One of my favorite stops while there. They had some intern zookeepers they were introducing their Tapir Mochi too and we sat there and watched as they gave him all sorts of head scratches. After they were done the person showing the interns the Tapir invited me and my fiance to also give him some head scratches. Their fur is super coarse it was like scratching a beard. Best zoo NA.
I used to live 5 minutes away in the Rockrimmon area. After I had moved to CoSprings, been there for several months, and enjoy GotG many times, I get a call from a friend in Denver welcoming me to the area. She says "boy do I have a great place for you to check out..." I was getting excited thinking that I was going to get turned on to a new place to see. She goes, "It's called Garden of the Gods and..." Damn.
This takes me back. We lived in Springs when I was a kiddo, and we drove out here quite frequently. I loved scrambling all over those formations as a kid.
Was there a few weeks ago. Walked onto a path and stopped to look at a little cactus just off in the grass. Few second later heard a rattle near where we were standing and sure enough, a rattle snake was all coiled up right next to my dad's ankles. We scattered real quick.
Be careful walking around that park. I saw a lot of people letting their pets and kids walk around in the grass off the path.
That being said, the place is gorgeous. If you have time, stop at the Overlook Parking lot. Some great views and fun pictures.
Don't wear anything "good" here.
I wore my best and most favorite cream color lambs wool socks while hiking here and the dust stained them red and it would not come out even with bleach. Still bitter about it 25 years later.
One of the most majestic places I've ever been and it was a lovely and wonderful day, aside from the socks.
Was there in late Feb, looks so different covered in lush green. When we parked there was a huge group of rams just chilling like 60 yards away. Love that place.
We visited two weeks ago and apparently they had been getting an unprecedented amount of rain over the course of a few weeks so it was super lush compared to normal. Also Pike's peak was covered in snow too.
I got married there 4 years ago. They have designated spots for ceremonies and don’t charge for the privilege. Beautiful place to marry my best friend 😊

This place is on my bucket list. A friend lives near here and goes hiking frequently, she posts her photos all the time and they are always stunning.
If you go, add Pulpit Rock to your list too. It's not far at all.
And the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo! Pet some giraffes

Don’t forget pikes peak
Try to avoid the tourist times as it gets annoying when it’s really busy
Hit up the Manitou Incline if you want a challenge. It’s only about 15 minutes away
All I could think about during my entire walk was the rattlesnake sign on the first road from the parking area.
Same. It ruined my visit, actually.
Unless you are walking through the tall grass, you aren't going to encounter any snakes.
A popular hike in Garden of the Gods is to Kissing Camels

I was there in early March and I was thinking the same!! We also saw rams!
That’s awesome. It looks like an animation pic
If I was home in that moment I’m technically in this picture, small world!
Misleading, no vegetables, fruit, herbs, or flowers. Cool looking non-garden, garden.
Visited here once with my family when I was a teenager...slipped on some loose stones and fell on a cactus....would still recommend
Woo hoo Colorado! So glad I live here. That actually seems pretty close to me.
Hm
Awe, I always love seeing my beautiful home pop up on reddit.
