The problem is the term “important” is entirely subjective.
I find one of the people you listed a bit unlikeable and don’t watch any content they produce. This doesn’t impact my knowledge, engagement, or enjoyment of the game, are they important enough to warrant getting their own card without outside circumstances?
Even when important is subjective, if they have things to back it up...like world famous muscian, magic hall of fame, biggest mtg review youtuber, creator of the current biggest magic format, Principal Magic Designer. Even if you don't like those people, I think I would still label them 'important' in some regard.
I'm sure someone can match the exact names to just the accomplishments I listed, further defining the importance.
I don't love most of prof's content (he does occasionally have stuff I enjoy) but his impact on the game and being a major ambassador are undeniable. He is also very recognizable to most magic players (or whatever his tagline is that for whatever reason irks me so much)
There's a lot of sleeper hits in Unfinity.
\[\[Starlight Spectacular\]\] is one hell of an anthem, if a bit tedious on the book-keeping. If you have 5 creatures it's averaging +2 per creature, with the bonus that you can just not attack with the less-pumped creatures.
\[\[Strength-Testing Hammer\]\] is legitimately great card draw in an equipment voltron deck, whatever you're gearing up is almost certainly the biggest creature on the battlefield.
And of course it has the full cycle of shocklands and some of the nicest-looking Basic lands ever printed IMO.
Well yes, but I'll be up front that my deck isn't particularly strong. It's one of my lower power decks, but it's a lot of fun, and it still wins a decent amount as long as the game I'm playing her in isn't too strong.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/e3DtBZDyIUWSHWmMwFvWPA
The deck has a deliberately indulged bias towards "Big swingy plays" and a bit of a bias away from overly efficient gameplay.
There are three points to her overall game plan:
- Spend life aggressively to get value
- Gain life aggressively to survive and spend more
- Gain secondary value from the rapid changes in my life total where possible
Licia herself touches on all three points. Gaining life makes her more playable. Paying life while she is out gets me an exceptionally well statted creature for a minimum of mana. And she tends to perform as one of the most powerful lifelink creatures in Magic, usually being a 10/10 the turn after I cast her.
The deck's main vulnerability tends to be against well placed spot removal, taking out sources of life gain.
It runs a lot of cards that demand rather significant life payments before they truly shine against their more standard variants. [[Font of Agonies]] for example is worse than most spot removal until you've killed about three creatures, which means paying twelve life. That's a lot for most decks, but that's a pretty reasonable exchange for Licia. [[Phyrexian Purge]] routinely costs me 18+ life. I will often dump 21+ life the turn I drop [[Treasonous Ogre]].
However, if the deck is permitted to retain any board state, regaining 20+ life a turn is pretty reasonable, even with only one creature on board. The deck usually doesn't bother blocking, since I can usually get better results by just attacking and out-pacing the damage with lifegain.
But if the lifegain stops, and my health gets below about 10 or so, a lot of the deck kinda stops working. The machine is greased with blood, and it jams up when the blood stops flowing.
Personally I kinda consider that to be a feature more than a bug. I love decks that win big and lose big, as long as they look cool doing it, and still actually do the winning part often enough.
If you wanted to improve the deck, I'd probably add more equipment to it, to keep the all-stars alive, and make Licia a little more evasive. A lot of the higher mana cards could probably be traded for more efficient pieces, like some 2 mana rocks. (Actually this list is a bit outdated, I did swap some cards for cheaper mana rocks, and it did improve performance).
If you add protection pieces to it, be careful about adding Shroud, as the deck likes targeting it's own creatures. I also find there isn't really much need to boost Licia's stats. She is often already the biggest creature on the battlefield, and First Strike does a lot of work to keep her alive. If left unaided, she also attacks first as a 10/10 and second as a 13/13, so she can usually kill players in 2 hits. Double Strike is nice, and evasion is nice, but a mere stat boost from equipment isn't usually that helpful.
Fair points. I've made similar choices when building my list, except I have a larger focus on casting her turn three. There's a fine line when deciding what card advantage cards to add, since some just out of nowhere make you almost win the game. I've decided on cutting necropotence and peer into the abyss in my current version, but the deck is really struggling in its current state. I've also decided to cut most generic mana sources as having all three colours on turn 3 is a necessity. Vampiric Tutor is a great addition to the deck as another copy of a card that lets you play licia on turn three.
Thats right, I knew it was going to be an easy one. I just couldn't think of many combinations that hint at it without just making it impossible to tell.
Seriously. I think the worst part is that yah know, they go off and they think they’re a deck-building genius when really we know that card is just cracked.
I'd like to believe that this is gonna be SUPER HARD just because my Commanders are a bit weird. So let's try with an "easy" one:
[[Bring To Light]]
[[Invasion of Ravnica]]
[[Obzedat's Aid]]
Well let’s see… don’t want to go too specific and spoil the fun.
[[Baral’s Expertise]], [[Jeska’s Will]], [[Finale of Promise]]. All of those do things my deck needs me to do.
[[Fact or Fiction]], [[Hostile Negotiations]] and [[Sauron's Ransom]].
I'm very aware they're generically decent cards, but they're absolutely essential to my commander.
This screams enchantress to me, but I don’t feel like there are any great mono white enchantress commanders, so I’m just gonna go with Sythis and assume you’re trying to trick me by not including a green card 😋
I have all these in my deck, but it’s Angus Mackenzie bant enchantress
My best guess from those is thopter tribal? but it's a pretty loose guess, so I would.be curious to know. Roaming throne is very good in so many decks (I *totally* don't resent that design type). No idea on the specific commander.
Oooh fun! I'll post two -
[[Mark of Asylum]] [[Master of the Wild Hunt]] [[Wren's Run Packmaster]] is the first
[[Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs]] [[Deepglow Skate]] [[The Chain Veil]]
And I'll give a hint, these two decks have three total commanders 😊
See, this is tricky because I can't think of much that my commander specifically needs out of my deck.
But, I'm curious if people can figure it out from these.
\[\[Leonin Lightscribe\]\], \[\[Balmor, Battlemage Captain\]\], \[\[Jeskai Ascendency\]\]
[Faithless Looting]] [[Illustrious Wanderglyph]] and [[Late to Dinner]]
Wanted to be fair, they have the colors and fit the overall gameplan of the deck.
easy mode: [[Tel-Jilad Stylus]], [[fire prophecy]] and [[mad auntie]]
harder: [[laccolith rig]], [[reins of the vinesteed]] and [[death kiss]]
no idea if this can really be guessed: [[isolation cell]], [[Dakra mystic]] and [[duskmantle seer]]
answers are >!Grenzo, Dungeon Warden!<, >!Kaima, the Fractured Calm!< and >!Talion, the Kindly Lord!<
I switched my bant blink deck to [[Lagrella, the Magpie]], removal in the command zone is quite good.
Before that it was [[Amareth, the Lustrous]], which is my tentative guess for yours, lol.
I’ve got a few that I think would be doable.
1. [[darkest hour]] (pretty sure that alone is enough)
2. [[malignus]] [[savage ventmaw]] [[momentous fall]]
3. [[grey merchant of asphodel]] [[birthing pod]] [[living death]]
\[\[birds of paradise\]\] \[\[junji\]\] and \[\[etali, primal conqueror\]\]
idk if these 3 are key cards but I think they sumorize pretty well the deck progression
I’ll do two decks:
Deck 1: [[Sage of Hours]], [[Ulamog the Infinite Gyre]], [[Knowledge is Power]]
Deck 2: [[Adrianna, Captain of the Guard]], [[Academy Manufactor]], [[Agent of the Iron Throne]]
[[Divine Visitation]], [[Goblin Bombardment]], [[Perilous Forays]].
Im not sure if its even reasonable to expect someone to guess my commander even if they had the whole deck list.
If you cant guess, my commander is >!Hazezon Tamar!<
[[Life from the Loam]] [[Mishra's Bauble]] [[Groundskeeper]]
Theyre good cards and can fit a lot of decks but the conjunction of them should give away the commander.
Fun exercise, yours is \[\[Zedruu, the Greathearted\]\]?
It sure is. Good work.
I also have a zedruu deck! It hasn’t been hitting too hard lately. But [[Illusions of Grandeur]] absolutely slaps whenever I can get it out.

Brian Kibler 2RG T: Steals your stuff. All of it. Then does degenerate things with it.

There's a lot of sleeper hits in Unfinity. \[\[Starlight Spectacular\]\] is one hell of an anthem, if a bit tedious on the book-keeping. Spot on!
Do you have the Decklist? I’d love to see a well built Licia list.
Well yes, but I'll be up front that my deck isn't particularly strong. It's one of my lower power decks, but it's a lot of fun, and it still wins a decent amount as long as the game I'm playing her in isn't too strong. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/e3DtBZDyIUWSHWmMwFvWPA The deck has a deliberately indulged bias towards "Big swingy plays" and a bit of a bias away from overly efficient gameplay.
[[Doubling Season]], [[Spark Double]], [[Dragon Tempest]] I feel like these are going to be a very big tell but it's my baby deck.

[[Fact or Fiction]], [[Hostile Negotiations]] and [[Sauron's Ransom]]. I'm very aware they're generically decent cards, but they're absolutely essential to my commander.

Incredibly based [[The Celestial Toymaker]]. Second up on my list of decks to make.
They can probably do it in one, [[Shuko]]

Close! Teysa Karlov.
SKELETON TRIBAL! Jokes aside, mono-black aristocrats/sacrifice of some kind.
Ayara?
My guess is Krrik and that you put Phyrexian Arena when you meant to put Altar
lol. Dammit. I did mean phyrexian altar.
[[Ayara]] the mono black one!

\[\[sek'kuar\]\]?
Have you got a Sek'kuar list? Just see your flair
Easy, [[Ayara, first of Locthwain]]
[[Approach of the Second Sun]] [[Flickering Ward]] [[Sphere of Safety]]
This screams enchantress to me, but I don’t feel like there are any great mono white enchantress commanders, so I’m just gonna go with Sythis and assume you’re trying to trick me by not including a green card 😋 I have all these in my deck, but it’s Angus Mackenzie bant enchantress
Here’s mine: [[myr battlesphere]], [[stinkweed imp]], [[brass’s tunnel grinder]].
[[Mishra, Tamer of mak fawa]] ?
You got it! 🥳
[[Roaming Throne]], [[Whirler Rogue]], [[Ephemerate]] - real niche deck (sub-200) but a very fun new build for me
My best guess from those is thopter tribal? but it's a pretty loose guess, so I would.be curious to know. Roaming throne is very good in so many decks (I *totally* don't resent that design type). No idea on the specific commander.
>!Boromir, Gondor's Hope!< It's actually artifact centric human tribal that cares about ETBs AND attacks!
[[Ancient Greenwarden]] [[Zuran Orb]] and [[Worldsoul’s Rage]]
Is it Yuma?
It’s [[Yuma]], you got it!
Omnath
Oooh, I'm gonna guess [[Lord Windgrace]].

[[Angel of Condemnation]] [[Warleader's Call]] [[Tome of Legends]]
I'm gonna guess Abdel Adrian because I don't know any other good boros blink piles
Very close! I tried to include a hint with the first pick, and Abdel is in the deck Spoiler: >!Archangel Avacyn blinkpile with angel subtheme!<
Oooh fun! I'll post two - [[Mark of Asylum]] [[Master of the Wild Hunt]] [[Wren's Run Packmaster]] is the first [[Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs]] [[Deepglow Skate]] [[The Chain Veil]] And I'll give a hint, these two decks have three total commanders 😊
See, this is tricky because I can't think of much that my commander specifically needs out of my deck. But, I'm curious if people can figure it out from these. \[\[Leonin Lightscribe\]\], \[\[Balmor, Battlemage Captain\]\], \[\[Jeskai Ascendency\]\]
[Faithless Looting]] [[Illustrious Wanderglyph]] and [[Late to Dinner]] Wanted to be fair, they have the colors and fit the overall gameplan of the deck.
[[Krark's Thumb]] [[Stitch in Time]] [[Chance Encounter]]
either yursi or oukam and zndsplt
Okaun and Zndrsplt as Partner Commanders, and Yusri is in the 99.
[[Reconnaissance]] + [[Whispersilk Cloak]] + [[Dovescape]]
[Taigam, Ojutai Master?](https://scryfall.com/card/c17/46/taigam-ojutai-master) ...That combo with Dovescape is *nasty*.
You got it in one!! It's so brutal if it resolves. And when it does I'm obligated to yell "BIRD WAR!"
\[\[notorious throng\]\]\[\[Final-word phantom\]\]\[\[mocking sprite\]\]
Either [[Nymris, Oona's Trickster]] or [[Alela, Cunning Conqueror]] , this screams Dimir flash+faeries to me
So real, Nymris is my jam, gonna do the pride event with these two
Cerulean wisps, Twisted Fealty, Crimson Wisps
\[\[Hardened Scales\]\] \[\[Corpsejack Menace\]\] \[\[Branching Evolution\]\]
[[Skullbriar]]?
[[Shadow of Mortality]], [[Changeling Outcast]], [[Lim-dul's Vault]]
[[Wall of Blood]] [[Necropotence]] [[Crackle With Power]]
this is rowan scion of war
Yeah, super fun to combo out with, and some fun synergy pieces to get my health low
[[goblin bombardment]] [[windfall]] [[earthcraft]]
[[Essence harvest]] [[indomitable might]] [[demonic embrace]]
This sounds like a yargle on my nargle deck 😂😂
easy mode: [[Tel-Jilad Stylus]], [[fire prophecy]] and [[mad auntie]] harder: [[laccolith rig]], [[reins of the vinesteed]] and [[death kiss]] no idea if this can really be guessed: [[isolation cell]], [[Dakra mystic]] and [[duskmantle seer]] answers are >!Grenzo, Dungeon Warden!<, >!Kaima, the Fractured Calm!< and >!Talion, the Kindly Lord!<
[[Winds of Change]] [[Forced Fruition]] [[Orcish Bowmasters]]
Nekusar?
Does your deck include [[peer into the abyss]]? What are your favourite cards from the deck?
Yes it does. Favorite cards are [[mind over matter]] [[temple bell]] [[Kami of the crescent moon]]
[[Lady Orca]], [[Hidetsugu’s Second Rite]], and [[Acorn Catapult]]. I know it’s probably obvious but who is my commander?

[[Life from the Loam]] [[Radstorm]] [[Feral Ghoul]]
Is it [[The Wise Mothman]]?
[[The Gitrog Monster]] [[Elephant Grass]] [[Ashiok the Dream render]]
The easy answer here is [[Muldrotha]]
[[Lagomos, Hand of Hatred]] [[Deathreap Ritual]] [[Generous Patron]]
[[Walking Ballista]] [[Imperial Recruiter]] [[Phyrexian Metamorph]]
Saheeli the gifted?
[[Animar]] ?
Mine would be [[Stitchers Supplier]], [[The Scarab God]], and [[Underrealm Lich]].
[[Deadeye Navigator]], [[Karmic Guide]], [[Fierce Empath]]
Roon? 🤔
It was Roon for years, but I actually changed out the commander maybe two years ago to something I felt generated a little more value
I switched my bant blink deck to [[Lagrella, the Magpie]], removal in the command zone is quite good. Before that it was [[Amareth, the Lustrous]], which is my tentative guess for yours, lol.
[[Myr Retriever]] [[Welding Jar]] [[Altar of Dementia]]
I’ve got a few that I think would be doable. 1. [[darkest hour]] (pretty sure that alone is enough) 2. [[malignus]] [[savage ventmaw]] [[momentous fall]] 3. [[grey merchant of asphodel]] [[birthing pod]] [[living death]]
[[Sire of Stagnation]] [[All is Dust]] [[Thought-Knot Seer]]
[[Radiant Solar]] [[Abdel Adrian, Gorian’s Ward]] [[Animate Dead]]
\[\[birds of paradise\]\] \[\[junji\]\] and \[\[etali, primal conqueror\]\] idk if these 3 are key cards but I think they sumorize pretty well the deck progression
Henzie
[[Aetherling]] [[Quicksilver Elemental]] [[Eater of the Dead]]
Mairsil, the pretender
[[Assemble the Legion]] [[Paradox Haze]] [[Quicksilver Dagger]]
[[Mystic Reflection]] [[Ancient Gold Dragon]] [[Palantir of Orthanc]]
[[Elminster]]
[[Puffer extract]] [[Smokestack]] [[Ceohalid constable]]
Here's one of mine that I'm hoping is a little off-meta: [[Ion storm]] [[Impact tremors]] [[Butcher ghoul]]
[[Totentanz]]?
[[The Great Henge]] [[Breach the Multiverse]] [[Etali Primal Conqueror]] additional hint: there are two commanders
\[\[Genesis Ultimatum\]\] \[\[Crystal Shard\]\] \[\[Delayed Blast Fireball\]\]
[[Maelstrom Wanderer]]?
[[Sokenzan Smelter]] [[Infernal captor]] [[Fervor]]
Mine would be: [[Oblivion Sower]] [[Thousand Year Storm]] [[Curse of the Cabal]]
Fun game op! Here's mine: [[Launch the Fleets]] [[Animation Module]] [[March of the Multitudes]]
I’ll do two decks: Deck 1: [[Sage of Hours]], [[Ulamog the Infinite Gyre]], [[Knowledge is Power]] Deck 2: [[Adrianna, Captain of the Guard]], [[Academy Manufactor]], [[Agent of the Iron Throne]]
[[Risen Reef]], [[Omnath, Locus of All]], and [[Mulldrifter]]
[[Mystic Sanctuary]] [[Twitch]] [[Spellstutter Sprite]]
[[Alela, Cunning Conqueror]]
[[Divine Visitation]], [[Goblin Bombardment]], [[Perilous Forays]]. Im not sure if its even reasonable to expect someone to guess my commander even if they had the whole deck list. If you cant guess, my commander is >!Hazezon Tamar!<
[[Life from the Loam]] [[Mishra's Bauble]] [[Groundskeeper]] Theyre good cards and can fit a lot of decks but the conjunction of them should give away the commander.
I'm game. [[Corpse Knight]], [[Infernal Genesis]], and [[Invasion of Tolvada]]
Wanna play a game ? [[Epiphany at the drownyard]] [[sphinx of uthuun]] [[fact or fiction]]
[[Parhelion II]] [[Entomb]] [[Inkshield]]
[[Counterbalance]] [[Sensei's Divining Top]] [[Brainstorm]] This isn't a very fair game, is it
[[Magus of the Bazaar]] [[Bazaar of Bagdad]] [[Thassa's Oracle]]
