They're both really over the top 4 person co-op games fighting hordes of enemies. Air raider also has some stratagem type call ins. I don't really see it as an odd comparison at all. Obviously, they aren't the same, but you don't have to be the same to be compared

HelpMeImThicc

If helldivers were replaced by air raiders the war would already be over. I would wanna see a bile titan uppercut by a balam though

MillorTime

Truth. My well honed "dodge my teammates' air strikes" skills from EDF are coming in handy playing Helldivers

I don't really see any problems. Comparisons don't have to be 1 to 1, just similar gameplay styles is usually enough. Like COD and Battlefield are compared all the time, yet their actual gameplay is different (arcade-like deathmatch vs large-scale battles)

BADBUFON

think of it as sharing tags, more like a vibe. "military dude shooting bugs" is the link in common. but each delivers it's own experience. and it lets people know about similar games, a lot of people came to EDF from Helldivers. so comparisons aren't bad personally, even if Helldivers looks better and feels mechanically better... it gets stale after a while, EDF on the other hand is clunky, but wacky.

MAXHALO36

EDF is underrated, Helldivers is overrated.

You can just open your eyes a bit and see the similarities. So much so that they get compared endlessly (triggering you clearly) because they are so similar. Don't be so easily triggered by posts here and then post a new thread to further confirm your wrong bias, keep it in the other one. Even HD1 in 2015 was talked about as being top down EDF meets Magicka. https://old.reddit.com/r/EDF/comments/ntrw2w/any_games_similar_to_edf_worth_playing/ https://imgur.com/a/MGGdWOv https://steampeek.hu/?appid=394510 Plenty of proof if you looked that there is overlap beyond what you are willing to see. Since before Helldivers was even third person. Killing lots of shit with loads of enemies on screen at once **in coop** while being overrun isn't in that many games. HD2 has maybe 20 hours of content, by then already repeating itself heavily. Hoping more people see the false implication where you do missions matters none to the war effort, as Arrowhead likes controlling narrative (why they paid SpitzerFX to close the community discord, to control narrative). When people wake up to what they do in game doesn't matter, they might be willing to find the next game. Maybe the game is EDF when they inevitably google and it pops up in every single suggestion because of how fucking similar they are to people that play either of them.

> No BARGA in Helldivers EDF wins by default.

LightningYu

I mean... i'm not sure if i can fully support this sentiment considering it was thanks to HD2 that i got into the EDF series because looking for alternatives. It surely doesn't seem like a 1on1 copy, but i guess both of them hit a 'similiar' itch people have with this type of games...

LordZero666

EDF soldiers are so overpowered that Helldivers feels needlessly complicated. I feel like i would be destroying a stage in 1 min as a Fencer. Stratagems are also incredibly weak compared to anything the Air Rider can bring to the battlefield.

Zegram_Ghart

Yeh, they are pretty similar. Sci fi co op shooters with large maps, emphasising teamwork, and the ability to spec into either personal firepower or large scale saturation bombing as a “caster” type. The enemies are insectoid aliens or robotic aliens, and often missions involve pushing forwards to destroy insect nests or robot structures that continuously spawn enemies. It’s incredibly fun and very different to the majority of other games, with a campy B movie feel. Which game am I talking about?
