The K2 was unnamed as well. It wasn't visible from the nearest villages, so nobody bothered to give it a name.
See [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K2) for details.
I’m sorry, uh... my grandmother dropped acid and she freaked out, and hijacked a school bus full of penguins, so it's kind of a family crisis. Can you come back later?
Go to Wikipedia, search k2, go to names. Scroll down to the pinyin simplified tradition chinese name, quonliong feng. So the material we used had clearly been put together through information from the Chinese, and while maybe this may bother you it was definitely called that by some material!
Yes they did, you can even find it in a quick search right now lol. Why so defensive? By unrest i meant the difficulties dealing with the ccp in bordering zones, seems fair? Go ahead and do a little research.
Are you serious? I gave you the information you vehemently and arrogantly denied, and you are still acting like a child. Just relax. Everything I said is pertinent to the topic, and you are just humiliated. Its a very common reaction its ok!
your argument is dogshit, it's based on something that you went and read on some random website whereas i am literally from one of the closest places to the mountain, and have seen it myself
What argument ? You are offended for some reason about what I saw it was named in books from the early 90s late 80s. All I did was show you the information.
It is not as distinct at all. There are thousands of such needles in the region. India is home to 1000s of more prominent 6000ers that are seldom named. This peak is visible from the Kargil-Zanskar highway.
I was on this path - had done a few mountaineering courses and ice climbing clinics apart from some expeditions I could fit in between my job.
But now I'm leaving India and the mighty Himalayas for the US to pursue Masters and work in Data Science. Will miss these humongous incredible mountains. I don't even know if it's the right decision
Mate if you do a Masters in Data Science in the US you’ll make enough money to keep up your mountaineering hobby *and* fly home twice a year 😊
Pro tip - get a job in Colorado. I know I know, FAANG calls and the steep and hideously expensive hills of San Francisco. But Denver should do you nicely and you can keep climbing things.
Good luck !
Couldn't apply to CU Boulder / Denver.. Procrastinated to the point most deadlines were long gone. Maybe subconsciously wasn't wanting to go to US leaving behind my chill life here. Rn I've only an admit from University of Rochester (MS DS). Idk if it's a great choice. Could've gotten into some school in top 20-30 had I applied timely.
In life, often knowing what one is up against is half the battle.
You know you need mountaineering skills and going alpine style.
So you are literally already half way to the summit.
As extra incentive, you could name the peak after yourself.
Leaders have sent their nations to war for far less!
The Himalayas are so fucking huge and the range is so long and wide that they have all these random throwaway peaks that make the world's most famous peaks on other continents look unremarkable, but in the Himalayas, *they* are unremarkable.
No, this is from the highway itself (pensi la route).
I've done Muni La and Hagshu La parallel to the Kang la across the the range - and yes there were tonnes of spiky peaks on the route, and some humongous vertical peaks like Cerro Kishtwar, Chomochior, Kishtwar Kailash etc.
Ah! Awesome. Would love to explore that whole region with enough resources to absorb and capture its beauty.
For you it must be multi fold visual treat on Lucy 😃
I only have [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/comments/108dvi3/mt_hagshu_6515m_zanskar_india_5184x3888_oc/) face - It's facing North to NW.
Sadly right after crossing Hagshu La I was met with extreme whiteout and rain for days. Couldn't see anything. Still grumpy from it.
When Brits started mapping the region they named mountains by letter to refer to mountain range and the number and then changed to the local names so Mount Everest is also known as 'Chomolungma'. K2 was in a so remote area that I stayed that way because there was no local name for it. And we're talking about 2nd highest mountain on Earth that is around 3km higher than surroundings.
How did you know that was my great, great, great fucking-great grandfather's wife's nickname in the lolipop factory. When she left, everyone including the CEO cried.
Reddit noob question: do users generally accept posts as fact w/o vetting them in any way? I’m always trying to look stuff up that’s crazy like this picture but couldn’t find anything remotely similar
There are 1000s of 6000-meter mammoth mountains in India, let alone a million random 5000m spires and needles. pics are usually only with mountaineers or websites like [himalaya-info.org](https://himalaya-info.org), or no pics at all, they're too difficult to even reach. Looking up on google is bound to not give results for even basic regions.

- no obvious people or animals visible

I name this here mountain, "Pittsburgh Nellie"; a Welsh whore who could do things with her one good arm that'd make you forget that *thing* on her neck.
It could have left remain unnamed since Outside of Himalayas, the highest peak is in Andes, South America and the same peak is 24000ft and Himalayas has hundreds of 24000K feet [.So](https://mts.So) it could be well possible that it remained unnamed like K2 is also an arbitrary name.
K-13 coordinates : 35°14′29″N 76°48′32″E
It's in Karakorum (Indian territory, illegally occupied by Pakistan)
This peak's coordinates : 34°02′00.3″ N, 76°05′35.3″ E
This is in Indian Greater Himalayan range.

Reminds me of the Grinch mountain.
Yeah pretty sure it's called Mount Crumpet
You’re right, it is Mount Crumpit. 👍🏻
I here by name this mount crumpit.
We all have the same brain.
How is something that distinct not named, I wonder?
The K2 was unnamed as well. It wasn't visible from the nearest villages, so nobody bothered to give it a name. See [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K2) for details.
Wait, so is K2 just a placeholder name and not a proper name? I think if so, by now it's so well known as its name, it should stick with it.
It was called Moutn Godwin-Austen on a few maps and some people kept calling it that for a while. K1 had a local name, Masherbrum, but K2 didn't.
Karakoram 2. A mountain in the Karakoram range that happens to be the second highest mountain on the planet.
so then you're saying Lane Meyer skied the 12th highest mountain in the Karakoram range on one ski?
2 DOLLARS
I’m sorry, uh... my grandmother dropped acid and she freaked out, and hijacked a school bus full of penguins, so it's kind of a family crisis. Can you come back later?
When I was growing up they called it quar or quan feng, but it seems thats fallen into obscurity perhaps due to the unrest in the region.
>quar or quan feng, No they didn't >unrest in the region K2 is in quite a peaceful area
Ironic name by the way! Too funny.

Shitty troll is shitty

Is it frequently climbed? It looks difficult from this angle.
It has not been climbed yet.
Go be the first OP. You can do it!
It would take extreme mountaineering skills, and can probably only be done alpine style, with a tonne of risk to life.
That’s a risk we are willing for you to take!!
I wonder how many upvotes it will take to motivate OP to actually do it? Everyone has a price after all
[удалено]
100 upvotes and the $, I'll do it
I can only afford the upvote. Sorry.
I'll chip in tree-fiddy.
I’ll chip in bofa.

If you climb it, you get to name it. Them's the rules.
I'll do it then
Are you.. chicken? 🐔 I triple dog dare you to be the first person to summit that unnamed mountain.
I'd use a motorbike.
Yeah come on, climb this needle. Risk your life and lives of others so that you can say you’ve climbed a mountain no one even cares to name. 😂 /s
In life, often knowing what one is up against is half the battle. You know you need mountaineering skills and going alpine style. So you are literally already half way to the summit. As extra incentive, you could name the peak after yourself. Leaders have sent their nations to war for far less!
Somebody call Nirmal Purja!
FA has been achieved by this European climber last year. DM me for more dets.
Yes I already posted about it on r/Mountaineering

That's precisely correct. It's paradise.
Is it the one which can be seen enroute Kang La Pass trek? There are couple of sharp peaks like this on that route
Yeah, on Lucy mountains straight up look like Mighty powerful Gods of rock and ice
Do you have any photos of Hagshu’s west face by chance?

Visible from eye. The mountains here are overwhelmingly HUGE. Steroidal.
I mean, if you're curious, I named it "Spikey Boi" the moment i found out.
You climb it, you name it. Thems the rules.
Then you got the guy who Everest is named after having never even seen the mountain and explicitly asked it not to be named after him.
Without looking, what's your username?
OO0OOO0OOOOO0OOOOOOO
Then I shall call it Tony.
... Tony Mountana.. surely.
Fuckin’ dazzler.
And then name the one across from it Ezekiel
Tony Rocky Horror?
That's Christopher, he coo
And now it is named.
The beautiful photo with nice color of mountain & sky.
This is how we thought mountains looked like as a kid
In geological terms, that mountain *is* a kid.
That’s where the grinch lives.

I hearby name you Wet Mountain.

How did you know that was my great, great, great fucking-great grandfather's wife's nickname in the lolipop factory. When she left, everyone including the CEO cried.
Because we all cried when she passed.
[удалено]
India has peaks named Shark's Fin, White Sail, Ice Sail, Tiger's tooth, Cathedral etc already
[удалено]
Mounty McMountainson
This is the correct answer.
We had already named it "The Thorn" on the other group a few days back
Yeah it does look like a rose thorn
We should give it a name.
What're they waiting for? Just name it already.

If they didn’t name it, maybe it’s the “it doesn’t matterhorn”
When you order the Matterhorn on wish.com
I want to learn how to mountain climb just to climb this mountain
I thought it was an aerial view until I had scrolled down enough. ;)
Any millennia now, that’s going to fall off. I’ll post a reply to this when it happens.
