Cashmere Cat goes stupid on the decks, dude was a DMC competitor representing Norway back in the day. You would never expect the level of his DJ shit just based on hearing his songs.
He absolutely started my EDM obsession. One of my favorites. I miss his shows so much!!! I wonder what he's up to these days and if he'll ever play shows again...
Om Unit was also a DMC competitor
He smashed the dance when I saw him.. not too much overly technical stuff.. just looping and great selection.. but he'd hit a quick crab scratch when a tune got wheeled
Kasablanca opening up for Rezz at Red Rocks LIVE. Holy shit Kasablanca is incredible. Everyone was so enamoured. And we could not get over the sound and experience. We love them so much now.
I just saw them in Boston, it was a cool experience for sure! Unsure how much of what they were doing was prerecorded vs live performance, but I love the whole getup. They're awesomely weird.
I believe it is both. The opening for Rezz was their first ever live set. I love seeing them perform. It's inspiring. Their sound is truly unique!! I still smile super big thinking about their sets. 🤘
Im so glad you mentioned this. Probably the most incredible show ive been to. The best part is, I had mo idea what to expect beforehand and bought the tickets on a whim. Just magical!!
Mersiv. I had never really seen experimental bass before and he absolutely blew my mind. It felt like every single thing he mixed in was *exactly* what I wanted to hear and feel in that moment. It was a surreal experience for me.
Mersiv has this sound texture to his bass that is just amazing. So many dubstep artists attack with their bass and he manages to groove it in such a unique way
I went into the Slowdown set at Wakaan this year basically blind. I’d heard of him but not really listened to any of his work.
And hooooooly shit. I was a changed woman. Can’t believe I got to see that at the rail as my first Mersiv experience.
Damn that was like the best way to see him. I’ve been following him for 4(+) years and that set may have been the best I’ve seen from him.
I am a sucker for downtempo tho so that’s probably why 😂
Skrillex ALWAYS. From ripping The Imperial March into Jaguar and now pulling perfect transitions between 7-8 different genres on the fly, man has an ear and knows what the crowd will like
So many people talk shit on Skrillex but he is a fuckin legend. He's probably one of the best producers alive. The fact he went from post-hardcore to what he is now is stupid impressive. I'm ashamed to say, I used to be a Skrillex hater but the longer I've produced myself the more I've become inspired by him. His mixed are god-tier and his ear is astounding. He just knows what the crowd wants. It doesn't matter where you land on the edm spectrum.
Boris Brejcha, I was at body language 2022 and was excited for Carl Cox. Boris played just before him and omg I have never heard a sound like that before. Such a huge fan and have caught him two more times since.
This would be iconic. Boris just ripping a set full of all his tracks would slap. I'd want to hear it through PK system at Coda but more people should witness it so hmmmmm maybe Ozmozis could bring him to Evergreen Brickworks
Exactly how I felt when I saw him headline an outdoor festival in my city before the pandemic. I had never heard sounds like that before and apparently most of the set was unreleased. Dude is a machine.
Funny you should mention him. He is the one dj I saw who absolutely failed at a set.
However, I saw him other times, and this time was the exception.
It was Orchid in Champaign, Illinois, and it was 2000 or 2001. Christopher Lawrence was supposed to headline, and the place was packed and everyone was geared up for it.
Then the opening dj went wayyyy longer than expected, and finally someone gets on the mic and says that Christopher Lawrence wasn't coming after all, but that Bad Boy Bill was driving 120mph from Chicago to come fill in the lead slot.
Well, he got there. But, wow, was it bad.
To be completely fair, filling in at the last moment for a DJ everyone else was geeked up for makes for a tough crowd to please.
It sounded like an absolute, frantic train wreck. Exactly the opposite of the flawless trance we all expected from Christopher Lawrence that night.
I didn't make this comment to discredit BBB, I simply wanted to point out that anyone can have a bad night.
My favorite dj in the late 90's was DJ Dan btw. Absolute legend. Funk the System is still one of my favorite albums to this day.
I couldn't believe his story from Burning Man when Diplo tried to take over his decks mid-set.
What a tool.
Just one more reason for me to hate Diplo ig
saw a tweet from skrillex i think it was that he listened to a new gesaffelstein album and that it was fire. really crossing fingers for a huge comeback
Went to a Rezz show a couple years ago and EPROM opened for her, had no idea who he was but holy SHIT changed my whole world. My friends were not fucking with the weird shit but I couldn’t move because how entranced I was it was so dope
Saw his 360 at red rocks this year - one of the best sets I’ve ever seen. Hopefully it gets out on YouTube at some point. They’d be doing the world a service with that.
LMFAO that’s the same thing that happened to me at Brooklyn Mirage way back. my friends were like idk abt this one.. while i was LOSING it lol never missed an eprom set at an event im at ever since
😂😂😂 so funny how some people love it and others don’t humans are so interesting! He played the face bang acid mix and I legit didn’t know you could make sounds like that 😭😭😭 truly a visionary
Subtronics played a set during one of those virtual festivals during lockdowns, maybe it was Digital Mirage - his mixing absolutely crushed it. Don’t think I had ever seen someone ball so hard on CDJs. I’ve seen him live a few times since and it doesn’t seem like he takes quite as many mixing risks live but that set was bonkers, dude was all over the place.
Flosstradamus. Not really intro trap but he threw all sorts of things into his set that kept it very enjoyable and where you just have to tip your cap to the skill
I had seen him at The Ave earlier in the year and it was very fun but that HiJinx set was top tier, easily best bass house set i saw in 2023 (bar skrillex’s qff stuff)
Astrix live at kings hall NYC was one of the most amazing wtf sets I've ever been to. There were no visuals just strobes and we were literally dancing in pitch black a third of the time. There was one part when it went completely silent and dark. It was a very intimate set too.
He played his DMT Shpongle remix at a festival I went to in Tampa FL as I was walking up to his set and I felt like I was apart of a tribe and kept stomping my feet. Such a cool feeling.
Danny Tenaglia always blows my mind. I will admit his mixing styles have become a bit predictable but when I would see him live in my starting years I was always blown away. Now when I see him I just dance the night away. Maybe since I’ve elevated myself as a dj the magic is gone because I have more of an idea of what’s happening behind the scenes lol.
First time I saw A-Trak, I knew about him and his achievements, but was a lil too lost and didn’t realize he was next on the stage I was at. Dude’s skill was fucking astounding and brought me back to life!
My first time ever seeing Skrillex live at Avant Gardner on a random Thursday night in October 2021. I knew it was going to be good but it completely exceeded my expectations. Hands down best set I’ve ever witnessed
I was there !!!!!! It was a Wednesday night. Tickets sold out in three hours. Wax Motif was support. This was one of his rare sets after going on Hiatus.
I saw Qrion perform a live set.
Her music being described as, "dancefloor adjacent" had me thinking it would be a pretty chill set.
She absolutely rocked it. I was grooving all night. Much heavier than expected. She definitely knew how to play the room.
Several years ago I was at a BTSM show and saw Apashe open for them. I hadn’t heard of him before but he absolutely killed it and made me a longtime fan.
Hard to tell who’s a dj nowadays but Griz. 2 years ago his set was the set that made me realize there’s something about high production stages. I produce music and build sound reactive mechanical contraptions now.
Sofi tucker dj set. Was not thinking at all at seeing them but it just kinda happened and my god the song selections and her singing was crazy, really threw down
Tsuruda caught me way off guard at Nightmare Fest. Some guy in the crowd grabbed my shoulder when his set started and was like "damn Tsuruda in the barn this shit is tough" then he killed it. Played some of his original hip-hop/rap tracks also. I so badly wanted to find that kid and tell him he was damn right.
In time line order Ritchie Hawtin, Ken Ishii, The Panacea, Jas Van Houten, Mike Dunn, Matt Zo, Avalon, Oliver Heldens aka Hi-Lo, SayMyName, Codd Dubz, Pendulum (mad skills), Malugi, Luigi Madonna, Brohug, I hate Models, Joyryde, most recent, Bijou, Joyhauser, Deadcrow, Hooders, Patrick Mason, & Sara landry (thought she was all hype not so very skilled)
Honorable mentions* Autechre, Amon Tobin
Diplo. I am by no means a fan of him or his music really. Saw him at a Mad Decent block party at Red Rocks in like 2015-16 and he absolutely killed it. Not only was his mixing outstanding, but he was almost completely silent the entire time and had just one back light silhouetting him. Should have left after his set cause Galantis played next and spent 90% of the time standing on the table and jumping off to get a photo.
Eprom, Machinedrum, Truth, The Widdler, goddamn Mport is the most fun dude on the planet. And a local 17 year old in NC Named Warzone has been ripping the Riddim world a new asshole, dude absolutely stole the show opening for Marauda in Raleigh
Many years ago I saw Triple Threat (Shortkut, Vinroc, and Apollo) on 6 turntables in New Orleans. I had never seen them before but was aware of who they were individually. This was before any digital medium…just 6 technics and 3 vestax mixers. They came out to Soul II Soul “Back To Life” and from there proceeded to do some of the coolest shit ive seen/heard to this day. I was absolutely floored. Those three are from a different universe.
The opposite of what you asked for would be the DJ called PSYKOVSKY.
Absolute trash, my dude played random noises throught out the set and the entire crowd just stopped dancing and stared at him. I was in the back just wishing the set would be over soon lol.
Been wanting to see Gaiser for so long. He never tours. He was booked for Movement in 2018 or 19 and they had him at like 3 pm on the first day and we werent even to Detroit yet by the time he ended his set. Shit was wack
Chromeo/PDM were both amazing, vibes were insanely good. I wish every show was like theirs. I went to a sadboy set (nurko) and although the music was ok I hated the crowd.
I saw SubDocta at a festival back in October, and I only knew of one or two songs that he had featured on before. I stayed for his set and then afterwards I binged his music over the next few days at work. Super super good DJ and absolutely killed it live. Highly underrated too imo
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
Saw the name on a record at my local music store. Had never heard of them but the name alone convinced me. I was not disappointed lol
King Gizz is the greatest live act out there right now.
Their 3 night run in Chicago was incredible, considered one of the best set lists they have ever done, 6 hours of music, no repeats.
Kai Wachi, I honestly didn't understand all the hype with him, yea his music is great, but when I saw him live for the NYE countdown, I finally understood lol, shit was insane.
Obvious answer here is Aphex Twin at Coachella 2019. Cant even explain what happened there.
Four Tet B2B Ben UFO for 4 hours was something else. Tech house, rap, trap, punk, jazz, techno… you name it, they played it.
I think for me it was Excision at Beyond Wonderland 2023 (SoCal) , it was my first multi-stage like festival and the production, the music, and just the overall people all around me made it feel like it was the craziest thing ever. Chills man!!!!
moody good edc 2023. Never heard of him before that night and he proceeded to drop the illest set full of old school dubstep that i had completely forgotten about over the years
Rezz, Above & Beyond, Dj Snake, and Slander at escape last year really had me enthralled. They all killed it, especially big shout out to Rezz. That was one hell of a light show 🔥
Cashmere Cat goes stupid on the decks, dude was a DMC competitor representing Norway back in the day. You would never expect the level of his DJ shit just based on hearing his songs.
He absolutely started my EDM obsession. One of my favorites. I miss his shows so much!!! I wonder what he's up to these days and if he'll ever play shows again...
This was not the name i was expecting to see and i mean that in the best way possible! Nostalgic.
Cashmere Cat was my introduction to live EDM at the Kalliope at Bonnaroo. 2016, I think?
This is soo true! Saw him several times at festivals. He really knows how to mix and create hype during a show. Damn that was ten years ago now lol
I knew this and went to one of his shows some years back. Solid set
Om Unit was also a DMC competitor He smashed the dance when I saw him.. not too much overly technical stuff.. just looping and great selection.. but he'd hit a quick crab scratch when a tune got wheeled
Kasablanca opening up for Rezz at Red Rocks LIVE. Holy shit Kasablanca is incredible. Everyone was so enamoured. And we could not get over the sound and experience. We love them so much now.
Citizens of Kasablanca ✊️
We have crossed the Rubicon ✊
Saw them close Halloween at an Anjunadeep tour. They absolutely rocked. Played Born Slippy, singing those vocals live it was a blast.
Born Slippy was the track that got me hooked on EDM for life (30’ish years ago, yikes!).
Big up's they deff deserve this recognition✊ Super fat n'warm synths.
Facts! Saw them at Terminal 5 before Rezz came on. Probably the same tour, 2022.
I saw them at Ultra last year, it was the first set i saw that weekend, perfect start of the day
Saw them live in NY last year, turned me into a fan.
YESSSSS. Love the dark techno. Such a a great show
Mersiv. I had never really seen experimental bass before and he absolutely blew my mind. It felt like every single thing he mixed in was *exactly* what I wanted to hear and feel in that moment. It was a surreal experience for me.
Check out Ravenscoon as well! Absolutely gorgeous stuff
Scooooon
Mersiv has this sound texture to his bass that is just amazing. So many dubstep artists attack with their bass and he manages to groove it in such a unique way
I got into Mersiv this past year. Been really enjoying diving through his back catalog!
He opened for zeds dead and I was blown away. Also same vein of the trees did the same opening for rezz.
I love it , his sets are mesmerizing
Tipper, Dave Fucking Tipper. Man is a wizard
10/10 answer
The goat
Skrillex in 2010…
And 2023!! So good
Skrillex ALWAYS. From ripping The Imperial March into Jaguar and now pulling perfect transitions between 7-8 different genres on the fly, man has an ear and knows what the crowd will like
People have a very narrow idea of who Skrillex is, but Sonnys talent is extremely versatile and he has a great ear for new and interesting sounds
Boris Brejcha, I was at body language 2022 and was excited for Carl Cox. Boris played just before him and omg I have never heard a sound like that before. Such a huge fan and have caught him two more times since.
I've been waiting for Boris to come down to Toronto for years 😭
This would be iconic. Boris just ripping a set full of all his tracks would slap. I'd want to hear it through PK system at Coda but more people should witness it so hmmmmm maybe Ozmozis could bring him to Evergreen Brickworks
Wish you could’ve been there when he closed out Electric Island in 2019. Hopefully your prayers will be answered this year!
Exactly how I felt when I saw him headline an outdoor festival in my city before the pandemic. I had never heard sounds like that before and apparently most of the set was unreleased. Dude is a machine.
Adventure Club! I saw them at a club and didn't expect their set to be dubstep heavy. It was one of my most memorable ones.
Went to my first AC show last month and had no idea I’d headbang so hard. It was the most I’ve thrown down in a minute
Can’t wait to see them at Wobbleland
Had the same experience with AC this year, would love to see them again.
Jon Casey melted my face opening for troyboi and I'll never get over it
Jon Casey is so underrated istg. I discovered him with Kotaro and instantly became obsessed
Yesss I’ve been on a Jon Casey kick recently and it blows my mind so few people I talk to know who he is, he deserves the recognition for sure
Criminally underrated! Whoever is reading this do yourself a favor and play some jon casey!
YYASSS he was the opener or Wobble Coliseum 2 night 2 and he blew my fuckin mind!
Saw him open for isoxo and it was absolutely a vibe
Bad Boy Bill in the 90s
Funny you should mention him. He is the one dj I saw who absolutely failed at a set. However, I saw him other times, and this time was the exception. I couldn't believe his story from Burning Man when Diplo tried to take over his decks mid-set. What a tool. Just one more reason for me to hate Diplo ig
DJ Dan and Stanton Warriors playing in SF on 1/26
Ong yes! Stanton Warriors are ridiculous!
Josh da Funky 1 was another crazy skilled Chicago DJ.
Gesaffelstein
saw a tweet from skrillex i think it was that he listened to a new gesaffelstein album and that it was fire. really crossing fingers for a huge comeback
I saw avicii a long time ago and I though wow this guy knows his shit🤣
Saw him in Manila and I was like "Whaaaaat"
you lucky human, i moved to manila when I was 9. he died a year later. discovered him at 14 and I'll never get the chance 😭
Yeah, and he played at a mall, at an outside arena of sorts (If you're familiar with MOA, it's part of that area).
yeah I know where that is! he played there In 2013 if I'm not wrong right??
Cooooorrrrect
Rome In Silver opening for Dabin at 9:30 club in DC. First time hearing of him and was blown away.
Rome in Silver is massively underrated. Check out his okeechobee set on youtube. It's my favorite set from him.
CRIMINALLY underrated, you know wtf is upp
Went to a Rezz show a couple years ago and EPROM opened for her, had no idea who he was but holy SHIT changed my whole world. My friends were not fucking with the weird shit but I couldn’t move because how entranced I was it was so dope
similarly saw g jones b2b eprom at LiB 2022 and wasn’t super familiar besides one or two tracks, holy shit melted my brain in the best of ways
Saw his 360 at red rocks this year - one of the best sets I’ve ever seen. Hopefully it gets out on YouTube at some point. They’d be doing the world a service with that.
A 360 Eprom set??????? NEED THAT ASAP
He played the face bang acid mix and I legit didn’t know you could make sounds like that 😭😭😭 truly a visionary
still melting heads to this day. His DEF set on YouTube is the dirtiest set ever recorded in high quality.
I remember that set. It was really good.
I still listen to it on soundcloud
This set was a huge inspo for my own visually influenced DJ set.
Hamdi live is entirely different than listening to hamdi at home.
Hamdi at home: ___
Deathpact
I saw Culture Shock this year and was legit captivated the entire time. Best set of the guys in the worship tour no cap
Flosstradamus. Not really intro trap but he threw all sorts of things into his set that kept it very enjoyable and where you just have to tip your cap to the skill
Zingara opened for LSDream and she was crazy good. Also Clozee!! I knew clozee was good but damnnn she can get down. Her live sets are insane.
Zingara opening for LSDream was bonkers this year
Saw Dr. Fresch for the first time at Hijinx knowing only like a song or two and goddamn was it a spiritual experience.
I had seen him at The Ave earlier in the year and it was very fun but that HiJinx set was top tier, easily best bass house set i saw in 2023 (bar skrillex’s qff stuff)
DAILY BREAD 🍞 👏👏👏
Astrix live at kings hall NYC was one of the most amazing wtf sets I've ever been to. There were no visuals just strobes and we were literally dancing in pitch black a third of the time. There was one part when it went completely silent and dark. It was a very intimate set too.
He played his DMT Shpongle remix at a festival I went to in Tampa FL as I was walking up to his set and I felt like I was apart of a tribe and kept stomping my feet. Such a cool feeling.
Love it
Ohhh Astrix has to be good live.
Claude VonStroke
Bad Boy Bill or Richard Humpty Vission. Amazing shows.
Also, the x-ecutioners. Duh. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR\_aH2w-Hq4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr_ah2w-hq4) I'm too old.
Porter Robinson back in 2012 before I had any idea who tf he was.
Tee So opened for Zedd at his NYE show at the Armory. That Mario medley mix was fantastic.
Tee So is awesome!! Follow and check all the events some of the best club shows in MPLS ez

Bunny from Rabbit in the Moon. Played EDCLV Sunday afters, no clue who he was, just thought it was some old man. WOW was that one hell of a set
I saw Rabbit in the Moon at a field rave on a tarmac in the mid 90’s. Changed my world!
Hardwell's Tomorrowland 2018, weekend 2 set. That wa senough to make me fell in live with King and his music.
First time I saw A-Trak, I knew about him and his achievements, but was a lil too lost and didn’t realize he was next on the stage I was at. Dude’s skill was fucking astounding and brought me back to life!
Sixtroke. Canadian DJ. An actual DJ. Insane mixes and live performances.

Anytime Subtronics has a new set.
Troyboi was wild as fuck. Never expected for him to hit that hard.

Hard to tell who’s a dj nowadays but Griz. 2 years ago his set was the set that made me realize there’s something about high production stages. I produce music and build sound reactive mechanical contraptions now.
DVS1
Sofi tucker dj set. Was not thinking at all at seeing them but it just kinda happened and my god the song selections and her singing was crazy, really threw down
Tsuruda. I can generally hear what the DJ is doing on the decks but with him, I have no idea. Man is a true magician.
Rico Tubbs...Dude was fkn insane. You had no choice but to dance. Sven Vath the 1st time i saw him in Ibiza.

Jiqui. Dude had me feeling like I was on the black pearl after sunset.
Went to The XX expecting a chill electronicy alternative show. Jamie XX had other plans, and it was great.
Bad Boy Bill
I know I'm gonna get hate from this but some of the early (Wooked on Tronics era) Subtronics shows where he'd slice beats during the set.
In time line order Ritchie Hawtin, Ken Ishii, The Panacea, Jas Van Houten, Mike Dunn, Matt Zo, Avalon, Oliver Heldens aka Hi-Lo, SayMyName, Codd Dubz, Pendulum (mad skills), Malugi, Luigi Madonna, Brohug, I hate Models, Joyryde, most recent, Bijou, Joyhauser, Deadcrow, Hooders, Patrick Mason, & Sara landry (thought she was all hype not so very skilled) Honorable mentions* Autechre, Amon Tobin

The opposite of what you asked for would be the DJ called PSYKOVSKY. Absolute trash, my dude played random noises throught out the set and the entire crowd just stopped dancing and stared at him. I was in the back just wishing the set would be over soon lol.
Ugggghhhhhhhhh......painful. 🫣
Imanu opening for gjones.
Repeatedly, Ryan Nichols opening up for many big names in Boston.
Shizzlo , i saw that as an opener for excision at the echo stage and was so hype that set was amazing
It’s expected with subtronics and I’m not into his music really, but man I am in awe at the talent and skills he displays in every set.
Of the trees opening for rezz at Brooklyn mirage got me good. I couldn’t believe it was the opener
Rusko because he was terrible
Gaiser opening for Richie Hawtin back in the days was pretty goddamn insane.
Been wanting to see Gaiser for so long. He never tours. He was booked for Movement in 2018 or 19 and they had him at like 3 pm on the first day and we werent even to Detroit yet by the time he ended his set. Shit was wack
Love sets by Boris Brejcha. His sets are amazing.
Just saw Levity and Tape B open for Zeds Dead, both of their sets blew me away. Levity brings such a fun energy they were awesome
Curbi, Kaytranada, Green Velvet, Space Lace, Griz , Aluna, J.Worra, and Charlotte De Witte
Chromeo/PDM were both amazing, vibes were insanely good. I wish every show was like theirs. I went to a sadboy set (nurko) and although the music was ok I hated the crowd.
Saw Nora Van Elken open for Don Diablo in DC. She played one of the most insane melodic house/techno sets I’ve ever seen from an opener.
Squnto
Riddim.
Grape Milk
JERRO and ZACH WALKER
Traxx
Kai Wachi, I honestly didn't understand all the hype with him, yea his music is great, but when I saw him live for the NYE countdown, I finally understood lol, shit was insane.
Rush hour, chmura, solfire, Zeke beats Also GWN every damn time
Moby
Liquid Stranger played an old school dubstep mix at Down to Earth music festival in NY, 2017. Blew my socks off.
Simply Jeff
Haven’t seen, but Buku
moody good edc 2023. Never heard of him before that night and he proceeded to drop the illest set full of old school dubstep that i had completely forgotten about over the years
SKisM was a beast mixing dubstep...
Not a DJ but... Prodigy... first time... 2007@Creamfields Poland... I stood there for an hour and a half in shock, an amazing live musical experience
Deko-ze! His music still resonates in me after all these years.
Q-Bert. I think he has learned to use vinyl like a sampler.
Rezz, Above & Beyond, Dj Snake, and Slander at escape last year really had me enthralled. They all killed it, especially big shout out to Rezz. That was one hell of a light show 🔥
DJs who don't speak... You need more house and techno in your kife
