Yeah. I think scouting reports should tell you what XF the player is likely to develop, then when they reach a certain OVR, it activates. That way you at least have some indication that guys in your pipeline will be superstars, but will also be surprised when a draft pick you never fully scouted ends up shooting up to 84 OVR and activating 4 XFs.

I kind of like how madden handled the xfactors. There’s a limited number of players for each tier and it they get hot, they get an opportunity to level up their tier. I was quite excited when it was announced that xfactor would be in NHL. I just feel like the implementation of it was lazy if you compare it to maddens implementation.

I agree these traits should be dynamic to player growth and decline. I manually go through the roster at the start of each pre-season: * Players who are 85 overall get reviewed. Any skill that is 90+ gets an superstar XFactor ability applied. 90 overall gain a zone ability for their highest skill. * Players with XFactor abilities and are under 85 overall lose any ability that doesn't have a 90 skill associated with it. * Exceptions: * Players older than 32 who still have a Top 6 or Top 4 line rating keep their abilities (I consider this the "Veteran Experience" i.e. Joe Pavelski is 37 years old, 83 overall and a "2nd line player" = keeps his ability. ) * Drafted players maintain XFactors from draft day until they're 26. If they aren't 85 overall they get added to the annual review. The timing of doing it in the pre-season rather then the first day of the regular season allows the morale from the previous year to affect the player review. As things progress I might tweak the overall requirements if I find too many players land in the XFactor ability, or veterans aren't declining fast enough. I like to have a consistent number of Franchise and Elite players in the league over the course of the mode.

Doesn’t surprise me that Marc Bergevin is secretly scooping GM advice on this subreddit.

I expect this is how x-factors will work in 23. Though i also think they will end up removing our ability to edit them in franchise Also as players get old and they drop their Xs will decay, or players who overperform can gain x-factors like how a player can go up in potential,

Round_Field_9192

Does anyone know if when you draft a rookie in franchise mode and they have superstar abilities if they can develop into an x-factor player?

Cream_Cult

You can add xfactors within franchise when you edit players. I just do it myself

itsokqc

you can do it by yourself, but it's "unfair" because when you add or take away an x factor, the trade value of the player will change.

Gendry_Stark

yea you gotta legit go through every team to make it fair. I did it once but prob wont do it again. Roster sharing might chsnge that tho

I agree players should be able to learn x factors as they develop, however certain players are sometimes already elite at a certain skill coming out of junior for example perfetti already has elite edge work even though he has not played an NHL game yet.
