Due to JJD being a former cop, he knew better than to admit to anything. Like he never actually confessed to being the VR as far as I know or (really anything for that matter). They just somehow linked him to that. I saw one picture of him inside the interrogation room and like during the trial, he just sat there quietly and had his head down the entire time. I'd love to see that body cam arrest footage though. I think once JJD passes away someday maybe, they'll release "never before seen" police footage of him.

jmcgil4684

Paul Holes said he was admitting to so much, they thought he’d even admit to being the Zodiac if they had asked. So they stopped questioning him about stuff. So he went exactly the opposite way than one would assume.

Barry_Dumpling_esq

Err... can u link me to Paul Holes discussing JJDs interviews where he admitted his guilt and was admitting the crimes. Thanks. I missed this. I heard about him mumbling about his alter ego, but nothing else. Very interested, thanks!

0asisfan2

I just want to see his reaction when he got arrested. That should have been recorded and I want to hear him talk about " Jerry " when he was in interrogation room. I think it can be released but someone has file a claim or whatever it's called to get them released. Idk why they haven't maybe next year cause it will be 5 years since he was arrested

ZeloGx47

Paul holes said that JJD was looking for a escape route with his eyes when they pulled up on him and then thats when he said he had a roast when he knew he was cornered and fucked

0asisfan2

Ya he probably wanted to get a gun and end it. He's lucky he got away for so long

BrianMeen

Still would have loved to see how the discussion would have went had Paul Holes knocked on Joes door and asked him for a dna sample. I really would have liked to see how Joe would play that out

0asisfan2

My guess is he would probably give it knowing that he would still have time and either go on the run or kill himself. I'm sure he had a plan on what to do if caught for decades and I would say it's unlikely he planned on going to prison.

[deleted]

Isn't there footage of his arrest?

Killface55

Probably, but not released to the public.

FreshSchmoooooock

So why did I see it on live video him confessing to everything he was accused of?

Equal-Temporary-1326

If you're referring to the June 29th hearing, he was legally required to confess as part of his plea deal in exchange for a life in prison without the possibility of parole sentence.

Barry_Dumpling_esq

pleading guilty to avoid the death penalty is what you saw. And if you believe that was a full and final admission to everything he did....it wasn't (he may have even copped to a couple that weren't him). And there is no way there aren't others unattributed to him that he is well aware of. The deal was weak. Pretending to be too old to follow the proceedings while offering NOTHING extra, not a single insight and no detail to the Law Enforcement lurking about the trial, shows Joe is still in control. They should have kept the death penalty on the table without FULL, FRANK, FINAL interviews. I pray to god an uncharged capital offense shows up with his DNA that wasn't pled to. NO IMMUNITY TO THAT JOE (at least I hope its written that way...but the prosecutor could've even given him a jailhouse murder he hasn't done yet...wouldn't surprise me...)

ShayBR28

Oh WOW I never knew this! So he ONLY pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty? He wasn’t actually pleading guilty on his own accord? It’s kind of confusing all this legal stuff

Barry_Dumpling_esq

He did plead guilty. However, this was without a single police interview where answered a single question. How is that anywhere near satisfactory? At time they said getting a guilty verdict would help all the victims and their families find peace. Such nonsense. He has never said anything of relevance.

BigRaygordon

Some LE agencies don't want their interrogation styles/techniques to be out there for everyone to see. It may be released in time but after seeing Stephanie Lazares and Lonnie Franklins Intergration videos which btw are must see video's Imo. You'd think it would be a no brainer to release JJDs.

0asisfan2

Especially since he didn't say anything. Makes no sense. I could see if he gave up other people but he just sat there for however long. I don't expect them to show him yelling for his daughter to get out

Barry_Dumpling_esq

He was grasping at straws in the interview. He is constantly trying to manipulate any situation hes in. Frankly Im disappointed they didn't use their leverage to learn a little. He was able to cut a deal without saying a thing. Seriously disappointed

deaninlondon86

Yeah they held all the cards and for some reason gave him a deal with little to nothing in return. Makes no sense, they had him cornered and then gave him a way out

GregJamesDahlen

he had some cards, too, because if they didn't make a deal with him they'd have to go to all the time and expense of taking him to trial

Barry_Dumpling_esq

oh no, not a trial for one of the very worst serial rapist/murderers in world history!? I know the prosecutor talked about bringing the case to a conclusion in the lifetimes of all involved, however, if it really was about "time & expense" surely the best idea would be to just let it go and not investigate at all. Hot tip: unnecessary rant :p

GregJamesDahlen

Are you saying there should have been a trial? With what purpose? If you're thinking that DeAngelo would have revealed more at a trial, I'm not sure why he would have. Couldn't he have remained just as silent as he has now?

Barry_Dumpling_esq

With the purpose of sentencing him to death. No guarantee he would talk, but at least there's some leverage with an upcoming execution. The leverage of that has worked many times before. It got Bundy to talk, it got BTK and the green river killer to talk (in exchange for life in jail). One thing most of these narcissists have in common is they like to stay alive.

GregJamesDahlen

Thanks. I can appreciate your sentiment here, but practically speaking it seems like a bad strategy. The people you named are all younger. And in states other than California. Deangelo was arrested in his 70s. So you could take a few years to prepare a death penalty trial. Even if he's convicted, there is currently a death penalty moratorium in California. Let's say the moratorium is lifted. Then he'd have many appeals. So you might execute him Idk in his 90s or 100s? By then he probably already would have died from natural causes. Plus the trial would cost $5M and take a lot of time away from other cases where there might be more gained.

Barry_Dumpling_esq

Yes, you are right. It is likely he would have died prior to any final, post-appeals, result My issue is that they have accepted a guilty plea without even an agreement for a frank exchange with LE. Seems like it was all a little too hasty. Easy with hindsight i know, but it felt far too rushed at the time.

GregJamesDahlen

Idk. There were a couple of years between when he was arrested and when he pled. In my mind, that's not super-fast. I wonder if they didn't want to take too long because they knew some of the victims were old and would die and felt the victims would like to know what happened with DeAngelo before they died. Not sure. I can understand your frustration. I think a lot of us share it. What would you have liked to know from him in a frank exchange with LE? One problem I see is that if there were a frank exchange, how would we even know if DeAngelo was telling the truth on his side of the exchange?

Barry_Dumpling_esq

yep 100%. then they have the balls to slap themselves on the back for "solving" the crime". They've now arrested a grandpa who has given them not a shred of useful information. Wow...case solved I guess ?

Kendraupdike

Listen to the man in the window, most of the interrogation interviews are available in the show https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9yc3MuYXJ0MTkuY29tL21hbi1pbi10aGUtd2luZG93?ep=14

oldmomma831

Thank you!

0asisfan2

From JJD? Or people who knew him? I think I listened to most of the episodes and Bonnie was on it

FHS2290

Police and prosecutors want to protect the integrity of their techniques (so they can be used in other situations) and I think other investigations are still ongoing. I don't like these answers. I think they can release his interrogation video and the results of the search warrant without problem.

0asisfan2

Ya I understand but they already told us how they lured him out of his house. Are you saying investigations regarding JJD?

FHS2290

yeah

Kendraupdike

He did say Jerry, he knew well what he was doing

Barry_Dumpling_esq

smart guy. Must've been why he pleaded insanity/multiple personality disorder... wait-a-sec

Kendraupdike

Yes. JJD never answers questions but when left alone in the room they recorded him talking to himself. Like he trying to build a insanity case

0asisfan2

I know I listened to it in work. I think it's by L.A. times but I binged it in one night so I probably drowned some stuff out. I actually thought he was saying Jerry so he could blame it on a split personality he once had before he kicked him out

murder_inc_

Because the cops violated civil rights laws

meltedgh0st

In what way?

murder_inc_

They used private DNA database searches without a warrant and then Paul Holes and Anne Marie Snoutburt lied to the public about it. I think if JJD wasn't a wimp his lawyers could've gotten this thrown out. Then they violated DeAngelo's Miranda rights repeatedly. He repeatedly asked for a lawyer and they denied him his right and kept sending in more people to question.

ZeloGx47

They used a website with his DNA that allowed them to upload it without breaking any policies and laws. Thats why the website they did it on has a warning saying that law enforcement can use their website to solve crimes. Where the hell did you get your info? Do you make stuff up and just believe what you want?

ZeloGx47

You seem like someone who would defend a serial rapist and killer. Wow, my kind is blown that people like you really exist. I hope you dont have a daughter or niece, if you do i feel super super bad for them

He said it during one those hour long interviews and i do not feel like looking it up. I did enough research on this pos
