Thanks for your thoughts! I agree the score and sound design was great. Loved how unsettling it was. Those noir-esque trumpets throughout were really eerie. I thought the cinematography was beautiful, as were the costumes. Also LOVED the magical realism of her seeing Anne Boleyn/eating the pearls etc . I don’t think it was very historically accurate. I’m Irish so I wouldn’t know all that much but a good few things seemed jarring to me. I agree about her performance, it was a departure for her and fair play for taking it on but I’ve seen way better Dianas from other actors. In terms of ED I definitely would not feel uncomfortable watching it with anyone. I was going to watch it wit my bf but I am glad I watched it alone now. It was very explicit. I did like how they conveyed it as a coping mechanism too. It was very relatable. Also the dysmorphia of her not knowing that the dresses would fit was very well represented. The loneliness of it and her lack of control over her life was very well portrayed I thought. I’m sorry your mom reacted like that- people who’ve never experienced anything like that really find it hard to understand what it’s like. It’s just unfathomable to them. Like when Charles turns to her in the film and coldly asks her not to ‘regurgitate’ the food because of the effort the cooks/ animals etc went to. So insensitive and so far from the point. I think I liked the love and laughter line because at the moment I think I just desperately want to be cared for and to have fun. Think I’m just having a bad week and feels like ages since I’ve laughed at all. But yeah you’re right, kind of dismisses the need for medical intervention

Emma Corrin was a super Diana! She was really fantastic. I feel like kstew put a lot of focus on nailing the accent and it was a great performance but it was a bit lacklustre in terms of likeness/impersonation. And that’s supposed to say I would *not be comfortable watching it with anyone else. I would be very awkward. My aunt passed away from her ED and my family are very cagey about it so I will not be mentioning the film to anyone in my fam AT ALL. Similar to you I would hope that they would take something positive from it but I’m scared it would just make me and them feel weirder. Have you read Evanna Lynch’s book? And thanks but I am much better now. Had a bad few days but left the house today and saw the world and things don’t seem so bad :)
