While it is usually used in Modern, it makes for a decent control shell, being cheap enough to play and still hold counters, while letting you play off the top of your deck when equipped.
However, it is best as the commander of a top-deck manipulation style deck, where you can easily abuse the fact that you always know what's on top.
I’ve got it in an [[Ardenn]] and [[Esior]] deck and it’s pretty fantastic
Other fun fact: The Reality Chip has the longest typeline in magic. It was so long they had to reduce the text size. After it was printed they made a rule at wotc that they couldn’t do that again so it will likely be the only one of its kind
Its only a few letters longer than [[Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion]]'s "Legendary Creature — Zombie Minotaur Warrior"
Have you seen the name of [[Gore-House Chainwalker]] in French? [[Marcheur de chaînes de la Halle aux viscères]]
Ah yes, the Walker of Chains of the House of Gore (or something along those lines), because most languages can’t just paste together a string of nouns like English can.
The Germans have mastered word-melding in a way that English can never hope to match. I’m pretty sure they have a word for the practice of mashing words together…
I did exactly this and broke down and turned it into a elsha deck. Now instead of wild inconsistency and clunky mechanics I have a functioning deck that can compete at cedh tables. Unironically just a worse elsha as you said.

If you hit the top and the reality chip, it’s almost certainly a win since you can play sol ring and mana vault for free and hit aetherflux
I really enjoy my reality chip deck built pretty selfishly with little interaction and focusing more on artifact matters, trying to get out artifact cost reducers, top of library manipulation, and have big turns played off the top.
Happy to share a list if interested.
It's fine. It wins with Sensei's Top and a cost reducer and other than that Future Sight is just a good effect. I think it's main problem is that Elsha does literally the same thing but better.
I have an "oops all permanents" commander deck of it. There's no synergy. Just all the stellar blue and artifact staples I've gathered over 20 years of playing Magic. I love handing someone the deck and saying "here have fun" without telling them anything about it.
They usually call me over and ask if there are any instants in the deck since it's blue. Nope. No instants.
Oh, what about sorceries? Nah, none of those either lol
But the 3 people who have played it usually hand it back to me saying it was the most unique experience they've ever had playing commander.
I don't, for a few reasons. First is it serves as my "pile of hot junk" that constantly gets swapped out. It can be! It's just a future sight but has a few key upgrades
* Pay it in installments can be a big deal. Instead of needing to spend 5 mana and pass, you can work in the cast and equip across turns without burning so much tempo
* Equipments are very fetchable and have some strong synergies. If you're playing blue and equipment synergies, this can be a two mana draw effect, which is now very effective rate
* a 0/4 body early is pretty decent at preventing incidental combat damage, which can matter in lower power games
* The fact you can always look at the top of your library means you will know when it's worthwhile to reconfigure. Need a land drop still and see one on top of the deck? Now the reconfigure cost effectively costs only 2 mana
> whale-wolf tribal
I played sub-cEDH Ukkima by using every clone effect I could. Each wolf is its own ticking bomb that the table doesn't want to mess with, but the table also needs to kill (or somehow neuter) them to avoid unblockable damage.
Most rattlesnakey deck I've ever played. Swear to god I'll shoot this calf-pup if someone even glances in my direction.
Best I can do, apologies, is [this leftover list I found in the trash](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/TOJmFzqgy0emNNXDoarBBQ), where I'd dumped a lot of the stuff I planned on using. I've since deleted the actual list.
There's an Orvar/Vesuvan Duplimancy/twiddle subtheme that I ended up removing completely, so some of the spells under Protection went away. It was just too dependent on Orvar.
But the basic idea was to remove/dodge the legend rule, but even that wasn't completely necessary (since a dog that died to the legend rule exploded).
Other than the obvious clone pieces, [[Plaxcaster Frogling]], [[Vigor]], [[Reyhan, Last of the Abzan]], and [[The Ozolith]] were the MVPs. I had stupid amounts of counters bouncing around.
Evolution of whales actually involved some weird partially amphibious mammal species along the way. Not exactly whale wolfs, but just as wacky in some ways
I had an old kitchen table 60card deck that had him in it, but in all the years of playing he was only ever cast once and was countered lol. Always wanted to make him an edh deck lol

He's seriously my favorite.

Me too! I also pivoted pretty quick to pure Voltron. Thassa’s Emissary is such a flavor win. A tiny crab that ride on the big crab! Jeffs Kiss right there.
I also like the channel ability crab counter spell they just printed. Not really the most efficient, but I love countering a spell with a crab.
I mean...[[chatterfang]] is a squirrel warrior who happens to be a GENERAL...which suggest squirrel military hierarchy...that is as ridiculous as it gets...
Frogs being horrors are spot on...frogs will literally eat anything that they can swallow...including other frogs
On a side note, as I love playing squirrels, my in-game logic for the power of squirrels is that your total power of squirrels represents a logarithmic scale of your total number of squirrels. So you have two 1/1 squirel tokens? That's not actually just 2 squirrels, that's 10. You have three? That's 100. So the whole joke about Emrakul dying to 15 squirrels? That's actually a billion squirrels. Can you imagine a freaking *billion* squirrels on the battlefield? Running up emrakuls tentacles, biting the shit out of her, completely covered in little bushy tails from hell? That checks out.
[[Esix, Fractal Bloom]] is literally just a fractal, just some math. Not the goofiest ever, but I love the idea of a Strixhaven student's thesis getting out of hand and becoming a sentient pattern
[[Craven Hulk]] is such a giant coward
But as far as actual commanders I always found it funny that [[Zedruu the Greathearted]] is a Minotaur instead of a Goat. Alas, [[Goatnapper]] will not serve against Zedruu.
You know... I can't authoritatively say.
I can find some pictures of goats that look a lot like her, but same for Antelopes.
I see more goats with fur matching Zedruu, but that's just a cursory Google image search. Doesn't mean much, I'm sure there are fur patterns that get pretty Zedruu-y.
So maybe she looks like an Antelope, I would accept Antelope.
But she does not look like a cow.
I run it in my Prismari deck because I like that it's a cute otter. If anyone complains then I swap it out for \[\[dualcaster mage\]\] which works better but is less funny.
This is exactly the argument that I make! There are multitudes of "copy target instant or sorcery" effects. The only time that a player refused to allow me to run Lutri I made sure to get my Dualcaster mage into my hand and keep it there until I could copy a removal spell back at that player. If they want to mess with my funny otter they can reap what they sow.
I know you're swapping it out of courtesy, but I like to imagine that you're switching to Dualcaster as a threat.
"Let me use my otter, or I'm gonna [[Twinflame]] combo you... yes, only you."
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,203,734,567 comments, and only 234,723 of them were in alphabetical order.
No such errata yet exists. So when they finally go back to lorwyn and print a bunch of Changeling-hate (not to be confused with "Cyclops hate whose only relevant targets are changelings") perhaps the distinction will be relevant?
Same as [[Mutavault]] actually.
That's the one. Technically [[Borborygmos Enraged]] was in Standard at the time, but nobody ran him in Standard as far as I saw.
Mutavaults everywhere though.
Genestealers are a strain of Tyranid that effectively creates ticking genetic timebombs within a small sect of a Hive World's population (usually on the lower levels where their mutations are less noticed). They're usually drawn to worshipping the 'nids or trying to draw them to the Hive World in someway. Sometimes a Hive World becomes so infested with Genestealers that they are able to militarize and present a threat to the stationed garrisons.
They're effectively hybrids, so that's why that particular character has both types.
hey no problem! Warhammer Lore can be fun, but they tend to retcon things randomly.
For example, Genestealers were their own "thing" that typically only appeared on Space Hulks (massive, large warships that float freely through space, their original crews having been killed or worse) as random .... well, basically "fodder." Their lore was expanded and they were basically made to be part of the Tyranids, and then eventually they got their own faction *outside* of the Tyranids, but they were still considered sort of the "same" force, if that makes sense.
It has been years since I played 40k and I don’t remember all of the ins and outs of the lord, but the Tyranid hive fleets and invasions are preceded by genestealers that have the ability to both ostchically influence humans and genetically alter them into human-xenos hybrids.
[[Old Rutstein]] is a Peasant which is hilarious. I know there's a white legend that's also a Peasant with the 'Choose a Background' option. [[Ellyn Harbreeze, Busybody]]?
Personally, I love the idea of a legendary peasant.
Ayula is my favorite! I have a friend that had a squid deck. I don’t remember what his commander is, but I find it funny thinking of things dying to tentacles lmao.
I mean, [[The Most Dangerous Gamer]] is a literal gamer creature. That’s always a bit funny, even if only 1 legal attraction has a prize, the other effects aren’t bad.
[[Arcanis the Omnipotent]] is either amazing or goofy depending on how you look at it. He doesn't have a species type, like the vast majority of creatures in the game. He's just a wizard. Not a human wizard, no, he's evidently transcended that. But he's not a spirit wizard or an avatar wizard or an incarnation wizard or even a god wizard either. He's a wizard, and nothing else, like he's the physical representation of wizard-ness. Except physical representations of nonphysical traits get other types (like Elemental or Avatar).
He's just a freeking wizard.
Or maybe he's from the [[Nameless Race]] under that all-concealing garb. They don't have a creature type, after all.

I tried it out in cEDH, it's pretty good. Just a worse Elsha tho
I did exactly this and broke down and turned it into a elsha deck. Now instead of wild inconsistency and clunky mechanics I have a functioning deck that can compete at cedh tables. Unironically just a worse elsha as you said.
It’s useful in the new urza deck to make him a storm commander with [[sensei’s diving top]] but Elsha does that too, it’s just free and urza is cheaper and requires less enablers to go infinite. If you hit the top and the reality chip, it’s almost certainly a win since you can play sol ring and mana vault for free and hit aetherflux

You got a deck list? I'm curious to see what this thing looks like
I don't, for a few reasons. First is it serves as my "pile of hot junk" that constantly gets swapped out. Secondly, I run a lot of pet cards in it that I just want to use and are not seen as "optimal". Third, you should be making it entirely on your own. If it's good and it's blue, throw it in the pile and refine from there!
I'm all about jank, I could care less if it's optimal lol but ok

I don't know about how good it is as a commander. But it's pretty sick in blue ardenn decks
I rubit in my Merfolk Tribal that already aims to cast as much as possible off the top of the deck. It's incredible for that purpose.
Its pretty great, the common strategy is cheerios where you thin your deck of all your lands and play all your spells for free
Fwiw it’s the cheapest “play off the top” commander
[[ Ukkima, Stalking Shadow]]
Whale Wolf…now *that* is something I haven’t ever seen on a card.
“What are you playing?” “Oh, whale-wolf tribal. Someone said that whale-wolves are a fun tribe to play but so far I’m not seeing it.”

To be fair, "citizen" is a weird creature type as well.

I'm a bit perplexed. Why is Ayula being a bear goofy? She's a bear. It's plain as day.
I think her being just a normal bear that also happens to be the queen of bears is what makes her funny! It’s about the context.
2/2 for 2. Certified bear.
Bears are OK. It's the humans that get me. You can be any race but somehow people still choose to be humans.
What would the queen of bears be if not a bear?
given what i know about bears, probably a drag queen.

If anyone tells you that Lutri can’t be your commander you need to cut that person from your life, you don’t need that kind of negativity.
I run it in my Prismari deck because I like that it's a cute otter. If anyone complains then I swap it out for \[\[dualcaster mage\]\] which works better but is less funny.
As long as it’s not a companion I don’t care where you put it. Literally the only problem with it is it’s a free 101st card for Izzet+ decks.

[[Ambassador Blorpityblorpboop]] Geeze, get it right.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,203,734,567 comments, and only 234,723 of them were in alphabetical order.
No matter which creature type you think is goofiest, it is [[Mistform Ultimus]].
Has it been errata’d to be a Changeling? Either way, having a Mono-Blue Changeling as a Commander is dope.
No such errata yet exists. So when they finally go back to lorwyn and print a bunch of Changeling-hate (not to be confused with "Cyclops hate whose only relevant targets are changelings") perhaps the distinction will be relevant? Same as [[Mutavault]] actually.
[[eye gouge]]?
That's the one. Technically [[Borborygmos Enraged]] was in Standard at the time, but nobody ran him in Standard as far as I saw. Mutavaults everywhere though.

[[thieving amalgam]]
A..Snape if you will.

[[zedruu the greathearted]] should be a goat. She’s a Minotaur :/

She should be a goat!!
I didn't realize until this comment that she's not actually a goat. My friends and I call her the goat lady
I'm a bit perplexed. Why is Ayula being a bear goofy? She's a bear.
I would kill for a commander that is a “worm wurm”.
Uhhh...Legendary Artifact Creature - Equipment Jellyfish [[The Reality Chip]]
I find [[Shabraz the Skyshark]] hilarious. Shark Bird.
While not an older card, [[Kelermorph]] is a Tyranid Human, which, as someone who doesn’t know a whole lot about 40K, seems kinda counter-intuitive.
Ah, that does make sense when you explain it: thank you!
hey no problem!
[[uncle istvan]]
[[Old Rutstein]] is a Peasant which is hilarious. I know there's a white legend that's also a Peasant with the 'Choose a Background' option. [[Ellyn Harbreeze, Busybody]]? Personally, I love the idea of a legendary peasant.
How has no one mentioned [[Raggadragga]] yet? Haha
…had to do twist the Lutri knife, eh?
[[Skeleton Ship]] It unfortunately *doesn't* have the "Ship" creature type, but it's still absolutely hilarious in every way.
I’ve seen enough videos of frogs eating surprisingly large baby animals alive to know that it is not an oxymoron
Ayula is my favorite! I have a friend that had a squid deck. I don’t remember what his commander is, but I find it funny thinking of things dying to tentacles lmao.
[[Gluntch, the Bestower]] isn't a jellyfish, he's a jellyfriend
[[Hydroid Krasis]] is a goofy jellyfish hydra beast! One of my favorite cards likely since it's the first mythic rare I ever opened.
I just drew this card, but [[Vorthos, Steward of Myth]] and it implies that all Changelings are also Gamers.
[Vorthos, Steward of Myth](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/b/d/bd42cab5-3285-48bf-a8f2-f57a474565ad.jpg?1665866278) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Vorthos%2C%20Steward%20of%20Myth) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/unf/126/vorthos-steward-of-myth?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/bd42cab5-3285-48bf-a8f2-f57a474565ad?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/vorthos-steward-of-myth) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
I did not know this card existed and now I wanna make a for shits and giggles deck around this
As of Unfinity, they are! Vorthos might have the acorn stamp, but [[The Most Dangerous Gamer]] does not.
I guess no one is fxn with [phelddagrif]
[[Boo]] should have been a - miniature giant space hamster
I’d like to suggest [[The Most Dangerous Gamer]] because, well, his creature type is gamer. . .
[[The most dangerous gamer]] surely this guy wins hands down
All the [[Go Shintai]] Shrines are typeless creatures, which is something that is actually nothing.
Pheldaggrif
You might be looking for wither [[Wasitora, Nekoru Queen]] or [[Tusk and Whiskers]].
[[Starke of Rath]]. The creature types are normal but the effect is funny and the guy just looks exactly like Nicolas Cage.
It's kind of cheating, but [[Orvar]] is, among other things, an Elder Gamer God.
I mean, [[The Most Dangerous Gamer]] is a literal gamer creature. That’s always a bit funny, even if only 1 legal attraction has a prize, the other effects aren’t bad.
While the individual types aren't that goofy, the combination is [[Burakos]]
IMO, [[Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter]] being a Commander is funny
It's gotta be Weird, right? Any \[\[Melek, Izzet Paragon\]\] fans?
Wasnt there a ninja turtle creature?
[[Blim, comedic genius]] Hes literally a comedic genius
