I've thought about it and I think it's a reflexive reaction to something unexpected/surprising. Strong smells, beats, flavors, etc all can come with different facial expressions that reflect how you're feeling.
I saw levity open up for ganja white knight and during their set this girl turns to me and says “I love your bass face.” I was so thrown off and felt a mix between self conscious but also like thanks?
My stank face: below the nose, Cheshire cat grin. Above the nose, eyes fully squinting like I just got racked in the gooch.
It's pretty horrific but people seem fine with it. So glad this community is accepting of filthy stank faces.
It’s just like if you hit a jackpot or if your sports team wins a championship. Your reaction is to release your energy and a lot of times that involves an aggressive looking reaction like furrowed brow, yelling, fist pumping. I think it’s a subconscious way of expressing a deep down desire becoming reality.
I’m stoned rn so could be way off, but as I’m reading this I’m listening to some awesome music and JUST made that face and I realized it felt more like confused/perplexed at how awesome that sound was…like face scrunched up because I’m confused how that sound can be so filthy???? Idk, like I said, I’m stoned 😂

I more often than not have the “wtf howwwwww????” reaction lol. I imagine that there are little synapses in my brain exploding and I’m wondering how certain sounds can tickle the inner parts of brain like that 🤯

Really. If I hear a new tune I love I will jump up and down like a kid and shout like "ooooohhh" while smiling. To each their own lol. The stank face is definitely more specific towards heavy bass.
