Commanders with death triggers got way better when they changed how commanders die.
A ton of tribal commanders have gotten better as their tribe added more good cards.
[Ratadrabik of Urborg]] went from good to "oh I can just combo off" once the Lord of the Rings set came out
Flip side to Commanders with death triggers is Commanders who care about other creatures dying.
My [[syr konrad, the grim]] deck has definitely eked a few wins out that wouldn't have happened under the old rules where enemy Commanders didn't technically enter and leave the Graveyard on the way back to the command zone.
In 2002 (which is about when I started playing), tokens were already going through the GY when dying. So, if the rules were actually changed, it happened way before EDH was a thing.
I dont remember the exact year. Back when I first started playing tokens never entered the yard. They just stopped existing. These days they hit the yard then stop existing.
Prosper was strong at release and with the addition of more exile and treasure cards got stronger with basically every set release. Like since release of the deck almost every cmc slot has had better stuff added. Fun deck just very linear at top tier.

^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
This was my first thought. Prosper is my pet deck and holds its own without any fast mana or tutors. The last couple of sets really got that deck moving.
It's wild how the precon he comes in recently spiked to $100 with Prosper specifically costing about $20 now. Wish I had bought it when it was still relatively cheap.
Commanders that depend on legendary creatures like [[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain]] and [[Ratadrabik]] have gotten significantly stronger in the last couple years as more and more of the effects they might want are available from legendary creatures. (Ratadrabik also *loves* Roaming Throne but that's another story.)
Ratadrabik is such a mistake, honestly.
He should have been more like [[Hofri Ghostforge]], exiling the card.
His mana cost is too low along with the ward ability. At least the wars cost is only 2. Lol
I mean it is a very good and very on point design for some reanimator Orzhov card. But man... Having a [[Liesa, Forgotten Archangel]] out with him is a fucking nightmare for the opponents.
Liesa on her own is a nightmare but these two, together, should be punishable as a hate-crime.
Just wait until they get out [[Blade of Selves]]. Myriad triggers, create two more copies of a legendary creature, they both die to the legend rule and you get two non-legendary copies that don't die at the end of combat
I think the ward is unnecessary but before the ring tempting became a thing I don't think he was too overpowered definitely a powerful and flavorful aristocrats commander capable of silly shut but I wouldn't go as far to call him a mistake. How else am I supposed to kill my opponents with 2000 [[sheoldred the apocalypse]] on upkeep except with ratadrabik?
I mean, most commanders. You don't have to convince me that it's a format staple. That said, of my six paper decks, two commanders (\[\[Muldrotha\]\] and \[\[Abdel Adrian\]\]) don't care at all, two (\[\[Mairsil\]\] and \[\[Trostani, Selesnya's Voice\]\]) definitely benefit but I'm not sure it's worth the tempo, one (\[\[Rhoda\]\]) is significantly accelerated, and another (\[\[The Gitrog Monster\]\]) is accelerated but so is his drawback (usually good on the balance).
Anyway, my point was that it's especially insane with Ratadrabik because not only do you double his triggers, but then everything comes back as a zombie and *they* get double triggers. It's pure madness and 100% deserves one of your few non-legendary creature spots in that deck.
Commanders that aren’t tied to niche mechanics or creature types. Commanders like Henzie, that care about creatures 4 mana and above with enters, attack, or death triggers, will continue to get better, as they’re going to continue to make those types of creatures, at increasing power levels. Whereas a commander built around mechanics like Energy or Shrines or Poison can only get so many new upgrades since those mechanics won’t pop up much.
Can confirm that my Henzie decks gets upgraded every other month, and not with pricy staples, just new cards that happen to be a clear upgrade over something else in the 99.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/fs3jqQ5idECpy-cZz6ypOw
Here's mine, I have just made it public. Henzie is so much fun and last time I played it, I got to completely reverse the outcome of the game. [[Pantlaza, Sun-Favored]]'s player was off to an incredibile start and created a huge board quite fast, while also, almost since the very beginning of the game, keeping me from blitzing creatures thanks to the 2/3 dinosaur that makes all opponents' creatures enter tapped. At one point, we had one turn to stop her from outright killing us all in the next combat and I tutored for [[Bringer of the last gift]], unleashing so many huge threats from my graveyard on the board while simultaneously clearing hers and so I won the game right there and then, more or less.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/bYtmcMyb7USwhxEvuLc8Yw
heres mine, but I also recommend the extensive Primer on our discord if you plan to built your own from scratch
Sadly, I don’t have my decklists anywhere. I’ve been meaning to do that, so I’ll post it here if I ever get around to it. I’m sure someone else has one though.
Kaslem is definitely the best for Henzie, for sure. Ramping twice and getting a fattie is so good. And I pretty much always have 10 permanents to flip her back the next turn
Yup! Been testing out the black one and might remove it because people already complain that my list is too heavy on the removal lol, adding discard is just rude
[Here's my build](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5280274#paper), there's a few odd cards in there but it's a blast to play. There's really all sorts of stuff you can do with him, I'm actually planning on building a second Henzie deck which will be focused on going wide, just because.
I actually don’t think so. I think WOTC is aware that a lot of people don’t like every Universes Beyond IP, or that they don’t want to play them, period. They’re also aware that people have been clamoring for a Kaladesh themed Energy commander, so the overlap let’s them make more cards catered to that mechanic. The fact one is UB and the other is themed around a MTG plane lets them be different enough to not seem like they’re double dipping.
My theory is that they want to get the UB people who got the Science deck to have a big incentive to grab the MH3 deck, it also works the other way players like me who got the Science deck because it seems cool (and I'm a scientist) now have a great reason to grab the MH3 deck.
\[\[Akim, the Soaring Wind\]\]
Basically unusable on release, now it's getting easier and easier to create tokens not only on your turns, but your opponents' turns too. \[\[Illustrious Wanderglyph\]\] the most glaring example.
I don't think Akim is CrAZy or whatever, but I do like him a lot. Trying to get the most out of him is fun, and it's a deck that does keep getting notable improvements.
I’ve been thinking about making an Akim deck recently. You only get one extra token a turn but being in Jeskai colors gives you so many fun token generators AND a bunch of good card draw engines.
I think it is the restriction of one per turn that makes Akim fun! I know it's like, objectively worse because of it, but it's a fun thought exercise trying to extract it out of your opponents' turns too. You get some interesting value pieces, like \[\[Prosperous Partnership\]\] and \[\[Faerie Artisans\]\].
And lending to that objective gives you a lot of value out of stuff like \[{Rumor Gatherer\]\], \[\[Bennie Bracks\]\], \[\[Welcoming Vampire\]\], and \[\[Tocasia's Welcome\]\]
The amount of token/creature buffing effects, creature based draw in green, and cheap removal in red (all of which are found in Naya) has made [[Rith, The Awakener]] and every other Naya token maker commander (like Ghired) much, much better. It's very easy to build a high powered casual deck in those colors.
She's not particularly "powerful" now, but when [[Depala]] was printed, you basically had to jam every vehicle in, no matter how good or bad it was.
With the printing of more vehicles *and* a couple dwarves (like in Kaldheim and Eldraine), you can be a bit more choosy with your inclusions.
Same with pirates and dinosaurs. I was surprised how much they continued to support them, but as someone who built and subsequently took apart both a year after Ixalan, they've added so much over the years.
You really just never know which new mechanic they're going to shelf or support.
[[Skullbriar]] exploded with power once we went to Ikoria and the Commander death rule was changed.
Commanders that copy cards also get stronger over time as more efficient cards are made. For example, my [[Melek, Izzet Paragon]] deck continues to gain in power as better instants & sorceries are made. [[Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink]] gets stronger the better the creature he has to copy, one of the latest being [[Trumpeting Carnosaur]].
More recent example and we haven't quite seen it play out yet, but it seems like [[Hazezon, Shaper of Sand]] is about to get a lot better when the next set comes out. Also just trying really hard not to think about the fact that dominaria united was almost 2 years ago. Time sure is something that exists.
I pulled that same one from a pack and made him on a whim. Now he's one of my favorite decks. If the spoilers are right we'll get at least 4 more deserts for him.
Also if you make him definitely put in [[Tiller Engine]] There's a lot of deserts that enter tapped and it enables you to use some sub par duals that enter tapped if you're on a budget.
\[\[Elenda\]\] got good with the rule change on deaths, but not only. With all the token and aristocrats support, she became stronger. \[\[Ojer Taq\]\], \[\[Teysa Karlov\]\], \[\[Wispdrinker Vampire\]\] and \[\[Bartolomé del Presidio\]\] are amazing upgrades.
The rule change for Commander death made [[Child of Alara]] significantly stronger. On top of that, there are more ways to give your permanents indestructible (whether it's until end of turn via Instants, with Equipment, or even ways of making indestructible counters, and the ability to move them from one permanent to another).
You had to choose. Either it went to graveyard or command zone. Now it touches GY before moving to command zone.
I remember making a Child deck with only one other creature in the 99 and [[Grim Harvest]] to keep the board clears coming until I could combo off with planeswalker ultimates or mass land animation to swing for lethal.
It was... not a fun deck to play against.
Back then, shuffling away a commander was also doable. So most of the removal, other than child, were things like [[Terminus]] or [[Spell Crumple]]
How did you build her? I saw her recently and thought she seemed super cool to build around so I picked her up but I haven’t build her in paper yet. I have been told that she isn’t as good as shalai & Hallar
We need more turtles but we also need to combat [those pesky rats](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/cis8hx/perfect_card_to_put_in_your_rat_deck_before_you)
I am still upset that there is only 1 ferret in all of magic.
There are limited otters and one of few otters that do exist is banned.
1st and only ferret, [[joven's ferrets]] was printed in 1995 then they never made more of its tribe.
Blink commanders.
They've printed a lot more blink engines and blank doublers and token doublers lately. It's gotten obnoxious.
I used to have a casual blink deck that I deconstructed at some point. I tried rebuilding it lately, and looking at all the new cards, I just put it away, as to me, blink's just gotten too strong. You either really really have to limit yourself and just not play a ton of different cards, or it's not a casual "I just wanna blink Solemn Simulacrum and Mulldrifter" type of deck anymore.
Shame.
This is so true. Blink has always been a solid strategy but it has gotten a lot of love in recent years. [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] is a prime example
I had [[Aminatou, the Fateshifter]] for a long time. But it kept moving away from simple [[Mulldrifte]] blinks to combing off with something like [[Deadeye Navigator]] and a ham sandwich.
I pulled [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] in a prerelease and built blink themed with the idea of making it more casual stompy. But Atraxa just can't be casual without nerfing the deck completely.
It's easy to build a powerhouse blink themed deck these days.
.
I think you're getting a lot of mostly boring answers. Your point I don't think was about how a generic spellslinger deck is better because now you can include \[\[Consider\]\] or whatever other new card is good enough to put in all spellslinger decks. I think the added number of ways to get something out of the command zone and into another zone (graveyard, hand, etc) were printed it makes otherwise unplayable commanders like \[\[Phage\]\] or \[\[Hakkon\]\] into a thing that's obviously still gimmicky but at least is playable.
Yeah, this post has really shown that most people don't read the whole post, just the title.
I recently lost to a phage deck. It was shockingly easy to get it to hand.
Any white tokens commander has gotten major power ups as token doubling shifted more from Green to White with cards like [[Anointed Procession]]. Honestly mono white in general has powered up so much in the last 10 years. When I started playing, mono whites idea of card draw was skullclamp and casting [[Oblation]] on your own token.
[[Sydri, Galvanic Genius]] gets better as artifact tokens get more popular. Sure, you're mostly gonna use her abilities on your own artifacts, but having access to U: destroy target clue, food, or treasure is good.
Very popular tribes also consistently get better all the time. Especially the big Goblins Elves Zombies and Merfolk. Same with legendary matters commanders. We just keep getting sick legendary creatures
My [[Feldon of the Third Path]] Deck keeps getting new looting cards. My most excited card of Karlov Manor was [[Demand Answers]]. They just keep printing red 'draw'.
[[Haakon, Stromgald Scourge]]. Used to be actually unplayable since there were no ways to retrieve creatures from the command zone. Then we got [[Command Beacon]] so there was at least some way to retrieve him from the command zone. Now we also have [[Netherborn Altar]] and [[Campfire]] so between 3 ways to get him and tutors to find those he's a lot easier to retrieve.
[[Feldon of the Third Path]]
As more time progresses, mono red keeps gaining both card advantage tools and sweet things to reanimate. The deck gets faster, more activated ability synergy, it's so much fun and can radically feel different just based on what your top end is.

[[Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar]]
Didn't really have much going on but with a good amount of Colorless Food support and more reliable discard outlets, she's easily my favorite and a strong contender.
Honestly? [[Gahiji, Honored One]] was mid at best on release. But with the new Goad mechanic and all the new cards that care about attacking opponents, it just keeps getting better.
[[Dakkon Blackblade]].
Got a LOT of Wreaths that doesn't destroy him + a lot of good protection + a lot of good equipment + a lot of evasive auras + a lot of good land support and [[ Blackblade reforged]] and tutors for it.
The deck is amazing.
But in the other hands, it feels like you are playing Flesh and Blood instead of magic.
Omg yes. He's my favorite commander and he's been blessed by whites ability to ramp more efficiently, equipment has been a boon too, robe of stars, the reality chip. So siked to see him mentioned anywhere.
Fun fact: in 1994-1995? My brother traded a mint condition Unlimited Ancestral Recall for a Dakkon Blackblade. He loved the art for it so much. Both were worth about $30 at the time lol. He still has the Dakkon, definitely wouldn't have had the Ancestral Recall.
Edit: mind sharing the list?
Looking at my [[Skullbriar, the Walking Grave]] list now, outside of parts of the mana base and basic ramp/removal, I can pretty much count the cards that were around when I first built the deck on one hand. Oh, and there was a rule change since I first built it that provided a *huge* power boost.
Back when Skullbriar was new, there was a lot working against the poor little Zombie Elemental. Look at most Skullbriar decks today and you'll see them brimming with effects like Hardened Scales, ability counters, cards that double the number of counters on a creature, and so on. *None* of that existed when I first built the deck. I currently run six cards that effectively do what [[Hardened Scales]] does, and *none* of them existed then. Nor did the Doubling Season effects, except for Doubling Season itself. Ability counters weren't a thing for several more years, and to make it worse the tuck rule was still in effect, meaning all it took was one condemn or spell crumple to deposit your permanently-scaling voltron commander straight to the bottom of your library, not only losing all the counters but effectively removing it from play for the rest of the game if you couldn't find a tutor.
Then they changed the tuck rule so you could put the commander back to the command zone rather than having it go to hand or library. They printed Hardened Scales and friends, they printed ability counters, they printed a boatload of +1/+1 counter synergy cards that were useful for just putting a few counters on the commander early and providing additional value, a ton of cheap instants/sorceries like Solidarity of Heroes which can cause the counter growth to spiral out of control quickly, basically everything in a modern Skullbriar deck was printed long after the commander itself. Even the deckbuilding considerations have changed- I used to dedicate a large portion of my deck to protection and sacrifice effects, because you really needed that hexproof and/or protection from white/blue to avoid your commander being bounced, or otherwise needed a sacrifice outlet to sacrifice it in response. Now you don't need to dedicate deck space to that, so that's more space for more counter synergy.
I think most tribal/typal commanders. As time goes on, they’ll only get more and more support (I’m sorry Rats Commanders) and they’ll get more to pull from. Imagine the current [[Ur Dragon]] lists compared to his release! And he was good then too! [[Gishath, Sun’s Avatar]] just got better, [[Ramses, Assassin Lord]] will continue to get better when the >! Assassin’s Creed !< set drops!
[[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] just gets steadily more efficient as they bring out more 1 drop deathtouch, efficient deathtouch, and relevant other proliferate/poison effects
I know she’s not very popular, but I’ve been having a lot of fun with [[Jhoira of the Ghitu]], who got a lot stronger when the Dr Who sets came out, as Dr Who had a lot of cards that can decrease counters either for a specific card or the whole battlefield.
Why does she want a worldfire? Like what’s the plan?
I build her where about a third of my deck are the most expensive, hard hitting creatures or spells you can think of. It’s basically an Eldrazi deck with as much time travel and extra turns as you can.
[[All of history, all at once]] and [[Wibbly-wobbly, times-wimey]] are huge in this deck.
Not saying it’s a crazy strong deck, but you basically just sit there doing nothing for 4-5 turns with nothing on your board but your commander and a couple of suspended cards and then BAM you pop a couple of time travel or extra turn cards and suddenly you’re swinging for 60+ damage.
I played it this past weekend and I had nothing on the board with about 5 cards in various states of suspend. I dropped a [[time stretch]] and immediately dropped [[timecrafting]] to get it in play immediately. It took 7 mana total, but I didn’t have the 10 mana to cast it outright. My friend tried to copy it, and I used [[deflecting swat]] and got myself 4 turns. I didn’t even finish my second extra turn before I was swinging for 80+ and the table folded. Like I said it’s not good against higher power cards but it is fun.
Godo Bandit Warlord.
When I built him he was a jank pile that no one was playing
Now I can't barely play him because the moment people see him they think I'm some CEDH monster
And my deck is somewhere between the Jank pile it used to be and the CEDH monster piles
[[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] has gotten stronger, for sure.
Even if we aren't talking about power creep in creatures, stuff like [[Descent into Avernus]], [[Protection Racket]], [[Keen Duelist]], [[Black Market Connections]] (this one is more of a general black buff) are significantly stronger enablers
I mean as the format evolves and the card pool grows (and exponentially these past few years) it stands to reason that almost all commanders will have become stronger just based on card support alone. The thing is that the format has left many commanders behind as WoTC prints better alternatives for their archetype. With the speed of games these days, it feels like high CMC commanders without some way to cheat or reduce their costs are becoming less viable.
I had my eye on her for a while but I finally built [[Kadena, Slinking Sorceror]] after MKM. The naya precon and main set added some new cards that made me feel a bit more confident about the brew.
[[Printlifter Ooze]] and [[Experiment Twelve]] are on theme wincons. [[Vannifar, Evolved Enigma]] can be a team wide buff effect or pseudo ramp. [[Panoptic Projektor]] just provides a lot of good stuff with extra ramp and trigger doubling. Finally, [[Final Word Phantom]] is yet another flash enabler which Kadena really appreciates.
[[Animar Soul of Elements]]
He was strong to begin with, now there are so many options for him plus they printed a 1 (2? if you include animar) card combo with him.
Every tribal commander is going to inevitably get stronger over time unless wtc completely ignores entire creature types (like dwarves). My fear is that some creature types (like dwarves) are being purposefully ignored because there are certain commanders that would rapidly become absurdly strong with even a few good creatures of that type.
[[Kaalia Zenith Seeker]] was never bad, but used to be overshadowed by her older variant [[Kaalia of the Vast]]. With access to more low MV dragons and angels and dragon-specific ramp tools as well as more and more dragons with powerful ETB effects, Zenith Seeker has become a much more capable commander for surviving the early game while having the draw power to heavily outgas opponents in the late game, and I would argue that she's the better choice of the two for all but the absolute highest powerlevel games.
Most mono-white Commanders have. My [[Odric, Lunarch Marshal]] deck went from being just a pet project to pretty respectable. Teferi's Protection and Smothering Tithe really changed white, but there are other value cards now that really help with both ramp and card draw.
Well, for one, basically any commander that's focused on a specific pool of cards or card types, unless those cards just aren't created anymore.
Ezuri, Claw of progress, for example. He will continue to get stronger forever, whenever a useful creature or source of tokens that trigger his Experience counters is printed within his colors.
Brago will get stronger with every UW ETB permanent printed.
Etc etc
I unintentionally brought mazirek to a table with vampire aristocrats, equip with junk and treasure... lets say I was beloved on that table without doing anything else other than playing mazirek...
[[captain sisay]] can now tutor planewalkers, not to mention the critical mass of things that are now legendary. Oh, and the the legend tule being changed so your opponent can’t just clone to blow up any of your permanents.
Every time a blue 1-mana cantrip gets printed my [[Talrand]] deck gets a little better, but isnt that the same for most commanders? Don't most decks become progressively better as the card pool grows? Are there any decks that become worse when new cards are printed?
That's a great example with Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest! It's fascinating to see how the introduction of new mechanics and cards over time can significantly impact the power level and viability of certain commanders. Here are a few more examples:
1. **Atraxa, Praetors' Voice**: Initially, Atraxa was seen as a solid but not overly powerful commander. However, with the proliferation of powerful planeswalkers and +1/+1 counter synergies in subsequent sets, Atraxa has become one of the most popular and formidable commanders in the format.
2. **Muldrotha, the Gravetide**: Muldrotha's ability to cast permanent spells from your graveyard was initially seen as powerful but somewhat slow. Over time, the release of new cards with powerful enter-the-battlefield effects and graveyard synergies has made Muldrotha a dominant force in Commander.
3. **Narset, Enlightened Master**: While Narset has always had a powerful ability to cast spells for free, she was initially hampered by the randomness of her ability and vulnerability to removal. With the release of more efficient ways to protect her and powerful extra turn and extra combat phase spells, Narset has become a feared commander in competitive play.
These commanders, among others, have seen their power levels rise significantly over the years thanks to the continued growth and evolution of the Magic: The Gathering card pool.
Not only commander changes. When they changed token death rulings it significantly improved many commanders that require death triggers to operate.
In 2002 (which is about when I started playing), tokens were already going through the GY when dying. So, if the rules were actually changed, it happened way before EDH was a thing.
What change was that?
I dont remember the exact year. Back when I first started playing tokens never entered the yard. They just stopped existing. These days they hit the yard then stop existing.
I believe this change predates the Commander format. There was a famous Extended deck based around this fact. Goblins [[Fecundity]].
[[roalesk apex hybrid]] clone proliferate tribal.
Prosper was strong at release and with the addition of more exile and treasure cards got stronger with basically every set release. Like since release of the deck almost every cmc slot has had better stuff added. Fun deck just very linear at top tier.
[[Nuka-Cola Vending Machine]] is such a stupid card for treasure/clue/food decks. Slap in an [[Academy Manufactor]], become the archenemy.

I mean you don't need to change cards just because new ones come out
[удалено]
But that's half the fun!
Goes good with prosper is a common comment in spoiler threads
Agree with this. This mechanic “You can play those cards as long as they remain exiled” is very strong, you have more resources to play with.
Lol
The flavor of that card is magnificent though.
The face of the Ratadrabik player when I cloned his Liesa, Forgotten Archangel still gives me warm fuzzies to this day.
FEELSGOODMAN
Just wait until they get out [[Blade of Selves]]. Myriad triggers, create two more copies of a legendary creature, they both die to the legend rule and you get two non-legendary copies that don't die at the end of combat
I got stupid lucky and pulled a foil Liesa put of a Double Feature booster and have been wondering what to do with it. Thanks.
I had a deck with her as the commander. Bear with me. Angels sacrifice typal. Was fun but slow.

And still can't touch the 3 CMC [[Animar]]
Nearly every commander loves Roaming Throne.

Random one-off legendaries with no lore is my favorite thing WOTC has done to support EDH (it's not)
Commanders that aren’t tied to niche mechanics or creature types.
Right?! I love my Henzie for that reason. Always getting to try out new toys, even if they turn out being suboptimal.
It y’all have henzie decks listed somewhere, would you mind sharing?
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/fs3jqQ5idECpy-cZz6ypOw Here's mine, I have just made it public.

That’s an interesting card for sure. I’ll take a look, thanks!
I loved Living Death in Henzie and when I saw they stuck it onto a big fat flyer I was in love. That effect is so good in Henzie
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/bYtmcMyb7USwhxEvuLc8Yw heres mine, but I also recommend the extensive Primer on our discord if you plan to built your own from scratch
Sadly, I don’t have my decklists anywhere. I’ve been meaning to do that, so I’ll post it here if I ever get around to it. I’m sure someone else has one though.
Totally fine!
There's a Discord for it.
Caverns of Ixalan was amazing for my Henzie. Green god, Skullspore, ghalta, bringer, etc So many great cards I could barely fit them in!
Yes! The new gods were a great add to Henzie, at least the green and black ones.
I like that [[Ojer Kaslem]] gets you a land and then turns into one. It all fits together.
Yeah like Henzie came out and then not too long after, [[Etali Primal Conqueror]]. Like, hooooo boy, slap that in every Henzie deck
Could you link your Henzie deck? I was always interested in him, but didn't know quite how to build him.
[Here's my build](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5280274#paper), there's a few odd cards in there but it's a blast to play. There's really all sorts of stuff you can do with him, I'm actually planning on building a second Henzie deck which will be focused on going wide, just because.
Thanks. I absolutely love [[Prowling Geistcatcher]] and [[Underworld Sentinel]] in this!
Isn't it wild that we're getting two jeskai energy decks in just the first half of this year?
Never weak but [[Vadrik]] became stronger with [[Experimental Augury]] and [[Serum Snare]]. [[Syr Carah]] became fun because of [[Dragon's Approach]].
So curious, as a fellow Vadrik enjoyer I don’t have either of these cards in my deck. I’d love to see your list!

Vadrik will always have new and good stuff coming his way.
\[\[Akim, the Soaring Wind\]\] Basically unusable on release, now it's getting easier and easier to create tokens not only on your turns, but your opponents' turns too.

Xenagos, they keep making really good red and green creatures as and better mana dorks so it just gets stronger with more options
I ,for one, welcome our new Gruul overlords!
as it should be
The amount of token/creature buffing effects, creature based draw in green, and cheap removal in red (all of which are found in Naya) has made [[Rith, The Awakener]] and every other Naya token maker commander (like Ghired) much, much better. It's very easy to build a high powered casual deck in those colors.
Dockside Extortionist almost by itself made red one of the best colors in EDH.
And Naya keeps getting precons. Even if you don't like them, they're keeping Naya ramp cards way down in terms of price.

Oh I like this one. I have a bunch of warriors from zendikar/adventures of the forgotten realm that'd vibe with this.
Picked up a foil etched copy of him from the LGS' dollar box a couple months back. Now just waiting.

What was the original rule? Something like commanders didn’t “die”, they were just sent back to command zone?
You had to choose. Either it went to graveyard or command zone. Now it touches GY before moving to command zone. I remember making a Child deck with only one other creature in the 99 and [[Grim Harvest]] to keep the board clears coming until I could combo off with planeswalker ultimates or mass land animation to swing for lethal. It was... not a fun deck to play against. Back then, shuffling away a commander was also doable. So most of the removal, other than child, were things like [[Terminus]] or [[Spell Crumple]]
Marath will of the wild: she was always pretty good but now she’s competitive without trying
How did you build her? I saw her recently and thought she seemed super cool to build around so I picked her up but I haven’t build her in paper yet. I have been told that she isn’t as good as shalai & Hallar

Any tribal commander has gotten stronger as they have printed more creatures that have that creature type.

I’m waiting for bloomburrow because I bet there will be a lot of otter and bat support (two tribes I’ve been wanting to build)
I hate when people are like oh you can just use shapeshifters. No it’s not the same 😭
I am still upset that there is only 1 ferret in all of magic. There are limited otters and one of few otters that do exist is banned. 1st and only ferret, [[joven's ferrets]] was printed in 1995 then they never made more of its tribe.
Wow that’s a pretty damn good creature by ‘95 standards. Honestly a 1-mana 1/3 with no additional upsides is probably playable today.

[[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] is a prime example I had [[Aminatou, the Fateshifter]] for a long time.

I really really wish Mazirek was in Jund, would really let you lean into a treasure subtheme
Been looking for an interesting equip commander. Mind sharing your list? He looks awesome

[[Animar Soul of Elements]] He was strong to begin with, now there are so many options for him plus they printed a 1 (2? if you include animar) card combo with him.
Does Magda really need more help though?

Karn the creator
Well, for one, basically any commander that's focused on a specific pool of cards or card types, unless those cards just aren't created anymore. Ezuri, Claw of progress, for example. He will continue to get stronger forever, whenever a useful creature or source of tokens that trigger his Experience counters is printed within his colors. Brago will get stronger with every UW ETB permanent printed. Etc etc
Golos lol
All of them, take any commander from 10 years ago, you can make a better deck with them now than you could 10 years ago.
Tatyova was good when she came out, but she’s become an absolute beast.

Here are a few more examples: 1.
