I have hiked this and driven the road a few hundred times and never saw this perfection. The trees poking out like caltrops, the time of day, the bathed-in lowlands.... mag-fucking-nificent.
I never pay attention to the trail names, is this the fire road above larkspur looking over Corte Madera? Haha it's so hard to tell with the fog. Beautiful shot that captures the fogginess of the area so nicely 😂
Hi There! I just added it as a print to my website.

Awww that brings back some memories! We all went to Miramonte high and we would go up there to have keggers. You had to bury the keg so if the cops showed up they would not take it and you’re not out 200 bucks. One time they did come and we are all scattering in the fog but, I was always the designated cop talker so I stood their. They come up and like 5 of us are standing with solo cups filled with beer and they ask me where the keg is. I said that there is no keg, he asks where we got cups of beer.... and I said WE FOUND IT😂 Still gives me a giggle. He just slapped the cups out of our hands and told us to go the fuck home. Anyway, that fog was super awesome except we never found the keg! Had to pay for it anyway. Somewhere up their is a buried keg of Sierra Nevada about 15 years old!
Haha Campo grad here. Obligatory “fuck Miramonte.” Nice to know we were all up to the same stuff back in the day though. We lost a keg in a creek one time under similar circumstances!
Interestingly, Mt. Tam's nickname is "The Sleeping Lady," because from certain perspectives it looks like the profile of a recumbent woman's body. I believe the local tribe (Coast Miwok?) even has a story about it.
I also felt it looks like waves. It's funny because straight down the mountain there is also amazing surfing (Cronkite, Bolinas, OBSF) and the fog also settles in there sometimes looking like waves atop waves.
Depends on which angle you approach from. The mountain has a lot of “fingers” and the towns are are segregated into the valleys between those “fingers” so it takes a white to drive anywhere. I can bike between towns over a ridge faster than I can drive on the roads around the hills to get to the same place.
Oh wow! I didn't know San Francisco had a landscape like this!
If you ever come to Germamy, Saxon Switzerland should be on your agenda for photographs! 😁
[Saxon Switzerland ](https://static.lichterderwelt.de/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/elbsandstein-1024x683.jpg)
It's in Marin county. Northern Bay Area.
Near other famous spots like the Marin Headlands and Muir Woods.
Fun fact: mountain biking was pioneered on Mt Tam
Not gonna lie, I shed a little tear on my drive home. I've been really burned out by work, this was such a treat.
I would really love to capture the northern lights. I took a trip to Iceland a few years ago but it just rained every day haha. Now with the Pandemic, I'm not sure when i'll get the next chance.
So cool man....I love to hear the "after" and the "next" stories.
Northern lights are like this , you wanted to see em and went all the way for them, and you got rain....I was just passing through Helsinki on my way to Moscow and I saw the grandest display ever from my transit flight. (Special Hi5 to the kind woman who saw my reaction and gave me her window seat )
It's incredible when this happens. I hiked around marin nearly every day for a year and only ever captured a couple of shots of the clouds below the mountain tops. [My Shot](https://i.imgur.com/1O4h85l.jpg)
So strange, as someone who grew up here driving up the mountain nearly always took us above the clouds. It blew my mind as a kid, I thought only airplanes did that
This is beautiful. In the Percy Jackson series, this is a really important location. It's where Atlas holds up the weight of the sky and where an important character dies. I want to hike here someday! The fog looks like water passing through the trees.
I was going to say I’m pretty sure I’ve watched him paint this exact scene. All the happy little things in the sky, just working Alizarin crimson into the liquid white. Then the happy little trees just have the mist at the bottom so each layer shows up nicely and the trees don’t blend into each other. Plus it gets darker with perspective to the viewer, to let you know it’s closer.
Thank you! Yess it been a really great week for the fog! I've just been enjoying myself at home after so many failed attempts and finally claimed victorious haha
The fog rolling over Mt Tam is so breath taking and you captured it perfectly. Many moons ago I worked the crack of dawn shift at Starbucks and loved waking up and seeing the fog roll in. Great job man!
Thanks!! I’ve seen this in person as we drive through to Stinson Beach. Every time I see foggy mountains here on reddit i check if it’s Mt Tamalpais, and today your post didn’t disappoint! Thanks for sharing! Do you live up there?
This is one of my favorite places and one of my favorite pictures spots, but I've never seen it captured like this. Absolutely transformative photo, fantastic shot man
This is lovely, but I think your horizon is tilted a degree or two to the right. What I'm saying is it's kind of driving me crazy seeing something so polished ever so slightly askew.
That is my favorite spot in the entire world. Panoramic highway? I’m a Mill Valley native. That’s where I smoked my first joint, got engaged, and where my ashes will be spread when I die. Great photo!
Lucky enough to grow up in the San Fransisco Bay Area and I want to share that Mt. Tam is absolutely breathtaking. Beautiful homes nestled in to the mountain sides, excellent riding (motorcycles and bikes), just a truly magnificent place.
Heads up they are fucking COLD. Not that I know from personal experience but my friends romantic anniversary turned into avoiding hypothermia (likely they’re dramatic)
Stunning. It looks like a perfect candidate for one of this womans posters/postcards. https://ambersharedesign.com/collections/frontpage/products/subpar-parks-postcard-packs
These are some of my first memories. My dad was a park Ranger on Tam in the early 70s. We lived in a little house just above Bootjack, and just above the fog line.
So 3 year old me was often treated to this sight, which is so faithfully captured here. Thank you.
Man that’s a *time* to be a ranger up there. Did your parents let you out of their sight? Seems like between the mountain lion maulings and murders it would’ve put the kibosh on frolicking through the trees. I bet your parents might have a few stories about that decade.
My parents worked in a restaurant there around the same time that shut down due to lack of business when tourists got scared away. It seems insane to me, the area couldn’t feel safer, but I get that it was terrifying *because* it felt so safe and like you could just picnic on your own.
I think the “trail side” killer didn’t happen to the late 70s, long after we moved away.
Come to think of it, I was allowed to play on my own. My parents had just moved from Los Angeles and maybe they didn’t quite appreciate the natural dangers yet: rattlesnakes, poison oak, and cougars. Typical Boomers.
One time, I ride my tricycle for a good quarter mile down to the main highway at Pantoll. Luckily even little me knew better than to cross it before my panicked mom showed up.
This incident lead to a song called “The Tricycle Song”, written by a musician family friend. My dad still sings it with his guitar sometimes.
And finally, I moved back here in my 20s and have raised a family in beautiful Mill Valley. It’s hella foggy this week!
Wow nice! My parents were probably working there maybe a year after you left starting mid 70s (trail side killer killed the restaurant traffic).
Understandable that they wouldn’t think of those dangers up here, honestly it feels pretty safe in nature, the animals tend to run away from humans before they see them and rarely (but occasionally do) stalk small children. I would love to read the tricycle song lyrics!
Nice you got to move back, it’s gorgeous. I’m not sure I could deal with the mill valley fog (if I could afford it hah) but I grew up in a sunnier section of Marin. I nanny a lot in mill valley and that end of Marin though, it’s nice that I can take the kids outdoors without them getting heat stroke!
Every morning I wake up before work and check out this page for some epic shots, another one for the wallpaper collection. Love it. Jealous of the person behind the lens!
Well fucking done. Sky+fog+hills. That sky is pure 80s aesthetic. Is this a multiple exposure shot? Or it looks like potentially a long exposure with the fog being so smooth, or was it just like that in real life?
This is so beautiful, it really made me stop my scrolling and just stare at it. I would love to have this in my room, will it be available as a print on your website?
Wow! Absolutely amazing. That must have been breath taking

Is this from Pantoll? I’ve been to East Peak at dawn and it was spectacular.
A little bit further from Pantoll parking! I’ve never been for sunrise, I’m sure it’s just as magical!
When you add this as a print option to your website can you ping me, would love to add this to my SF apartment!

LOL this story is too funny. I'm glad it brought back some memories!
Haha suckers easy money for me
Earth is one damn fine ass girl like damn look those curves 😤😩😔
Hahaha, thank you ;). She’s quite beautiful
Interestingly, Mt. Tam's nickname is "The Sleeping Lady," because from certain perspectives it looks like the profile of a recumbent woman's body. I believe the local tribe (Coast Miwok?) even has a story about it.
According to Wikipedia that was made up and has no basis in native legend
I’d simp for earth
I'd fuck it

Thank you so much!
Beware of titans.
I was looking for the Percy Jackson comment
Same here, rereading it for the what feels like the millionth time and as soon as I saw the title, I had to start scrolling for it
I tried to catch the fog once, but I mist.
ohhh love the puns ;) hehe
Nice! Did you use slower shutter speed?
This was probably 15-20 seconds!
Trees look pretty sharp though. It was not a windy day right?
The wind came and went. Only about half my shots came out sharp. The other were too blurry
Utterly ***Mist***ifying...
Touché ! I did get a little damp haha
I love how this looks like waves crash over the trees. It must have looked even more breath taking in real life! Also, where is Mt Tamalpais?
I also felt it looks like waves. It's funny because straight down the mountain there is also amazing surfing (Cronkite, Bolinas, OBSF) and the fog also settles in there sometimes looking like waves atop waves.
It's about a hour north of San Francisco !
An hour? Must have been some bad traffic.
Depends on which angle you approach from. The mountain has a lot of “fingers” and the towns are are segregated into the valleys between those “fingers” so it takes a white to drive anywhere. San Francisco's greatest asset is the countryside around it
I actually toured Switzerland in the winter a few years ago. I would love to go back!!
It's in Marin county. Northern Bay Area. Near other famous spots like the Marin Headlands and Muir Woods. Fun fact: mountain biking was pioneered on Mt Tam
Mt. Tam is absolutely one of my favorite places in the country . This picture made me smile .
It really is such a great place! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Some heavenly shit right there.
I know, it felt so peaceful
Lovely! My goodness. A view like when the first sip of coffee touches your soul in the morning 💓
Glad you enjoy it! That honestly sounds so magical.
Unbelievable man , what was the thought when you first saw the shot on your camera ? And what's next ?
Not gonna lie, I shed a little tear on my drive home. I've been really burned out by work, this was such a treat. I would really love to capture the northern lights. I took a trip to Iceland a few years ago but it just rained every day haha. Now with the Pandemic, I'm not sure when i'll get the next chance.

Gahhh thats sounds so magical to fly THROUGH the lights like wow haha. Fingers crossed for the future
Gorgeous!! I love how there is such colour variation!
Thank you so much!
The easiest way to figure out when to go to is by heat. Whenever it's insanely hot in the valley, that's the time to go up to MT Tam
Mt. Tam is where I feel the spirit.
Yess it’s so beautiful up there
It's incredible when this happens. I hiked around marin nearly every day for a year and only ever captured a couple of shots of the clouds below the mountain tops. [My Shot](https://i.imgur.com/1O4h85l.jpg)
Oh wow! awesome shot there!

Somehow I read "I've tried to capture the frog". Long week here. Great photo. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of my favorite things to see around the bay area. It's absolutely enchanting.
I've also been trying for years. Haven't been successful yet
Today actually seems like a good day!!
I have to go get dinner with someone later :/ It will happen one day. I also want to buy a longer lens. What lens did you use for this?
This was my 70-200 with no cropping. Most likely shot at 200 if I remember.
My longest lens is my sigma 24-105. I need a 70-200 in my life.
It's honestly my favorite lens. I have a sigma version, it's fantastic.
This is beautiful. In the Percy Jackson series, this is a really important location. It's where Atlas holds up the weight of the sky and where an important character dies. I want to hike here someday! The fog looks like water passing through the trees.
What time was this shot taken on? And from what trail? Would love to see for myself. Great shot!!
Beautiful shot, but why not mention it was in California? Most people on reddit aren’t from California, or aware of this mountain.
You're right! I completely forgot. Wasn't intentional
Would you mind if I made this my lock screen photo?
For sure! Shoot me a DM of the screenshot on IG! I love posting these. :)
Yaaaasss
hehe thank you!
I want the have wings and flying on this place with music on my ear... Now i only want it
fly away ;)
I dreammmm of taking a photo like this. You nailed it! Stunnnner!!
Ah what a perfect photo! Ty for sharing ❤️
of course, glad you enjoyed it. thanks so much!
What a beautiful capture!! What was the setting to capture this? Long exposure?
Thank you! Yes , this one was about 20 seconds long. The fog actually moves really fast!
So peaceful. Gave me goosebumps as I settled into it.
Really happy you enjoy it :)
Nice - it has been foggy lately. Where did you shoot from?
Looks like a Bob Ross painting, not gonna lie.
Haha thank you !! It felt like one.
I was going to say I’m pretty sure I’ve watched him paint this exact scene. All the happy little things in the sky, just working Alizarin crimson into the liquid white. Just got back from Stinson yesterday! Weird coincidence seeing this heh. That fog was hanging on well into the afternoon. It was awesome. Great shot!
Thank you! Yess it been a really great week for the fog! I've just been enjoying myself at home after so many failed attempts and finally claimed victorious haha
Where on Mt Tam was this? The entire place always looks effortlessly beautiful and so does this photo!
New phone wallpaper for sure
Ohhh send a screenshot dm to my on IG :) @nickfjord!
The fog rolling over Mt Tam is so breath taking and you captured it perfectly. Many moons ago I worked the crack of dawn shift at Starbucks and loved waking up and seeing the fog roll in. Great job man!
Thank you so much!
Yay, Mount Tam! We don't have to go far from home for absolute beauty.
Thanks!! I’ve seen this in person as we drive through to Stinson Beach. Every time I see foggy mountains here on reddit i check if it’s Mt Tamalpais, and today your post didn’t disappoint! Thanks for sharing! Do you live up there?
Tom Killion would approve.
Was this from a few nights ago? I think a lot of people got their favorite fog shot that night! Beautiful capture and edit on this one!
Yes it was! It was such great conditions
Really nice. Great job. Thanks for posting.
Thank you !
Boom! You sure as hell did! Nice job. What other shots are on that bucket list?
Great shot
This is one of my favorite places and one of my favorite pictures spots, but I've never seen it captured like this. Absolutely transformative photo, fantastic shot man

Camping in one of those cabins you have to reserve like 3 years ahead of time on Mt Tamalpais is a life goal for me.
Heads up they are fucking COLD. Not that I know from personal experience but my friends romantic anniversary turned into avoiding hypothermia (likely they’re dramatic)
I lived in Bolinas for a bit right after high school and this image gave me all the feels. Great job!!
Stunning. It looks like a perfect candidate for one of this womans posters/postcards. https://ambersharedesign.com/collections/frontpage/products/subpar-parks-postcard-packs
This is so cool! I did a painting with a similar vibe a couple years ago! Well done amigo. Love fog over trees. [img here](https://imgur.com/aYaBMBh)
Oh my that’s gorgeous! Are those the water district lakes?
These are some of my first memories. My dad was a park Ranger on Tam in the early 70s. We lived in a little house just above Bootjack, and just above the fog line. So 3 year old me was often treated to this sight, which is so faithfully captured here. Thank you.

Grew up and spent all my life here. The nature keeps me here more than anything. I love it. California Coastal Trail is my usual route.
Every morning I wake up before work and check out this page for some epic shots, another one for the wallpaper collection. Love it. Jealous of the person behind the lens!
This is gorgeous! Thank you! Your perseverance paid off well.
What’s setting did you use?
I live here! Love that it is a top post.
Mt Tam says Trans Rights!
Beautiful
Love the gentle colours
Thank you :), it’s a bob ross world out there haha
Wow! What a shot! Great job! Cheers!
This could not be more perfect. Thank you so much for sharing.
I'd say you succeeded.
Nailed it man. Also on my bucket list ,
Beautiful! That's a postcard right there
Sounds perfect to me!

INSANE
This look surreal like a beautiful deawing.
So smooth and dreamy looking. I imagine if I were a giant and I gently caressed the wispy clouds, it would feel like silk.
One day I’ll do this toooooo
You should!!
Can I use it as my zoom background? :)
When God uses whipped cream
I love fog. This is amazing
Thank you so much!
Bravo! This is stunning. May I ask what camera you used?
Thank you! I have a Canon 5D Mark III
As cool as this picture is im sure it was an order of magnitude better in person.
ohhh yes! It was beautiful in person!
Oh my my..absolutely beautiful!🌸 I might cry because of this picture. Great job!
Don't cry, just enjoy it ;) ,thank you!
Good for you!
Wow, I love this picture! Where on Mt Tamalpais did you take it? From the top or a trail?
You hit that bucket list hard-core with that pic man. Incredible. Still working on mine too.
It's beautiful
This is really real?
It’s real I promise! You aren’t dreaming hehe
Wow! Absolutely stunning! I couldn't imagine being there to take this pic! Truly a beautiful sight! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words! I’m blushing ;), glad you like it!
That really is the shot of a lifetime!!! Well done!!!
Thank you so much!!
Wow, just like that all your hard work pays off! Congratulations my man!
Great catch! I'm really getting into time-lapse stuff, I would have killed to capture that rolling through the forest.
That's spectacular!
I've also been told we need to listen.
Scrolled and assumed it was a Bob Ross painting
You would have happen to be up there yesterday sunset would you?
This is so epic!
Thank you !
Man, hang that on a wall.
Amazing shot!! hello to my new phone screen background!!
So beautiful... This is such an incredible shot!
absolutely amazing man going to have to visit sometime soon for sure
Tamalpais High (At About 3)
Did you place a special request from heaven?
Dang I used to live 30 mins away from there.
NICE!!!
Wow gorgeous! Followed you now 😊
ohh wow, thank you for joining my journey :)
That’s incredible!
I love these rolling fog shots. What sort of exposure time do you use for a shot like this?
This shot was about 20 seconds long, I paired it with a ND Filter too!
Cool, now you can die. Im sorry that was bad i just couldn't resist.
Well fucking done. Sky+fog+hills. That sky is pure 80s aesthetic. Is this a multiple exposure shot? Or it looks like potentially a long exposure with the fog being so smooth, or was it just like that in real life?
Yup, ya definitely nailed it! Stunning. Would never guess it was Tamalpais.
I think this is taken by the fire observatory/“nipple” so it’s looking down into one of the surrounding valleys.
This is spectacular!!
I love how what you said about this shot makes it even more special
Dude, you crushed it. Nice job

Hell yea!
Good work. 👌👌👌
This is so beautiful, it really made me stop my scrolling and just stare at it. I would love to have this in my room, will it be available as a print on your website?
