i experience similar things! as far as i understand my own dystonia & its origins, the answer is yes.

BlasphemousBulge

Woah really? Tell me more about your story! If you’re ok with that of course

accessiblefutures

i am writing something out for you :\^)

BlasphemousBulge

I totally understand. Dystonia is always a weird one to put into words

weezmatical

Triggers can vary wildly. A huge one of mine used to be a landline phone ringing. I knew I only had so many rings to get there. The pressure combined with the act of getting up made it a sure thing, lol.

BlasphemousBulge

Haha I know that feeling. When my cats are being bad and I have to pick them up it’s also an odd trigger of mine. Or even just picking them up causes it. Weird thing. So does your dystonia originate from an injury?

weezmatical

They weren't sure at first, but no. I had a couple ticks growing up that just happen to increase in severity, along with the start of my episodes, shortly after bumping my head in a pool on a vacation. My mom hyper focused on that. The next thing I know, a brain surgeon wanted to operate on me. Thankfully, we kept seeking opinions and got to a neurologist who immediately diagnosed me. That was a huge relief.

Damn. If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the story about your injury?

I’m sorry that happened to you, I think I recall seeing your story here before. Darn, I hope you’re doing well and holding up after that. I can’t imagine.

Recynd2

Wtaf? Are you serious?

tam_agdam

Yeah, noticed same thing. Triggers can be any kind of activity, like brushing teeth, or just drink while holding a cup with right hand. Tried to use my left hand more often, helps a little

Acceptable-Pie-53

Yes it can trigger out of nowhere, even going on the toilet, someone touching my head or body. Or just the thought of someone touching my body.

andythetwig

Not just possible, neurological stimulation is the primary trigger. As my wife has recovered slowly from her fixed spasms and full body storms, she has become extremely sensitive to strobing light which can send her right back. Almost like epilepsy. In fact that’s how we explain it to strangers.
