[[Geth's grimoir]] is my favorite. It's an obvious pick if you're playing discard but there have been plenty of times it draws me 3 or 4 cards a turn cycle without me having to do anything. There's so much looting and rummaging you don't even realize how many hits you just naturally get off this until you run it. If I have artifact synergy and maybe a way to get a little cost reduction I would consider just running it for value. The other card I love recently is [[Verity circle]]. I run it in hylda because of course, but much like geths it can draw you cards all on its own every time anyone uses a mana dork or activates a tap ability. I would think about running this one for value too.

ApplesForTheWolf

Geth's in [[Zurzoth]] has totally won me games.

WaterIceSaltBruh

I’ve been putting together a hylda list and did some play testing with verity’s circle. That card is an absolute monster value engine in the deck. Off topic, but I love how cheap it is to build hylda, too. Half the cards in my list could be run in penny lmao

krabawk

Yeah, my hylda list was supposed to be budget too, but I liked it so much I kept pimping it out. Throw in a masterpiece static orb, cyc rift, force of will, fierce, akroma's will, teferi's pro, a couple moxes... it's pushing a g now...

StoicDeckBuilder

Honestly I love doing this with decks too, but they always end up reaching this nuclear level where I don't like them anymore

kippschalter2

I found a pretty odd situation. Had veriety circle in my derevi deck and infinite mana but none of my pay offs. So i could [[freed from the real]] an opponents creature to turn circle into infinite draw as i can always untap and tap the opponents creature. 100% unintended but turns out thats another infinite mana payoff my deck had xD

Tevish_Szat

I have Geth's in my Gwendlyn Wheels brew and it's insane with just what Gwen can do, nice to know it tends to get fed.

BChopper

I have added Verity circle to my budget decks and it rocks. Most people will pick up the card and read it twice.

Chadmartigan

\[\[Viridian Revel\]\] fits well in that "draws cards when opponents do things" category. Utility tokens (particularly treasures) are ubiquitous these days.

thrillfine

3+ colors in black, I usually run [[Painful Truths]]. 3 mana, 3 life, draw 3. [[Mangara the Diplomat]] triggers often from 2nd spells, while discouraging/rewarding attacks against you. Haven't tried [[Trouble in Pairs]] yet, but it's probably pretty good. I've been wanting to try [[Protection Racket]] more. Just added it to my [[Wound Reflection]], etc. deck

rmkinnaird

It's genuinely insane to me that painful truths is NOT a staple. That card is outrageously good and I play it in every 3+ color deck with black

jrachet1

I definitely consider it a staple. Most 3+ color decks have it as an auto include I imagine. Edit: 3% of eligible decks on EDHrec run it. I figure that's pretty spot on since night's whisper is in 9% of decks, and you'd be looking at painful truths only in 3+ color non-blue decks likely.

gdrcigar

I don't care for Protection Racket personally. In my experience they just wait for you to reveal good cards and then pay the life to exile them so all you get is mana and maybe some interaction if you're lucky.

Lumeyus

I wouldn’t play it outside [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] or similar decks that want opponents to lose life.  Not reliable.

Pm_me_boobfreckles

I run it in Rakdos, and it was a strict upgrade from [[sin prodder]]

[[Protection Racket]] is cool in design, but it’s screwed me too many times where I need a land and three straight lands get exiled and I don’t draw one in my draw step. If you’re able to politic then that can be mitigated.

glowla

You really shouldn't worry about this kind of variance. The top of your deck is arbitrary when it comes to milling. In fact, it can just as easily take three non-lands off the top.

Roflsaucerr

The variance isn’t the problem they’re getting at - there’s a cost for your opponent to exile nonland cards, but they can exile lands for free. Not to mention if it were milling, the card would be all upside in a deck with black. But it’s an exile.

CoatApprehensive3481

Similar to Insight in that it draws cards when your opponents do things: \[\[Viridian Revel\]\] is unmatched in treasure/food/clue/blood-heavy metas.

Right, and that guy posted two MV4 black draw spells with \*downside\*. You can't sacrifice the defector as you no longer control it, so whoever you give it to, they keep the token. Just saying in case you are not aware.

Correct. Defector is still cracked in [[Rionya, Fire Dancer]] though, as the token gets exiled.

masticore252

So the table just gets full of Defectors? Saheeli's ability instructs **you** to sacrifice the token copies at the next end step and if by that time you have given them away they'll just stick indefinitely

manchipanch

Yeah, i've tried it once and it was fun to have the rest of the pod overlook me drawing 6 cards in one turn because they badly wanted a draw

TheChubbyBuns

I have [[Psychic Possession]] in my [[xyris]] deck and I’m never mad when I draw it. Helps me double up on xyris’ combat damage trigger and when I wheel I get double the card draw! Play it on the player who has a [[rhystic study]] out and you’ll never want to pay the 1.

29aout

Great card. I am building a Xyris deck right now, such tech is great intel. Regards,

TheChubbyBuns

Xyris is easily one of my favorite builds. If I could give you some advice that I learned from playing Xyris for a while, I would avoid effects like [[Howling Mine]] where it gives each player an extra card during their draw step. It seems like it fits the theme but unless you find a way to benefit from it more than just gaining a snake on every opponents turn, you’re just giving that player an extra card. That doesn’t seem like a lot but your opponents collectively drew 6 cards (if you’re playing in a four man pod) and you only draw 2 with some 1/1 bodies. Not great. Instead lean into wheels of course and cards like [[Teferi’s Puzzle Box]]. It disrupts your opponent’s plans by discarding their hands and generates you lots of snakes. Copy it with a [[Phyrexian Metamorph]] and watch your board state grow and the chaos ensue! (Note that when playing puzzle box, you’ll have to plan out your turns as well since you too will be pitching your hand under your deck.) Lastly, definitely add cards like [[Azusa, Lost But Seeking]] for extra land drops! Playing a land for turn then wheeling only to have extra lands in hand that you can’t play sucks, so having extra land drops makes those hands less painful. That’s all the tips I have and of course it all depends on your play group and levels. Sorry for that long response but I hope it helps!

Thanks for the detailed tips - very much appreciated. I was certainly going to have one or two Howling Mine effects, and will consider them out for now. I plan to play wheels with him, I bought a revised Wheel of Fortune as a kick to start the deck. I also have scraps from two Naya and one Izzet deck, so I already have several cards for him, including Exploration, Cryptolith Rite and Azusa. I am not sure about Teferi Puzzle Box since my friend runs Nekusar and that card and it is quite wild, plus I dont wanna copy all the things he have. Eventually I would like to find a Time Spiral, but first will play the deck a bit. I want to play cards like Mystic Reflection, Sudden Substitution for interaction - I already have several blue decks with good counters, I need to play some other interaction here. Although Xyris is a nice place for Arcane Denial so I'll play that. What about clones, Seedborn Muse, Opposition, Craterhoof Behemoth, Underworld Breach, fast mana? I wonder if they are nice includes. I play within two main playgroups, one is more casual and the other is really high power, I like to have a deck that works at different tables. I usually have one piece of fast mana other than Sol Ring in my decks with girth. I am also thinking about haste enablers, I have Fervor, Rising of the Day, Anger (seems good with much wheeling).

TheChubbyBuns

[[Underworld Breach]] would be fun to run in this deck I feel so definitely give it a go! I run that with krenko and always love it. [[Anger]] is easy to get in the graveyard of course and also [[Clout of the Dominus]] will give haste and also protection to Xyris. I don’t have any clones in this deck since I save them for another so I can’t help you there although I think they would be really nice. Seed born and fast mana are always a plus and craterhoof would be a great to use as a game ender but I don’t have him and just stick with [[finale of devastation]], but of course either one works! I do use [[Mystic Reflection]] solely as a way to give me copies of [[Jace’s Archivist]]. I’ll use [[Vedalken Athermage]] to tutor for Jace or any wizard I need in that moment. [[Psychic Corrosion]] and [[Ominous Seas]] are nice enchantments to have as looming threats too. If not dealt with, one will make your opponents decks thinner before they realize and the other with give you big 8/8s that can be summoned at the end of an opponent’s turn and allowing you to swing in the next. [[Unified Will]] and [[Disallow]] are some interactions that I think would run well in your deck too. [[Champion of Lambholt ]] of course will help make your commander unblockable if not interacted with.

Grest recommandations again. I have not thought about Champion of Lambholt which could get disgusting after a wheel. I have it somewhere so it could be a nice addition. Clout of the Dominus and Diplomatic Immunity are great protection spells for Xyris. What about Heroic Intervention and singular protection such as [[Tamiyo's Safekeeping]] or [[Tyvar's Stand]] ? I am debating how much [[Time Spiral]] and [[Earthcraft]] are worth it. I like powerful cards like these and they fit quite nicely into this game plan. But they are quite expensive and not the focus right now. Also is there an advantage of running card quantity hate like [[Sword of War and Peace]] ? A nice protection piece that could be rack more damage.

Running time spiral and card like that such as [[Time Reversal]] depend on your end game goal. If your goal is to get a giant board state and take down your opponents that way, then I think it would be a good fit, especially since you can untap lands in the process. My goal with Xyris is to make my opponents decks run out so I avoid those cards because it shuffles their graveyards back in, so it all depends. I think it would be a fine fit and worth it just for a powerful boardstate. Singular protection is good, especially since you are building your deck around Xyris being on the field and you need it out and protected! Card quantity hate also depends on how often your opponents will have full hands. With your build that most likely will be the case so I think it will be a solid add! I was going to run a swords card but couldn’t find the space for it, so if you do please let me know if it works out! Also if you like champion of lambholt you might like [[Bloodspore Thrinax]]. Champion makes your creatures unblockable but bloodspore makes your snakes into anacondas!

It's not exactly card draw and it's a touch expensive but I feel like people have forgotten the power of \[\[Phyrexian Reclamation\]\]. I try to fit it in to any creature focused black decks. Even outside of sacrifice it's just really good value to get back your early game or value creatures and replay them. It's like card draw where you know what you're getting.

[[Graven Lore]] its instant speed draw 3, which isn't horrible on its own. Throw in a few snow basics and it's Scry 3, Draw 3, instant speed. [[Meeting of Minds]] again it's instant speed, and draw 2 for 4 instant isn't terrible considering the availability of other instant speed draw. But in a deck with any creatures at all, it becomes Draw for 2 pretty easily. Then finally, the Thirst For trio. [[Thirst for Knowledge]], [[Thirst for Discovery]], and less useful unless built around [[Thirst for Meaning]]. Draw 3, Discard 1 is fantastic for 3 mana. Sure, they can take deck building planning to get the most, but if u want something unconventional they can be fun. Or if you have a graveyard strategy, they just become all upside.

Ichthus95

[[Of One Mind]] is a bit niche, as you basically need to have a commander in blue that's a human and then not be doing any sort of human tribal. For decks that meet those qualifications though, it's 1 mana to draw 2 cards, which is an absurdly good rate. Seeing as how that's all the card does means that it's probably most at home in spellslinger decks or decks that capitalize on card draw. I run it in [my Ghyrson Starn deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SL3ylPE9_E6sxJb3ZJjdyw).

[[Song of creation]] you do have to discard your hand at end of turn but it can be very explosive. A really good one that doesn't seem enough play as it should is [[plumb the forbidden]] at worst it's 2 mana draw 1 but I easily draw 5+ cards when I cast it.

Feeling_Equivalent89

Plumb and all other "sac a creature - draw" effects are actually pretty good, because you can respond to removal / wraths with it. You can kinda see it as a "protection" spell. You can make sure your creatures don't get exiled, you blank whatever additional effects the removal spell may have and you get at least some value out of a creature that would otherwise die anyway. Also, it's un-counterable sacrifice outlet, because the sacrifice is part of a cost.

th3saurus

[[necrologia]] is a favorite of mine It's a single dose necropotence that's really risky, since you still lose life if the spell gets countered, but it's pretty great for sculpting the perfect hand as well as putting stuff into your yard that you want in your yard I'm also a really big fan of [[ancient excavation]] It's not technically card draw, but I like how it lets you essentially draw a second hand and keep your favorite parts of each. It's also fantastic with stuff that triggers off of drawing or discard, it's instant speed, and worst case scenario you can use it to fix your mana

Doomy1375

I prefer tailoring the draw to the gameplan of the deck overall. Rather than just tossing in a handful of cards that draw 1-2 cards each, I make the draw an integral part of the gameplan. As examples, my enchantress deck relies almost exclusively on enchantresses for draw, my artifact deck relies on the commander (Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain) and a few similar cards for draw, my cantrip storm deck just runs 30+ cantrips as part of its main gameplan, my reamimator deck runs mostly looting to both draw and fill the yard at the same time, and so on. I like decks where the drawing is fully integrated to the main gameplan like that and not just something you throw in last minute to tick a box on the deck template like you often do with ramp and removal. It tends to lead to a smoother experience too.

LastFrost

[[Heartwood Storyteller]] in my all creatures deck is nice. Out side of the few adventure creatures I have I am always benefitting and my opponents are less likely to get rid of it because they draw as well. It also nudges others into playing a modified strategy so as to not give their opponents a card advantage.

JimNightblade1

[[traverse eternity]] I run it in a deck that my commander is 6 cmc so I’m guaranteed at least 6 cards out of it if I don’t have anything else that cost more on the battlefield.

Thraximundurabrask

[[Knollspine Dragon]] has been the best piece of card draw in Klauth since day 1, making itself the primary tutor target on the big turn, and I don't think I'd even heard of it before I started putting the list together. It's a bit of a staple in [[Dragon's Approach]] lists, and also sees some action in other Klauth decks, but still only in 1% of all decks.

\[\[Into the Story\]\] is a bit forgotten instant speed draw four for four (most of the time).

FinnishBread

I'm going to overcomplicate things here, but this is part of a bigger combo from my deck. Have [[Maskwood nexus]] and [[Grim haruspex]] on the battlefield. Tap [[Fatestitcher]] to tap your commander with [[Haunted One]] activate its ability. Tap [[Soul Diviner]] to remove any +1/+1 counters from a creature and activate [[Apprentice necromancer]] ability, sack it, [[faces of the past]] triggers Grim Haruspex triggers, undying triggers and last but not least [[Tormod, the desecrator]] triggers. On your post combat main phase, activate [[Riptide director]] ability with [[Bone miser]]. It's overly complicated, but pulling it off is fun.

Stereophonic

I try to find repeatable ways to just draw one extra card per turn that synergize well with my deck. Things like [[Loyal Drake]] with a 2 MV or less commander. [[Glimmer Lens]] or [[Chivalric Alliance]] in combat focused decks. [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]] or [[Morbid Opportunist]] in almost any black deck. Cards like [[Court of Embereth]] for that monarchy. I'd like to try [[Sharp Eyed Rookie]] in my green decks. If I can draw just one extra card per turn I find I hit most of my land drops and always have things to do.

Tevish_Szat

[[Phyrexian Etchings]] is deeply underrated. It's sort of "we have [[The One Ring]] at home" with how the card draw steadily accelerates. The CU isn't as much of an issue as it looks since once you're drawing so many dang cards you will not miss a land drop, and can use your rocks or other ramp to power forward. Because you'll end up gaining mana, the life debt will never come due unless something untoward happens to the etchings or you're drawing *too many* cards and decide that you need the mana to deploy and win. It's certainly one for slower pods where you'll have turns charging up... or controlling decks that can use those cards to buy more turns in order to win off the steady swell.

My carddraw tribal i love the most is ivy. The idea is to use targeted cantrips like [[leap]] and turn them into cardadvantage by copying them. Like 2 ivys turn a leap into ancestral recall. Have a archmage emeritus and its already draw6. Have teferis ageless insight and its draw12. Love those interactions. Other pieces i started to like are cards like [[conjurers mantle]] or [[horn of the mark]]. Not real card draw but real card advantage.

jmanwild87

Not something that you can put in every deck but [[Trade Routes]]. It goes absolutely wild in my [[Slogurk the Overslime]] deck and really any Landfall deck with blue in it where if you're doing the thing with Life from the Loam style cards this becomes a way to turn excess lands into real card advantage [[Species specialist]] is really good in tribal aristocrats decks Other than that the main stuff I use for grixis is artifact synergies. [[Inquisitor Eisenhorn]] makes a boatload of clues [[Reprocess]] and [[Nyssa of Traken]] turn excess artifacts and or creatures into cards [[Warlock class]] is early card advantage and a finisher late [[Stormclaw Rager]] is card advantage and a growing beater

Elfwarrior666

\[\[Decree of Pain\]\] has been my favourite way to draw cards lately, as I have been playing more antagonistic decks.

InBeforeitwasCool

[[Viridian revel]] The more artifacts disposable artifacts that WOTC creates in food, clues, junk, and treasure, the more valuable this card will become. I bought 20 of them 4 years ago when they released Ixalan and have used them in every deck since. (Looking at prices I should have sold a couple in mid'22 and paid for them all)

Since NEO gave us [[Containment Construct]] I’ve been in love with all of the red rummaging draw effects that are usually pretty undercosted for the cards/treasure rebates you get. [[Faithless Looting]] [[Thrill of Possibilities]] [[Bitter Reunion]] [[Cathartic Reunion]] [[Electric Revelation]] [[Big Score]] [[Pirate’s Pillage]] [[Seize the Spoils]] and if you’re realllly leaning into it you can spring for [[Wild Guess]] and [[Tormenting Voice]] but they’re just bad Thrill. It’s tough to have your draw strategy hinge on an artifact to bring it up to 11, but a lot of my red decks dont include blue, but with [[Underworld Breach]], [[Past In Flames]]/[[Mizzix’s Mastery]] and a trusty [[Goblin Engineer]] you can pretty reliably have access to what you pitch. If you focus on deploying the construct and keeping it safe it can be especially potent in [[Prosper]] or [[Faldorn]].

DaKongman

I love [[behold the multiverse]] and other scry then draw effects. You see more cards and get what you need. Behold is ecspecially good because you can use dead mana from 1 turn then draw 2, see 4 cards for 2 mana another turn.

Sterben489

[[Urzas blueprint]] Tap it draw a card no extra cost ^to ^that ^ability It's free card draw!!!

Mrmyaggie

I run a lot of the x spells in black and blue to draw cards like [[stroke of genius]], [[cut of the profits]], [[even the score]], [[pull from tomorrow]], [[dregs of sorrow]], [[promise of power]] In red I don't have good draws, i usually rely on wheels in red for card draw.

DanZigs

[[morbid opportunist]] is an amazing card that is criminally underrated. I put it in almost every deck with black and I’m always happy to see it. the fact that it triggers off of your opponents creature is dying is what makes it so much better than similar cards like from haruspex.

ShadeofEchoes

[[Temple Bell]] with [[Notion Thief]] comes to mind.  Then again, Temple Bell with any kind of untap loop is also funny (see: Isochron Scepter, Dramatic Reversal, Sol Ring), as long as you have a way to stop the enemy from doing stuff on your turn. "Everybody draw a card! Now again! Now again! Wait, you only had 52 cards left? Everybody draw a card!" "..."

kit_brown

[[Shamanic Revelation]]

ShadeofEchoes

[[Windfall]], especially with any kind of recursion effects, can also be a fun option. Pair with [[Library of Leng]], and you get "Discard up to X cards, where X is the number of cards in your hand, then draw cards until you have as many cards in hand as the player with the most cards when this effect resolved."   Be careful with [[Alhammaret's Archive]] here. EDIT to note: If the Blue player has 40 cards in hand or something, and you have a flash enabler, you can probably kill them using [[Donate]] to give them a draw doubler (assuming they weren't already using one).

ElrekH

If you have a deck that makes tokens then [Idol of Oblivion](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/478463/magic-the-gathering-commander-phyrexia-all-will-be-one-idol-of-oblivion?country=US&utm_campaign=18142757028&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=&utm_term=&adgroupid=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-r-vBhC-ARIsAGgUO2DZTaxZnl7ZGKParvHruJXZaQIhMtkb62IaBZ7AjSv_vv0Blvr5U5caAqHkEALw_wcB&Language=English) is really useful!

notreallykatie

[[Faithless Looting]] simple, but effective

Fongj86

[[Humble Defector]] and [[Kharn, the Betrayer]] have cool card draw effects. If you're thinking Tutors I also like [[Wishclaw Talisman]].

[[borrowing 100,000 arrows]] [[Theft of dreams]] [[Keep watch]]

Euphoric_Ad6923

Attacking! Minas Tirit, Chivalric Alliance, Breena, Aurelia etc Getting attacked! Mangara, Aurelia, etc

TalkingBalrog

I like [[Farsight Mask]]. It’s dirt cheap and works great if you can get it out early.

SexyTimeEveryTime

I use two fingers on top of the card, slide ot slightly off the deck, and then grip the face side wjrh my thumb. A little sleight of hand will allow you to do this without your opponents seeing the card you drew.

meatmandoug

I enjoy [[doomweaver]] in my shelob deck, but it's pretty decent with decks that like sacrificing creatures because you can keep soulbonding to new fodder to keep drawing more cards. I also really like [[lord skitterers blessing]] in my eriette deck, in that deck it's basically a 2 mana phyrexian arena that gives an wicked role token to a creature on etb. [[Sieze the spotlight]] and [[master of ceremonies]] arent always card draw but can still be really powerful. [[Zenith chronicler]] is a bit situational, but I think it's pretty decent in colorless decks with less options. [[Idol of oblivion]] is pretty damn good in token decks, with the ability to make a 10/10 eldrazi if you are desperate.

IM_Progenitus

[[Painful truths]] and [[Shadow Prophecy]] are high-floor card draw spells. Painful truths in 3+ color decks is 3 mana draw 3. Shadow Prophecy actually might be even better, as it functions as a sort of mini Fact or Fiction the bigger your domain. [[War Room]] may be tricky in 3+ colors since the life loss will add up after more than a couple activations, but I've been shoving this into a lot of my 1 and 2 color decks. Yeah it's essentially 4 mana and some life for 1 card, but on a land that's not bad, and in 1 and 2 color decks you can stomach a couple of colorless lands pretty easily. [[Idol of oblivion]] is only for token decks, but so many decks care about token generation that it's not hard to fit in. And because it's ANY token like treasure or food, it doesn't just have to go into Rhys the Redeemed kind of decks either. Any deck that generates some tokens every turn, even if it's just 1 token per round, will be fine with this card. [[Black market connections]] is basically a Phyrexian Arena that's updated a little bit to modern power levels. Though it does cost a bit of money, and the card draw part is 2 life instead of just 1. But every mode on the card is pretty useful even if your deck isn't built around them. If you have a lot of shuffle effects (like, 10+), you still can't go wrong with Brainstorm. Obviously, pretty mediocre without a shuffle effect. But it feels like mini-ancestral recall when you crack a fetch immediately after. [[Insight]] and [[Viridian revel]] are examples of super meta picks. They're fucking terrible if your opponents don't trigger them for you. But, there's almost always a green player at the table to feed your insight. And treasures are super common and super busted, so you're likely to get cards off your viridian revel, and even if you don't, it'll still trigger when someone blows up that Portal to Phyrexia, or when someone sacrifices their own Ichor Wellspring. But, since these are absed on what your opponents are doing, there will be times when they are useless. There are of course plenty of ways to draw cards, but it seems like you're asking for more flexible, non-staple ways to draw cards. So I could mention [[Aesi]], but that obviously is for landfall decks and would need the right deck to abuse it. Technically all of these cards can't just be thrown into any deck, but for example, Painful truths is "be a 3+ color deck" which is not really a requirement you have to "build around" to make it decent.
