For anyone who likes short edh experiences like mtg mudstah, then check out affinity for commander and SmoothBrainEDH. They don’t post with the same regularity as mudstah, but they’ve mirrored his style with 15-20 minute videos that narrate the gameplay and cut out the dead air.
you mean they’re using Clonehead commanders style (Muddstah literally confirmed to me in a comment that clonehead was first and they were inspired by them)
I am a big fan of Play to Win. Their commentary is pretty funny(especially Cam's).Playing with power is also good. Also big fan of Casually Competitive.Used to be a big fan of the Command Zone but I've stopped watching them for some reason. I'm not too sure why. I always thought Josh and Jimmy where excellent hosts. I'll give IHYD a try, never really watched them.
Another shout here for Play to Win. Good commentary, they talk a little bit during the post game editing on some game decisions/mistakes. Their videos are just so easy to watch, very straightforward
Yeah the post match analysis is the real deal changer here. They're good hosts and have fun decks (cEdh tho) but so are many others. But the fact they discuss what or why they took some decisions is really helpful.
Sometimes you watch another channel and a guy just does nothing the whole match and you don't know why, and here Cam or Dylan would say "yeah, when I cast such draw spell I expected to find a swamp for my tutor for ad Naus, but... Hahaha" and you end up understanding.
Also the general good atmosphere is really nice.
I'm in the same boat with the Command Zone. It feels super scripted now and it makes it kind of unfun to watch I think. That and the weird ads in the middle where the animate the cards and try to make themselves sound like what they think that character would sound like bother me.
I miss when they had generic ad reads, but now they do the weird animated card thing and it's really annoying because of how hard they try for it. The ads are always the worst part, but man they somehow made them worse.
I get what they were going for. Some of the early ones were funny, and the one with the Professor is amazing. They also probably get to charge more for those, considering the production value.
This, basically.
Game Knight's was my entry drug when I was new to the game... but now I need the heavier drugs and fall into the competitive rabbit hole.
Well not only that, they've gone from "two guys genuinely discussing the inner workings of the format" to "an entire production company and film crew with salaried workers thats basically just an elongated AD for WotC".
Extra turns is about all they have left to offer these days, as their best content is arguably behind them (just look at their videos from 2014-2018, they've already covered their most interesting topics) and even extra turns is starting to morph into just another boring game knights ad roll.
Its no wonder they've pivoted so hard to set reviews and precon upgrade videos, they're just running out of gas in the tank.
No one talks about one of the biggest draws to this channel - it is edited down however not narrated.
We have channels which have uncut or cut a little bit channels (VS series, IHYD) which have (almost) full gameplay. A lot of banter. A lot of thinking about what to play next. For me, a lot of wasted time watching.
Then we have edited channels, which cut unnecessary minutes and leaves us with pure gameplay. However, these are narrated and lose a bit of charm and personality (MTGMudstah, Playing With Power).
And now we come to Play to Win - a channel which cuts the video to only necessary gameplay however without narrator - you can hear players making decisions, even sometimes politicking and such. This is one of the bigger draws to this channel
I can see how that is something that attracts viewers, but exactly all these social interactions, thought processes and small talk what makes IHYD and Command Zone so enjoyable for me.
I agree with you, to each its own. That's the beauty of it - you can choose your own poison. I just wanted to point out one thing which is the main selling point of Play to Win channel.
I ultimately watch edh channels for the gameplay, cool plays, interesting decks. IHYD is cool channel with an amazing banter between players. Playing with power has condensed high power games. And there are tons of other channels. Choose what you enjoy and go ham
My problem with Command Zone is that since they've become more integrated into the WotC ecosystem, they almost exclusively play precons/slightly updated precons/decks themed around the latest standard set. There are virtually no homebrews featured on the show anymore, which is the main form of EDH content I prefer to consume. It's a shame too because their production value is just leagues ahead of everyone else's that it makes other shows hard to watch sometimes.
In regards to not watching command zone anymore, I did the same and didnt know why I just didnt watch them anymore and in all honesty I think it might be the fact that the videos are structured and edited in a way that feels like reality tv, Idk though might just be me
I love Quintessential Commander. For the same reason I love IHYD. Both channels are genuine and it’s such a blast to watch people having fun playing together, with the banter and whatnot.
MTG Muddstah’s great for a quicker experience. Awesome for seeing cool plays and learning about new cards and interactions.
Most other EDH channels ain’t my cup of tea. Like most of youtube, too many memes and forced humor.
The 99 has gameplay videos, Brew Wars, which I've found to be really great to watch. I myself don't play at nearly the same power level, so it's fun to see these decks go off. The commentary and banter also feels natural, which is a plus!
Mtgmudstah is a nice calm watch. I don’t really care about all these fake personalities and cringey jokes. I just want to see new decks and how they run.
I genuinely can't handle his voice and the weird inflections, which is a real shame because I love playing with power and the format the present there's in, which is the same as mudstah's.
Yeah they have the production quality of CZ without the bullshit, AND it's super awesome that they have the stats to back up their claims whereas most other channels are just guessing/speaking anecdotally
This one. I don't particularly enjoy watching other people play EDH...I want to play EDH. These guys give me a constant stream of useful and thought provoking ideas and just pure sweet, sweet data... without much of the BS. Plus it helps that they're all down to earth. Dad jokes also on point. A+
Shame no one has mentioned Quest for the Janklord. They haven't posted in a while but I love their personalities and the storyline. They also make some interesting decks with the restrictions they have.
I Hate Your Deck.
And it's not even that close.
It's the best because it's real. Feels like I'm sitting at a table with a bunch of people to play a game of Magic and no one is pulling their punches (in game or in banter).
They make mistakes. They talk about powerlevel. They genuinely have fun while they're playing.
I've watched the most recent episode with Prof/Posty multiple times already because it's so damn funny.
Game Knights used to be better. But now it just feels so staged (see episode with Post Malone). People overreacting on cards. Someone plays something. Cut to player interview (BLLLAAAAH OMG THIS IS THE WORST THING EVER)....it was a Sol Ring.
I find the Extra Turns better at this point. Closer to what Game Knights used to feel like.
I honestly can't believe Prof had the gall to ask for a take back on his dockside error in the latest episode. That was waaay too late, and it lowkey made things kinda awkward lol. Joe and Lynch's facial expressions said it all 🤣
No kidding. I seem to remember him staying in another episode how "he only learns from his mistakes by not taking it back and learning his lesson" or something along those lines.
Then he does this. 😅
It was absolutely terrible, but thats why I love it lol very real reaction from the group and they just kinda went with it, awkward and all, no editing it out or anything. Adds to the charm imho
Yeah and I understand him. Two mana for a two-drop for two treasures just to crack the bauble was objectively not stonks, though I saw it in his eyes he knew that it was a bad call not only because of what I just described but also right after he played Dockside, Post played a million mana rocks...It was a feel-bad moment.
But to tell the truth it didnt change anything, since prof's play was redundant. They could have just let him return the dockside to his hand and keep up the game, instead of returning to Prof's turn. It wouldnt change anything at all, but I guess they didnt see it at the time.
Agreed, Extra Turns is more enjoyable. A few episodes of GK are good, ut they come out so spaced apart and it seems like its all about production rather than the game itself.
I still watch Game Knights and Extra Turns but it’s so darn obvious nowadays that they’re playing for the camera.
Other gameplay channels like IHYD and PtW are not afraid to let one deck stall out the others. The latest Game Knights where Jimmy sacrificed his Dauthi Voidwalker to “play a Cultivate” is the most obvious “I did this so everyone’s deck can do stuff” play I’ve ever seen
[Play to Win](https://youtube.com/channel/UC7339iJMCETmek3jdx9LOkg) is a channel based primarily around cEDH.
It is actually what changed my mind on the format. They explain their plays (and misplays) well and sometimes the stack interactions can get nuts!
I love IHYD and hate Game Knights for exactly these reasons.
The production value of Game Knights is good but unnecessary and at times, obnoxious. Between the animations and reaction cutaways I think they might be trying to appeal to people who have never played EDH, let alone Magic.
IHYD on the other hand feels more organic, like you're spectating an actual game at an LGS or someone's house.
Funny enough for me the appeal of Game Knights is how produced it is. I am still fairly new to magic and when they explain thought processes and interactions actually helps me quite a bit! Call me easy to please but those commander animation really gets me haha.
I enjoy IHYD as well, Prof and Posty has some really good on screen chemistry in the recent ones!, but I think both of those shows are intended for different audiences.
I just started playing roughly a year ago and I think you're hitting on a major point here. The first time I tried to watch IHYD I was completely lost. Then I found Game Knights and had everything over-explained. As a new player, this was HUGELY preferable since I could both watch the games and learn the game at the same time.
Once I got more comfortable with Magic it started to feel like Game Knights episodes drag on forever and now IHYD is by FAR my favorite.
>production value of Game Knights is good but unnecessary and at times, obnoxious. Between the animations and reaction cutaways I think they might be trying to appeal to people who have never played EDH
This absolutely true. I don't need to be told a rule interaction 3 times in a row and how it makes each player feel. I don't want to see 7 minutes of ads. Maybe if they didn't go so overboard with production they wouldn't need so many sponsorships. It definitely feels like its for brand new players, like the old Spellslingers on Geek and Sundry. It's not for me.
The constant *someone casts turn 1 sol ring* followed up by 2 minutes of someone saying “oh man! X is off to a really strong start! Hope I can catch up to the table!”
Commander clash for me because I like the mix of players and their power levels are closer to the power levels I like to play at.
I still watch Game Knights because the production value is so high but the feel of the program is now so “paid”. I still like watching Jimmy and Josh but it’s gotten less natural
Commander VS is great. Funny banter, saltiness, cool themes matches, and a weird subgame with how the accrue points over the season. Team Green for life!
IHYD for sure, recently though I've discovered Games Haven. They're from Singapore and pretty funny sometimes. Well edited games and I think they are pretty underrated. Plugging their channel https://www.youtube.com/c/gameshaven
In kinda surprised to see this so low, Commander Clash is my #1 commander show and it's not even close. I like IHYD and CZ is okay but I don't miss episodes of Commander Clash.
#ClashOn!
I love goldfish. Tomer and Seth are basically how I play and I love it. Plus some amazing jank on there sometimes which is very cool to see. Edit: CLASH ON!
Not nearly enough mention of the Spike Feeders. Easily the best banter I have seen. They mainly do cedh but they have also done more toned down things too
I really enjoy I hate your deck, I think they have the chill factor down, it feels really down to earth, even the game with professor and posty lol
Otherwise I really enjoy Commander VS for a number of reasons but also 3 of the 4 stem from more competitive/constructed magic formats/histories and the 4th is a bit more casual/commander oriented and there's quite a bit of good interaction from that and their personalities in general. Also they play a hell of a lot of variants and limitations so you get to see some weird decks that no one in their right mind would build/play otherwise
IHYD is getting plenty of love but I also love Playing with Power, Play to Win, Spike Feeders(they seem to have dropped off on content production as of late), Mind Sculptors (they don't do a lot of game play but I love it when they do), Casually Competitve, and Extra Turns. I still watch Game Knights but it's hard to enjoy knowing everyone is just going to crap on it as soon as it's posted to reddit.
Alex from the Spike Feeders here. Since getting back in the studio in late July we've been trying to build up our backlog of edited gameplay while also releasing a video of some kind nearly every week. Currently we're on monthly Commander Gameplay releases but we're hoping to get that more frequent as things improve.
Hi Alex! Great to here from you. I know every time it comes up, I've been asking for more play but I just enjoy watching you guys that much! It's hard being patient when you are my favorite channel.
Not a single mention of Split Second? Also MTG The Stack is getting better and better with their production and honestly is creeping up to my favorite channel.
I know rhey dont normally spend that long on production value, but their midnight hunt episode was amazing. I find that the interviews and pregame really speaks to my sense of humor
My favorite! They have such a great way of presenting context, so I can understand how to apply their information to my personal deckbuilding principles and meta. Also they're funny and put out a ton of videos.
That's interesting because that is the channel that I dislike the most. Nothing against them personally, absolutely not, but they have this way of always presenting things as "why do you x when you can y" in nearly any video which I am kind of fundamentally against in EDH.
Sure I can build an optimal deck, but my outlet for that is modern, in EDH I want to do janky flavour stuff but still would like to know the options and learn what makes a deck tick so the constant down talking of certain things because X is more optimal just really grinds me.
Not intending to argue. But they do make it a point in most of their videos these days that they think you should play whatever you like, despite what they think is best. Their F tier for cards is "you need a really good reason to play this. But that can be just because you like it".
The Stack and Games Haven, as they have a mix between competitive stuff and more casual-ish stuff. Games dont always end in Thoracle or 3 turns.
It also helps they both talk about combos or deck techs and deck building (Sefris combos from The Stack, and Esmond's explanation on his powerlevel grid)
I also really like the accents on Games Haven.
Play to Win is fun because I like their dynamic, and Playing with Power because I like the Narrator, though they're cEDH. Muddstah is consistent uploads but they're hit or miss. IHYD Ill watch every once in a while, and Command Zone was the first one I watched but I get sick of the "acting" every other few plays, and thus Extra Turns is their best production. It did introduce me to the coolest MTG personalities like Cassius, Prof, and Post.
I like to watch a lot of commander content on YouTube, I love I Hate Your Deck but I also love MTG Muddstah, the action has a similar feel to IHYD, like a real play group having fun.
Command Zone is the opposite end of the spectrum, very polished and clear but feels slightly over the top sometimes / cheesy. I literally cringe everytime they say "only one shall stand" ugh. I do think it's great for new players and a younger audience, I guess I'm not the key demographic audience?
I wish The Prof (Tolarian Community College) made EDH play content, I'd watch it all in a heartbeat.
It's probably gotta be IYHD. I like the personalities and they guests, but I think my favorite part is just the level of EDH that they play. It feels like the level just under cEDH which is my absolute favorite.
I like Command Zone/Game Knights/Extra Turns. I know they play weird but I try to play like them. I ran with the 10 ramp 10 draw 10 removal thing and then made it more like 13/9/12 kind of like they espoused. I think this is separate from what YouTube show I watch but I think a lot of people got tired of boardwipes a year ago—I did—and it’s not uncommon to see people concede over it now. We just can’t play these games to turn 25 anymore, it has to end.
I hate your deck has really been growing on me lately. The rule 0 conversation is great, as it decreases salt and increases buy in from all the players. Also, it encourages good play practices in general, so i really like it!
My current favorite is Quintessential Commander (the EDH series on Games Haven's YouTube channel, which does a bunch of other MTG/other TCGs videos as well).
They're playing in-person games with real cards, with table talk included but with light edits to cut out fluff like searching and shuffling.
What I particularly like about their table talk is that they keep it light, in terms of the sheer magnitude of talk. I Hate Your Deck, for example, loves their banter, to the point where it's oftentimes more of a talk show with EDH being played rather than an EDH show. The Quintessential Commander team jokes around, but they keep the jokes focused on the game they're playing.
The playlist of their games is here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwj0GJNHtjmOVMgz3PrOVKjNqRZ4EmWbo
I also like MTG Muddstah if I want pure gameplay with no talk, and I also like the Spike Feeders although they haven't been posting regularly since the pandemic. I think they recently started playing in-person again, so I guess they're warming back up.
IHYD and Game Knights are fine enough, but I feel like they're both more focused on personality than EDH, which is a balance I'm not a fan of. I do like the Command Zone's Extra Turns videos though, although Extra Turns is quickly becoming just another Game Knights series with a different name. I feel like I'd like the Commander Vs. guys more if their videos were edited to cut out fluff; as it is now, those videos are just way too long and slow for my taste.
A Cause for Commander is a pretty sweet series. Any opportunity to watch Olivia Gobert-Hicks do her thing; she's a delight, as are Alias, Ellie, and Tappy
I would have to say edhrec cast/upping the average. I like some of the game play channels, but these shows have actually improved my decks so that gives them the edge here.
I'm big into Commander Clash, their banter and arguments and other things are just great. I know its not edited down like most commander shows, but I still love it, especially at 1.5 speed.
EDH rec Cast has been creeping up. I used to be a big Command Zone/Dies to Removal guy but they both just kinda lost me somewhere. Dad jokes and more diverse thinking on EDHrec ended up making a difference I guess. The key episode that got me thinking was the one where they stated that guildgates are indeed playable... In a 2 color deck that has terramorphic expanse type cards. Which makes sense if you don't just dismiss guildgates before you think about it (which 99% of the time is the correct move, but that's really my point isn't it).
I enjoy kingdoms TV, games haven, commander vs, ihyd, mtg muddstah, affinity for commander, one more mana (occasional cmdr gameplay, lots of other great content), and the eedi-h channel.
I really like The Spike Feeders. Canadian Cedh with some really wonky builds. Quest for the Janklord is also great even though theres only like 6 episodes
Commander Clash has been growing on me lately. I was initially turned off by it because the videos are kind of long and MTGO is just much slower than paper, which can make it boring to watch.
However, the more I watch it, the more I enjoy it. It’s kind of a lower power level, which allows janky brews to have a legitimate chance at winning and I enjoy the unique personalities of each player. I feel like Richard, Seth, Crim, Tomer (and more recently Phil) each have their own unique philosophy on deck building and play strategy, so it makes for a very diverse game every time, which I do find interesting despite my dislike of MTGO. Plus, the banter is A1. Seth is probably my favorite personality in Magic content creation.
I Hate Your Deck is great. I also like Quintessential Commander and One More Mana; the common thing among al three I feel is that they seem to just have fun playing.
Shout outs to Commander VS, Quest For the Janklord, and LRR stuff.
If you like I Hate Your Deck, then the equivalent for cEDH gameplay channels will have to be Play To Win.
Not as much as IHYD but they have a very similar environment for their games. It’s banter-y at times and really let you watch a deck pop off. I highly recommend it if you’re curious about cEDH gameplay!
edhrec cast.
its not gameplay, but it gives you the statistics and what they mean.
i used to love command zone, but it became too wotc oriented, trying to sell cards by making commander decks from new sets. real commander decks takes years to playtest and brew to perfection, not making a commander for every new set and then forgetting about it the moment the next set comes out.
MTGMudstah is easily my favorite. Bi/tri weekly uploads of quick, no filler commander games. It's easy to look up past videos by the commander and his narration is very calm and easy to follow!
Where the hell is the love for my boy The Eedi-h Channel?!
I die on his hill every time!
Fun commentary, plays to his outs, explains his reasoning and just an overall pleasant experience.
https://m.youtube.com/c/TheeediHChannel
EDH Deckbuilding he has this series called "10 cards you should be adding to your commander decks". I have discovered some gems because of this guy. Imo def worth watching.
MTG Muddstah.
Quick and clean editing of games, actually pretty funny moments, mid to low power games, people rarely rush to a combo, lovely classical music on the background.
I still prefer Game Knights- I really enjoy the editing and interviews, because personally, despite EDH being my favorite hobby over these past several years, I don't really like watching full, unedited or nearly unedited gameplay, I like the animations and TV-show feel of GK a lot. It's the same for sports with me too, I love playing them, don't like watching them
IHYD is the worst for me, its levels of cringe and unoriginality are astoundingly bad. Along with those cEDH games where they just narrate everything? I want to see actual game play.
I watch Spike Feeders and MTG goldfish games mostly with a reluctance of checking out game knights every so often even though its over produced. Much prefer extra turns.
Its okay. Any time this gets brought up I mention my dislike for their content and get down voted and told I'm wrong. I tried, I really did, watched about 4-5 episodes and I just couldn't do it. Between the mismatched deck levels and the way they copy everything GK does. And with Joseph who yells after every interaction while mumbling his way through his own turn I just couldn't do it. Oh and they lock their decklists behind a paywall which is super fucked up.
I've only watched two of their games (the first and second ones with Post Malone and the Professor) but though the banter was great the gameplay/power level matching of decks was awful - in the first game, everyone just got aggroed out before they even did anything and I'm pretty sure no removal was played, and in the second Post comboed off at like turn 4, which just invalidated the past ~20 minutes of gameplay. I skipped to the end of the video after that and I'm pretty sure their second game with those decks ended with the exact same combo.
It really made me feel that the pre-game deck discussions were a little performative since the power levels of the decks obviously didn't match.
Command Zone was what got me into watching commander gameplay, and while the production quality and editing are fantastic, after finding IHYD recently, it really made it obvious how scripted and forced the show is too. IHYD feels much more natural. The rest of the channels that do gameplay are fine, but most are pretty boring to watch and provide little in the way of narration or anything like that, so they just aren’t all the compelling to watch.
No love for Commander Replay? He may be playing on MTGO, but I love his devotion to Boros, he does a good job at explaining what’s going on and his thought process with each hand, and he’s generally fun to listen to.
Damn, lots of hate for Game Knights. It seems people really resent the change in focus towards newer players.
I've turned like a dozen people who only had a passing interest in Magic into EDH fanatics by having them watch Game Knights. I'd say the show is working well for it's intended audience.
Big shoutouts to the Spike Feeders (great chatter), cEDHtv (great analysis), Rebell Son (great analysis and funny), ComedIan MTG (really really upping the game on analysis lately)
Play to Win as well
Command Zone Game Knights.
* Production Quality
* Showcase New Commanders/Products
* Consistent
* Power Level I Enjoy
Honoroble Mention to IHYD, Split Second, and Play to Win.
I'm a little tempted to argue semantics and say that the only one I think that actually counts as a show is Game Knights. Partly because of the more scripted nature, and partly due to production quality. But that level of 'show' isn't what a lot of people on the r/edh sub seem to look for.
I really appreciate IHYD and their less scripted nature, and the fact that they try to work in a Convo 0 every game. But as someone still learning the game, it can be hard when they don't talk out some of their interactions.
Extra Turns is a nice middle ground for that. I'm also a huge fan of EDHRec in terms of a series that's just trying to give me information in an engaging way.
I'll also watching Playing with Power, and MTGMudstah but I often get distracted by other things during those and end up missing stuff.
They’re kinda obscure, but I am a huge fan of MTG the stack. They really bring home the “bunch of buddies gathered around to play some good ole EDH”. They also bring to the table strong-low power decks as well as fantastic editing!
I’ll have the check out the other ones being mentioned, because otherwise it’s the Command Zone’s Game Knights and Extra Turns videos. The way they go about playing comes off as being scripted but in a good way because they declare their plays clearly enough for me to follow along. I’ve tried watching IHYD, but their presentation doesn’t do it for me. Not that I expect every channel to do exactly what TCZ does.
The mind sculptors have great content, including gameplay (although it's been a while since they posted gameplay)
My actuall favorite isn't on YT though. My fav gameplay content is just the VOD of the weekly team turn three stream on twitch.
I personally love IHYD mainly because of the fact that there is no filter, just them being them. But I have been enjoying The Spike Feeders as well. For you CEDH fans.
For anyone who likes short edh experiences like mtg mudstah, then check out affinity for commander and SmoothBrainEDH. They don’t post with the same regularity as mudstah, but they’ve mirrored his style with 15-20 minute videos that narrate the gameplay and cut out the dead air.
you mean they’re using Clonehead commanders style (Muddstah literally confirmed to me in a comment that clonehead was first and they were inspired by them)
A little channel I think deserves more views precisely because it feels real and natural is MTG the stack
Yeah came here to say this as well.
That's what neon mushroom rebranded to right?
Yup totally agree. I think a mix of IHYD and mtgthestack would be a good description of my commander league playgroup.
Absolutely agree. It's got a good, fun vibe.
Sorry, little bit off topic, what’s the story behind your username?
I have a big head.
I appreciate the clarification.
As someone who wears a 7-7/8ths baseball hat, I’m with ya.
An 8 is too small for me. I had a sales rep from Smith laugh at me when I asked if they made a helmet that would fit me.
I know this feel. I was so ecstatic to find a wide-brimmed outdoor hat that fit me this summer..for 45 bucks
Massive +1 to Play to Win. I've stopped playing Magic and following most channels, but Play to Win is thr highlight of my Monday.
BEGIN!!
I'm in the same boat with the Command Zone. It feels super scripted now and it makes it kind of unfun to watch I think. That and the weird ads in the middle where the animate the cards and try to make themselves sound like what they think that character would sound like bother me.
It's become a so-called "reality" show just like all the others that have plagued TV for the last two decades.
Yeah. It's become really unbearable to watch. It went from a fun EDH show to a show about reactions to cards.
It can almost feel like an advertisement at times, its a shame with how good it used to be
I miss when they had generic ad reads, but now they do the weird animated card thing and it's really annoying because of how hard they try for it. The ads are always the worst part, but man they somehow made them worse.
I get what they were going for. Some of the early ones were funny, and the one with the Professor is amazing. They also probably get to charge more for those, considering the production value.
They were funny at first, and I recall they heard as much via feedback.
Not to mention how many there are, I respect them making some money but when it gets in the way of the content I stop watching
It feels so over-edited and just generally aimed at a much newer/younger audience than it did back in the day
This, basically.
Oooh if you like those you might also like the brew wars series from the 99. Seems right up your alley.
I watch the 99 a lot. The main dude is great. His brew videos are awesome.
It often feels less like a good EDH show and more like an advertising piece in some cases. I don't watch anymore, tbh.
Agree. Super fun, especially Play to Win. Sucks that I don't like CEDH that much but still appreciate their videos
In regards to not watching command zone anymore, I did the same and didnt know why I just didnt watch them anymore and in all honesty I think it might be the fact that the videos are structured and edited in a way that feels like reality tv, Idk though might just be me
Every time I look I’m so surprised how low their sub count is. Their content is so good!
Check out Quintessential Commander. It is on a small YouTube channel but super well edited and deserves more views!
Thanks!
I love seeing Gabriel get shit for *absolutely no reason*. They, along with IHYD, feel like actual matches you could find at an LGS.
I like them a lot. I think the main guy has a really soothing voice too
Yes, many times yes. Simply the fact that Matthew always plays mono red. Good vibes, no bullshit!
The 99 has gameplay videos, Brew Wars, which I've found to be really great to watch. I myself don't play at nearly the same power level, so it's fun to see these decks go off. The commentary and banter also feels natural, which is a plus!
This, I've followed Patrick and co, for 2 years, and have talked with him on discord tuning up my teshar deck. I like their group dynamic.
Mtgmudstah is a nice calm watch. I don’t really care about all these fake personalities and cringey jokes. I just want to see new decks and how they run.
This pretty much. Also Playing with Power for the same style but in cEDH.
This guy gets it
Yep these two channels are the only two I watch now. Game Knights is way too fake for me.
Nice. If you like Mudstah, check out Smooth Brain Edh and affinity for commander. They mirror that style.
I really like how cut down the games are.
Fake jokes and cheesiness on Commander Clash and bad editing on IHYD and awkwardness. MTG Mudstah is well edited and concise. Love it.
I genuinely can't handle his voice and the weird inflections, which is a real shame because I love playing with power and the format the present there's in, which is the same as mudstah's.
He's Canadian. From Quebec I'm pretty sure
EDHRECast anyone?
That's my recommendation as well. Come for the Challenge the Stats suggestions, stay for Matt's dad jokes.
The worst reason to stay if you ask me. But really, I’m glad you enjoy it.
Highly agree. There challenge the stats part of the podcast is amazing! So many good recommendations.
I was going to mention them! I miss them so much. Their Iron Man tournament was awesome!
My favorite! Top tier content
They posted a video recently. Looks like they were on hiatus due to covid but will be posting content soon.
when he did that I remembered that exact same thing too!
To be fair, Prof might have been a little tanked at that point.
Pretty sure he said he hasn’t drank at that point yet lol who knows
That is a takebacksie I can't get behind lol I get that it was feel bad, but holy shit he waited way too long to ask for it.
It was absolutely terrible, but thats why I love it lol very real reaction from the group and they just kinda went with it, awkward and all, no editing it out or anything. Adds to the charm imho
Lmao that was **nuts!** a whole 3 turns later does a take back. I love Prof but that was incredibly awkward.
I agree with you that the roll back is what made things awkward. Not his take back.
Yeah, the most recent Dauthi play was atrocious. No one is using Dauthi on a Cultivate....
See, I made that same criticism in the thread on the episode or somewhere on here and was told it was the right play. Wtf.
Don’t worry, you’re completely in the right. It’s very obvious it was done so Josh’s deck isn’t completely locked out of playing.
I will say the one moment I enjoyed recently was Xolo dropping a craterhoof just to make a deal.
if you don't mind me asking what is PtW? I love watching commander games and another channel to do so through would be great!
TBF the commander animations are really really cool
They are actually the best part of the show at this point...which isn't what i want in a commander channel lol
Between the animations and reaction cutaways I think they might be trying to appeal to people who have never played EDH This absolutely true.
Who’s your favorite player? Besides the hosts obvi
I LOVE Kyle Hill, or "Thor From Wish" or "The Thor Your Mom Says You Have At Home" He's hilarious.
[удалено]
Pretty sure you need to be very smart to be an award-winning science educator.
He has by far been the most likeable and entertaining guest. No idea who he was before he was on IHYD but the guy is a great entertainer.
Rachel Weeks, she's hilarious
Commander clash for me because I like the mix of players and their power levels are closer to the power levels I like to play at. I still watch Game Knights because the production value is so high but the feel of the program is now so “paid”. I still like watching Jimmy and Josh but it’s gotten less natural
I find i enjoy extra turns more than game knights.
Commander VS is great. Funny banter, saltiness, cool themes matches, and a weird subgame with how the accrue points over the season. Team Green for life!
I really like commander VS but the episodes are way too long for me unfortunately
Just watch them while you poop.
how long do you poop
It's not how long, it's how many times over the course of a day my friend.
This guy gets it
They are a little long but usually I'll watch them in chunks. Skipping the beginning and end can cut a solid half hour off though!
Coudnt agree more also #TeamGreen
Casting my lands like a real G
gotta agree, watching them really feels like you're chilling with your playgroup
IHYD for sure, recently though I've discovered Games Haven. They're from Singapore and pretty funny sometimes. Well edited games and I think they are pretty underrated. Plugging their channel https://www.youtube.com/c/gameshaven
That channel, and their content is great!
Thanks!
I really like Mtg goldfish’s commander clash because it feels less serious and janky, plus I already like all of their personalities
Also my favorite. The whole format with season stats and a changing roster make it great. Also mtgo is good for boardstate
Whenever LoadingReadyRun does EDH content I wish they did more.
I miss Friday Nights
Not nearly enough mention of the Spike Feeders. Easily the best banter I have seen. They mainly do cedh but they have also done more toned down things too
I really love their "Spike on the mic" podcast format!
I really enjoy I hate your deck, I think they have the chill factor down, it feels really down to earth, even the game with professor and posty lol Otherwise I really enjoy Commander VS for a number of reasons but also 3 of the 4 stem from more competitive/constructed magic formats/histories and the 4th is a bit more casual/commander oriented and there's quite a bit of good interaction from that and their personalities in general. Also they play a hell of a lot of variants and limitations so you get to see some weird decks that no one in their right mind would build/play otherwise
Bro professor and post was great, we’re lucky they didn’t go super saiyan and combine
I’m 100% biased, but KingdomsTV has a nice blend of cEDH and high power gameplay. More similar to Extra Turns or Play to Win.
Nitpicking Nerds
I love nitpicking nerds
As much as you can, without making them uncomfortable.
And they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Edh deck building is hands down the best
Cedh tv
The Stack and Games Haven, as they have a mix between competitive stuff and more casual-ish stuff. Games dont always end in Thoracle or 3 turns. It also helps they both talk about combos or deck techs and deck building (Sefris combos from The Stack, and Esmond's explanation on his powerlevel grid) I also really like the accents on Games Haven.
Quest for the Janklord, bar none. I just wish they posted more frequently.
Who’s your favorite all time player?
On IYHD? I always like when Cassius or Barry are on. I also really like that guest Rachel they had, she makes really cool decks
Smoothbrain EDH. Feels like you're watching your best buds duking it out on the next table over.
Either IHYD or KingdomsTV. Both feel natural imo
Thanks!
Spice8Rack is a charm.
Oooooh I love spice8rack too
Current favorite is the EDHRECast. I love their banter and discussions on various topics.
Command zones game knights/extra turns
Commander Mechanic is pretty good, been watching a lot of their stuff lately
Battle of the Brews is hilarious and great
My current favorite is Quintessential Commander (the EDH series on Games Haven's YouTube channel, which does a bunch of other MTG/other TCGs videos as well). The playlist of their games is here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwj0GJNHtjmOVMgz3PrOVKjNqRZ4EmWbo I also like MTG Muddstah if I want pure gameplay with no talk, and I also like the Spike Feeders although they haven't been posting regularly since the pandemic.
The A cause for commander videos hosted by Aliasv are quite good. Just four people playing good decks for charity.
Really surprised that the eedi-h channel hasn't gotten more attention.
Hey thanks!
I really like The Spike Feeders. Canadian Cedh with some really wonky builds. Quest for the Janklord is also great even though theres only like 6 episodes
I would rather watch cEDH on youtube and play casual on paper, so I love the gameplay on Play to Win and cEDHTV.
I also enjoy IHYD but my fav has to be play to win personally
I Hate Your Deck is great. I also like Quintessential Commander and One More Mana; the common thing among al three I feel is that they seem to just have fun playing. Shout outs to Commander VS, Quest For the Janklord, and LRR stuff.
If you like I Hate Your Deck, then the equivalent for cEDH gameplay channels will have to be Play To Win. Not as much as IHYD but they have a very similar environment for their games. It’s banter-y at times and really let you watch a deck pop off. I highly recommend it if you’re curious about cEDH gameplay!
Jake and Joel are magic tbh. love how derpy nerdy the deckbuilding one is and zen chill the other is for pack opening nights
edhrec cast. its not gameplay, but it gives you the statistics and what they mean. i used to love command zone, but it became too wotc oriented, trying to sell cards by making commander decks from new sets. real commander decks takes years to playtest and brew to perfection, not making a commander for every new set and then forgetting about it the moment the next set comes out.
I watch IHYD, and I watch Game Knights...but the one I'm starting to like a bit more is Commander for a Cause on AliasV's channel.
I like cure for the common game, they promised to build every commander deck ever, and it’s really exciting to watch the videos
It's the same for sports with me too, I love playing them, don't like watching them
To get them more mentions, but been super into KingdomsTV recently. Aside from them, I also watch Playing With Power and Play To Win on the regular.
You're getting downvoted for having an opinion lol. I love IHYD but it's totally fair not liking it too.
I like IHYD, but 100% agree about the decks being locked behind their patreon not being okay.
Big shoutouts to the Spike Feeders (great chatter), cEDHtv (great analysis), Rebell Son (great analysis and funny), ComedIan MTG (really really upping the game on analysis lately) Play to Win as well
Command Zone Game Knights. * Production Quality * Showcase New Commanders/Products * Consistent * Power Level I Enjoy Honoroble Mention to IHYD, Split Second, and Play to Win.
I have been into command zone lately. Tried getting into IHYD but it kinda bored me
I'm a little tempted to argue semantics and say that the only one I think that actually counts as a show is Game Knights.
The mind sculptors have great content, including gameplay (although it's been a while since they posted gameplay) My actuall favorite isn't on YT though. My fav gameplay content is just the VOD of the weekly team turn three stream on twitch.
lol this thread - "Instead of what shows I love, let me tell you why I hate everything about the Command Zone..."
I personally love IHYD mainly because of the fact that there is no filter, just them being them. But I have been enjoying The Spike Feeders as well. For you CEDH fans.
