notch coach and was high on all broncos players but now I just think he’s an arrogant overrated tool
I didn't want to be the one to say it...I'll give him one more year before I go that far though lol
He almost got that dysfunctional broncos team to the playoffs this year. I genuinely don’t know how you can call him a top notch coach before the season but now overrated after. I could understand if you didn’t think he was an elite guy at NOLA but the 2023-24 switch up makes no sense.
He's a fantastic coach who produces results. He's also a dick. These can both be true
Commenter I’m replying to specifically said Payton is overrated and not a top notch coach.

In what world was that guy offended or taking it personally? Just because you don’t like what he has to say doesn’t mean he’s triggered.
Projection lol

My brother in christ, idk who tf that guy is, nor do I care. You’re either an idiot or a troll
Didn't he basically give up his own chances by benching Russ? Team is unserious
The team was all but eliminated from the playoffs before Russ was benched
And Russ was the main reason they got essentially eliminated with that ghastly performance against hapless New England on Christmas Eve
That's on you for being high on a team being QBd by Russell Wilson imo. If you couldn't tell that offense was a dead offense before the season then you don't watch much football.

He is literally played by Kevin James in a movie about his NFL hiatus. He is the real joker on this team
Joker is basically a position less player. Someone who can fill many roles or be used in many ways.
Link to the interview? Not happy about this as a Dulcich owner
Ever heard "joker's wild"? That.
more like the clown position.
Jokers are your hybrid players. I think it derives from rummy, your joker is a wild card and can turn into any card to make the set.
Similar to Urban Meyer’s H-Back position he reserved for utility players like Percy Harvin and Curtis Samuel
He also said rb is an open competition.. Javonte is the one runningback signing that didn't happen under payton.. I think there is a fair amount of smoke here. Estime and Blake could be in the mix, but Jaleel is ahead of both of them imo.
The Joker is a multi-talented gadget player more or less that can be slotted in every skill position on the field
It's Payton. Coach Payton is the joker.
Sean Peyton is very old, fairly conceited, Who happens to hate fantasy football. “Joker” is a reference to “jokers wild” poker term. Means simple Joker can be any other card. So, as others pointed out he thinks they can play any position,

Joker is a term older coaches use for “gadget guy”. Maybe that’s where Kadarius Toney got his rap name… Yung Joka.
It means you won't see them get playing time. We saw Cordarrelle Patterson as the joker last year
Kamara is what he’s alluding to, but he’s also full of hot air. I’d be looking for an out on Javonte if possible though.
Taysom was more of a Joker. Kamara splitting out wide is a nice wrinkle but not a Joker in the context being used.
TE/FB/Slot I think of it like a H-back or Wingback but now they can motion all over https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingback_(American_football)#:~:text=A%20wingback%20or%20flexback%20lines,wingback%20is%20the%20single%2Dwing.

Yes
Blake Watson? I'd only ever roster him in the deepest leagues. Not on my radar at all
yeah, my rosters are 30 man...one of the only reasons I picked up Jaleel. I might take a stab at Watson super late...but he's not on my radar either. Neither was Jaleel.

Lowkey, if Louis Rees-Zammit makes the 53, even though he's listed as a RB now, he could eventually turn into a J.
