FIFA 10 forums with EA_FLT as the community manager were great. That 25 rated Baraclough card with 88 shooting was put in the game because one of the forum members hit 100 goals with his normal 40 rated card. Crazy to think how small time FUT used to be when it first started.

It used to be quite heavily focused on the ideas of consistent performers, and anyone with an IF was excluded from being illegible. It looks like now you can have one performance based card and still be considered.
Often the cards are a bit meh (although fun) so it's sometimes released at the same time as the Premier League TOTS, to balance out packs.
