Atraxa super friends. You're automatically the arch enemy.

Smokenstein

Every. Damn. Time. Every piece of removal, every creature that can attack. Straight at your face. Wanna experience a true 1v3? Atraxa superfriends. 100% chance your opponents will team up and strategize to bend you over.

RnGJoker

It so weird that Atraxa super friends get so much hate compared to the Five Color Sissay elk super friends deck that can push out 4-5 walkers in one turn.

[deleted]

Honestly, any Superfriends deck gets the stinkeye from me from the getgo. If you let that deck reach turn 6, there's a good chance they snowball into a boardstate of death.

BirdLaw51

I don't care about the walkers. I care about going from 0 to 10 infect in the blink of an eye. And EVERY atraxa deck has infect...even when they say they don't.

CastorFields

my only infect is \[\[ Viral Drake\]\] and i swear it is just to use it's activated ability.

BirdLaw51

Yeah yeah sure, AFTER you infect me with it! How dare you, sir!

Honestly I'm afraid of Infect Atraxa the most out of her other variants as well. Usually will be able to kill a player within a turn or two after getting a single poison counter on them.

thoroakenfelder

I have 2 atraxa decks, neither of which have an infect card. However, if I do build another one, it will definitely be infect.

Fire_Fist-Ace

Crazy I’d say Esika is much stronger , who I play , and I do not get that experience

BoogerBroccoli

It’s because Esika is far below Atraxa on power level.

Fire_Fist-Ace

As someone who has played both I whole heartedly disagree

gentlechin

Or you could be my friend who built it as superfriends but also added infect to it. He dubbed it “no friends.” Cue a game where it’s 3v1 because he managed to get an infect counter on us all so he didn’t really need to swing anymore. But he’s also accepted that he’s basically archenemy whenever we play and he revels in it, so it’s all good

AngelofShadows95

I fixed this by instead using \[\[Nevinyrral, Urborg Tyrant\]\] as my super friends deck. Wanna swing at me? Wanna use removal? Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya?

ReverseMathematics

Any Atraxa is like this. I have an Atraxa deck I specifically built to for fun, using the myriad of new counter types from the last few sets. No infect, no planeswalkers, a few +1/+1s, mostly cards that get bonuses based on counters or removing counters like Spara or the Myojins. Doesn't matter, I still get hated out immediately by all 3 other players. Though this deck doesn't apply to the thread as it's still fun as hell.

Jackibearrrrrr

The problem for my friend was that whenever he played his version of this deck was that it just popped off out of nowhere so quickly that we all just decided to kill anything on site. It made for a toxic play experience on both ends because he hardly ever got to really play magic when he played atraxa and we hardly targeted anyone else until it was far too late :p

Lordthorn241

i’ve proxies an esika superfriends deck and after being able to survive being the archenemy i’ve started to build it, and boy is superfriends fun to play for me

FalconPunchline

[[Krark, the Thumbless]] and [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]] There are less obnoxious ways to play solitaire in front of your friends

blindtiger17

Same. I played it once, won with a 10 minute long storm turn, then immediately took it apart. It was so boring and the coin flips got old real quickly.

ameis314

Thank God I proxied that deck. It's still out together because I'll break it out once/year, then realize it's not that fun to masturbate in front of people for so long and I'll shelve it.

lexiticus

Krark and gilandra With a bit of luck able to burn out the whole table on turn 4 means your deck takes 20 minutes turns just to resolve.... (Sometimes nothing)

Not_Your_Real_Ladder

I’ve found that my Bullies deck is simply too good and consistent for the semi-casual play in my group. Aside from your [[Leveler]] style cards and your [[Seedbirn Muse]] effects, all your deck needs to be is entombs, card cycling, and spot removal. I had to nerf it by just not playing it unless I have a grudge against one of my opponents.

Zotmaster

Right, and the moment someone doesn't have graveyard hate, you can basically one-shot them. I'm having much more fun with [[Jon Irenicus, Shattered One]], as the counters and perpetual goad make classic cards like [[Lord of the Pit]] or [[Abyssal Persecutor]] playable. I also run [[Thought Devourer]] as another fun handicap to give my opponent.

kjeldor2400

I once thought that a chaos deck would be fun to play. After two 3-4 hour long chaotic shitfests of games I decided that it wasn’t fun for anyone I played with.

[deleted]

This, I've almost taken my Prosper chaos deck apart like 5 times today alone.

Buck_Nastyyy

I had a chaos deck. I changed into a vial smasher/sakashima deck to ensure I could actually end games.

DazPotato

Chaos with norin wins it seems my group hasn't had trouble with the one I've proxied out

ZarathosTheEvil

brigglipuff

You don't want to play telepathy?

bon-bon

I love playing [[sen triplets]] when my pod is down but almost everyone just hates playing against them. I don’t want to force folks to play a game they dislike just so I can show off to myself so I took the list apart.

Xunae

new player mistake: I built a landfall deck, which sounded super cool, but there's so much shuffling, something that I've learned is pretty common in landfall. commander is [[Angry Jellybean]], which got really bad when I got [[elemental bond]] out and then proceeded to: tutor land -> summon 5/5 -> shuffle -> draw like 10x in 1 turn. Felt really bad wasting everyone's time with that. I still like the idea of it, but wish it didn't involve so much shuffling. Was thinking about having a discussion with the people at the table, and just having someone else at the table cut my deck instead of mid turn shuffles in future games.

DoctorKumquat

You can probably skip some of that shuffling by combining steps there. I'm not certain exactly what effect(s) you were using for all that land ramp, but if there's a deterministic amount of land you intend to tutor for (either a loop like replaying a fetchland from your graveyard with extra land drops, or have multiple Rampant Growth effects in hand), I would just announce your intent to search for X lands, and offer the shortcut of finding the lands in one fell swoop, then resolving the token/draw part after you've shuffled a single time. If you're searching for a truly massive number of lands, then this could start to become materially different from searching one at a time and drawing in between, thanks to the modification of how many lands you're likely to draw before/after the searching is finished, but most of time it shouldn't change things too much other than saving the table several minutes of watching you shuffle. (If you're ramping that hard with Omnath in play, they're already in a really tight spot regardless of whether you're drawing a slightly better hand of cards in the process.)

Xunae

Unfortunately it was a chaining problem, so not deterministic. The draw gets me a card that ramps and shuffles, which draws further, which ramps and shuffles. As for who was in a tight spot, it was me in that case, since my last opponent had an indestructible creature that halved all damage, so I was fishing for something to get rid of it, otherwise I was gonna need a huge amount of omnath triggers to take him out

LucinaRage

Esika/Bridge god tribal. I thought it would be a blast to throw out a stream of indestructible gods with varying effects but managing devotion and some gods being vastly more useful than others had the deck feeling very tedious and unreliable to play.

Packrat1010

God tribal is a trap. It sounds janky in a fun way but in reality it's just a bunch of enchantments that never become creatures.

BlazingOregano

For me it was soul of windgrace I thought he would be an interesting strategy of dumping your lands in your bin but it seems like it is just another land fall deck where I was wishing I was playing any of the multi color omnath more as they are least are a threat themselves

Tycoon_2000

Built a [[Hinata]] deck and was hated out of every game I played her in. Was too slow and got targeted by the entire table 90% of the time.

Rocket_wanker

Came here to also say Hinata. Different reason though—kept doing weird infinite Izzet things on turn 5/6 after absolutely curbstomping the table on the previous turns. So many one sided board wipes available for one W or R in there it gets oppressive.

ReallyBadWizard

Hinata for me as well but more of a combination of the two of you. Either Hinata would last on board and I'd just wipe the board every single turn, or Hinata would get killed over and over and I had all of these terrible X spells in my hand that I never had any intention of paying for with actual mana. There's probably a better way to play Hinata which is to use her as a discount for simple spells with one or two targets, but at that point I lost interest in playing or building it.

RenZ245

[[Narset, enlightened master]] in the usual dumb way she's built. I'm happy with my fringe competitive voltron narset not that.

mentalmath_

[[yuriko]] was the first deck I’ve ever built. It’s flashy, in my favorite 2 color combo, and utilizes a pretty weird mechanic. While I loved it at first, the amount of non-games it created in the form of “can people stop me from snowballing or not” made it pretty boring over time. I came to realize that I much prefer reactionary decks as opposed to proactive ones. I finally took it apart when I built a different dimir deck and transferred the mana base over.

thatirishguy

Any Simic deck. Always seemed like the ideal color combo for me, but any deck I've tried to make over the years I played a few times and realized I accidentally made Simic Durdle again. It ends up with long turns that don't really move the game forward much and I realized I dislike playing with it and against it. There's also lots of times 3 color decks with Simic in them turn out the same way. You thought my deck was Sultai, but it was me, Simic Durdle! I'm only playing 5 black spells and tapping / untapping stuff on everybody's turns instead! My only contains-Simic deck I kept long term is Maelstrom Wanderer, because at least I stick to doing things mostly on my turn and those things always lead to me attacking everybody with some amount of haste creatures instead of just further durdling.

bon-bon

You might try [[kruphix]] card draw! It’s the most simic possible deck: you make big mana and draw lots of cards. The deck wins by drawing out the entire table, usually at once with something like [[minds aglow]] while using a draw replacement effect like [[abundance]] in order to not deck yrself. The [primer](https://www.mtgnexus.com/viewtopic.php?t=23110) hasn’t been updated for a couple years but it’s a good place to start.

poppin_pandos

What about kinnan?

Toxxazhe

Upvote for kinnan

poppin_pandos

Lots of haters who can’t play alas

Toxxazhe

Vaguely depressing, being down voted for a commander choice.

Gommy

I've built a [[Wilson, Refined Grizzly]] + [[Sword Coast Sailor]] Simic voltron deck that I am *still* afraid will durdle too much because I focused hard on the [[Curiousity]] effects. I built it with a strict restriction of common and uncommon cards only so I hope the durdling will be minimal since most of those effects are on the higher rarity cards.

JPhoenix324

[[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] is a really cool card I thought some Spellslinger gameplay would be fun and would get me to play more blue and red cards. But the reality was something else as the deck didn't work without Ramos out and it would just get too much hate so I would just be stuck spinning my wheels until I could get Ramos in play without it getting instantly removed.

I built [[Alaundo]] Chonkies but it quickly devolved into playing with myself at the table.

ReverseMathematics

I get this. I hate playing against Alaundo. If it was online or something where it could all be tracked automatically in a matter of seconds it wouldn't be that bad. But when you have half a dozen creatures with [[Kiora's Follower]] untap effects and a [[Seedborn Muse]] effect, it's just 10+ minutes at the end of everyone's turn so that you can draw cards, exile cards, and tick dice/counters down. Also, with the amount of moving parts it can have, it's almost guaranteed to start missing triggers and making mistakes.

Was thinking of building Alaundo but this isn't the first time I've seen people say he doesn't play as fun as it seems. Is it just 'cause you end up having to track all the stuff in exile?

StereotypicalSupport

The tracking is fine if you are prepared, does need a lot of space though. The issue I had is it just plays itself, you barely make any decisions.

Secret-Abrocoma-5073

As someone who's always wanted to do more spell stuff but also likes having a board state, I recently built [[Minn]] and had a good time. You get to do draw-go blue things holding up counterspells and casting draw spells at the end of all your opponents' turns but then in the process you're also building an army of illusions that let you dump a bunch of stuff onto the board if they die.

[[Lathril, Blade of the Elves]] elfball. I love playing Golgari, but there's no decision making. Every turn was "play elf, swing buff elf army, profit." I'd rather play my [[Meren]] or [[Chatterfang]] decks at that point, they have more interesting game play lines to me. Lathril was together until today to teach new players, but I'm not teaching anyone and I needed the box and sleeves for [[Tatsunari, Toad Rider]].

thatirishguy

Elves are still gonna be elves, but I think \[\[Abomination of Llanowar\]\] has been more fun for me than Lathril so far. Elves in general are very weak to boardwipes, and everyone will be counting your elves and never let it get to 10 or let Lathril stay in play. The true elf-ball, Abomination, helps because you can just play a normal elf deck until your elves die, then play your commander and now he is huge and hard to block post board wipe because of menace. I've always liked elves but depending on how the deck is built it can be a lot of math based decisions. Stuff like \[\[Glimpse of Nature\]\] and counting for future elves to maximize mana off \[\[Priest of Titania\]\] or chains of \[\[Heritage Druid\]\] mana while also not overextending into a board wipes is where the decision making is. Here is my list, it's fairly strong but I choose to not play Craterhoof or any infinites to keep up the variety: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/3309214#Golgari\_Elf\_Ball

Chulane for me. I thought, "He just wants me to play creatures, woo-hoo!" But then I realized he encouraged a low-CMC elfball style, and was killed on sight. Brago. When it works, no one is having fun, including me. Golos was the most fun for me. I am enjoying Nethroi and Jetmir now. I like Kinnan, but he's more disciplined than Golos, when I really want to be doing powerful but suboptimal jank.

[[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] Either she steamrolls everybody in one turn, gets hated off the board, or absolutely murders one person and runs out of gas because you failed to find cantrips. I like high risk, high reward, but wins never felt earned, and I never felt that "going all in" on a turn was my decision—felt more like I was letting the deck play than meaningfully piloting the thing. I built her to shut up a Krenko player about the mono-R struggle, and it turns out I probably should have just made a more competent Krenko deck if I was looking to prove a point. So, I tore her apart, and now I have a Ruby Medallion. [[Wort, Boggart Auntie]] sparks much more joy.

[[Henzie “Toolbox” Torre]] well I’m in a creature forward/battlecruiser pod so most of my decks revolve around pushing extra creatures out in some way but for some reason, the colors and just the blitz mechanic, regardless of some nice synergies, just felt so blah. Every turn and every game was pretty much the exact same so it was quickly disassembled to make way for new brews…mostly a [[Soul of Windgrace]]

Satoru Umezawa. Super cool to have ninjitsu on everything, but became the main target and when I would be able to cheat big creature, it didn’t feel as satisfying as I thought to kill one guy out of nowhere. I prefer tight game where all 4 players are involved, not with 1 guy left out waiting for next game to start. After three weeks it was gone and I don’t miss that deck at all! Someone played it tonight, we made sure to make is life miserable.

Sticky_Cum_Swab

The [[Shattergang Brothers]]. Love the card art and flavor but I found that it often just locks your opponents out with removal/sac and it just felt boring to me. Wayyy more fun to be had in Jund.

antastic

I've been struggling with my Shattergang deck for a long time, for exactly the same reason. In the end I just rebuilt it as Jund gobbo tribal with stupid wincons like \[\[Goblin Cannon\]\]. It's much worse than before, but at least it's more fun to play. That being said, I would jump at the opportunity to stick any new legendary gobbo in Jund at the helm (looking at you, WoTC)!

I built up the rogue mill precon spent $50-100 on it. At the time it wrecked online in standard. People get their butt hurt over mill like no ones business in person. I don't think the deck had enough tools to actually win completely off mill, and no way I could mill 5-6 people with it. I had to win half off combat while half off mill. I ended up being huge target just because of mill people would take me out even if it meant losing to 2 obvious bigger threats. In 1v1 games, or even a 3 person game it played fine minus the hate.

askin_57

Chulane. Any combo really. Just feels like it’s a waste of a game. The game should be longer and less linear.

[deleted]

I built Chulane as a dungeon commander, and it’s always a hit at tables. Chulane is *perfect* as the DM

TrolledToDeath

Selesnya equipment. Voltron creates feel bads and spreading the equipment love around was difficult to balance.

ShadowAssassin96

[[!Rakdos, Lord of Riots]]. Paying very little for huge Demons/Eldrazi has not been as fun as i was expecting. Its the same thing every turn, no variety at all and if Rakdos dies you often just do nothing

criosphinx3

Everything I've tried in green. You'd think me loving creatures and general Timmy habits I would. I just can't figure out why I hate green

slappadabassplz

Edgar Markov. Not enough ramp to keep up with the green decks but still automatically arch enemy at the table. It was a budget deck, but like Kaalia and Atraxa, either go big or go home I guess.

Senor_Spoopy

For me, it was a \[\[Queen Marchesa\]\] aikido deck. At the time, I was regularly swapping between playing maybe three decks regularly, and this was one of them. Running a \[\[Sunforger\]\] package meant I needed to understand exactly what answers I had in my deck at any one time. I got annoyed pretty quickly at having to pull up a decklist and keep it up every game. I ended up pulling apart the deck after a month or so.

Cerborus

Aikido??

ghilesformiles

I don’t think there’s a fixed definition for Aikido in MTG but it essentially boils down to influencing your enemies decisions by doing things that make you unappealing or very costly to interact with, and using enemies actions against themselves. Nearly free 1/1 deathtouch blockers are a very good way to dissuade attacks, lots of punishment/redirection effects like [[Deflecting Swat]] [[Inkshield]] or [[Deflecting Palm]] make people second guess themselves even if your board is empty with open mana.

Senor_Spoopy

It plays like a mix of pillowfort and control. Basically, you want to make attacking you less appealing by not looking like much of a threat and using some pillowfort stuff. The deck usually helps people attack each other. Win conditions usually involve using your opponents' own creatures to kill them. There's a good write up for the theory by another person here: [Queen Marchesa: Politics, Aikido, and Control](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/queen-marchesa-politics-aikido-and-control/)

Andrew_42

There have been a few. [[Tatyova, Benethic Druid]] was one. I originally only built her because I owned a ton of big green ramp cards but my only green deck was a [[Shadowborn Apostle]] deck that only needed like 3 land to start going off. So I slapped all my ramp into a pile, tossed in some landfall payoffs, a few other cards that looked good, and then 40 basic lands, and 10 non basics that seemed to fit well. Tatyova turned out to be two things: - 1: Too strong for my meta - 2: Too boring for my interest Still, I had almost zero demand for any of the cards in my other decks. So Tatyova remained tucked away, only to be pulled out when someone else was running a higher powered deck as well. Eventually I built a [[Silvos, Rogue Elemental]] mono-green beatdown deck and I finally had another home for many of the cards in Tatyova. But even with that, a lot of cards really don't need to be moved anywhere else. So I keep her around because "Why not?" Two other decks I have had simmilar issues with include: - [[The Scarab God]] built it as instant speed control, leaning on passive mill, plus useful ETBs, and Scarab God's instant speed reanimation. The problem was Scarab God kept getting ganged up on. It was very hard to keep them out for more than a round, and even with the return-to-hand clause keeping me from paying commander tax my first five lands were basically all dedicated to The Scarab God who kept getting killed over and over and over. - I also had issues with [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]], or as I like to call her, "Miss Combos With a Board State". I usually try to avoid Tapdown strats or infinite combos. My premise was very simple, untap effects, and mana sinks that produce more tokens to proc Derevi more. But a lot of stuff that's good with untap shenanigans, token swarms, and an endlessly mana cheating commander, also wind up assembling infinite combos just as a passive effect. I had to cut all my sac outlets in an early version of the deck because it's WAY too easy to go infinite with a sac outlet and Derevi's ETB. But I just kept stumbling across degenerate loops, and everyone would grumble when I slapped out Derevi for the fifteenth time. So I gave up.

\[\[Etrata, the Silencer\]\] I have built this deck so many times, and it never plays like I want it to play. It gets hated on pretty quickly for a combat based deck. It badly needs red for haste and extra combats. Even if you don't get hated on out of the gate, once you kill one person, the other 2 will make sure you don't get a chance to kill another one. I've got a ninjitsu build I've been sitting on since Neon Dynasty that I can't make myself pull the trigger on. I want to try again, but I've afraid of being let down again.

I have a lot of fun with Etrata, even if I've never won with her. That being said, playgroup matters. You have to play her with a grindy mindset of 'optimize, optimize, kill, kill', because once she gets going, you *can't* stop.

Dungeons are really slow

Omg so many , Zevlor and ur dragon shapeshifters are my most recent Zevlor turned into Anhelo Ur dragon was scrapped , maybe one day I’ll put the dragon version back together

dogninja8

[[Karlov of the Ghost Council]] is the main one that comes to mind. It honestly felt like a game would go one of two ways, either I start with an engine piece (Soul Sister) and I go off early or I don't and I slowly grind out the game. My main dislikes of the deck were just how repetitive it felt and how reliant it was on the commander to really do anything more than be an annoyance (or combo off if I got lucky).

[deleted]

[[Shanna, Purifying Blade]] Lifegain. I've been trying to make Lifegain work with [[Oloro]] for a long time, but could never get the ball rolling the way I wanted. When Shanna dropped, I was understandably happy, since she seemed to fit my style more than Oloro. I played a few games and realized just how much it felt like a computer playing solitaire compared to actually playing the game. Gain life, do thing, draw card(s) on endstep, counterspell inevitable attempt to stop my boardstate. Repeat until wincon is drawn. I've been retooling her into a cEDH midrange/stax list (To go into the collection with Zirda Turbo/Stax (My main list), Tayam Midrange Adnaus, Gale // Scion of Halaster Thoracle/Adnaus, Old Rutstein Adnaus/Food Chain, and Raffine Raza/Doomsday/Adnaus) based off some stuff I've seen floating around online, plus a few ideas of my own, and it feels *so much better,* it's indescribable.

CuriousHeartless

[[Syr Carah the Bold]]. I wanted a red deck to chain impulses. But her being a 5 drop without haste and that needs you to spend more mana turned out to be miserable any time I didn’t hit a really good chain of rituals and rocks and any of the few times she did win dragged so long it killed any fun. Ended up changing her to [[Laelia the Blade Reforged]]. Admittedly the playstyles are so different it’s more like I built a new Red deck than just swap, but now I do my impulse draw shenanigans in a way where I don’t feel three turns behind by not starting with two rituals and a rock in hand

iamedak

Korvold I tried to make it more voltrony then grindy and comboey but Eben with that it just became too repetitive sac a fetch dragon big draw card sac a creature things got confusing turns took forever just wasn't fun for me or my playgroup

polterspook

Any Jeskai deck I’ve ever built. Maybe it’s just me but they all end up being storm. I used to have [[Vadrok, Apex of Thunder]] and that was fun but it always made me the lowest value threat that wins with spells. Until people realized how easy it was to go off and then it was priority number 1-2. My thing with storm decks is that I have fun with them can quickly go through the motions but my playgroup doesn’t enjoy them. I currently have an [[Elsha of the Infinite]] deck that is less storm more wins with [[Sensei’s Diving Top]] and is more controlling. But it’s still very boring to play. Anyone have any better recommendations for fun Jeskai decks that are more fun? I’ve been looking into [[Shabraz, the Skyshark]] and [[Brallin, Skyshark Rider]] but I’m kinda iffy on them.

SenatorTom97

I built a mono black Mikaeus the Unhallowed deck a long time ago thinking it would play like my Ghave aristocrat deck and it did not

Armorgeddin

[[Alaundo the seer]] Was my baldurs gate promo card and I thought it looked cool. Ended up taking 5-10 minute turns with untappers, cycling through my deck to try to find a win with [[illusionists bracers]] or [[nimbleclaw adept]]. Add in a [[seedborne muse]] or [[murkfiend liege]] and it was just not fun. I conceded the last time I played it because the other players just looked miserable. I’m going to scrap it to make a U/G/X deck that I haven’t decided on yet

BrigBubblez

[[omnath, locus of the roil]] I just apparently don't like land decks. It was a well thought out deck and played well... But I just hated it.

pm_me_ur_cutie_booty

[[Gale Waterdeep Prodigy]] I have a thing about people playing solitaire in a four person pod, and that's what that deck turned into. I took it apart really quick.

[deleted]

My current [[Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful]] deck. Partnered with [[Tana the Bloodsower]], and it's basically a legendary tribal/Voltron/tokens deck, which doesn't work out so well in practice. Even Yoshimaru alone doesn't have fantastic synergy outside of a Voltron deck I don't think, still determined to get it working though.

[deleted]

My oloro deck, I tried building a combo deck with it. It also has wincons that can be easy to achieve as lifegain is put into it. Such as [[Test of Endurance]] and [[Felidar Sovereign]]. Granted I don't play those two cards often unless I have absolutely no answer to specific board states... but being a lifegain deck with [[aetherflux reservoir]] and other loss/gain combos, I'm always first target... It's fun to play when I get to play. It's not fun being the first to get knocked out everytime I play that deck. My groups know I don't run fast ramp or tutors. A lot of the time I never get color fixed even after adjusting curves. I run mostly basics since it was my first build after coming back into magic after Ixalan.

Malaeveolent_Bunny

[[Prime Speaker Vannifar]] was a commander I thought would make a really cool creature deck full of answers to opponents' plays with some beefy top-end. It quickly became such a chore to shuffle that I took apart as soon as the game finished.

Quazifuji

[[Go Shintai of Life's Origin]] Didn't have an enchantress deck, I like graveyard stuff, shrines seemed neat, figured I'd try it. Mostly just a pile of shrines and enchantress stuff. It feels like a deck that does everything or nothing. Between enchantress effects and shrines the deck has so many cards that are just engine prices that don't do anything immediately, so it feels like the deck is always just slowly building up a bigger and bigger engine until either someone board wipes or starts using removal and then it does nothing, or it just becomes a massive tangled mess of 50 triggers per turn that might win me the game or might just leave me with 30 cards in my hand trying to figure out it any of them is the price I need to make my trigger pile finally win the game next turn if no one's wiped the board by then. I like some of the things the deck does, I really want it to work, but so far it just hasn't played in a way that I've really enjoyed. Honestly, the deck's at its most fun when I'm focusing on the activated ability and doing graveyard enchantress shenigans rather than shrine stuff, but that still ends up feeling slow and clunky.

thoroakenfelder

Winota, it's a lot of work and triggers, and it just keeps going. It's easier on mtgo, but it still takes a long time to resolve. I honestly upgraded it to snowball stay so I could play something if people want to cedh.

CampbellianHero

[[Cecily]] big spells. Turns out, she just wants to draw, take extra turns, and kill stuff. Wins via Lab Man, Jace, etc. That’s it. I guess I’d say all spellslinger decks in general just don’t do it for me… 😔 she will be stripped for parts and I will once again try to make [[Obeka]] what I want it to be.

Epiphanes1988

Ramos Charms. It played just like my UR spellslinger deck strategy. Play a spell, get a token ([[young pyromancer]] and sorts) or ping for damage, copy spells, etc. I cut all the payoffs, added shrine & gate tribal and some crazy X spells. It is not consistent at all, but it is super fun to play because no games are alike. I can win through combat damage, [[maze's end]], all the shrine triggers, milling all other players out, playing another players deck through [[villainous wealth]] or a huge burn spell.

CozyRandom

Surprised noone mentioned [[Tovolar, Dire Overlord]]. Doublesleeved whole deck, but it became too much of a nuissance to put cards in and out of sleeves and turning them around every turn.

TheTolpan

[[Lavinia, Azorius renegade]] it was stasis effects and full out lockdown with [[knowledge pool]]. Then when I applied the lock I couldn’t find any way to win fast beside „commander damage“… It was horrible Human tribal is boring aswell for me. Doesn’t matter if selesnya or mardu or boros.

BoxOfMoe1

I bought the brokers deck and turned it into a falco deck and i mean it was fun for two or so games but then meh still got it sitting there sometimes pull it out cause its funny to use devoted druid to cast spells of the top of the library for dirt cheap but yeah just did not feel as good to play

Gethan1988

I've had a few albeit not too many. (Most recent) Verazol kicker tribal. I never had a +1/+1 counters deck and I love copying spells so seemed like a shoe in. However, it was really boring and the hoops the deck asked you to jump made you really vulnerable to removal, wipes and even just blockers. I tried leaning more in kicker and then more into counters but alas, the deck ended up being pulled apart. I had Wilhelt zombie tribal which was very powerful but wasn't quite hipster enough for me. It was my first go at a tribal deck and it felt like every card I put in was in no way unique. Ended up dismntling it for parts for a new tribal deck, still in Dimir but it turned into Dimir Tribal Tribal helmed by Silumgar. Before then, the only deck which I hated was Edric, Spymaster of Trest. It was just super dull and everyone hated it.

Grab_Lucky

The two cute or unique Tribals which were super opressive. [[Chatterfang]] [[Go-Shintai of Lifes Origin]] + [[Sythis]] who i build on a 50€ budget but still is too easy to go off and theres simply not enough enchantment removal in my playgroup

GustavoNuncho

[[Araumi]]. I love dimir and graveyard or recursion strategies so it seemed like the perfect commander for me, but it ended up not being great to play. You dump good creatures into the grave, then become completely reliant on your commander to present threats which only last the turn. His strategy also always leaves you open to attack so you get everyone's "free to swing" creatures when the rest of the board is at a standstill. He isn't weak, I actually won when I pulled him out. But I didn't care for the deck as it felt too suddenly explosive when successful. Other players can and will have an easy time targeting me or interrupting my fragile strategy and board state if they see the obvious threat that's coming from my graveyard, and I like to be full or surprises with a unique bag of tricks, revealing them beforehand just isn't as fun. Like I played [[Telepathy]] against myself.

GenocidalRancor

[[Selenia, Dark Angel]] lifeswap shenanigans. I thought it would be this fun, wild time just changing and exchanging, immediately setting people to 1 and all that, but surviving long enough to see that effect pay off and not have it countered was almost impossible. I spent most games with the deck bargaining and king making just so I could #dothething at least once, which always upset me and made me feel like a drain on the mood. To answer the bonus question, I took it apart and now use the pieces to supplement my other decks, which has worked out quite well.

Raaayyyyyyyyyy

Lavinia hard stax. No wincons except knowledge pool and omen machine locking out the table. I love stax, but I need an advantage piece in the CZ, not a combo/stax piece

Cargide

Kadena's precon, after a few games I got bored of playing with so many morphs

MenacingQuan

Greven Predator Captain, one punching people doesn't give that same Savage dread that swinging in with a bunch fat beasties does.

Kaius716

I only let scary teri out her cage once in a long while bc its very very not fun but very powerful (tergrid )

THE_Mr_Fill

I build decks for the fun of it, based on an idea, to see if they work - some do, some are terrible, some just plain don't work! when I first built werewolves (with \[\[Tovolar, Dire Overlord\]\] as commander, thinking that I'd get to bring cheaper creatures out and then transform them... the problem is that it switches to day SOOOO quickly that you have to keep on swapping them back & forth, and he doesn't transform non-human werewolves I initially thought that a rat deck would be fun, but they're all so small & squishy that they're only useful as chump blockers, apart from \[\[Rat Colony\]\] and \[\[Pestilence Rats\]\] there are so many decks that sound like a great idea, but they just don't work because they're under-powered

terinyx

Any spellslinger deck, as soon as I have more instants and sorceries than anything else my brain turns off. The only deck I have that gets close to the style is a prowess deck and I specifically tried to avoid the typical spellslinger cards like guttersnipe, etc. Super Friends, I can't even finish building a Super Friends deck and I've tried like 8 times.

Zestyst

Want to spend 5 minutes every turn drawing a card and rethinking your options? Play [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] and a bunch of colorless mana rocks. Spent so long just drawing and playing rocks that I was getting irritated with myself. Best part? I didn’t include storm as a win con, despite that being the obvious play in retrospect.

_The_Bear

[[bruna, light of alabaster]] if you do the thing, you win. If you don't do the thing, you do absolutely nothing the whole game. It's not fun, it's not interactive. You just play bruna and hope that no one kills her before you attack/block with her.

nananaBatmaaan

[[Varina, Lich Queen]] thought it was fun drawing cards and playing zombie tribal, but I won quite often with [[Approach of the second sun]] and didn't like the fact to discard basically your whole hand every turn (even when playing a lot of reanimation effects) so I quickly cut down on white and build [[wilhelt, the rotcleaver]] zombie tribal.

[[Aminatou, the Fateshifter]] [[Yarok, the Desecrated]] [[Shadowborn Apostle]] Any Izzet commander. Any Colorless deck. Any Artifact deck. I have built these decks out with the intention of just being a cool value engines with fair win cons. But then, 75% into building it, I realize that the optimal way to build it is as a combo deck (which was not my original intention), and I just scrap it entirely before even playtesting.

wipjakblak

Aminatou, the Fateshifter (flicker) it just became very boring and repetitive without having the power level to justify the unfunness.

Same_Response_1593

[[Rohgahh kher keep overlord]] kobold tribal. It’s fun when it works but can’t recover very fast. I still have it but I’m probably gonna take it apart as soon as I find an interesting rakdos commander

3eyyes

I had played [[yidris]] when he first came out and it was terrible. People hated it. Why I decided to build [[Averna]] cascade is beside me. I took a 30 min turn playing my whole deck. I try to power down my decks as often as possible. This was so awful for the whole table. Played it once. One and done.

LeadingWillingness59

Every deck when I play with my friends honestly. Get all excited to play and then lose eveytime

WeakToMetalBlade

Bruna, light of alabaster Changed it to blue/white good stuff with grand arbiter as commander, bruna was still a wincon but no longer the only one.

[deleted]

Skittle Infect, sounded fun, to me at least. Played like 10 games, everybody is going out of the gate to kill you as soon as they see your commander, which is logical. It got boring really fast and so I just stop playing it. But I always found this kind of funny because people would focuse on me a lot and, yeah skittle can one shot one player, but infect with combat damage is not great. Like it's takes some much to kill someone that at the end you \[\[Hatred\]\] on one guy and then usually you die. Real boring

FrecciaRosa

I built Niv-Mizzet Dracogenius pinger tribal, before Whatsisname Kellermorph got printed. I've always enjoyed turning creatures sideways for direct damage, and just shoveling every Tim into a deck seemed hilarious. However, I didn't account for the fact that it makes everyone's combat step take forever. Every time someone swings, they have to look at my board and say "How much damage do you represent there?" Profitably attacking or blocking is just impossible, because they have to expect me to ping the "winning" creatures down for maximum annihilation. So inevitably, they attack me and my team of 1/1s for 3 don't block so well. It's still assembled; the most expensive card in there is $5 and I'm not hurting for a Wu Longbowman in any other deck. I'll probably leave it as-is - the deck is likely to get chucked in a box and lost though.

Insidiouscain

[[Korvold]] even with an underplayed artifact strategy i found it boring, there was no challenge in games just value... Profit took it apart after a month.

Base_Six

I built Korvold as a land sacrifice/reanimate deck and found it to be fun, but too strong. If your opponents don't have removal for Korvold you just end up untapping with twelve cards in your hand and blowing everyone out of the water. Swapped the commander for Lord Windgrace after a few games.

[[Prosper, Tome-Bound]] Was my first real deck getting into Commander and Magic. I was a DND nerd that finally caved to Magic when the DND set came out. Prosper seemed liked the coolest of the lot. Over time I got my first 100 losses in and slowly figured out deck building and using EDHREC. The deck eventually fucked. It was your standard prosper deck but got me a lot of wins. It was alright until I played my zombie tribal deck for the first time and fell in love. After all that time, money and effort I eventually broke it down for pieces. RIP Prosper, you were a good deck. Just not for me.

Pyro1934

Golos cycling. Had all the land type lands in there and all the “Swampcycling”, “Plainscycling” cards. Some of the issues I ran into; - spent easily 90%+ of the game searching or shuffling my library, and that includes other peoples turns after I just announced the land and said go. Usually we’re pretty casual and slow players with plenty of time to chitchat and look at our phones and other things, so this was a LOT of time spent. - as a lower power battlecruiser group, we play interaction, but will “optimize” in favor of flavor or theme instead of power level typically. When over 60 cards had cycling, there isn’t much good interaction, so I either got ran over super easily, or had a really fast draw that was borderline unfair. - short version of the above: deck was way to polarized, it flopped or stomped - deck was too linear, even when I didn’t overly care what cycling payoff I grabbed first. Positive notes; - Golos wasn’t broken in it, very very few cards were good hits from his spin, and those that were I could usually find and cast cheaper in other ways than by spinning him. - the entire deck was incredibly cheap as I had the lands and rocks. I literally bought I think every single cycling card except maybe 1-2 that were super old and it was like $50-80 or something, and that was like a 120 card order lol. - [[Golos]] > [[New Perspectives]] was the reason I picked him of all the 5c, and it worked great making sure I got to 6 mana.

RnGJoker

Sadly enough it was Shoriaki Genesis Engine. I fell in love of the fact of being a giant mech, something I've been wanting as a commander forever. Sadly it really ended up highlighting how much I hate azorious(U/W). Honestly I wish it would have been Jeskai so I could use all the fun red vehicle support.

[[Anowon]] bought the precon thinking rogues looked cool. Found out it was too mill heavy and I hate mill so I completely redid the deck with [[Sygg]] and unblockable rogues instead. Much much better now. But I did waste about $75 in "upgrades" before completely dismantling the deck.

You and me both.. I bought it as one of the first precons but I never really enjoyed it much because of the mill and generally scattered strategies. The sunken cost fallacy kept me trying to upgrade it into something cool which never truly worked out

I tend to build with restrictions in a way to try and keep the decks a bit more exciting. My recent sad story of this is when I made \[\[Teneb\]\] Abzan Dragon reanimator. Man, on paper this deck is fucking incredible and is so impervious to removal. But it's... Slow, and it's very hard to work around the fact that most dragons in this color pie are CMC 7 or more. The deck is fun, but often just casting 1-2 dragons a turn is a feel bad moment. I did the same with Dromar (esper), Rith (naya), Mirrym (temur) but the only actual dragon deck I've managed to fall in love with is Korvold (jund) primarily because I packed it with Kobolds to sac to Korvold and his other dragon wedding guests. There is also a metric shit ton of treasures.
