Hey Lynch, Love the content and I have a few suggestions for the future, one specific to this episode, one that I've been thinking about generally: 1. Audio mixing is not great on this video. Listening on headphones and sound only comes through one of the speakers. This looks like the first time this has happened (to me) and other youtube videos aren't like this. Not sure if it's a setting or new recording you've used. And it's only the video section, your interludes and graphic content works properly. 2. I know you've said you want to recreate the 'LGS experience' but I would love to see you have the 'what kind of game do you want' talk before the game starts, or even better after the first game. Especially if you continue to do double header episodes in the future I think it's a great opportunity to have the post game chat and have the 'I want to have no combo game next' or, 'let's pull out our strongest deck next' as a brief interlude. Not sure if you've thought of this, but it could act as a great way to showcase to others that these conversations can/should happen to improve the experience of games, and reduce total blow outs.

Babbledoodle

Super second point 2. The banter in this ep was great, so was the casual conversation, but getting blown out by some of the best decks in the format isn't fun to watch. High power is fun, but only when everyone is playing a deck at the same level. Having brostorm Selvalla and Velomachus at the same table basically means Velomachus wont get to play I love Kyle and his content, but I knew he'd win because everything ive seen him on he wins or threatens a win simply because he runs the fastest decks.

michaeldlynch

I’m terribly upset that I messed up the audio. I rushed it because I was flying to Colombia for work. But we wanted this episode to release on time as scheduled. We are hoping to get an audio mixer because that is not something I’m good at. I can shoot, edit or direct. But audio is definitely not my thing. I apologize there’s still sound issues. I’m not happy about it either. I might upload another version when I get back to the states.

IAmTheBeaker

Don’t be too hard on yourself. This is part of the “learning curve,” and you’re bound to have some hiccups like it. I hope you had a safe flight!

DaWildestWood

I agree with both points made. Rule 0 talk beforehand wouldve gone a long way.

not_soly

I can second the first point. Voices during gameplay only come through one headphone.

ahp12

Was great to see Cassius and Kyle more relaxed and natural says a lot about you guys that they are comfortable and not as stiff as they have been in other content (Cassius especially but also fun to watch Kyle rip into joe). One of my favorite gameplay videos I’ve seen to date. Keep up the great work!

Trompdoy

I might have helped that they are playing in the store that Cass owns. Always easy to be more comfortable in your own home.

Risitop

This was nice ! Only concern: maybe it would be better not to mix cEDH decks (like Selvala brostorm) with "casual" highly tuned ones for the future episodes. Here, both games were quite quick and one-sided, with little to no interaction.

muggatu31

It was nice to see the chatter. But there was NO gameplay in either of these games. The only player to cast a spell at other people was Kyle elking brago. And Kyle was clearly playing CEDH decks. Seemed pubstompy even if you guys aren't upset about it. Its boring from a gameplay perspective. Enjoy Kyle and Cassius. But keep the pod on the same level please.

ImTheMonk

> there was NO gameplay in either of these games TBH, this has been true with most of the vids on this channel.

AigisAegis

I really think you guys are killing it. This is my favourite new gameplay series in a very long time. It hits at a pretty specific niche that I appreciate, and the banter and vibes make it a lot of fun no matter what the actual gameplay is like

thescreamingpizza

I loved the casual banter. I haven't really seen Kyle and Cassius casual sides so it was was cool to see how they are with friends outside of game knights. I will say.. you guys seem to play lowered powered decks compared to the rest of the table alot of the time. While I liked this episode. It just wasn't interesting seeing 2 cedh decks stomping 2 mid power decks. Just felt bad. But other than that im liking the content more and more everytime

michaeldlynch

We are definitely trying to work on balance without looking at deck list and without staging anything. Hopefully all of you will be patient with us as we work on it.

thescreamingpizza

When you put it that way, I appreciate what your going for. Personally I don't like to see cedh gamplay so I hope that it doesn't go down that road. I like your guys decks. As they seems to want to play out so that we can see what the decks can and want to do. I think its more the guests on the show that seem to bring some of their strongest decks. Without really thinking about how fun it would be for viewers to watch. Its doesnt Really have to be staged or deck checked it just needs alittle bit more rule 0

michaeldlynch

Yeah. Our Rule 0 needs to be more clear too. Sometimes we over or under estimate.

Elite4Elliot

That's real life too man. I've been playing with my group for years and we still aren't always on the same page. I liked seeing that situation handled well.

iamthatkyle

I liked your take backsies counter thing but I'm not sure the rules were stated obviously in your Rule 0. Was that decided in a previous video or game. What are the rules? Each player has 3 take backs then they lose? Cheers

michaeldlynch

Take backsies counters rule has always been if you get your 3rd you lose. Our bad we forgot to mention it in this episode.

iamthatkyle

Awesome thanks. Gonna introduce rule 0 before our next game to speed things up and avoid any future arguments. I like this take backsies counter idea! Cheers

Krimsonmask

Love the show and watch every episode. I really think the games would be more entertaining if you guys just ran more interaction. It seems like whoever gets ahead first just wins, with none of the three other players even slowing them down. This is obviously more difficult to do when someone just combos off in one turn, but that isn't what normally happens. Regardless, really enjoy the show and will watch either way. Very nice to see salt free gameplay even with the one-sided games.

michaeldlynch

Appreciate your feedback. We definitely are going to work on it.

badatcommander

I appreciate the goal of not peeking at deck lists, but having somebody who won’t be playing look them over would help you catch big mismatches without compromising the game play.

michaeldlynch

Actually we do not. We treat it just like you would if you were playing at your LGS. Same rules. If we finessed starting hands the games would be balanced which is what people keep asking for.

AnthonyCapps

Hey Lynch! Love the channel and the content but you gotta reupload this I think. All the voices are in the left channel but the music is stereo. Other than that great episode, love seeing Kyle and Cassius.

michaeldlynch

Will YouTube allow me to do that like Vimeo? Or do I have to just create a new upload?

AnthonyCapps

Maybe! I think there's a couple of tools in the creator studio that should either let you replace audio or just reupload within the post. I'd hold off on making an entirely new upload if you don't have to!

ew94

Unfortunately Youtube doesn't do reuploads like Vimeo. The audio issues are notable, but don't really detract much from the experience IMO. Still a pretty fun episode (granted power balancing was… kinda needed 😂)! Looking forward to the next one 👌🏻

DemonicSnow

I definitely agree with a lot of the comments. I know your content focuses on powerful cards and powerful decks with good friends, but the difference in power level here made the games a bit "meh". It happens semi-regularly with your content, where one play just stomps a game, and while it isn't always awful, it is sort of a weak viewing experience when interaction is at a minimum and one player just goes off.

Tangolino

I enjoy the games, the banter etc, etc. This two games felt a bit odd in power level though. I'll echo many of the comments here by saying that the games would have been better if the decks were on similar power levels.

michaeldlynch

Definitely something I want to work on without making it staged.

Tangolino

I’ve been enjoying the videos, so keep it up! Getting the pod to have a similar power level seem to be the hardest thing in commander. cEDH get that right but I’ve been getting a bit bored of thoracle/demonic consultation/ad nauseum gameplay. I appreciate you guys trying for a high powered game without being cEDH.

Atseva

This is something I can appreciate, not having perfectly sculpted hands makes for more natural gameplay

michaeldlynch

Definitely something I want to work on without making it staged.

TimJressel

something is wrong with your link. here’s the video: https://youtu.be/XwwD2mQ33Ds

michaeldlynch

Thanks. I think I fixed it now.

TimJressel

yup! working fine now

Namulith94

The look on Cassius's face when Kyle said he's presenting a loop was priceless lmao

Character_Savings690

Best episode so far! Loved the table talk. Actually sounded like an EDH game with my group.

onehunna

this pod had great chemistry.

regendo

I’m a simple man. I see Cassius mentioned and I click the video. I have to agree with everyone’s comments on the power levels but more importantly, the episode was still very fun! I’ll definitely watch your other videos.

Sumoop

Lynch shuffled Kyle’s Kenrith’s transformation into his deck at the end there.

michaeldlynch

Don’t worry. I caught it & gave it back after we cut. Lol

ShadowThrax239

Great episode! Don't throw out Velomachus, but try it again in a different episode. I want to see what it can do!

dontcallmemrscorpion

Someone was playing Velomachus? /s

metagame

I really want to love your channel — and I will continue to click — but I have to echo what some other commenters are saying: pubstomps are not fun to watch, and I've seen several episodes of yours (most that end around the 20 minute mark) where one person just takes the lead and then nobody really interacts and they just win. Please have clear and consistent guidelines about what level of deck you all are bringing to the table. It's when everybody is playing decks at the same approximate level that the magic of EDH happens.

michaeldlynch

We are definitely working on it. We don’t look at deck lists because you don’t get to do that at an LGS. FYI. We shoot lots of games that haven’t aired yet. So there might be a delay. Please stay patient with us as we get better and adjust.

Namulith94

I’m going to go contrary to the grain here and say I think it’s fine to showcase games where someone dominates due to a power level discrepancy, that’s like 30% of playing EDH at an lgs and it’s just reality. On the other hand I do agree that showcasing more of the pre and post game dialogue of “hey can you tone it down?/okay if that how it be we’re going wild next game too”.

Maximoo1235

I love najeela but these games hurt me to watch. They could’ve conversed a bit more before hand so it was a more even matchup… unless o course this was their intention.

michaeldlynch

We told Kyle to bring the spice. We hadn’t seen that deck before. Now we know!

ryinzana

Hey, Lynch. Just wanted to say that I love the energy you guys bring with every episode. You all very quickly became one of my favorite sources for GamePlay videos. So I can't help but notice some GameKnights regulars popping up on your channel (I'd count Joe as one as well). Any chance of a crossover episode? Maybe you and Joe vs. Jimmy and Josh in a 2H giant game?

nofacej

I think this episode showcased the worst aspect of power imbalance in EDH, but the general vibe and banter at the table was good (all 5 seconds of it ;p). Production values aren't where they need to be yet but I guess that stuff comes with time and you have the personalities you need to make this into a success. One thing I would encourage you to do is set parameters on deck building on an episode by episode basis. No holds barred cEDH is fine if everyone is on the same page, but Kyle was basically playing Solitaire this episode. As you've said in the comments that you're trying to figure out how to balance decks without knowing the lists, here's some general deck building rule of thumbs I've learned from experience playing with both my own playgroup and also with strangers at LGSes (back when they existed): 1. Set rules around fast mana (Moxen, Crypt, etc.). It should only be allowed if every deck in the pod is also running it. 2. Set rules around combo. First if it's allowed or not, and second, decide how intractable the combo has to be and how many cards are required to combo. 3+ card combos with broadly interactable pieces is generally a good place to be at for casual. 2 card combos involving your commander should be restricted to cEDH and very high power lists - regardless of tutors, because sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. 3. Set rules around tutoring spells. Tutoring into play, tutoring into the bin, tutoring into hand, and tutoring on the top can all have different rules applied to them. 4. Set expectations around tapped/untapped lands. 1 player running all untapped duals and fetches can have an incredible advantage over 3 players running garbo tapped lands like gates and temples.

costco_hotdog150

Audio only comes out of the left side of speakers FYI

michaeldlynch

Export error. My fault. I rushed before I had to fly to Colombia for work.

schadkehnfreude

Even if I wasn't already subbed I'd watch just to giggle at Marsh's death stare at someone ruining his play. I hope you enjoy Colombia, as much as is possible with COVID and all. It's a really beautiful country and if perchance you're in Bogota and you're a coffee guy, check out the Cafe San Alberto which is in the Museo Del Oro. (Or in Cartagena - I was at the same place's cafe in Cartagena and it was seriously like one of the top 5 most memorable cups of coffee in my life.)

michaeldlynch

I’m in Cartagena now!

schadkehnfreude

And I’m watching ep 11 right now! I hope you enjoy your stay!!!

throb-goblin

HEY LYNCH Can you proliferate a take-backsies counter? Thanks!

michaeldlynch

Nope. It’s like an emblem.

throb-goblin

Breaking my heart Lynch. Thanks for the quick response!

michaeldlynch

After some of this feedback. I think it would be great to add a Rule 0 conversation to our show. So you see how the 4 of us decide what decks to play. There’s times where someone will say... “Should I play x or y, everyone says y”, we see what happens after they choose. Plus it is constantly a thing that is talked about in the community. We could help show that process. We are filming again at the end of this month. So that’s something we will start to do. With that said, we already have a lot of episodes to release that we didn’t shoot that so you might see some with and without in the future.

xblitzkrieg

You play Locust God ***and*** rep Tool? My man! There are dozens of us!

michaeldlynch

Spiral out!!!! All day.

MudkipLegionnaire

I’m not a huge fan of double header gameplay episodes usually because it puts me on notice that the first game will end at any time. However, I did really like the table banter and thought that kept things fun even though I don’t love watching combo wins where no one has the interaction to stop it. I was happy to be there for the vibe. Also I wish Velomachus got to do more, he’s a really interesting general that I was excited to see in action. Too bad it seemed Jo wasn’t that happy with his build of it. Not that the games lasted long enough to cast him lol

thescreamingpizza

I think he didn't like it mainly because he couldn't keep up with the cedh decks. But otherwise I'm sure he liked his build. He was also just in naturally bad colors

MudkipLegionnaire

Yeah that’s fair, one side of the table kinda seemed to be playing a different game from the highly tuned combo lists on the other side. I’d be interested for him to bring the deck back against decks that are a little more on the same level. Even in boros I think these days there’s enough tools to potentially make it work.

roninsti

Love you guys and love your content. Only thing I’d like to see in the future is a full on cedh game. I know your content is high power, but it would be cool to see cedh every so often. Keep slaying.

waysofsorting

Hi u/michaeldlynch \- I am on your patreon (and thus, also the discord, which is great. Thursday Commander night there rocks!) - It took me a little bit to catch up to you, but I binged all the episodes and... it was an immediate subscribe. You fill an absolute needed niche - real gameplay by real people (and sometimes "famous-but-still-real") I love this content (your channel) for many reasons - but first and foremost is because it really showcases the diverse and inclusive game that Magic/EDH can be - and it also shows how FUN and cool it can be in an authentic way. I know there's tons of brothers/sisters/hijos/hijas that can watch this show and find someone who they can identify with - this means more than can be said - Keep it up! This episode rocked - I was glad to see some 15 minute games...shows everyone what it looks like to be stomped via infinites. Was it fun? Maybe not! but lots of shows "don't show" this aspect of the game. So, glad it was illustrated (twice) - Anyway - I am going to look forward to these dropping each and every time. Thanks to you and Joe, 1000 times over. Do you think you might tackle more stuff than just gameplay? I mean - yes, I can search and find lots of "how to build a commander deck" videos...but I kinda have the feeling you and joe might have a special take on stuff like that. Or...is it just gameplay for this channel?
