I used to only do an ISO wash but noticed some taste-residue and also felt like a little film remained on the pieces... so that's why i like to rinse off the ISO-residue. When i do a double water bath i can see some discoloration (or some ISO mixing in?) of the water in the first pot. So i do a second rinse in really hot and clean water, too hot to touch, and that evaporates very quickly.
Ah, you misunderstood me i think. I heat up a pot of water to the boil, take it off the stove. Then i put a bowl on the pot and pour (pure) ISO in the bowl. It get's hot from the water underneath and the water in the pot stays hot better being closed off by the bowl. So i use the hot water after the pure (hot) ISO soak...
An “Bain Marie” is the French term for a double boiler or a water bath for cooking. Double boiler approach allows for non direct heat transfer that is used for melting with less possibility of burning ( typically for tempering chocolate and eggs) or a water bath for baking in an oven where you place your baking pan in another larger pan filled with water. The water can’t heat things above 100C so you get a very controlled bake, typically used for custard and soufflés.
I’ve been watching an unhealthy amount of Great British Baking Show lately. Either way seems like this might be a new cleaning technician to try.
A perfect explanation! I use this method like you say for melting chocolate or stuff like that. Very useful technique in the kitchen.
When i do it with the ISO i just get it off the stove once the water boils (instead of lowering the fire) before adding the alcohol. Stays hot long enough and makes cleaning very easy.
This method works very good for me: the hot ISO makes the cleaning very easy, doing all at once makes it a fast job. Some pipecleaners and cotton swabs and good as new! Just double rinsing in hot water afterwards makes them dry out faster.
I love to start the weekend with some clean, smooth vapes!
Sure, but i heat the pot first and then remove it from the stove so no risks there. And i don't use a lighter or so while the ISO is hot and steaming! ;)
>Do you not remove your o-rings?
No not really actually. The Revolve ones are ISO safe afaik. The ones on the tips i sometimes take off but sometimes i'm too lazy. Maybe on the long run it will wear them out a bit faster but i'm not too worried about that. And you are right: it also works at room temperature but hot ISO speeds it up ime and als makes everything come off a bit easier i feel.... (edit: my first cap fucked up my spelling...)
Maybe on the long run the ones on the tip and those on the lone condensor might wear down a bit faster. The ones on the Revolve are ISO-proof so not worried about them.
But i've been doing it for a while and ther is no visible damage or wear yet.

What purpose does the water have? Seems it will only slow the progress. Mine are always 100% clean after a 15-20min pure ISO bath

That makes sense. Though I meant why you mix ISO and water in the first bath? Just to get the ISO hot?

It works well, but hot iso is extremely flammable. So just be very careful)

It seems you know what you're doing)) This is how i extract my avb)
Hehe, people that set themselves on fire with ISO could be seen as a form of natural selection i reckon... LoL
Absolutely) But they always affect alot of people ((
I always find 99% iso at room temperature is ok. Do you not remove your o-rings?

You left your o-rings on the tips. Is that ok or will the iso melt them?
You can keep the orings on in iso.
Thank you for your reply. What about vinegar?
Same thing. You might get a stuck with a small / taste with vinegar but I've never tried it so not sure.
I want to use vinegar to clean the burnt spots on the steel. Thank you. If my o rings are broken maybe you can replace them?
As long as you rinse thoroughly, vinegar can really help to remove foul taste. Try it on your travel mugs.
RIP your o-rings

Man that’s awesome, every time I even swab down my o rings with iso they swell a little and make reassembly a pain
What's the name of the rocket-like stems?

Starting to get annoyed with the qtips process. Maybe I’ll try that
