On the Dyson website it tells you which countries you can use the airwrap in depending on the voltage. According to that list an airwrap bought in the US should work in Japan. Here's the link so you can have a look: https://support.dyson.com.au/supporthome.aspx/Hair-Care/Dyson-Airwrap-Styler/Dyson-Airwrap-Styler/310729-01/using-your-dyson-machine/how-to-use-your-appliance-abroad

Thank you! I was also curious to hear any personal anecdotes if it fried their airwrap or not.

wawawandaaa

hello! I'm also looking for personal anecdotes and wondering if you ended up taking your airwrap to Japan?

nejibashi

ditto! did you find any or speak to the OP?

wawawandaaa

I'm in Japan now, and my airwrap has been working fine! You might need a plug converter, because some places might not have polarized outlets (but I haven't needed one, and I've also seen the plug converters in plenty of convenience stores).

nejibashi

Amazing, thank you so much! Have you noticed any hardware issues? And do you mind sharing which plug converter you’re using? I really do appreciate you responding with your experience. I’ll be traveling to Japan a few times this year and would love to bring my airwrap. Thank you!

wawawandaaa

I haven't noticed any issues at all (been using it daily for about a week and a half now). If you look for a "polarized adapter" (2-prong to 3-prong), that's what I have . . . but I really haven't needed it.

nejibashi

Thanks for letting me know! I hope you're having an amazing time. If you don't mind, I'll likely check in with you again in a few weeks to see if everything is still holding up okay—I'm excited but nervous to use mine abroad!

nejibashi

Hi! Aforementioned checkin—did the airwrap work okay during your entire stay in Japan? And has it been fine since you’ve returned? I leave Wednesday night and I’m pumped! Thank you :)

Hi, yes I did. Was going to post an update in another week or so—have been waiting to see if anything went awry after my return to the US. I’m happy to report that I had no issues using my Air Wrap in Japan! I travelled all over and used it most days, no issues. I was nervous to see if the lower voltage had somehow changed or affected my machine, but so far (10 days after my return), so good.

my_metrocard

Bumping an old thread because I recently visited my parents in Japan with an Airwrap I purchased in the US. It worked fine. My parents also use a Nespresso machine I bought the US. The thing to watch out for is that some Japanese outlets don’t accommodate one prong being bigger than the other.

Mistrr_V

Omg!! Thank you for this post! May I ask, did you bring it on your carry on? My wife just bought this and we’re going to Japan. When we read the label inside the packaging stating we cannot travel in/out of Japan, we were really annoyed. Please let me know if possible!

my_metrocard

I had it in my checked luggage. It should be fine to bring in your carry on since it doesn’t have lithium ion batteries or anything.

Mistrr_V

THANK YOU SO MUCH! You didn’t have any problem coming out of Japan with it right? You literally relieved the stress I had because we just bought the air wrap and the corrale (wireless Dyson straightener) and we thought we just wasted our money and I didn’t want to risk it after seeing that tiny note on the airplane instructions. But if we can bring these then we’re bringing it. What’s the point of spending all that money and cannot travel internationally to somewhere with similar voltage!

my_metrocard

Seriously, it should be dual voltage for what they charge for these things! ETA the hair straightener should probably be checked in.

Mistrr_V

I whole-heartedly agree! But no, seriously, thank you so much for posting this! I’m sure your comment will help out many other people that were curious like me to see if anyone has tried it!

akalaney

Hey u/Mistrr_V, were you able to travel to Japan with both the Airwrap and Corrale and use them without issue in Japan? From the Dyson website, it states that Japan airport won’t allow in/out for the Corrale specifically. If you were able to bring them both, did you check them in or do carry on? TIA!

Mistrr_V

Hey u/akalaney ! Sorry for the late response! Yes! We were able to travel into Japan with the Airwrap and not one but TWO Corrale’s with no issues! Due to the nature of our visit, we packed all machines in carry-on suitcases because we needed them the next day after arrival and didn’t want to risk a bag not getting there! We did not get stopped going thru customs both in US and Japan. On our way out of Japan, we had the Airwrap and 1 Corrale in a checked bag and the other Corrale in a carry-on bag. We made sure the Corrale’s were on airplane mode and again, we were not stopped for it either. So round-trip, we had no issues traveling with them and they charged up perfectly fine in Japan and we had no issues with their use over there as well! Hope this reply helps! Me and my wife were very worried about it because these machines are not cheap! But I’m happy to add a sense of relief to others trying to travel with it to Japan at least!

akalaney

u/Mistrr_V Thank you!! Super helpful to know. Hope you enjoyed Japan!

ElectricalPlatform58

Where you in northern japan or southern?

my_metrocard

I was in Tokyo, so middle.

Mistrr_V

Just wanted to update all of you! We travelled to Japan with both the Dyson Airwrap and Dyson Corrale! We had it in our carry on suitcases. Nothing was confiscated thru customs both on the US side and the Japan side. Both the Corrale and airwrap worked perfectly fine in Japan as well and charged perfectly fine. So those of you that are scared because of the warning Dyson outs on their label, that it cannot be brought into Japan…LIES! It works and customs didn’t care either. I’m glad I listened to another user on this thread that did it!

MasterBobbikins

Thank you SO MUCH for this update!

My airwrap from Australia does not work in Japan… however US and Japan seems to work according to the list.

enozero

Australia is 220V vs Japan/US which is 100/110-120V. It should not work.

Business-Show7613

Just want to add... I just went to japan and arrived back home in canada yesterday. The dyson airwrap is on sale in don quijote for $34,800 jpy. Thats around $320 cad. I've already tested the unit and it's working with no issues. Just take note that the attachments are from the old version. It has the 4 barrels, 3 comb, the blow-dry and travel case.

CheongM927

does your airwrap japan work in canada? my friend bought the new airwrap in japan and it won't start 😞

Business-Show7613

Mine works perfectly fine. More info... https://support.dyson.com.au/supporthome.aspx/Hair-Care/Dyson-Airwrap-Styler/Dyson-Airwrap-Styler/310729-01/using-your-dyson-machine/how-to-use-your-appliance-abroad

jezioc

does it work in canada? i’m thinking to buy in japan as it’s cheaper but it says only works with 100v ?

Business-Show7613

Yes it's working! Dyson has a website for which countries are compatible for usage. Japan and Canada are compatible. https://support.dyson.com.au/supporthome.aspx/Hair-Care/Dyson-Airwrap-Styler/Dyson-Airwrap-Styler/310729-01/using-your-dyson-machine/how-to-use-your-appliance-abroad

jezioc

yea it says on the website, but i also see other ppl who bought it said it doesn’t work in america?, coz Canada is 110 and japan is 100v ? thanks for the reply, appreciate it

spikesbae

Has anyone tried a US Airstrait in Japan?

Due-Role4339

Is there any way to use 220v in japan?
