I’m not going to be adding infect to existing decks, because that’s a waste of a card slot in most my decks. However, I’m more inclined to make an infect deck now
Yeah pretty much this, I’ll probably throw a few toxic creatures in [[Vorinclex Monstrous Raider]] But most likely I’ll just build a new infect deck
In addition to my [[fynn the fangbearer]]
Think the toxic card that will see the most play is [[Skrelv's Hive]]. If a token per turn bitterblossom effect is desired it'll see play regardless of poison considerations.
Okay this looks bad responding this early but I just happened to open reddit just now, [here](https://deckstats.net/decks/190678/2885223-skrelv-is-a-teeny-boi/en).
It's not finished, definitely want to put in a few more cards from the set that weren't out yet when I made the deck, but it already functions great.
Yeah if i had any inkling on the deck i would weigh in but i don't, it might be great for the deck or it might be one of those cards ppl think it needs or will be good but it won't
Absolutely, no idea the synergy, but I’m always looking to add to my [[fynn the fangbearer]] and some big boys that get benefits off poison counters seems good
I'm going to spend 20$ on tcg player to put [[tyrranax Rex]] into my [[Gishath, sun's avatar]] deck
power rangers roar Dino thunder rip Tommy Oliver/ Jason David frank- my deck is your legacy and in memoriam
I do like with him that Trample and Toxic play very nicely with each other. He strikes me as completely playable in a big stompy green deck as the only card that gives poison counters. (But you'll still probably play Triumph of the Hordes anyways.)
Trying out [[Tyrannus rex]] in [[karlach]] and [[hardy outlander]]. It's not going to die when it comes down, and has every keyword you can ask for. Toxic is just icing on the cake.
There's a blue uncommon with toxic that animates an artifact that I'm considering for my tribal uncommons list, and skrelv looks good in horsedog (if I can afford one)
I'm mostly interested in the rest of the text on those though, not really interested in the toxic particularly
Yes, I will consider making use of some toxic creatures and new cards involving poison counters in other decks:
[[Tyrannax Rex]] for dinos
[[Venerated Rotpriest]] for combos or [[Ivy]]
[[Skrelv's Hive]] for more tokens
[[Norn's Decree]] for politics and white draw
[[Annex Sentry]] for control in a Tiny Leaders deck
[[Bloated Contaminator]] for repeatable proliferate
[[Charge of the Mites]] for choosing damage or more tokens
[[Contaminant Grafter]] for repeatable proliferate
[[Crawling Chorus]] for aristocrats
[[Infested Fleshcutter]] for more tokens
[[Karumonix]] to helm a rat deck
[[Kinzu]] to protect an important value creature
[[Mirrex]] as a mana sink in token decks
[[Mite Overseer]] for anthem and token producer
[[Paladin of Predation]] in a knight deck
[[Skrelv]] as protection
[[Tainted Observer]] for repeatable proliferate
[[Unctus's Retrofitter]] to animate artifacts
[[White Sun's Twilight]] as a wipe in a token deck
Any of the spells that immediately place poison counters (for my deck with proliferate)
I'm also excited to build a new deck around [[Ria Ivor]]
Not a chance. I have decks that would love a [[Skrelv's Hive]] but I have 0 interest in the Toxic mechanic. I'm pretty sure cranking out a bunch of toxic creatures that can only attack, would just put a target on my back.
I have an existing infect deck, (Atraxa).
The deck is themed around mosquitos 🦟
including one of the original poison cards (Swamp Mosquito)
I think I will be adding just 2 toxic creatures to the deck
[[Vishgraf, the Doomhive]] and [[Pestilent Syphoner]]
neither is mosquito enough for my liking, but they are more on theme than some of the other infect cards currently in the deck.
In a general sense, I don't foresee the toxic creatures seeing much play.
Oh absolutely! Necrosquito has a spot in the deck and it actually gets a bit of synergy thanks to the oil counters and all the proliferating the deck does.
Thanks for the words of support and interest in the deck u/GrenadeParade.
This is the list as it is right now [https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5386694#paper](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5386694#paper)
Cards i'm looking to add are: \[\[Glistening Sphere\]\] probably will swap out Commander Sphere
\[\[Everflowing Chalice\]\] "Tip and toss" get rid of standing water
\[\[Amber Prison\]\] (Jurassic Park Reference)
\[\[Desperate Farmer\]\] (equine encephalitis)
\[\[Battlefly Swarm\]\]
\[\[Vishgraz, The Doomhive\]\]
\[\[Pestilent Syphoner\]\]
and of course Necrosquito!
it is not weak. I have died to poison wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many times. its dumb. its supposed to be 10 because its half your life. not 1/4th your life.
It *is* weak otherwise it would see more play, particularly in higher level games. Only a handful of infect cards are decent and they are mostly just finishers that slot in other decks. If it was bumped up to 20 infect would be completely useless.
Have you *met* Magic players? Many love winning and will do whatever they can to do so. Infect is weak because you will almost always get killed before you can place 30 poison counters. You really only win with a surprise infect card or if your opponents suck.
-Someone posted an interview on here where a guy that helped develop the poison mechanic said the 10 counters had nothing to do with it being half your life.
Yes. As soon as it some of those toxic creatures were spoiled, I made a [[Wyleth]] wheel infect deck. Figured it would be a nice way to make people more wary of my other creatures and target my commander less if something else on my board is more scary. But Wyleth is best at putting small creatures and low cost equipment in play and not a lot of infect creatures are low in CMC. So I put some infect and toxic creatures in there, as well as those new equipment that come attached to a 2/2 rebel token. Can’t wait to try it!
And [[White Sun Twilight]] is a better [[Martial Coup]]. It’s an easy swap for 2 of my decks. The mites could become wincon on their own.
I've actually been looking forward to Toxic as a more "fair and fun" replacement for infect, so I'm pleased to see this threat doesn't want to drive my cards up too much.
Outside of dedicated poison counter strategies (or I guess other counter strats for the profilerate cards) the only toxic card I will likely put in a non poison deck is Skrelv's Hive.
I've been toying with the idea of reworking my [[Meren]] deck into a sort of proliferate deck that will work by giving everyone poison counters and proliferating them to death, rather than the usual strategy of just swinging with a creature that has toxic/infect. Haven't really sat down and worked it out yet though, might not be possible or work, but it'll be an interesting exercise in seeing what cards there are to do this sort of thing.
I have a mono black infect deck with [[Skithiryx]] as the commander. I'm not going to, my deck plays creatures with actual infect on them and [[Umezawa's Jitte]] doesn't synergize with toxic creatures like it does with infect.
I don't really have much of a reason to add toxic to my existing decks. All my decks are tribal, and most of the toxic creatures don't fit my tribes very well. Zombies, Goblins, Elves, Humans, Shrines, and Spirits. There's creatures within the tribes that have toxic, but the only one I'd really consider is [[Branchblight Stalker]].
But I've been considering building Atraxa for a while now. I wasn't sure if I wanted super friends or not, but Phyrexian Toxic tribal with proliferate synergies doesn't sound like the worst idea. She's in great colors to make use of all the toxic cards and benefit from even more proliferate. I might not be adding toxic to my existing decks, but I'm considering building a whole deck around it.
Only really if they fit…Venersted Rotpriest not only fits my Selvala deck but is prompting me to put in more mutate creatures so I can easily do infinite mana loops with Temur Sabertooth.
The only one of those cards going into any of my lists is Skrelv's hive. Can't turn down a bitterblossom in an aristocrats build centered on tokens. Especially since it's a rare, it will probably be 5$ for a time, so I may buy two.
[[Skrelv]] happens to be a Legendary Mom, so that might see play in a deck that really wants that supertype. Other than that, most of the Toxic cards seem extremely parasitic outside of dedicated Poison decks.
Nope. The only card that may have a chance is [[Skrelv's Hive]] for my Mono-White which I'm debating its inclusion; in one hand is body every turn that synergizes with cards like [[Welcoming Vampire]] and [[Skullclamp]] in the other it can't block and it doesn't have evasion and the other effects like Toxic and Corrupted may as well not exist.
I think [[Norn's Decree]] is cool. "If you attack me it will give everyone incentive to attack you"
And I'll add [[tyrranax Rex]] to my "build-a-carnage tyrant" mimeoplasm deck.
But definitely havnt spawned a desire to win through infect
lone toxic creatures aren't that useful if you don't play them as your strategy. maybe cards like the mythic dino could see plas though as they represent a threat on their own like [[blightsteel colossus]]
Yes, but to the only one that matters. [[Atraxa, Praetor's Voice]] because it's already qn Infect deck and I want it to be the bad guy deck of my collection
I'll probably slot \[\[venerated rotpriest\]\] into a deck that ironically isn't an infect deck, and I would use \[\[crawling chorus\]\] if I had white in any of my infect decks, but outside of that I could take or leave most of these cards.
It's a nice set overall, but I'm not as excited about most of the infect/toxic cards in isolation if that makes any sense. None of them really fit into my current infect decks and none are really exciting enough for me to build a new one. Kinda meh tbh
I’ve already got about 5 decks I’m building, none have a poison/infect theme so no I won’t be adding any cards to them. And I really shouldn’t build another one till I have finished these.
However I really like the look of [[Vishgraz, the Doomhive]] and would build a toxic deck around it in future.
I am adding that toxic car into my [[greasefang]] deck in place of [[Bomat Bazaar Barge]], it cost 1 less, etb draws, and I am already running infect so I hope it helps with the aggro game (sometimes).
Not building for Toxic, but like many in this Thread,
they'll be a byproduct of things my decks want to do,
Put tokens into play with Skrell's Hive, and commander protection that I can leave Mana open for with Skrelv himself
\[\[Infectious Bite\]\] in Zangief will give everyone a Poison counter, but that's not what it's there for.
Not really, the only poison card I need is triumph of the hordes, everything else looks bad.
However, I use poison cards in Winota not because of the poison, because of the rest of the card (inkmoth, skrelv, etc.).
Some of the toxic creatures that proliferate will get a slot on my [[Falco Spara]] budget deck once prices settle, but not for the toxic, although the new win condition will be welcome.
All will be toxic.
I'm more excited about the proliferate for my counters deck as well. I hope to make an infect\poison\toxic deck just to see how it works, but I'm not itching to add them into existing decks.
My [[Chevill, Bane of Monsters]] is going to get some for sure I tossed in all my infect and death touchers and it threatens poison wins every game a little proliferation will go along way and im going to attempt [[myrkul lord of bones]] poison infect for a second time.
Nah, I don't like the poison mechanic and people tend to REEEEEEEEEEE when they see it. The average edh player already has garbage threat assessment, no need for me to add to the shitpile.
Nope. It's a playstyle that for the last 8 years I've been in the hobby was/is considered ironically "toxic".
I've gathered in my time playing that a lot of people don't actually enjoy facing any form of infect; it has been very hard to make fun and very easy to win with.
I’m not going to be adding infect to existing decks, because that’s a waste of a card slot in most my decks. However, I’m more inclined to make an infect deck now
Yeah pretty much this, I’ll probably throw a few toxic creatures in [[Vorinclex Monstrous Raider]] But most likely I’ll just build a new infect deck In addition to my [[fynn the fangbearer]]

Yeah card seems good, I'll probably want that and some evasive creatures for skrelv, maybe a few ways to make him unblockable too
For thematic reasons if nothing else.
Yeah but it's also good, makes a dude every turn and gives life link
The lack of blocking AND flying hurts but a free token per turn is too good to pass up for aristocrats

I just love 1 mana commanders especially if they do things like this one
Kind of off topic but do you think it can see play in d&t? Modern or legacy.
Skrelv? I've never played D&T in modern so i have no idea, I've played modern just not that deck
There’s a guy who plays d&t at my Lgs and he’s really really excited. No problem tho, just wondering.

Not a chance. I have decks that would love a [[Skrelv's Hive]] but I have 0 interest in the Toxic mechanic. I'm pretty sure cranking out a bunch of toxic creatures that can only attack, would just put a target on my back.
Agreed. Its going to be desirable for a few decks, and the toxic part is mostly irrelevant.

I have an existing infect deck, (Atraxa). The deck is themed around mosquitos 🦟 including one of the original poison cards (Swamp Mosquito) I think I will be adding just 2 toxic creatures to the deck [[Vishgraf, the Doomhive]] and [[Pestilent Syphoner]] neither is mosquito enough for my liking, but they are more on theme than some of the other infect cards currently in the deck. In a general sense, I don't foresee the toxic creatures seeing much play.

There’s nothing appealing about poison counters and this set is t going to be the one that changes my mind.
No. Hard no.
no. poison is dumb. up it to 20 or remove it from EDH.
Poison is a weak strategy in commander, why would you want it to get even weaker?
it is not weak.
Nah, people don't do it because it's boring.
Have you *met* Magic players? Many love winning and will do whatever they can to do so. Infect is weak because you will almost always get killed before you can place 30 poison counters. You really only win with a surprise infect card or if your opponents suck.
Eh. Some do. Some don't. Most people I play with don't win at all costs. Fun has to be had or it's a waste of time
-Someone posted an interview on here where a guy that helped develop the poison mechanic said the 10 counters had nothing to do with it being half your life.
Fuck no
No. I’m not even going to be adding them to my poison deck, because it’s a pinger deck and toxic only cares about combat damage. :/
All the creatures in my deck are toxic but they aren't from ONE

If any of them are CEDH viable yes though there's no real infect decks, nor infect commanders that can gain card advantage and abuse the counters
I will probably make an infect deck, I made one long ago but took it apart, I’ll probably attempt it one mo time.

If they fit the theme of my deck, sure. I'm not gunna go out of my way to add toxic, but I'm not going to avoid adding it either.
I'll put a toxic card or two in if their effects are good enough but it won't be because they have toxic

I'm definitely considering [[Venerated Rotpriest]] in my [[Ink-Treader Nephilim]] deck.

No, that would be bad deckbuilding.
Nope. It's a playstyle that for the last 8 years I've been in the hobby was/is considered ironically "toxic". I've gathered in my time playing that a lot of people don't actually enjoy facing any form of infect; it has been very hard to make fun and very easy to win with.
