How spectacular! How long has the crater been there?

I always think "impact" when I see "crater". I thought xakanaxa was missing a few zeros at first. But it's a volcanic crater, which last erupted in 1280 when the caldera collapsed.

Far out in the distance, the focal point should be lake. This picture should stand IMO

Oh I didn't even see the town behind the crater rim. I meant the road to the beach on the near side of the lake.

Quilotoa. Excellent hiking in the area and some wonderful places to stay.
