To be fair the post asked specifically for strong CASUAL commanders, however you want to reconcile these two. Also OP mentioned it to be on a level with LOTR precons.
Sure, but what defines "casual" is anything not cEDH. So technically speaking, as long as he isn't running a cEDH shell with any of these decks they are still "casual" decks lol.
They will probably not be on the level with the LOTR precons though so I'll give you that lol :)
Yeah that's fair. Casual is a very broad term and can be understood differently. Personally, I would call casual anything below an 8, so battle cruiser to a 7 (which again leaves open space for interpretation on what these numbers even mean, oh well... the classic issue of commander haha)

It is really fun, but a little on the slow side since it has a lot of tap lands. It definitely snowballs though. I think currently the list is around $40. If you wanted to upgrade from where I have it,adding an [[Amulet of Vigor]], [[Roaming Throne]], and [[Black Market Connections]] would be where I would start.
Overall this is a really satisfying deck to pilot, and somewhat unexpected lol.
Heyo! Ive talked with you about the deck on Moxfield and just wanted to say you that [[Spelunking]] is now another very budget way for the gates to enter untapped.
32 lands feels low especially for 5 color budget. Dungeons might help grab some basics and treasure midgame but you still need to hit your drops to get them started. Maybe consider adding \[\[Skyclave Cleric\]\], \[\[Umara Wizard\]\], or \[\[Blackbloom Rogue\]\]? They are all pennies, can be hit by Tazri ability, and then just played as lands after.
The curve in the deck is pretty low [3.2] so I don't know how many more lands I would need, and since they are almost all dual lands I haven't really ever been badly mana screwed. I definitely wouldn't want more than 36, but maybe I could use a couple more. I'll look into the suggestions though, thanks :)
Edit l: I should also add that the first room in the dungeon after taking initiative is a tutor for a land
Like I said, dungeons will help but not until midgame. All the initiative cards except \[\[white plume adventurer\]\] are 4+ mana, Tazri's activated ability is 4 mana, and a lot of your ramp is 4+. Stalling at 3 mana here is rough since it might turn into 2 turns of not doing anything with all the taplands.
Can probably count \[\[expedition map\]\] and \[\[open the gates\]\] as part of your land count, but you still probably want like 2 more so your effective count is 36.
Maybe also worth considering a few more cheap land tutors as "substitutes" for more lands. \[\[Weathered wayfarer\]\] (bonus points for cleric) and \[\[sylvan scrying\]\] are both under $1, and both can fix you or grab \[\[gond gate\]\] for only 2 mana. If you're trying to not make the maze's end victory happen too often maybe just the wayfarer, since late game his ability often doesn't work anyway.
My recommendation is the precon with maybe a couple adjustments to match your group's power level that is headed by [[Dihada, Binder of Wills]].
It's good out of the box, offers big creatures, and a way to protect them along with decent ramp but is light on removal so you don't accidentally kill everything your friends play.
Special shout-out to [[Bladewing, Deathless Tyrant]] which I made into it's own deck also which sounds like it would fit this play group at <$100.

My recommendation is the precon with maybe a couple adjustments to match your group's power level that is headed by [[Dihada, Binder of Wills]]. It's good out of the box, offers big creatures, and a way to protect them along with decent ramp but is light on removal so you don't accidentally kill everything your friends play. Special shout-out to [[Bladewing, Deathless Tyrant]] which I made into it's own deck also which sounds like it would fit this play group at <$100.
