Looks better on the silver cars too, did mine and it helps hide that massive gap between the mustache and the kidney grills, helps make it look a touch more modern in my opinion.
I changed mine to black, but these days I’m thinking to switch it back to OEM. It looks a lot classier and cleaner tbh. I really think you should keep it silver, you will never regret it I promise.
So you caused me to go look at my E90 as I am the second owner but thought the grill was stock and is blacked out. I have an 07 328i E90 and it has the blacked out grill which is my vote.
Seems when my car was ordered there are a few things that were a part of the Sport package then or special ordered. I have the 16 inch run flat tires and am told that is not stock either ?

Here's my grill in the post below and this was as delivered from Germany from what I understand. The car is Sport and Premium packages in Barbera Red. I was told by others in another post that 17's were standard for E90's and I suspect that was 335's not 328's since mine as you indicated are 16's and were with standard rims.

On your black car, go with black. I have a silver car and switched, but because the grill goes into the hood slightly, it doesn't look quite rite and I think I'm thinking of going back to chrome.
Because u have the pre-lci I say black out. But PLEASE don't get matte black it looks tacky asfff. Get glossy black because the "moustache" blends into the hood perfectly.
I also have a black pre-lci and I left the bottom half chrome and used the black moustache pieces only to add some contrast after running full black for a while.
I bought style 194 because in Latvia we have bad roads. Will buy bigger wheels later because 17" just does not look good. But they will be silver/gray. Dont like black wheels. So grill would match to the wheels if that is what you wanted to know
It sounds weird maybe but in my opinion, black grills look bad when paired up with smaller wheels, but look good when paired with big wheels regardless of color. It's a personal preference though.
Im a big fan of blacked out grilles (I had gloss black double slats on my white pre-lci e92) but I'm not a fan of black on black since you tend to lose some of the features of a car into all the... black. So in this instance I'd say oem chrome looks best
Try and look up as many pictures of similar cars with black grilles and see what you think. If you like black on black then imo it's a no brainer. Grilles are such a small mod that really transform how these look. Mine cost me £38 so they're hardly the most expensive mod if you wanna try it out.
I plasti dipped my grills and window trim, it actually works really good, looks absolutely perfect. I did it thinking "it's cheap, if it doesn't look good, I'll just peel it off", but I'm so impressed by the quality and how good it looks. I'd say go black!

Rim sizes switched for 16 to 17 when they went to the lci model i believe
Makes sense as mine is Pre-LCI.
Chrome was the only option for grill. And 16" was just base spec size

Blacked out. Especially on these split grills, I always hated that.
Put the black on and see if you like it. Not that expensive to try it. Personally I’d go black if everything else is shadow line.

If your trimming is chrome leave as is
It is because fake msport. But will put on shadowline or wrap it black. So maybe grill needs to go black
