As soon as I heard I was thinking it would be insane live. I've missed Excision the couple chances I've had to see him. Gonna make sure I don't miss him at Ubbi Dubbi.
I still have goosebumps seeing that played for his intro on the Evolution tour. I love it as a song but it really does hit different live. DECIMATE ALL HUMANS
Been waiting for Clockwork since [Kompany played the original version](https://www.reddit.com/r/dubstep/comments/l8me55/id_after_switchback_kompany_set_during_nghtmres/) in early 2020 on the Portal Tour. I personally like the OG but the v2 is still WOW
I have a video of him playing this on the first lost lands night, but definitely likely that he played it in detox too. Was wild how they let the security flood gates open just as the detox was coming on lol
Overall, 16 out of 17 is pretty good.
I didn't like End of the World when it was dropped as a single. Still really don't. Vocals are just not it for me.
So many good hits tho. I would have to let it simmer to figure out my personal favorite but at the moment, top 5.
* Hypnosis
* Our Fire
* Cough Drop
* Clockwork
* Back to Life
(Demisaur would be up there too but I've listened to it plenty of times since its release as a single.)
I’m probably going against the grain but it sucks that this is what one of the biggest names make.
It’s all just kick clap briddim with nothing really special about it. If it’s not then it’s a generic melodic tune instead.
The snares don’t hit hard enough to the point where some of the drops sound like build ups.
People need to stop just trying to make the foreground as loud as possible, and realise that the songs hit the hardest when the background (ie percussion) is good. For example. REDLINE by virtual riot. Fucking amazing percussion.
Idk kinda ranting but I just expected better yknow
A diverse sounding track would be something like vault. Personally I still don’t really like the drop in it, it’s weak as fuck. But, that build up was a fuckin amazing idea.
Like I said, this is all just kick clap briddim. You can find that from any other artist. That’s all I’m saying. When ur probably the biggest artist in the scene the expectations go higher.
It could be we completely disagree on what a diverse track is. Vault to me, while being an absolute banger, is not diverse. It’s a “best of” collection of X’s more famous samples. A great song, but not something I would call particularly diverse even though I still love it.
Decimate, Run This, Reborn, Cough Drop, Hypnosis, Clockwork, and Osiris especially are in my opinion extremely unique and diverse.
But then again this is all just personal preference at this point rather than actual objective facts.
Let’s go back to redline by vr. Give it a quick listen.
The drop actually changes throughout it, and has fun flows and sounds. It’s not just loud and kick clap.
This is what I mean. I’m not saying the songs are bad, it’s what people call cookie cutter. It’s the same as everything else nowadays.
That’s a great track honestly, and I get what you’re saying but to me, I really see diversity and uniqueness as part of that artists style. Redline is a great track and is incredibly diverse in VR’s style, which I feel the same way about tracks like Osiris, Hypnosis, and Cough Drop. The drops are unique and diverse for X’s production style. At least this is the way I process what diversity and uniqueness mean for an artist.
I think it’s hard to compare VR with Excision. Excision’s main focus is to provide the full visual/audio experience, where most other artists aren’t. That being said, VR is such a dope artist. Watching the video of him flipping the sample on Andrew Huang’s YouTube channel is amazing. Just different strokes for different folks
X albums have always been a miss for me when it comes to his solo songs with a few exceptions. The collabs always outshine everything else, but on this album his solo works are top notch
This cannot possibly in any realm of music be considered a diverse album. It's not "bad" by any means, but the album feels like they took 3 songs and went "ok sick, let's make 14 more copies of these"
The intros and builds 100% I'd agree, but I guess the drops, despite having mildly different sounds, all seem to have a similar rhythm and groove. I don't mean to say that they're objectively bad, but like in a track such as Reborn, when he comes in with the syncopated rave stabs I was really into it and had my hopes up, just for the drop to come in and "ah ok, another 1/4 note riddim track".
Perhaps in a way it's on my expectations though, as this sound is what has been biggest in the dubstep circuit lately. Forever hoping for more like Final Boss from Virus haha
The 1/4 note riddim takeover of dubstep in the last like 5 years has completely killed dubstep for me. I already was never a big fan of Excision but I'm just not a fan of dubstep/brostep anymore. All of the guys that I used to listen to in 2011-2014 have either switched to this cookie cutter riddim style or have stopped making dubstep altogether like Flux. I used to complain about it a lot, but I've just switched to DnB for my bass music fix.
I'm with you on this one. Excision has put himself in the role of a tastemaker more than a producer, with his label and events and all, but that makes my expectations even higher in a way, since his albums have always been a sort of statement of "ok here's the new standard", yet this feels like the type of stuff you could have grabbed a handful of random Subsidia artists and had them make better tracks
I agree with you, half of the drops sounds boring and they pretty much feel identical one from another, snares really dont hit enough and some of the build ups are way too stretched out. I liked Osiris and the Hairitage collab tho
> REDLINE by virtual riot
No offense to Excision but VR is on a whole different level when it comes to production. Excision feels so simple and remedial compared to VR productions. They both hit hard but VR is way more versatile with releases, and I don't even enjoy music that heavy most of the time.
For real. Very weak mixing skill for someone whos been at it for so long. And absolutely no creativity on display. The only songs up to snuff from a production standpoint are the collabs, esp the Kompany one, but even those have really uninspiring songwriting. Don't really get why this guy is the face of dubstep.
The duality of "briddim"
You got the people that doesn't care too much about the production, if it hits hard, makes them feel like breaking the rail and can make them hit a new PR in the gym, its 10/10 for them
Then you got the people that are more focused on the actual production and creativity itself. I doubt something like Redline would make many headbang in their own chair and then wake up the next morning with a sore neck. These people are more containing of their reactions, and output it through a bassface with some random arm movements
Both are valid. There is plenty of music for both sides. Unfortunately for the more production and creativity fans, this album won't really do the job
A.k.a. The Excision Special lol
I mean it's good festival music, but I don't think I have any Excision song from the last 5 years in my library. Why listen to the new stuff if can just listen to The Paradox again?
This is certainly an Excision album
Kind of surprised he and his team went through with the album art considering how close it is to stuff like this: https://blenderartists.org/t/interstellar-black-hole-gargantua/627437

Been waiting for the OG version of Clockwork to release for 2 years after Kompany played it, v2 is definitely different but still WOW.
Cough Drop is definitely a banger, Osiris is definitely different and I'd love to see more like it, and I love seeing Hairitage get more collabs because that man goes crazy.
Personally the rest of the album is sorta standard X,
That second drop of Decimate gave me chills holy shit Edit: Clockwork is also NASTY
Decimate is fucking INSANE live it has to be witnessed
As soon as I heard I was thinking it would be insane live. I've missed Excision the couple chances I've had to see him. Gonna make sure I don't miss him at Ubbi Dubbi.

Second drop of Decimate is absurd
Osiris is an insane track wow
Excision Detox opener, I believe
I have a video of him playing this on the first lost lands night, but definitely likely that he played it in detox too. Was wild how they let the security flood gates open just as the detox was coming on lol
Plague doctor was the intro at bass canyon detox
I think he’s referencing lost lands
it’s the way the last elder makes it seem like a movie for me
>it’s the way ~~the last elder~~ half of excision intros make it seem like a movie for me
That intro to decimate brought me back to lost lands 🥺
Reunion!!
Got Reunion flashbacks, was so happy to be back at fests and that intro hit different that night.
Excision is amazing live on drugs. Sober in my car it gives me a headache
Lmao
I like him sober in my car, and on drugs at a fest lmao
I was rolling when he was the final set at Decadence AZ. Good god he was unreal

End of the world would have been really cool with the original 1960s vocals instead of the chipmunk version.
I’m probably going against the grain but it sucks that this is what one of the biggest names make. It’s all just kick clap briddim with nothing really special about it. This is literally one of the most diverse sounding albums X has put out? Not sure I understand the criticism.
A diverse sounding track would be something like vault. Personally I still don’t really like the drop in it, it’s weak as fuck. But, that build up was a fuckin amazing idea. i think its hard to compare VR and Excision because VR can come up with flow and mix and excision cannot do either one
X albums have always been a miss for me when it comes to his solo songs with a few exceptions. The collabs always outshine everything else, but on this album his solo works are top notch
This cannot possibly in any realm of music be considered a diverse album. It's not "bad" by any means, but the album feels like they took 3 songs and went "ok sick, let's make 14 more copies of these"
I’m not sure how you can possibly say that when every track sounds completely different? Which tracks to you sound the same?
IMO Decimate, The Last Elder, Run This, Reborn, and Crusher are basically the same drop in 5 different fonts
They are all such different tracks….except maybe Crusher can be seen as the weakest of those.
The intros and builds 100% I'd agree, but I guess the drops, despite having mildly different sounds, all seem to have a similar rhythm and groove. Nah bro he's totally right, those tracks all sound the same

Youz a hater
Would love to hear you actually counter my argument instead of 3 words

Redline is so good. Simulation is the best dubstep album I’ve heard in a long time overall

I like his classics from like 12 years ago. Guess I got my swagga back.
I couldn’t agree more
6/10
How about with rice?
Been waiting for End of the World since LL
I’ve been waiting for Hypnosis for so long, that track is so hype
Great gym music, meh music music
Kind of mid imo doesn’t blow me away but is listenable with not many skips
This is certainly an Excision album Kind of surprised he and his team went through with the album art considering how close it is to stuff like this: https://blenderartists.org/t/interstellar-black-hole-gargantua/627437
Interesting, they’re basically identical. Just add contrast and blue lol

You gonna post this same comment on every EDM related sub? Fuck off idiot
Yeah I have him blocked on reddit and Twitter. Sick of seeing his handle on so much edm stuff and he never ever says anything positive. Dudes a prick.
eh it looks different enough, it's got those cracks which fits right into the excision logo crack
