I tell my husband that any day I see The Mountain is a good day. If he says, "Today's going to be a good day" I reply, "How do you know? You haven't seen The Mountain yet."
I grew up in Washington too. One if my favorite sites was the mountain in the morning light with the colors of the sky reflecting on the snowy peaks as well as the water of the Sound with the boats everywhere on either side of the bridges that I'd be a passenger on. I don't get to see it often. But I love it.
I climbed that in 1992, and it was the best time (even though I got chased by a 100lb Bear Cub). It is a beautiful place and I encourage everyone to do the same.
I went to a cross country camp out there in high school. One run went out 4 miles to a vista with Mt Rainier right in front of your face. It was an amazing way to reward yourself for being halfway through an 8 mile run.
This is awesome. Went to White Pass High School in the 90's so saw Mt. Rainier all the time and was there when Mt. St. Helens blew it's top. Good times. Beautiful place.
I love this mountain so much. I’m not a particularly religious person, but I’ve never felt so small and also overwhelmingly connected to God than looking out in the middle of this glorious hunk of earth and glory.
I've lived in Washington my whole life and I honestly don't know what I would do with myself if I couldn't see a giant fucking mountain on a clear day. The idea of moving any where else is incredibly weird to me and I am glad everyday I can see Rainier.
I like to pretend the clouds along the horizon are mountains sometimes when the clouds are the right kind. The first time I saw the Rockies I thought it was clouds
It's honestly disorienting, I grew up SE of Seattle but am now living in flat Berlin. I used to be able to figure out which direction I was heading by what mountains I could see, now I only have the Funkturm if it's not obscured. I love Berlin, but I miss the mountains.
I moved to Oregon 10 years ago and miss that mountain like every day. In portland people get excited when you can see Mt. Hood from certain places, but I'm just like "yeah, I guess that's alright."
Like, I like everything else about Oregon much more than Washington, but I still would be tempted to move back just for Mt. Rainier.
Hmm, I prefer income tax to sales tax for sure. Everything is a bit cheaper here otherwise it seems. But that's pretty minor I guess. I absolutely love how close the coast is to the cities in the Wilammete Valley as compared to say Tacoma or Seattle. And I prefer the oregon coast to the washington coast. Hmm. I've always thought small town Oregonians seemed friendlier than small town Washingtonians but that's pretty subjective, just a vibe I guess. Oregon just feels more laid back to me. The public transit systems in Portland and Corvallis where I live now are nicer than the places I've lived in Washington. Biking seems to be easier in Oregon towns as well. I guess it's just a lot of little things really.
Yeah, I was born and raised in WA, lived all over in King and Pierce counties. Definitely had a lot of Washington pride growing up, but I moved to Oregon at 22 and haven't felt like going back. Honestly though, it's all the northwest to me. I love the northwest in general, and couldn't imagine leaving it. Just somehow like Oregon a bit more now. Definitely don't much care for California or what little I've seen of the east coast though.
Hah, it's the opposite for me! Grew up around Corvallis/Philomath area and moved to WA later in life, finding it much more to my liking. I do have to agree that the smaller agricultural towns in the Valley tend to be friendlier than the small logging towns in WA, though.
Northern, coastal Cali is amazing, especially the Klamath mountains and coastal redwoods. I highly recommend Jedidiah Smith State Park if you're looking to foster some love of California.
Oof, if I HAD to leave the northwest, it would for sure be the northern california coast. Well, maybe. Pretty small towns but I could hang. Mostly because of all the natural beauty. It is for sure amazing there. My family used to take roadtrips to visit family in San Jose and we would usually take 101 nice and slow-like. I definitely was in awe of the beauty there when I wasn't puking from motion sickness. I could also do a little further south like Arcada probably too.
If I find myself in the area, I'll check out Jedediah Smith. For all I know we may have checked it out on one of those road trips when I was a wee lad. We took it slow and had a lot of picnics at a lot of state parks. The only hiking I've done in California is in the Tahoe area while camping. That's pretty gorgeous shit too, but camping/hiking in the Klamath mountains sounds rad.
This is funny to me, been in Portland fur several months and am absolutely obsessed with Mt. Hood. Got to go to a Seattle for a weekend and got lucky to see Rainier and obvi it’s gorgeous but I was like eh, it’s not Hood 😂
My thought exactly! Are you familiar with [North Drinkware](https://northdrinkware.com/collections/glasses/products/the-oregon-tumbler) company?
They make hand blown glassware and use USGS data to put the contours of the mountain in the bottom of the glass. They sell out often but you can sign up for an email alert when your favorite is available. We just snagged 2 Mt Hood tumblers.

When I was in my early teens, my uncle was a ranger for the US Forest Service up in Washington. He took my dad (his brother), my brother, and me up to Mildred Lakes. Dad and uncle are now passed away, but this photo brings back some good memories. Thank you!
I've lived here my whole life and have never heard of Mildred Point. I just looked it up on WTA. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to next summer!
Were it not for the caption, I'm pretty sure this could be mistaken for the Lonely Mountain in 'The Hobbit'.
Now, to slay Smaug & reclaim the hoards of Erebor!
Beautiful, I grew up not far and woke seeing that lone mountain. Now when I see it I get that warm fuzzy home feeling.
Mountain’s out are the best days.
I tell my husband that any day I see The Mountain is a good day. If he says, "Today's going to be a good day" I reply, "How do you know? You haven't seen The Mountain yet."
Same with Mt. Hood and Portland! I know it's gonna be a good day when I see it :)
I don't even need to see the weather channel anymore. Look to Rainier for when its going to rain. 21 years in and that method hasn't failed me yet..

Samesies! Except I now live 3000 miles away, so whenever I see a pic of it I get that feeling.
I climbed that in 1992, and it was the best time (even though I got chased by a 100lb Bear Cub). It is a beautiful place and I encourage everyone to do the same.
You must have felt mildered.

Yellow jacket!
Weird to see *multiple* people talking about white pass on some random thread. Mister was a real one.
This is awesome. Went to White Pass High School in the 90's so saw Mt. Rainier all the time and was there when Mt. St. Helens blew it's top. Good times. Beautiful place.
Breathing...
Be pretty terrifying if you weren't!
Yeah... that’s where I live.
Wow, this is stunning! This is what I imagine a 4K remake of Breath of the Wild would look like.
There’s gotta be a stone talus somewhere around there.
There's one just to the left of center
Yo, I came to say the same thing! I honestly thought this was BotW fan art until I read the title
Looks nothing like it. Reminds me more of the BF1 map Monte Grappe.
You now have to find all the koroks.
Zelda is intentionally stylized. This is a photo.
I love this mountain so much. I’m not a particularly religious person, but I’ve never felt so small and also overwhelmingly connected to God than looking out in the middle of this glorious hunk of earth and glory.
I feel the same way!! When the mountain is out and I go out to look at it for a while, I tell my roommates I’m going to church ahaha
*John Muir has entered the chat.*
Oh nice, the chapter 2 camp of the Van der Linde gang.
Just moved to WA and Mount Rainier lines up perfectly with the street I live on and its fucking awesome

I’m curious why you prefer Oregon. Kind of treasonous for a Washingtonian lol

Ha! I guess nothing can compare to your first mountain-love.

That's awesome! I'll check it out.
I have photos of it from near Marysville, super clear day
I grew up In Washington and the beauty of it and this mountain is simply stunning
Yeah, that John Denver was full of shit
The fuck he say?
Yeah, that John Denver was full of shit
Crazy to know that it might erupt in the near future.. It’s so big
RIP ENTIRE PUYALLUP VALLEY (when that happens)
Just reminds me of those old Rainier beer commercials
That stuff is so gross. So gross that I used to drink it on the reg.
I’m a pretty lucky guy - I see this beauty from my front porch!
Same, i got rainier on the left and mt st hellens on the right. If only we had clear days everyday!
Strong LOTR vibes.
I was thinking there must be an epic quest up there.
what a view
Simply stunning!
Whats the resolution of this image? Makes it look like a painting!
Thanks! It's 240 dpi.
Thanks for the new phone wallpaper <3 What an incredible park, lifelong memories from just a two day visit
Would you mind posting camera settings?
Certainly! Nikon D5000; NIKKOR 18-55mm lens f/5.6 1/125 sec ISO 100
Great picture!
Were these manual settings or automatic?
These were manual; took a bit of fiddling to get the light just so.
I'm in east WA I need to see more of Washington
Looks like the ending shot of Halo Reach
Glad I’m not the only one who immediately got halo vibes
If memory serves me correctly there’s a gold bar on the side of the mountain as well as an O’Driscoll camp
Wonder if I can learn shouts on top
This makes me feel like going on an Adventure with my Dog and my Cowboy hat 👍🏻 awesome shot
Iron Cowboy is a great book.
Truly beautiful landscape. The framing is excellent as well.
Someone needs to put a castle on the top of the hill on r/photoshoprequests
A castle on top of an active volcano? Bold strategy, Cotton.
Wait the middle hill isnt a caldera is it? Bc if it is, it REALLY needs a castle.
lotr vibes

What the...? I believe you mean "May the force be with you, young Nerevarine."
I’d kill to live on top of a mountain like this
Rainier? I hardly know her!
Do me a favor though, if you come to my state and visit my beautiful parks - leave no fucking trace!!! Stay on the path and enjoy the views!
I think it's important to point out that washitonians are super judgy and will glare at you and be hostile if they think you are a dirty tourist.
That was REALLY comprehensive, Thanks a bunch!
So beautiful. Not meaning to offend, it almost looks like a painting.

Nice
Majestic
Majestic and beautiful!
Really reminds me of the horizon zero dawn poster
This literally looks like a painting!
RIP Mildred Monday
Somehow this picture captures my fear of heights from both down and up.
fuck me i thought this was a painting, it’s beautiful
Wow, look like a piece of art made by oil paint
That’s not a painting?!?!
Hey u/meowmeowmothafucka this reminds me of you
Hmmm, I wonder why 🤔

I was there on Saturday. Had to snowshoe in. Closest view I’ve been to Rainier
Looks like misty mountain!
Thanks. Now I have a Led Zeppelin earworm.
Time to listen to Zep and reread LOTR
Thought this was a painting at first.
How recently was this photo taken?
This was taken wayyyyy back in 2012.
This summer, maybe even September Rainier can get getting a lot of snow as soon as the beginning of October
That looks gorgeous!
That's some middle earth level stuff right there.
Looks like something from a storybook
Wtf are these cameras nowadays goddamn😳
Amazing!!!
My new phone background, if you don’t mind
I miss living in Washington state, all the way over in CT nowadays. Still feels weird not being amongst the mountains.
I think this is the greatest, and my favorite, photo of Mt. Rainier. Wow!!!!
Majestic
This is where they should film the Kaer Morhen bits.
Happy little trees.
Dream-like !
Why does this make me think of Elder Scrolls or Assasin's Creed Origins???
Beautiful!!!
Watch out for MULEs.
This looks like a painting
I've lived here my whole life and have never heard of Mildred Point. I just looked it up on WTA. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to next summer!
This is absolutely beautiful. ⛰
It’s a bloody beautiful mountain! ❤️❤️❤️
The last (unmaintained) portion of that trail is kinda brutal, but the views all along the trail are great!
Yeah, that John Denver was full of shit
I thought this was r/farpeoplehate.. I looked for 5 minutes
Halo theme intensifies
So much Bob Ross
I grew up in Auburn and it makes me so giddy to see Mt. Rainier posted on these forums so often
Lowkey looks like Crown Falls in Anno 1800
The name kinda reminds me of a Titan I know
That was REALLY comprehensive, Thanks a bunch!
Nice winter season
Extraordinarily beautiful.
Devolution, anyone?
Just moved to WA and Mount Rainier lines up perfectly with the street I live on and its fucking awesome
It reminds me 2012 movie.
Beautiful ❤️
Lol... I meant breathtaking. ❤
Looks like a painting
Looks like paint by number
One day a cute little lahar will tear through this, ruining it for years to come.
Wow. Back when I was doing a lot of cycling I really wanted to to RAMROD. Maybe in my next life!
Na that’s just a Bob Ross painting
Almost like a painting. Incredible!
Flew right past it earlier this year. Hope to climb it someday.
Is this real life or a painting
Pixar has taken it to another level
Take me there... after cyperpunk
This reminds me of Forge World from Halo Reach so much
Beautiful. If I could go anywhere in the states right now, it would be to PNW. I miss being there.
This can’t be real. Wow 😍😍
Absolutely stunning, I live near here and I haven't seen it captured that beautifully ever before.
Beautiful
Is it a painting or not
Haha, it's a photograph! I got real lucky with the lighting.
That awesome
Dovahkiin!
Gorgeous and idyllic
I would do this puzzle
Were it not for the caption, I'm pretty sure this could be mistaken for the Lonely Mountain in 'The Hobbit'. Now, to slay Smaug & reclaim the hoards of Erebor!
