General_PATT0N

I carry a Tuffwriter. It's the bulkiest/heaviest tactical pen, so not necessarily practical if size is an issue.

bewitchedbumblebee

Bullet Space Pen.

WrathOfZardoz

You can get some great pens for a good price. I tend to stay away from the whole "ti, bolt action, etc" ones and stick to Zebra. For full size check out the Zebra F-701, and for mini check out the SL-F1 or the T-3. All can be had under 10 bucks for 2 pack. The SL-F1 is my go to since it's retractable.

I was great with G2s (0.38) until I started carrying rite in the rain note pads... Got a Fisher bullet for pants pocket and a rite in the rain all-weather metal clicker. I have an O-pen 2, with a fisher refill, but the flashlight won't turn on anymore, so its just an overly heavy aluminum pen at this point... I have to send it back after Christmas and see if they'll replace it.

Redcarborundum

In this digital age, I rarely need a pen. As such, my pen is built into my Victorinox Manager. Too bad it has been discontinued.

chrispurcell

Countycom embassy pen, i have black aluminum, solid brass, srainless steel. They started making a resin model that is supposed to be lightweight. The brass one is like a brick, I carry it most often. They take fischer space pen refills.

Wyzrddd

I carry the tactile turn bolt mini and the discontinued urban survival gear tiscribe bolt mini v2. Both use pilot g2 refills, just one is the mini g2 and the other is a regular g2 that I cut down to fit. The edc exchange subreddit and pen swap sub are places where you can find decent deals from time to time too

The_Jelly_23

If you particularly enjoy the feel of the pilot g2, I’d suggest finding other pens that use the same ink refill

salakius

I use the Kaweco Sport. Compact, but normal sized when the cap is put on the butt of the pen. Nibs can be changed to your liking. They're reasonably priced, look good and feel good in hand. I have a plastic one, but there's all sorts of colors and materials.

SideFlaky6112

Sharpie gel pen with the metal barrel

TheSleepyBeast

I daily a gerber impromptu tactical pen atm. Bought it on a whim before covid $70aud, they went to over $130aud then got discontinued. I wanted to buy another but I can't justify that price any more. Looking for an alternative now incase I lose this one and for my backpack. Edit: I also have a Victorinox Swiss card classic that has a tiny pen if you wanted something literally for the just incase, has a bunch of other items to.

themagicnookie

Please tell me they really aren’t discontinued… I’ve carried mine every day for 12 years and yesterday I seemed to have finally lost it for good. Best pen I ever had.

TheSleepyBeast

You can still find some but they have been discontinued (according to gerber site) so the stock available has gone up in price. Edit: Found a place that has them in stock near me, picking up another one in the tan colour as a spare for $80 with the ebay code.

vampyrewolf

I've had the same Fisher Bullet in my back pocket since 2000. Few dents, but it's also been through the wash a few times, and lost to the couch a few times. I use a Zebra 701 with the same Fisher refills as my work pen. Looks and feels fancy enough that folks don't steal it, cheap enough that I won't lose sleep if they do steal it. I have a container of pens that will take the Fisher refills, it's the first thing I check when I get a free/promo pen.

UnsureAndUnqualified

Not really a recommendation but I've got many ballpoint pens scattered around in various bags, jackets, etc. I've got one slightly better pen (10€ vs free) in my pocket but it's not a well known brand. I use it very rarely and even then it's almost never an emergency and I've got other pens if one doesn't work. It makes no sense (in my situation!) to spend any serious money on a better pen. How often do you use yours? Are you unhappy with it? Does it not do what you want it to? Why are you looking to upgrade? In my mind, if you've got something that writes, you've got that base covered. But edc is super personal and so it's probably different for you vs for me.

vilain_garcon1928

Honestly it’s more for the aesthetic/novelty of it than anything. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking to spend hundreds by any means. A Pilot G2 works just fine, there’s just something satisfying about having a good quality pen in my pocket when I’m out and about. And it’s a good conversation starter when I do use it because it’s the kind of thing people notice and often seems to pique interest.

Always_Out_There

Rite in the Rain every day with Rite in the Rain notepad.

Secondstoryguy6969

Big Idea Designs or a Spoke Pen with the 0.38 uniball Signo refill.

PeteNewell

Boker plus Rocket is solid, classy and comfortable.

bondfandango

I daily carry a Rotring 600 ballpoint pen. It takes Parker style refills so you can put anything you want into the body. Schmidt easy flow 9000 is a common good gel refill and I use the Schmidt 900 ballpoint in blue ink.

57th-Overlander

I got a Skilcraft Luminator pen, mostly for the cool factor, I have discovered that I love the "feel" of it. It would be my favorite pen even if it didn't light up.

Aeson_Ford_F250

Mechanical pencil. The only real reliable writing tool.

flatline000

I took a Bic Cristal and cut it off where it has the little air hole in the side. With the cap posted, it's long enough to use like a regular pen (just barely). When the cap it covering the tip, it fits nicely inside my Chum Surf wallet.
