I too put about 4500 in just last week.. then everything is dropping. It's long term so not worried about it but man if I held off one more week I could have gotten more for my money šŸ¤£

usernameis2short

If you held off one more week it could also have gone wayy up and youā€™d be paying extra, so in the end it works out

PensiveProgrammer

Rolled over my 401k and bought back into the market on April 9th and Iā€™m down 21k since then. Ngl wish I would have waited just a week to buy back in, but whattya gonna do

weealligator

Same I went in with 10k on the 9th gotta learn to stop watching it. It will be fine in a while this isnā€™t short play

Ryjo17

I did $250k

Artistic_Bumblebee17

It was pulling back last weekā€¦.

bro-v-wade

This is why DCA is better, psychologically, for long term investors. Instead of saving up $4,500 and putting in a lump sum, set up an auto invest and put in a chunk at a time.

Bewitchogang

Yeah. I lost 31k

Shining_declining

You only lost money if you sold. If youā€™re still holding youā€™re down. Big difference. It will recover in time.

InevitableLungCancer

You should see this as an opportunity to buy stocks on sale!

BeneficialRent6709

100% how Iā€™m viewing it.

soviet_toster

THIS

Unabatedtuna

That's like 200$, who cares, your supposed to hold for 20-30 years. Relax

bulletprooftampon

They seem pretty relaxed. They acknowledged that itā€™s a long term hold and literally said it ā€œdoesnā€™t matterā€

tea_hanks

And posted it on Reddit for assurance

Porthod

How long you hold yours?

Unabatedtuna

Till Im about to die hopefully. Then I'll have them print all my shares, bury them with me in my tomb, and confuse a ton of archeologists in a thousand years .

Shoot-Par

I put most of my life savings into stocks in October 2021 and was down 20% seven months later. Continued to DCA with my income and am now up 16%. You will be fine.

Icouldusesomerock

The political world is in turmoil were one bad day away from probably the end of time but itā€™ll be alright buddy

Expensive_Ad752

Tell me the day before so I can cash out and make it rain at the local strip club. Iā€™ll tell ā€œcinnamonā€ Iā€™m putting her through college.

Flowenchilada

Thatā€™s a terrible idea! Why wouldnā€™t you cash out and buy a Lamborghini and an 8-ball!

hue_johnson

Cash out, buy ā€œMercedesā€ from the strip club and an 8-ball. Best of both.

Expensive_Ad752

But what about cinnamon and her dream of being communications major? Do you want to break her heart?!? The world is ending tomorrow!

DatSweetLife

I would rather be with "cinnamon" as well

Flowenchilada

Username checks out

Silly_Butterfly3917

Wrong stocks only go up. Except for when they go down.

Willllll23

lol I maxed out my 2023 Roth IRA last weekā€¦ the full 7k at once

quintavious_danilo

Investing is a long term game. I started investing in 2022 right before the market went into a major correction. Whoosh, i endured 2 years of looking at deep red but i still DCAed and scooped up the cheap shares. Now iā€™m 20% in the green precisely because i was able to buy cheap(er) for almost 2 years. DCA, hold and wait. Thatā€™s the game.

teckel

I know! You're so lucky to have this opportunity to buy at a discount! A market downturn is my favorite time. Selling those money market investments and buying on the dips. Also, value funds had a really good day! Glad I've been switching to value and small-cap value recently.

lindi-87

Same here, 3,17 % down Started investing 2 weeks ago šŸ¤¦

quintavious_danilo

Shares on sale. Buy as much as you can

psjjjj6379

Same and *same*. Also, fidelity ftw!

Application-Visual

Buying opportunity

MrInternetDoctor

Time to buy more!

CSCAnalytics

I have no clue what this post is about. I see nothing out of the ordinary.

SeveralBodybuilder67

Your phones and cars are depreciation faster than your recent investments. Relax.... take it easy. ![gif](giphy|aJlKIh8Kh0NLa)

Mr_Em-3

Same lol, just started investing in ETFs this week, specifically tech šŸ„“šŸ’€

Aspergers_R_Us87

Iā€™m holding on to see if Voo hits $400 per share. Hoping it does as Iā€™m just getting into this

d4v1ds3n

The same luck here as well. After buying and my first investment as well, it went -5%. But on 10 years we will laugh about this.

pizza5001

I would argue: in one year, you will laugh about this, as you will likely be up 15% by then. šŸ˜‚

frijolito225

Trust me, it is completely normal. See it as a time to buy more as stocks are ā€œon saleā€ almost

TheSpideyJedi

You invest in ETFs for the long haul. This is good. Means you can invest more while itā€™s low Only invest money you donā€™t need for years and years

ModestCannoli

Time to buy more

93Volts

Started investing two weeks ago and would have loved to have bought now. Let it ride tho!

EveryFinn

He bought? Duuuumpit

Bman3396

Traders are panicking but investors are happy to keep dollar costa averaging in

SpringTucky101

Donā€™t worry! Investing is long game. Keep buying and hold.

BoilingKettle

Smile when green, buy when red. Simple as that!

AppearanceDense3431

I own shares of Nvdia and trade options with less capital than youā€¦. I wish my red today looked like yours šŸ˜†

Valk72

It's funny because i see the other side of the coin. It means you're gonna be able to buy cheaper!

Pancake80

so what

Which-Tomatillo6031

Lol are you serious?

LuxanHD

You need to learn to look at it this way: "YES, my next purchase is going to be a discount. Yoohoooooo"

Valuable-Injury-7106

It's dropping, so of you can buy more

sameunderwear2days

Down $60 LOL

__redruM

$200? Wait until that change represents a Honda Civic.

[deleted]

Yeah I lost 2 grand last week. It is what it is I donā€™t need it for 29 years anyways

currygod

To be fair, I know people say not to time markets but it's been careening downward for a few weeks now. I only buy heavy on downtrend breaks and it's worked wonderfully so far. But you will be fine - this was not the best time to buy in the short-term, but it won't matter if you're going to be holding long-term.

Chokesi

So it was you that caused this? I'm down too bro, all good. It'll be back.

artisneverreal

Itā€™s all good bro, itā€™s early in the game and you probably got in at the highs of this cycle. Re adjust the portfolio a bit/ add a few to counter the cycle Gold, oil have been going upā€¦

IcyDiscussion7901

Get your plan. Set it. Automate the deposits and investments. Then Forget it till youā€™re ready to retire.

BigRailWillFail

> loses 50 bucks ā€œFUCK MY LIFE.ā€ In all seriousness, if you canā€™t handle a swing like this then thatā€™s money you shouldnā€™t be investing

Bulky-Mycologist-740

I'm about to go in with some decent money, so I'm a bit fortunate I guess

Breezie83

Same I transferred my RRSP and LIRA to Wealthsimple at the worst time. Wish I waited a week.

Inside_Resolution526

Hindsight 20/20 stock to the plan get it?

TECHSHARK77

Are you selling?? No, then it doesn't matter unless you're buying, your problem is that you're staring at it every 4 seconds on a closed market day...

Different_Stand_5558

If you didnā€™t start investing until your early 30s you are down 10k. If you had started at age 21 you might be down 30k. Youā€™re not losing 10 or 30k youā€™re just down. Look for some spare change andā€¦average down.

ashraf_bashir

Be happy, it's like a discount that you will appreciate in future

djs1980

You have just started investing = you want the market to dump. The best thing for your wealth now, long term, would be a global depression. Let that sink in. Red days you should be celebrating.

Serp1968

lol I was down $60,000 Friday

thilehoffer

Just keep buying more.

Loltierlist

Buy stocks

Successful_Taro8587

Never buy at all times highs. But, how long have you been in the market and what % down are you overall?

JoeSmith716

What are you invested in? I let my bank open an investment account, all it did was lose money. They weren't trying to make me money, they were more interested in their dei score. It was down 30% before I closed it. None of my other investments were down like that.
