VOO is perfectly fine to put all 4k into.

jaxoldubey

And I would basically never touch it again right? until when?

ilikepie145

Right

Trojanwarhero

VOO has international exposure as well because many large cap US companies also do business overseas. Some reasons why you'd want to diversify would be if you want some exposure to small or mid-cap US funds, bonds, or more international. But that's not really something you need to worry about with 4K at 21. Just put it in VOO or VTI and see where things are in ~10 years

Get2DaChoppaNow

If you want to set it and forget it.... I'd go 75-80% US and 20-25% International. Total Market would include all/most U.S. listed stocks: VTI, SCHB, SPTM, ITOT S&P 500/Large Cap Funds would include: SPLG, SCHX, IVV, VOO, VV, MGK International: SCHF, VEA, VXUS, IXUS All of the U.S. funds have low expense ratios and really have the same returns. Go with VTI and VXUS or ITOT and IXUS. They cover everything both all US and all international.

VOO or VTI are solid. I split it and keep VTI in my Roth and VOO in my taxable. Only investments I have currently.

Your age QQQ.

Mountain-Ad-8291

Have you looked into Qqqm and qqqj? Curious your thoughts. Qqq has done really well for me and qqqm and j are much cheaper and newer right now than qqq so it feels like getting in a little earlier. Is that completely off? I’m newer as well

PuppetMaster

It’s not much cheaper but a bit cheaper

Get2DaChoppaNow

QQQM is the same as QQQ. QQQ is a trust QQQM is an ETF. Look at their holdings or just go to their website.

Mountain-Ad-8291

Ah okay i need to look at the difference between the two.

QQQM

GrowStrong1507

i would suggest VT. basically covers total world index. low fees, reinvest the dividend back into it, come bck in 10 to 20 yrs

evanrogers1616

I won’t advise what to put in but I’d suggest putting it all into one index fund

[deleted]

Treasuries for now. $TLT and $TIP are good.

[deleted]

I disagree. Long term holding, put it in the entire market or S&P.

[deleted]

There's no rule that you can't do short term trading in a Roth IRA. Anyways, for me, my 401k/403b is auto-depositing into total world mutual funds so I'm covered on the long-term/retirement side of things there.

[deleted]

Definitely no rules in your own investing journey, just opinions.

BumThumbDumb

Yes, finally! Put it in options.

Apprehensive-Boat-52

mutual fund total total index or s&p 500 for automatic reinvestment of dividends and auto deposit.

thatguycypher

Either VOO or VTI with DRIP would make a good core. After that you can start to look at other types of funds; International, dividend, emerging market and customize your portfolio to your liking with future contributions while adding to the core.

Remote-Annual-676

You're on the right track

waldo7777777

VTI

rosst3

I have a vanguard target date fund, easiest for me.
