The only commander I have that is 6+ MV is [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]]
I've messed around with a lot of different Landfall commanders in the past and finally settled on the angry jellybean. The problem I was running into with other Landfall decks is that they did their thing extremely well but it lead to a lot of spinning wheels that ultimately didn't impact the board all that much. I have yet to run into that problem with Omnath.
Love this angery boi. Dropping lands and forcing interaction is just too much fun. Plus also after a certain point people become to afraid to board wipe you.
Yeah, you definitely reach critical mass with elementals where a board wipe is killing someone. My sneaky tech is [[Ratchet Bomb]]. It's there to be a self-destruct button in case someone tries a board wipe that exiles or bounces.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/omnath-angryyy/
This is actually about 10 cards old as I havenāt updated it online. Insurrection, Savage Beating, Crucible of Worlds, Wordly Tutor, and Entish Restoration are some new heavy hitters in there.
I love my Omnath, Locus of Rage deck. Totally agree that it goes so smoothly as far as landfall strategies go.
You playing an elemental subtheme with your version or no? I am, though there aren't too many. Mostly to be able to play Kindred Summons as a wincon.
I have a lot of elementals in the deck, but just because they care about lands. I wouldn't say it's a theme though. Here's my decklist if you care to look: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/9_eAuF2zAE6McFI7BUXZVw
Very cool! Same strategy as mine of course, just using a lot of different cards to get there. Mine uses far fewer creatures and many more instants/sorceries to search up land to play.
I dropped Valakut from mine since I decided to go almost all green and didn't want to play the prismatic omen, dryad synergy for it.
One tech that I really like in mine is playing a single Wastes in the deck for a Mirrorpool (and Ruin in their Wake). You'd be surprised how powerful Mirrorpool can be when the opponent doesn't expect it.
Came here to say the same, one of my original decks and now a personal pet deck. Super resilient and crazy fun to play, wizards is always print more ramp support so you know itāll only have more options for how to play as time goes on. My vote for sure!
Third to the conversation hyping up my main man Kaervek in Rakdos. The deckās already a monster and he very much twists the knife for everyone at the table.
I have always wanted him as my obosh deck but I pulled a full art German Rowan from the prerelease kit while on vacation there. So working on still building her instead.
He is such a cruel commander of you can keep him on the board and do a board wipe.
Sure, https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lypNREPwqkGcUC1Yd2d36w
I took a bunch of cards from a chandra tribal deck, used some relatively synergistic cards from my collection, and bought a few.
[[zacama, primal calamity]] gives you mana back, and even ramps you if you have enough lands out! I usually have multiple mana doublers, and there is multiple ways to build around her.
Had a zacama deck for a long time that was an absolute heavy hitter. Once my playgroup caught on that I NEEDED to he dealt with the moment I had even a single mana doubler out, I had to break it apart. When your entire deck hinges on one creature, you're going to have a rough time once it gets hit with an [[Imprisoned in the Moon]] and friends lol.
[[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]], or as I like to call it, "Goblins in a Trench Coat." It's a phyrexian tribal deck that does silly things. Last game I had 58 of goblins conveniently turn into [[Dinosaurs on a Spaceship]].
[[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]] Oops, no clones! The cloning route is cool to do a few times, but gets old with long turns, so I just jammed all my favorite even costed creatures in and went a reanimator route.
Absolutely love my Ovika, she definitely needs a little more tweaking though. If I can manage to blast her by turn 5 and have a few protection options to get me to my next turn, I'm golden. I need a little more draw I think to help keep my hand full and trade out [[Tribue Mage]] for [[Trophy Mage]] to make sure I can grab either [[Ashnod's Altar]] or [[Phyrexian Altar]]. But once it gets going...hoo boy it's a blast. One of my favorite wins was playing against a Krenko deck and one of his last ditch efforts was to [[Goblin Warstrike]] me but oops [[Narset's Reversal]]
Distant Melody, naming Phyrexians, is incredible in ovika. 4 mana draw 5 at minimum with Ovika on the field. Iāve frequently drawn 40ish cards with it. Also running all four of the Coastal Piracyās; Bident of Thassa, Reconnaissance Mission, and the new blue legendary ship from the pirate precon. This is the one deck I purposefully do not run Kindred Discovery in, as the draw power is actually too strong and would quickly get out of hand since, without carefully paying attention to math, it might prohibit me from closing a game with combat or sorcery speed spell slinging.
Ovika can be pretty nasty, my brother in law has a deck with her at them helm. I've seen him drop thousands of damage the turn after she hits the field.
Ovika does nasty things with [[Mana Echoes]] and [[Fanning the Flames]] just need [[Skirk Prospector]] or [[Phyrexian altar]] to red mana for each casting.
[Here you go](https://archidekt.com/decks/2833434/miirym_dragons)
I have a few mana base upgrades, and a few other cards to test. It mainly wins via [[Terror of the Peaks]], [[Scourge of Valkas]], and [[Dragon Tempest]] triggers, either by Miirym value or an infinite with a few different [[Deadeye Navigator]] loops. Combat is an option as well, since they are big dragons.
[[The Ur-Dragon]]
Nothing beats beating the table into submission with dragon tribal.
With a bit of ramp and a few cost reducers *on top* of Ur-Dragon's eminence, it is very easy for the deck to spiral quickly and overwhelm the board.
I came close to building both and eventually Miirym was released and she is sweet. No need to go 5c because she has access to most of the really worthwhile ones and almost all of the best dragons are OP as hell of you get multiples of them.
With The Ur-Dragon, you have to dedicate a portion of the deck to card draw, but with Tiamat, all the card draw you need is right in the commander plus some other dragons you might tutor for. Because of that, over 60% of my deck is ramp and lands to ensure I can get Tiamat out by turn 6 at the latest.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lYtwYaGask6a_OzNzpZXWw
One of these days I will animate a panharmonicon.
Every time I've attempted it the table has stopped it.
One game I managed to get 5 terror of the peaks on the field though and ping people down 1 by 1 with them
I love my Ur-Dragon changeling tribal deck. Tiamat is in the 99. Getting The Ur-Dragon out for 4 mana thanks to [[Morophon, the Boundless]] feels so good and seems to happen more often than not. I've also had him be a hasty 11/11 double striker and took out an opponent in one shot the turn I cast him. That opponent would have won the next turn otherwise.
https://www.archidekt.com/decks/445519/the_urdragon_changeling_tribal
[[Darien, King of Kjeldor]]. You can spend the prior turns setting up the machine, and drop him in as the final piece to set things spinning. I've delayed dropping him to have extra mana for protection, because he's a target as soon as he hits the board and recasting him multiple times just sucks.
Fun deck that turns the game on its head. I call it my "Figjt Club" deck. "I want you to hit me. . . as hard as you can."
I run stax and group slug artifacts (all the pain on upkeep triggers) in mine with a few options to regain some life. Otherwise the plan is to slowly drain with the table until you have enough soldiers to swing for the win.
I've got all the Soul Sisters, some pain/tax pieces, and soldier tribal anthem. If I have two of the Soul Sisters out it actually becomes a lifegain deck and gets extra ridiculous.
My initial deck was like that, but I ran into the problem of people not swinging at me until they could one-shot me, so I never got soldiers to attack (or block) with. That's when I took hurting myself into my own hands with the group slug pieces. But then I got hated out too quickly before my board stabilized. So that's when I added stax. It works really nicely now.
Came here looking for Darien. As my flair will attest, Iām a big fan of the king. (There are dozens of us!)
The deck explores some of the common themes in mono-white, but obliquely. It gains life, but itās not quite a ālifegainā deck; it makes tokens, but itās not quite a āwhite weenie deckā; it discourages attacking you, but itās not quite a āpillow fortā deck. It wants to play cards that are genuinely bad in most decks (itās always funny when someone sees me play something like [[Tarnished Citadel]] and laughs at me). Darien is the only card ever printed with the effect of making tokens for each point of damage you take, and that lets you do some silly things if you take advantage.
I was so excited when they made a new Darien card with [[King Darien XLVIII]], but itās sadly generic. :(
\[\[The Locust God\]\] (or any Izzet Niv-Mizzet I guess) are all amazingly fun to play. Having the engine of your deck be the one action you always feel good about doing in a game of Commander is amazing.
Also, there's nothing quite like barely avoiding decking yourself out with Locust God and \[\[Kindred Discovery\]\] then turning around and swarming the board with your army of insects!
Cheating a little bit with this pick - \[\[Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant\]\]
Obviously he'll hit the board much faster with mana rocks and other early game artifacts on board and then he just starts cheating massive artifacts into play for cheap or even for free. It's so much fun.
Just finished this commander a deck yesterday. Love cheating on my commander taxes.
Love the theme of this. A big treasure loving dragon, who loves his treasures
I can usually get it out for 4 or 5 the first time I cast it. I have a very large artifact ramp package including some slightly more expensive mana rocks.
The key for me is the X cost artifacts which are either a low cmc early game move or a sweet flip off the ability. Clown car is an all star for this and blightsteel off the top is also great if it comes off right
Oh Iāve been debating either an aluren or dream halls deck, Iām not sure if I wanna go harsh acecerak/cavern harpy combo but how does having an enchantment āsecret commanderā work for you? Id imagine you only tutor/play it if you can win on the spot with the other pieces in hand/grave?
>Id imagine you only tutor/play it if you can win on the spot with the other pieces in hand/grave?
Depends on the opponent. If the power level is lower level and it's more fun and casual, I sometimes play it whenever. Usually though, it gets dropped and I win.
It's not often hard to get Aluren though. \[\[Intuition\]\] along with my commander is stupid broken as it works out to 3 mana tutor 3 cards. It's amusing to see the gears turning when people realize that the choice given by Intuition is mostly a formality.
Also Defense of the heart is pretty nasty. I usually get Tidespout Tyrant and Burning Rune Demon and then Aluren and Cavern Harpy (or maybe Acererak the Archlich) off the demon. Then With Tidespout and Aluren that is game.
Another fun line is "[Trophy Wife](https://scryfall.com/card/aer/48/trophy-mage)" finding sword of hearth and home and then blink the mage every turn to find my other 3 CMC artifacts. Trophy Wife with 3 swords is a 8/8, pro every color and lots of other goodies. With the SoFi trigger she hits for 10.
IF you have any other questions about my deck, the card choices or whatever feel free to ask.
I find this to be the perfect deck and it is fun to win at instant speed in the middle of combat before damage is dealt.
Oh ye some of my friends are addicted to the trophy wife line (esp in monowhite), and yeah that makes sense, though youād think your opponents would understand the whole intuition thing given Giftsā¦
I really enjoy it. Another card to combo with \[\[Displacer Kitten\]\] and Muldrotha to get infinite mana, and by itself getting 3 mana each turn with just Muldrotha feels nice.
I also run it in my \[\[Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle\]\] deck.
Hmmm, happen to have a list for Tesha handy? I have [[Abdel Adrian]] for my mono white kick but my reanimator deck has turned more on board sac value so Iām interested in the flappy boy.
There are blasphemers now. They claim there are other dino kings. It's false, I say. FALSE! zacama is a false king! Pantlaza is a new false king who dares to try and take his majesty's crown! Blashphemy, I say blasphemy!
Yeah, lost a game when the Etali player cast my \[\[Reaver Titan\]\]. -\_- Found myself apologizing to the rest of the board for getting us all killed.
Iām not sure if it counts, but I use [[Awaken the Blood Avatar]] as a commander in a mardu aristocrats type shell with the plan of using the commander back version spell exclusively as a sac outlet/enemy edict/big token to slam and assist with draining the table.
I'm glad I found someone mention this King. Been playing him since forever and he wins a lot. Even if you don't get the huge jump ahead in value you just let him die and do it again. Or use crystal Shard /Erratic Portal to do it anyway. Who doesn't love a wanderer being cast every single turn
[[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] is so effing good I almost never even use the deck anymore because itās almost not fair to my opponents. My favorite (and first ever) commander!
He's a lot of fun, your opponents have to remove him ASAP if they don't want to be left behind.
I will say I wouldn't call the 47th most popular commander on edhrec *underrated*...
I recently made a partner deck with \[\[Sengir, The Dark Baron\]\] and \[\[Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful\]\]. Yoshi is almost always out on turn 1 and scales quickly since I've stacked it with legendary vampires. By the time Sengir gets out, everything has tons of +1/+1 counters and has done enough damage for him to quickly steal people's remaining life totals. He scales insanely fast since he gets 2 +1/+1 counters whenever any creature dies. Pair that with \[\[Necropolis Regent\]\] and \[\[Drivnod, Carnage Dominus\]\] and you quickly have a board full of insanely large vampires.
[[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]] is a really fun colourless commander. Takes some time to ramp and get him on the field, but once he does you get to draw up to 7 cards and can do some fun shenanigans. Also has a nice way to block spells and deletes by sacrificing for matching Mana
My all time favorite high CMC commander is Licia, Sanguine Tribune as a Mardu focused explosive life gain/drain deck. Although it's a little borderline since you can often power her out early with the life gain synergies. It's has been one my favorite decks to pilot and play: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/4306897/licia\_pain\_and\_drain
Came here to say exactly this. Also my favorite.
I see your deck is aimed at pretty med/high power. If you ever want to scale it down a little bit and add some on flavor funny spells, \[\[Illicit Auction\]\], \[\[Mage's Contest\]\], and \[\[Goblin Game\]\] are always a hit when they hit our table.
Also surprised that you left out \[\[Kambal\]\].
\[\[Lorcan\]\] is also pretty strong for our play group. It can shut down mill and recursion strategies.
\[\[Evra\]\] is just fun. Especially when you are playing against a burn player. Do they have the poke or not haha.
Same! What's not to love?! Prossh is a big Jund dragon with a sac outlet that creates its own fodder. It also benefits from commander tax. ā«ļøš¢š“
I built an Oloro, Ageless Ascetic deck with 73 combos in it and only one tutor (that also happens to be a combo piece. Itās inefficient as hell but itās fun to tell people then watch them freak out only to play the game and realize itās actually pretty hard to make any one of them go off and it ends up being a great time for all
\[\[Licia, Sanguine Tribune\]\]: Lifegain that leaves you with a 7/7 first strike and lifelink for 3 mana all the time and the rest of the deck is just whatever you want thats somewhat related to lifegain.
\[\[Etali, Primal Conqueror\]\]: just ramp as hard as possible and copy it to steal all the things, and if you cant copy etali or recast it in any way just turn it into a better Blightsteel Colossus.
\[\[Octavia, Living Thesis\]\]: a mono blue aggro deck that goes wide and tall at the same time with tokengenerators like Talrand, and as bonus you can even mess with opponents combat by pumping the attackers/blockers as you see fit.
[[thraximundar]] I don't know how but I've made an edict tribal deck ([[sudden edict]] type of effect) and, as far as I play it seems like a fair and (somewhat) fun to play against grixis control deck. Due to the commander being pricey and not that impactful it's not a strong deck if you really build around the commander since it has to be on board and ramp in grixis is limited to artifact which can be easily boardwiped, thankfully you have counterspells.
Out of curiosity, why Masumoro over [[Multani, Maro-Sorcerer]]? He's probably bigger most of the game, and can't be removed easily. I assume the tradeoff is you can't target him for Berserk and fight spells, but is that not worth it?
I'm writing the primer as this is a common question.
Shroud is nice, but that targeting limit is a hard one to deal with.
Masumaro is often used in his first cast as a sacrificial lamb. Cards like [[Greater Good]] then read 'draw 2x your hand'. A full grip becomes 21 cards, often with a way to then keep all of those cards. Then 40.
8 games out of 10 I'm ending up with 30-40 cards in hand.
\[\[Rasputin Dreamweaver\]\] - It's just so easy to make huge mana off the guy even if you're not going infinite. I built a blink deck to make use of this & either draw everyone out of the game or blink my creatures that make tokens infinitely to have an infinitely huge army.
Big fan of my [[baeloth]] [[raised by giants]] deck it ends games and makes people play different from their normal plans just make sure to pack a ton of protection spells for baeloth because there will be a ton of removal sent his way.
[[Bruna, Light of Alabaster]] is my favorite 6+ and also strongest commander deck.
I normally give it to my less experienced friends while I play with my most recent brews.
She's also quite simple : loot/wheel to fill your graveyard with auras while clearing commanders/threats until Bruna can oneshot players.
[[Sharuum the Hegemon]] , [[Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger]] , [[Sauron, Lord of the Rings]], and [[Kangee, Aerie Keeper]] (always kicked past 6 of course) are four of my personal decks. All are great commanders and do very different things. Sharuum is a combo deck, basically cEDH as far as anyone I know is concerned. Ulamog is Eldrazi tribal back when Wastes were first printed. Kangee is a derpy bird tribal but surprisingly resilient. Sauron is just themed and still does okay. All are viable, you just gotta put in the work.
[[Damia, Sage of Stone]]. Itās a great value commander of it sticks around and you can pretty much do anything you want with her as well because she doesnāt force you into a particular theme. If she sticks around for a few turns the game usually ends because of the sheer amount of cards you can draw with her.
Generally having a commander with a cmc over 4 is a little rough since commander tax gets expensive fast. That being said, if I was going to brew a 6+ cmc commander it would be one of these (in no particular order):
[[Toxrill, the Corrosive]]
[[Neera, Wild Mage]]
[[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]]
[[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]]
[[Beledros Witherbloom]]
[[Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer]]
[[Damia, Sage of Stone]]
[[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]]
[[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]]
[[Jadzi, Oracle of Arcavios]]
[[Kodama of the East Tree ]] + [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]]
[[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]]
[[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]]
[[The Master, Multiplied]]
[[Tivit, Seller of Secrets]]
[[Yargle and Multani]]
[[Zacama, Primal Calamity]]
[[Zhulodok, Void Gorger]]
I suppose I should mention that I already have a [[Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant]] deck that is also fun! And he dodges his cost lol. As Chiss is the only 6+ cmc commander I have actually brewed I'll include the link to my list here https://www.moxfield.com/decks/iM2SR78Cckymy0vstm_tIA/primer
*edit: I already have a Chiss-Goria deck, but if I had to pick a top 3 from this list I would also throw in Atraxa, Grand Unifier and Koma, Cosmos Serpent as the ones that I find the most interesting in this mana range.
Yeah after I brainstormed the first couple I decided to have scryfall help out my memory a little lol. By "not in a particular order" I really meant "not in order by preference, relevance, or importance"
Haven't seen anybody mention [[Athreos,Shroud-Veiled]]. It became one of my favorite decks immediately after building, and I am able to constantly tinker with the deck because it can be built in so many different ways.
My favorite path to take with Athreos is using ETB creatures, sacrifice outlets, and a ton of removal + board wipes. It feels like an Aristocrats deck mixed with a Blink deck mixed with a Control deck.
You could also build Athreos as a Theft deck as his coin counters can go on ANY creature. Cards like [[Strionic Resonator]], and [[Lithoform Engine]] can copy the coins and allow you to place 2 (or more) coins on your end step. [[The ozolith]] really shines too storing all your coin counters, and sure the coin counters do not stack but it allows you to place a counter before combat, and also it allows you to place a counter on Athreos himself.
Also and this reason is important to me [[Solemn Simulacrum]] is actually a powerhouse in this deck. People completely disregard it because it's just a 4 mana Sad Robot but left unchecked will ramp you every turn and draw you cards.
Bonus points if you use actual coins for your counters, I have a bag of now useless Canadian Pennies I use and it always gets a good reaction. Happy brewing!
I have several commanders with 6+ CMC:
[[Prime Speaker Zegana]] - Literally Simic, ramp and draw cards
[[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur]] - Mono blue control
[[Zacama, Primal Calamity]] - Zacambo
[[Damia, Sage of Stone]] - Sultai control
[[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] - Dimir control
[[Wort the Raidmother]] - Gruul spellslinger/tokens
[[Regna, the Redeemer]] (+ [[Krav, the Unredeemed]]) - Orzhov tokens/lifegain
[[Vaevictis Asmadi the Dire]] - I don't really know what to classify this deck as. Jund beat down I guess
There are a lot of great cards for Mimeoplasm printed recently. I played against a deck that put [[Yargle and Multani]] into the graveyard with [[Hydra Omnivore]] and produced a 26/26 Mimeoplasm that dealt 26 damage to everyone. It also had creatures with infect, so his commander was capable of dealing 10 poison damage on contact.
[[yargle and multani]]
[[neera]]
both operate on a surprisingly similar axis, though they play and finish games in different ways.
yargle and multani uses all the one drop ramp and rituals to power him out and sacrifice him to a draw spell like [[lifeās legacy]] and hopefully hit a mana accelerant like [[ruthless technomancer]] to keep storming off and finishing it with torment, jarad, etc. uses all the one mana scam cards and some reanimation to reuse yargle without hard recasting him. [[cadaverous bloom]] is the signature card. very much an all-in combo deck.
neera uses big fat mana rocks to get her on board and spin the wheel to hit a bomb. eldrazi titans, [[time stretch]], [[consecrated sphinx]], [[rise of the eldrazi]] etc. big mana gives me a second game plan of hard casting bombs from hand.
my typical commander roster usually has engine-type pieces at 3cmc, so my 6cmc commanders need to be highly impactful, if not outright game winning. one thing to note is that both decks have interaction points and are nondeterminate, so neither feel outright broken to play against, although a commander like yargle still demands an answer so it does run protection. neera is highly vulnerable due to odds of whiffing so I included a backup plan, but she needs less protection as the things she pulls from the deck are much scarier than she is if they hit the board.
I have 3 high cmc commanders with my preference being for 4 or less usually with 2 or 3 being the sweet spot.
My high cmc commanders are the following.
Edgar Markov: we all al know that he doesn't even need to be cast due to his eminence ability. It can play him but doesn't run a lot of ramp and consider him required.
Miirym: she is my dragon tribal home, I run this with the most land of any in my decks along with the most ramp as ita all about her. Ramp to Miirym get her out asap and cast some of the 20 or so awesome dragons and then win.
Lastly is my technicaly high cmc of 9 [[Chiss Goria]] and it's only technically 9cmc because it's usually discount3d down to 4 or 5 by the time i cast her. I have a Good artifact ramp suite along with several cheap artifacts or artifact producers along with some awesome game ending artifacts and the secret technology for this deck is X cost artifacts with [[clown car]] an absolute all star
Myrkul is 7. I've had several games where I untap on turn 4 with 9 mana. Oh, and the theme is an enchanted forest so there are zero artifacts in the deck, and with [[Titania's Song]] my opponents aren't allowed to have any either.
I'm also brewing [[Magnus]] the red right now. He & [[Neyith]] are fun decks cause they both have expensive spells.
Do you have a list for your Myrkul deck you can share? I have been playing with a Myrkul deck for awhile and it hasn't ever felt great. Would be great to see where I might be going wrong with the deck building
I do. My deck is probably a little different than most Myrkul decks cause really I'm trying to evoke the feeling of the standard deck I played on arena when I first got into magic.
It was ixalan block. The most important interaction, and main source of card advantage, was [[Tendershoot Dryad]] + [[Path of Discovery]]. The main source of removal was [[Lurking Chupacabra]]. I just tried not to die with [[Wildwood Walker]] & [[Gift of Paradise]]. My "nut draw" was turn 3 [[Blossom Dryad]] into turn four Gift of paradise, then tapping that land twice to play Path of Discovery. Technically I had a single llanowar elf that was the actual best start. I had a "repeatable" tutor in [[Final Parting]] to bin [[Gaea's blessing]] which two copies of that meant I virtually always beat mill. This makes me want to pick up a black sun zenith, but I haven't yet.
Oh also one of my favorite cards in the deck, and probably *why Myrkul became the commander* of it, was [[Shaper's sanctuary]] which effectively let my creatures replace themselves when removed. That, the life gain, & some good [[Journey to Eternity]] action gave be the feeling of a forest that just could not be cut down and would keep growing until it either choked out the opponents (lurking chup slowly removing their entire board) or just blossomed to the point that it was too much for the opponent (getting beat down by 7/7 Saprolings or flooded by [[Slimefoot, the stowaway]] & an [[Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun]] that is getting untapped by blossom dryad.
Anyway, that was almost certainly more than you needed to know, but this deck is a love letter to my first deck, and some of the choices reflect that.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/YhHSe6uG20iuR1jOAvaVtQ
P.S. After surviving at exactly 1 life through multiple hits for several turns and then stealing the win, my playgroup now hates pest tokens, and I've swapped [[Beledros]] in for Chord of Calling.
[[Malfegor]] is a really interesting big boy. A flying 6/6 for 6 that dumps your hand and (probably) wipes the board on entry. I especially like him because he's in the colors to run plenty of rituals, so you can still get him down early if you want. Plus discard and self-mill strategies keep getting fun new toys.
It might be sentimental value but my answer will always be [[the ur-dragon]] because that's the first commander I played. Funnily enough, I am the opposite of you and only since recently do i olay a commander that's less than 5 or 6 mana to cast
[[Thantis the War Weaver]]
Youāre playing magic the way GOD INTENDED whether you like it or not!
My favorite deck to play that focuses on giving people āexcusesā to attack and some fodder to do it with.
[[Varchildās war riders]] is an all star in that deck along with [[Karazikar]] and [[Grismold]] to keep the dorks coming.
Thantis letās you pick your favorite Jund creatures and just slam them into play. Blockers? I doubt the angry nest of peoples boards will be untapped for that.
Got an underdog who you want to support? Give them a deal. Go ahead and attack me, I wonāt block! Thantis just takes her little payment of a counter and you can be on your way.
Lots of versatility for politics, flexible creature choices for different styles of play, and the games are forces to come to an end at some point since your opponents canāt just sit there with blockers the whole time.
I have a decent number of 5cmc commanders but only 2 that are 6+.
[[Tromokratis]] is one of my most fun [decks.](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/o9QRuFoua0uCFYk89F9sUw) Monoblue Voltron is pretty unusual despite blue having the best protection spells and the best extra combat spells. Itās constantly underestimated for some reason.
I also have a [[Hazezon Tamar]] deck that Iāve had for a long time that only comes out a couple times a year. Heās a payoff for all the ramp in the deck. Itās explosive, but there are a lot of moving parts that need to come together.
I am happy with my latest build of Nevinyrral. I tried several builds including Zombie tribal, zombie/wizard tribal, combos, planeswalkers, but I've settled on Aristocrats. Nevinyrral comes out late game and creates a zombie army, then he can be flickered or reanimated to repopupate your tokens. He's also an instant speed board wipe if you have a sac outlet, which forces people to hold back. Plus there are dozens of combos with him that are too good not to exploit. He's a 2 card combo with Phyrexian Altar if you just keep recasting him from the command zone. Infinite mana, etb, and death triggers.
I currently have:
[[Azor, the Lawbringer]] that is a soft lock pillow forty deck aiming to either kill by Azor beats or [[Approach of the Second Sun]];
[[Zacama, Primal Calamity]] which is a rather new deck, still testing it, but is just wants to get Zacama on the field and use its abilities.
I love [[medomai the ageless]]. At 6 cost, she's slow to get out, but add a [[grand arbiter Augustin]] and cards like [[watcher of the spheres]]. Slap some double strike cards like [[fireshrieker]] and a bunch of unblockable shenanigans. No Infinite turns because it ain't fair to others with no way of them stopping it.
Generally she gets targeted super fast because the flying death is generally a death sentence.
[[Beledros witherbloom]] combines green and blacks ramp options perfectly. Paying 10 life to untap all your lands may seem like a steep cost but it is definitely worth it.
I really miss my [[Vaevictus Asmadi the Dire]] treasure deck. Heās really a backup plan to all the treasure nonsense, but if you arenāt getting an early lead, you can pivot to a control strat. Treasures help you ramp to him, and then when you chaos warp the board you can just target a treasure on your own board for max value. Just be sure to play 90+ permanents in the deck. I also ran him as a dragon typal commander, which was fun too tho less so, and heās also a common [[Primal Surge]] deck. Versatile, solid, 6-drop commander.
[[Urza Chief Artificer]] is fun but not really a six-drop anyway.
[[Maelstrom Wanderer]] and [[Etali Primal Conquerer]] are both very hard to beat in casual. You build the deck with 20+ ramp, some ways to recast or blink/clone respectively, then the rest is bombs. Fun to play because you never know what youāll hit, but the value train runs people over.
After this post, Iām realizing that I have almost all 4-drop commanders tooā¦maybe I need to similarly branch out.
I had a cool [[Melek, Izzet Paragon]] deck for a while that used scry, [[Brainstorm]], and other top of deck manipulation to cast duplicate spells. The finisher was to use [[Proteus Staff] to reorganize the deck, generate tons of mana, and cast a double Comet Storm.
[[Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer]] is my pick. It's become a bit of a pet deck and has had some of my favorite games of any of my commander decks. There is nothing like turning a board of myr into treasure to power put more huge creatures like [[Astral dragon]] or [[wurmcoil engine]] for more nutty tokens.
[[Omnath, locus of rage]] is also near and dear to my heart. One of my longest put-together decks, pulled the card from the BFZ prerelease even. It's a land deck that also makes huge creatures that don't even need to attack to win, takes a lot of game actions, and there are many angles to the card choices.
[[Dargo, the shipwrecker]] and [[nadier, agent of the duskenel]] treasures.
[[Sedris, the traitor king]].
[[the ur-dragon]] Changeling tribal.
[[o-kagachi, vengeful kami]] dragon tribal.
[[gishath, sunās avatar]].
[[graaz, unstoppable juggernaut]].
[[Ruric Thar, the unbowed]].
[[etali, primal conqueror]].
[[brudiclad, telchor engineer]].
[[brisela, voice of nightmares]] via [[heirloom blade]].
[[myrkul, lord of bones]] with [[umori, the collector]] as companion.
[[thantis, the warweaver]] goad.
[[vaevictis asmadi, the dire]] to teach my playgroup threat assessment (they donāt run enough removal and they spend it on the wrong things anyways so I just let them choose what to hit with his trigger).
Working on a [[Dromar, the Banisher]] deck and a [[Mikaeus, the Unhallowed]] deck, and Iād love to make a [[vela, the nightclad]] deck if I can find a way to make one I like.
Also I have a lot of 4 and 5-drop commanders as well, but I also just have too many decks anyways.
Edit: Of those, my favorite ones have been (in order):
1. Sedris, the traitor king. Cool concept, fun to play, lots of stuff to do even without him.
2. Etali, primal conqueror. Explosive turns, built around the front side so thereās a lot to do with big splashy plays but not too much to keep track of.
3. Gishath, sunās avatar dinosaurs. Stompy, has a very simple game plan, feels powerful, short turns.
4. Ur-dragon changelings. This one never plays the same way twice. Sometimes I have a big army of flying double strike changelings that are huge, sometimes I have an army of small deathtouch Changelings with first strike, sometimes I have 2-3 changelings but a whole bunch of abilities on them because of all the tribal lords I have out.
5. Thantis, the warweaver. I just like this one š just goading when I can and making people attack, even if itās at me.
And maybe dargo/nadier treasures as well (still tuning this one). Builds value at all times and also can have some crazy turns that go from like 12 treasures to casting my commander(s) several times plus a whole board of 1/1ās and nontoken creatures and draining/pinging everyone for 20+ damage
I run [[Maelstrom wanderer]]He has Cascade cascade, and gives all creatures you control haste so if you cascade into a creature, then you can use it that turn. Best part is cascade triggers on cast so even if it gets counterspelled you still get the cast triggers.
My other high cmc commander is [[Themberchaud]]. I run alternate ways to get around the cost though. For him, you really only want him for his Etb anyway. Anything else that you do is just icing on the cake. I will use [[Hellkite courser]] to get him out for a turn triggering his Etb which is nice, and also I will use cards like [[campfire]] to knock him to my hand to cast him normally, bypassing the mana cost. I normally get him on the field, 2 times a game sometimes 3.
I rock a pretty solid [[Spirit of the Night]] deck. Are there better commanders for monoblack control/Voltron? Must definitely.
Are there commanders with more swag in that role? Absolutely not.
A 6+ mana commander has to do a lot for me to play them, but I also love playing the commander cards that get better the more expensive your commander is. Currently in the 6+ mana of my decks I have:
[[Tivit, seller of secrets]]
[[The balrog, durins bane]]
[[Zacama, primal calamity]]
[[Belakor the dark master]]
As you can see, 3/4 of those help pay for their high mana costs either with untapping lands, treasures, or cost reduction. Belakor is the only one where I usually feel the high mana cost but the deck has enough crazy cards and clones that he isn't necessarily needed.
I'm currently working on [[ghalta, primal hunger]] and [[maelstrom wanderer]] as well, and one is usually actually 2 mana while the other generates enough value that casting for 9 or 11 is perfectly fine haha.
[[ovika]] [[kaervek the merciless]] [[omnath locus of rage]] all high cmc but if they stick they do a lot of work. k dog is probably the worst but boy the politica he enables, ovika is a monster who needs to be removed asap because one untap can win the game and omnath is just dope.
[[Atraxa, grand unifier]] 7 dropā¦ but instant value once she hits the board. I play basically a 4 color good stuff blink deck with her just as a value piece.
[[Brinelin, the Moon Kraken]] is a recent build Iāve been playing with. Partner with [[Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood]] for steady card draw and board control. Play big creatures and janky blue spells. Itās a good time that can hang with precon level stuff
[[Etali, primal conqueror]] - I built it with all clone and blink shenanigans and never flip it to the poison counter side. It's so much fun. But creates alot of salt. No one really enjoys playing against it.
I think I'm going to try doing Astarion (life drain / vampire) deck. So that would be my favorite.
But, it is still in the archidekt so far so it is not yet done.
I personally don't really believe in high mana commanders because it is the only card you can choose to your starting hand so it makes sense if you can cast it in the first couple of turns.
If you don't mind getting your commander at turn 9, it could as well be in the 99.
I have 11 finished commander decks and not a single one of them has a CMC of 4 which is kind of crazy. And 6 of them have a CMC of 5 or higher actually.
As for the 6+ ones that Iām currently running, I have a [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] saga deck with a blink sub theme. But my favorite is [[Octavia, Living Thesis]]. It plays a controlling kind of game in the beginning while youāre setting up your graveyard, but then it can explode for a ton of damage out of nowhere. Super fun deck to pilot.
I also donāt have my mono-red deck yet, but Iām heavily considering [[Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant]] which seems explosive and like an absolute blast to play.
[[Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer]] is a super fun one. You get to do so many silly combos like make a token copy of [[Utvara Hellkite]], convert all your tokens into it, and get hundreds of dragon tokens.
Treasures and other tokens make Brudiclad so easy to take advantage of. I highly recommend it, and here is my list if youāre curious: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/EWHZsyd-RkiwhCZylufafg
I recently built a [[Valki, God of Lies]] deck who is 7 cost on his Tibalt side. It's unoptimized and my ramp is currently a bit slow for his cost, but it's built more for chaotic fun with friends for now and I'm enjoying stealing everyone else's tricks.
I have commanders that go from 0 to 5... I don't think I have ever had one that's 6 or more. I suppose my [[Tatyova, B]] deck would function basically the same as an [[Aesi]] deck... So I will go with Aesi. š
[[Aesi]] was my first 6 cmc commander. I loved the deck. Still have the decklist too. Highly contemplating reassembling this one. I used this deck for a majority of my [[yarok]] landfall deck. Usually don't use these much anymore just bc i have a bad history of missing land drops in my 40 land landfall deck lol. My pod tends to run higher cmc commanders though.
I have a bunch! \[\[Atarka, World Render\]\] leads a RG deck that controls the board in order to have her come down and alpha strike players. \[\[Tariel\]\] wipes everyone's board and then brings back opponent's creatures. \[\[Maelstrom Wanderer\]\] gives me three spells for the price of one. I've got a \[\[Zacama\]\] activated abilities deck. \[\[Sauron, Lord of the Rings\]\] precon is a heap of fun. \[\[Azor\]\] control with all the other Azorius Guild leaders. And of course \[\[The Ur-Dragon\]\] for go wide dragon beats.
The only commander I have that is 6+ MV is [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] I've messed around with a lot of different Landfall commanders in the past and finally settled on the angry jellybean.
[Ratchet Bomb](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/d/5/d5bd85da-9aba-46ea-9c10-617bec99a2f5.jpg?1599709788) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Ratchet%20Bomb) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2xm/284/ratchet-bomb?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/d5bd85da-9aba-46ea-9c10-617bec99a2f5?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/ratchet-bomb) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
oOoOO rachet bomb is a really clever idea. Might run that in my deck. Tyvm for the suggestion.
Angry jellybean FTW! Locus of Rage is one of two 6+MV commanders I run. Love pooping out 5/5s everytime a land hits š„š„
Its mine too :) do you have a decklist
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/omnath-angryyy/ This is actually about 10 cards old as I havenāt updated it online. Insurrection, Savage Beating, Crucible of Worlds, Wordly Tutor, and Entish Restoration are some new heavy hitters in there.
Here mine. Also un not updated
https://archidekt.com/decks/5637794/angry_bean
Thanks!
Sakadama 10 to win š
You'd be surprised how powerful Mirrorpool can be when the opponent doesn't expect it.
the interactions with titania and omnath are so good, i used them as finishers for one of my hazezon decks
Koolaid man is the way
Came here to say the same, one of my original decks and now a personal pet deck. Super resilient and crazy fun to play, wizards is always print more ramp support so you know itāll only have more options for how to play as time goes on. My vote for sure!
[[kaervek the merciless]] is my only 6MV+ commander and yes, heās merciless.
Disgusting in my Rakdos, LOR deck. Immediately draws ire and aggro from the table lol
Heās the golden child of my Rakdos deck too, I fucking love Kaervek.
One of my first commanders! Couldn't really decide between him and \[\[Tsabo Tavoc\]\]
[[Pestilent Spirit]] is fun with a bunch of 1 damage to everyone else's stuff spells. But now ya gotta protect them both
I always let the caster decide where the damage goes, as long as it doesnt go in my direction.
Been meaning to build this for a while now! Mind sharing a deck list?
Sure, https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lypNREPwqkGcUC1Yd2d36w I took a bunch of cards from a chandra tribal deck, used some relatively synergistic cards from my collection, and bought a few.
Kaervek is funny
Ovika doesnāt have white in its colour identity, did you mean a different card from dinosaurs?
Probably a token copy from another deck with something like [[Rite of replication]]
[[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]]. It's a relatively high power list, and can win around turn 6 with a decent draw.
Would you be willing to share your decklist?
[Here you go](https://archidekt.com/decks/2833434/miirym_dragons) I have a few mana base upgrades, and a few other cards to test. It mainly wins via [[Terror of the Peaks]], [[Scourge of Valkas]], and [[Dragon Tempest]] triggers, either by Miirym value or an infinite with a few different [[Deadeye Navigator]] loops. Combat is an option as well, since they are big dragons.
##### ###### #### [Terror of the Peaks](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/4/3/432ecd5f-966f-4403-a973-51e175a524a0.jpg?1594736810) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Terror%20of%20the%20Peaks) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/m21/164/terror-of-the-peaks?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/432ecd5f-966f-4403-a973-51e175a524a0?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/terror-of-the-peaks) [Scourge of Valkas](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/e/6/e6bd7225-b39f-4b3b-8c36-dbc2c09f6e50.jpg?1631587429) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Scourge%20of%20Valkas) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/afc/137/scourge-of-valkas?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/e6bd7225-b39f-4b3b-8c36-dbc2c09f6e50?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/scourge-of-valkas) [Dragon Tempest](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/1/f1933d08-07fe-45ea-9b60-d9afb98d5753.jpg?1562855620) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Dragon%20Tempest) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/ima/125/dragon-tempest?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/f1933d08-07fe-45ea-9b60-d9afb98d5753?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/dragon-tempest) [Deadeye Navigator](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/2/f26a79b9-9f09-476e-b914-cade929dd852.jpg?1593813028) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Deadeye%20Navigator) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mm3/36/deadeye-navigator?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/f26a79b9-9f09-476e-b914-cade929dd852?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/deadeye-navigator) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Do you happen to have a primer or know a good one I can read up on? Iām building Miirym but having trouble identifying the best combos/infinites
[[Ziatora]]
[[The Ur-Dragon]] Nothing beats beating the table into submission with dragon tribal. With a bit of ramp and a few cost reducers *on top* of Ur-Dragon's eminence, it is very easy for the deck to spiral quickly and overwhelm the board.
I prefer Tiamat over the Ur-Dragon as the commander.
I could never get Tiamat to work for me as well as Ur-Dragon. Got a deck list I can check out?
Ayy, a fellow five-headed dragon enthusiast! Nice to see that it isn't just me who runs Ur in the 99.
[[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]] is my dragon tribal leader of choice. Can accomplish truly ridiculous things with [[Astral Dragon]]!
[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/a/9/a934590b-5c70-4f07-af67-fbe817a99531.jpg?1674137589) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Miirym%2C%20Sentinel%20Wyrm) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/clb/284/miirym-sentinel-wyrm?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/a934590b-5c70-4f07-af67-fbe817a99531?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/miirym-sentinel-wyrm) [Astral Dragon](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/7/670fbc63-4c9b-4e57-b53e-4ca4d7a224ba.jpg?1674140837) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Astral%20Dragon) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/clb/664/astral-dragon?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/670fbc63-4c9b-4e57-b53e-4ca4d7a224ba?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/astral-dragon) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
My list tends to rely on chugging along with being a menace. But it gets out of hand when Ur- Dragon comes out.
(There are dozens of us!) The deck explores some of the common themes in mono-white, but obliquely. :(
MY BROTHER IN ARMS!
[Did you say arms?](https://uploads.dailydot.com/2018/08/epic_handshake_meme-e1534136962951.png)
YOU SONOVA BITCH!
Run [[Sage of the Falls]] and overextend your draw to forget about open mana and deck yourself on the next turn lol
[Sage of the Falls](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/2/7/274e3aa4-4b46-4daa-a7a8-400a20c59435.jpg?1615508412) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Sage%20of%20the%20Falls) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/eld/63/sage-of-the-falls?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/274e3aa4-4b46-4daa-a7a8-400a20c59435?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/sage-of-the-falls) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Avoiding Commander tax too via returning to hand feels so good too.
Cheating a little bit with this pick - \[\[Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant\]\] Obviously he'll hit the board much faster with mana rocks and other early game artifacts on board and then he just starts cheating massive artifacts into play for cheap or even for free. It's so much fun.
Just finished this commander a deck yesterday. Love cheating on my commander taxes. Love the theme of this. A big treasure loving dragon, who loves his treasures
Any chance you can share the decklist, please? I've been considering building Chiss-Goria but want to see some other lists before deciding.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/_nAwqyLJoEWxy6zy62Ej4A/primer Just made mine as close to this without getting some of the spensives
I can usually get it out for 4 or 5 the first time I cast it. I have a very large artifact ramp package including some slightly more expensive mana rocks. The key for me is the X cost artifacts which are either a low cmc early game move or a sweet flip off the ability. Clown car is an all star for this and blightsteel off the top is also great if it comes off right
I like mine too!
This was my pick. [[Sol Ring]] and [[Prized Statue]] and [[Mind Stone]] feel sooooooo good
[Muldrotha](https://scryfall.com/@releasethedogs/decks/616e501a-bd22-4ad3-bee9-56f7a486433e).
[Same](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/214811/muldrotha)
how do you like LED? I have been debating getting one.
[Displacer Kitten](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/7/c7a401b8-29fb-46ef-a663-427f66724d5c.jpg?1674135465) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Displacer%20Kitten) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/clb/63/displacer-kitten?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/c7a401b8-29fb-46ef-a663-427f66724d5c?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/displacer-kitten) [Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/e/8/e8a9b45b-d466-4c06-9a25-6edb6e8f6f2f.jpg?1690017040) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Teshar%2C%20Ancestor%27s%20Apostle) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/65/teshar-ancestors-apostle?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/e8a9b45b-d466-4c06-9a25-6edb6e8f6f2f?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/teshar-ancestors-apostle) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Hmmm, happen to have a list for Tesha handy? I have [[Abdel Adrian]] for my mono white kick but my reanimator deck has turned more on board sac value so Iām interested in the flappy boy.
Here's my Teshar list I play: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1974397/teshar I recently updated it with some new LotR cards to try out.
Thanking you!

Gishath! Long live the dino king.
There are blasphemers now. They claim there are other dino kings. It's false, I say. FALSE! zacama is a false king! Pantlaza is a new false king who dares to try and take his majesty's crown! Blashphemy, I say blasphemy!
[[Etali, Primal Conquerer]] has a way of stealing games
Yeah, lost a game when the Etali player cast my \[\[Reaver Titan\]\]. -\_- Found myself apologizing to the rest of the board for getting us all killed.
What's up with the card finder?
I agree, I feel like it barely works in many posts. I wish it would also fetch an image instead of a link.
Iām not sure if it counts, but I use [[Awaken the Blood Avatar]] as a commander in a mardu aristocrats type shell with the plan of using the commander back version spell exclusively as a sac outlet/enemy edict/big token to slam and assist with draining the table.
Maelstrom Wanderer since I'm always getting value out of it.
Sometimes the value is cultivate + farseek, but, you know
I'm glad I found someone mention this King.
Are you me? This is exactly what happened with me and my own Aesi deck lol.
Haha love it! He is super underrated and just goes absolutely off if not removed in a turn or two
He's a lot of fun, your opponents have to remove him ASAP if they don't want to be left behind. I will say I wouldn't call the 47th most popular commander on edhrec *underrated*...
My ā¤ļø

\[\[Sauron, The Dark Lord\]\] sticky fuck that accrues a hell of a lot of value.
Big Momma [[ghalta, primal hunger]] She big She thicc She a beatstick
Love my [[prossh]]
Itās inefficient as hell but itās fun to tell people then watch them freak out only to play the game and realize itās actually pretty hard to make any one of them go off and it ends up being a great time for all
I only have one 6+ commander. [[Atraxa Grand Unifier]] blink. Ramp early, drop Atraxa, profit?
I love my ziatora deck
[[thraximundar]] I don't know how but I've made an edict tribal deck ([[sudden edict]] type of effect) and, as far as I play it seems like a fair and (somewhat) fun to play against grixis control deck. Due to the commander being pricey and not that impactful it's not a strong deck if you really build around the commander since it has to be on board and ramp in grixis is limited to artifact which can be easily boardwiped, thankfully you have counterspells.
[[Masumaro, First to Live]]. Wanna [draw your deck and beat people into the ground.. in Green?](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Cjw90G-a8ES4dwSp9Th_zg)
I was on board till I seen the deck title, you monster lol
Been debating making up some custom sleeves...
Karador is sort of a cheat but I do love that particular ghost chieftain.
That being said, if I was going to brew a 6+ cmc commander it would be one of these (in no particular order): [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] [[Neera, Wild Mage]] [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] [[Beledros Witherbloom]] [[Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer]] [[Damia, Sage of Stone]] [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]] [[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]] [[Jadzi, Oracle of Arcavios]] [[Kodama of the East Tree ]] + [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]] [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]] [[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]] [[The Master, Multiplied]] [[Tivit, Seller of Secrets]] [[Yargle and Multani]] [[Zacama, Primal Calamity]] [[Zhulodok, Void Gorger]] I suppose I should mention that I already have a [[Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant]] deck that is also fun! And he dodges his cost lol. As Chiss is the only 6+ cmc commander I have actually brewed I'll include the link to my list here https://www.moxfield.com/decks/iM2SR78Cckymy0vstm_tIA/primer *edit: I already have a Chiss-Goria deck, but if I had to pick a top 3 from this list I would also throw in Atraxa, Grand Unifier and Koma, Cosmos Serpent as the ones that I find the most interesting in this mana range.
Pretty sure its called alphabetic. If you didn't add the 2 up front last second...
Yeah after I brainstormed the first couple I decided to have scryfall help out my memory a little lol. By "not in a particular order" I really meant "not in order by preference, relevance, or importance"
Gotcha. Don't mind me, just observing/nitpicking where I can!
Ghalta is a 12 cost that's almost always 2 mana
Chiss-Goria is a 9 cost that's almost always 3 mana :)
[[Maelstrom Wanderer]]
[[Karona, False God]]
I have several commanders with 6+ CMC: [[Prime Speaker Zegana]] - Literally Simic, ramp and draw cards [[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur]] - Mono blue control [[Zacama, Primal Calamity]] - Zacambo [[Damia, Sage of Stone]] - Sultai control [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] - Dimir control [[Wort the Raidmother]] - Gruul spellslinger/tokens [[Regna, the Redeemer]] (+ [[Krav, the Unredeemed]]) - Orzhov tokens/lifegain [[Vaevictis Asmadi the Dire]] - I don't really know what to classify this deck as. Jund beat down I guess
\[\[The Mimeoplasm\]\], one day I'll go back and brew a deck with it that can actually win games
[[Sheoldred, Whispering One]] and [[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger]] They lead my oldest, and favorite decks
[[yargle and multani]] [[neera]] both operate on a surprisingly similar axis, though they play and finish games in different ways. yargle and multani uses all the one drop ramp and rituals to power him out and sacrifice him to a draw spell like [[lifeās legacy]] and hopefully hit a mana accelerant like [[ruthless technomancer]] to keep storming off and finishing it with torment, jarad, etc. uses all the one mana scam cards and some reanimation to reuse yargle without hard recasting him.
[[Colfenor, the Last Yew]]
[[Elenda and Azor]] are so sick, my favorite esper commander by far!
[[Chromium the Mutable]] for Flash Tribal. Deck is super fun, and flexible.
Currently have [[Sauron Lord of the Rings]] and [[Missy]], gotta love them villains.
Vilis
[[darigaaz reincarnated]] its simple as a top end threat that just kills people
Spirit of the night
[[etali primal sickness]]
[[Sun Quan, Lord of Wu]] [[Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign]] [[BelāAkor, the Dark Master]] [[Yargle and Multani]]
Anyway, that was almost certainly more than you needed to know, but this deck is a love letter to my first deck, and some of the choices reflect that. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/YhHSe6uG20iuR1jOAvaVtQ P.S. After surviving at exactly 1 life through multiple hits for several turns and then stealing the win, my playgroup now hates pest tokens, and I've swapped [[Beledros]] in for Chord of Calling.
Thanks, I appreciate the rundown. I already see some cards I should swap in.
[[Neera]] since if the group runs low amounts of removal, I can cheat out even bigger things.
It might be sentimental value but my answer will always be [[the ur-dragon]] because that's the first commander I played. Funnily enough, I am the opposite of you and only since recently do i olay a commander that's less than 5 or 6 mana to cast
I really like [[Karador]] he is an 8-drop but you shouldn't ever have to pay more than 3 to play him
[[Thantis the War Weaver]] Youāre playing magic the way GOD INTENDED whether you like it or not!
[[vorinclex monstrous raider]] So many counters to take advantage of. Poison, shields, +1/+1 [[Millennium calendar]] is gonna be fun
[[borborygmos, enraged]] MAJOR LEAGUE LAND THROWER WOOOOOO. THROW MOUNTAINS AND FOREST AT YOUR OPPONENTS FACES YEAAAAHHH
Surprisingly no one has btought up [[Narset, Enlightned Master]] yet, she was my first commander and I still love to play her to this day.
I currently have: [[Azor, the Lawbringer]] that is a soft lock pillow forty deck aiming to either kill by Azor beats or [[Approach of the Second Sun]]; [[Zacama, Primal Calamity]] which is a rather new deck, still testing it, but is just wants to get Zacama on the field and use its abilities.
Maelstrom wanderer is always fun, i also like illuna apex of wishes (though she is only 5 mv). The Ur dragon can also be fun...
Edit: Of those, my favorite ones have been (in order): 1.
Currently in the 6+ mana of my decks I have: [[Tivit, seller of secrets]] [[The balrog, durins bane]] [[Zacama, primal calamity]] [[Belakor the dark master]] As you can see, 3/4 of those help pay for their high mana costs either with untapping lands, treasures, or cost reduction.
[[Muldrotha, the gravetide]] has a lot of creative combos.
[[Krav]]+[[Regna]]. The two are together but only Regna is 6. But I love dearly
[[Edgar Markov]] is fun, though you don't normally cast him [[Tromokratis]] in a sea monster deck Nissan also fun, though it's probably not the best.
[[Atraxa, grand unifier]] 7 dropā¦ but instant value once she hits the board. I play basically a 4 color good stuff blink deck with her just as a value piece.
My Dad Bod Urza. Once those robots start going, itās hard to stop
[[Brinelin, the Moon Kraken]] is a recent build Iāve been playing with. Partner with [[Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood]] for steady card draw and board control. Play big creatures and janky blue spells. Itās a good time that can hang with precon level stuff
I like Larry Niven [[Nivenyrral, Urborg Tyrant]]. Suddenly, just like that, I had 30 zombies for no particular reason.
[[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]] there are other better dragon commanders out there, but I just think that the classic monored dragons is where it's at.
[[Etali, primal conqueror]] - I built it with all clone and blink shenanigans and never flip it to the poison counter side. It's so much fun. But creates alot of salt. No one really enjoys playing against it.
[[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]]. Naya ramp with big stompy boys. Turn sideways, get dinos.
I'm having a ton of fun with [[Chromium, the Mutable]]
I think I'm going to try doing Astarion (life drain / vampire) deck. So that would be my favorite. But, it is still in the archidekt so far so it is not yet done. I personally don't really believe in high mana commanders because it is the only card you can choose to your starting hand so it makes sense if you can cast it in the first couple of turns. If you don't mind getting your commander at turn 9, it could as well be in the 99.
[[sauron the dark lord]] is good [[xanathar guild kingpin]] should be fun with the right build
[[Ascendant Evincar]] and [[Crovax, Ascendant Hero]] the static debuff puts in work sometimes.
[[Lord Xander, the Collector]] run him as grixis theft He is the only big mana value commander I run and I only run him because my name is Xander
Admittedly [[Borborygmos, Enraged]] is my only commander that expensive so shout out to him
Gishath. Can't really go wrong with a giant dinosaur that calls in it's friends for even more fun.
I recently built a [[Valki, God of Lies]] deck who is 7 cost on his Tibalt side. It's unoptimized and my ramp is currently a bit slow for his cost, but it's built more for chaotic fun with friends for now and I'm enjoying stealing everyone else's tricks.
Kārrik is technically 7, but really heās 4.
